She cared for Taj so genuinely like he was hers. She would always say how handsome he was and love on him. He was never scared there. Unfortunately he had kidney issues and I had to make the toughest decision ever. To let him go. He was suffering. I held him in my arms as he took his last breath. The staff was so consoloble. I recommend this place very highly. They are awesome. Everyone from the front desk to the techs to the fabulous Doctors and the facility is beautiful. They took the time to make sure my cat had everything she needed and never made me feel rushed or dismissed. What stood out to me most was how comfortable they made both of us feel. Veterinary visits can be stressful for pets and their owners, but they handled my cat with so much patience and gentleness that she seemed comfortable too. You can tell this team genuinely cares about the animals they treat and the people who love them. They took the time to sit down with me, listen, explain, and truly understand what happened from my perspective. What stood out the most is that they weren't defensive, dismissive, or focused on money--they were compassionate and genuinely concerned about Maggie's well-being. They acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, and instead of distancing themselves, they leaned in. They made it clear that they care and are willing to work with me however they can to support Maggie moving forward. In a world where veterinary care can sometimes feel rushed or transactional, I appreciated seeing the human side of their team today. Predatory practice, clear and simple. When I came to pick up pets (2) they claimed one "attacked" them before being placed in a car carrier. I went back to see this smelling, small space they had boarded my pets and understood abuse. This same pet has boarded 2X previously with never a report of aggression. Clearly diminished level of service and desperation to add fees to a bill that was already overpriced for a national holiday date added. I suggest any pet owner use TCAP services, as they are trained VETS and fair in their pricing.

I'm extremely disappointed with the service--or lack thereof--at this veterinary clinic. When my dog was clearly in distress and needed attention, I was turned away without the basic evaluation I was asking for due to a missed vaccination. I informed the vet to check my dogs medical history; he is a highly allergic Boston Terrier with multiple documented accounts of severe anaphylaxis in response to some, not all, vaccinations. This particular vaccination he needed is one that had been administered in the past and nearly killed my dog back in 2021. He survived but was hospitalized twice in five days, and barely recovered. There was no compassion, no sense of urgency, and no attempt to refer me elsewhere. As a dog Mom, I rely on my vets not only for medical expertise but for understanding, empathy and responsiveness in critical moments. Unfortunately, that was completely lacking here. I won't return to this office and I wouldn't recommend this clinic to anyone who wants their pet treated with the humane, loving care and respect they deserve.

The reason for this review is not the quality of care, but the clinic's prescription refill policy. When attempting to refill our cat's flea and tick medication through Chewy, the prescription request was declined because our cat had not had an annual wellness exam. When I contacted the office to understand the reasoning behind the requirement, I was told that the exam was necessary to maintain the veterinarian-client-patient relationship. However, I did not receive a clear explanation of how a routine wellness exam for a healthy, three-year-old cat would impact the decision to approve a medication he has been safely taking for the past three years. Veterinary regulations may require periodic examinations before prescriptions can be authorized, and if that is the case, I would have appreciated a straightforward explanation of that requirement. Instead, the responses I received felt generic and did not address the underlying question of why the exam was necessary in this specific situation. For many families, discretionary spending is carefully evaluated. Requiring an $83 wellness exam solely to authorize a refill of an established flea and tick preventative adds a meaningful expense without a clearly communicated benefit. While I understand the importance of routine preventive care, I believe clients deserve a transparent explanation of the medical or regulatory rationale behind policies that require additional visits and costs. My overall opinion of Riverwalk remains positive because of the quality of care they have provided over the years. However, this experience with prescription refill policies and the lack of a clear & logical explanation has been disappointing and has changed my perspective on an otherwise excellent practice. We went to…read moreFlower Mound Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center, and our cat, Panther, was treated by Dr. Barton. I knew he was critical when we left home. We were warmly greeted, he was taken straight back, and Dr Barton came to the room to identify herself as Panther's treating doctor. Dr. Barton told us the results of his initial exam, stated a possible course of action, but advised that humane euthanasia would be a solid choice given his age, condition, and the fact that he was suffering. I made the loving choice to end my best friend's suffering. Dr. Barton was so kind, compassionate, and amazed me when she helped me explain euthanasia to my 8 yo daughter & explained the process in child appropriate language. I'm so thankful to her for her care, the compassion she showed Panther, and her warmth & compassion she showed my daughter as my daughter had never experienced this before. While our reason for visiting was very difficult and sad, both Dr Barton & FM Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center made our heartbreaking time as easy as possible. Thank you!! I am extremely disappointed with our adopter's experience at Flower Mound Veterinary Emergency &…read moreSpecialty Center and with the way he was counseled regarding our rescue kitten, Snap. Snap was a 4-month-old kitten who became critically ill suddenly. His hematocrit was 8.6% and his platelet count was approximately 10,000. He had severe anemia, thrombocytopenia, bruising, and bleeding. We fully understand his condition was life-threatening, treatment would have been expensive, and there was no guarantee he would survive. Snap was transferred to this hospital specifically for a blood transfusion. According to his adopter, once they arrived he was strongly discouraged from pursuing treatment. He was told that even after the transfusion Snap's hematocrit would still be dangerously low, that he would likely require extensive ongoing treatment, and was given an extremely bleak outlook regarding his potential future quality of life. Based on that conversation, his adopter ultimately agreed to euthanasia. The hospital's own record states that Snap was "relatively compensated despite the severity of his anemia." His examination documented that he was quiet but alert and responsive, with strong pulses, normal respiration, normal neurologic findings, and no obvious organ failure. His chemistry was largely unremarkable. His anemia was also regenerative, meaning his bone marrow was actively producing replacement red blood cells. The referring veterinarian's working diagnosis was immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP), a potentially treatable condition. Another possibility was Evans syndrome. Neither diagnosis automatically means a cat will be chronically miserable or incapable of having a good quality of life. Both can respond to treatment and go into remission, although treatment can be difficult and relapse is possible. Yes, one transfusion may only have raised Snap's hematocrit into the 15-20% range. He may have required additional transfusions and hospitalization, and treatment could have failed. But a transfusion does not have to immediately return a patient's hematocrit to normal to be worthwhile. It can stabilize a critically anemic patient and buy time for treatment of the underlying disease to work. What is so upsetting is that we will never know how Snap would have responded because he was euthanized before he was given that chance. I am NOT upset that euthanasia was presented as an option. With a critically ill kitten, an uncertain diagnosis, significant expense, and no guarantee of survival, it was appropriate to discuss every option. I AM upset that, according to our adopter, he was given such a pessimistic impression of Snap's long-term outlook while making an irreversible decision, particularly when the hospital's own medical record states that "aggressive treatment is reasonable if they wish to pursue it," while also acknowledging that the underlying diagnosis was uncertain. There is an enormous difference between telling someone, "He is critically ill, treatment may fail, and we cannot promise he will survive," and leaving an owner believing that even if they spend thousands of dollars treating him, he is unlikely to ever have a good quality of life. Maybe treatment would have failed. Maybe Snap would have needed multiple transfusions. Maybe he would have developed a chronic condition requiring ongoing care. We understand those possibilities. But maybe he would have responded. Snap was only four months old. Days earlier, he was an active, playful, completely normal kitten with no apparent signs of illness. Our adopter transferred him to this hospital specifically for a blood transfusion and to give him a chance to fight. Instead, he left without Snap. We will never know whether he could have responded to treatment because he was never given that chance. Based on our adopter's experience and our review of Snap's medical records, we would NEVER recommend this hospital for critical-care decisions.
