I am glad I found this place for my furry baby. I used Yelp for searching an animal hospital in Grapevine since we moved here recently... Firstly it was easy to make an appointment via phone call for the next day. The staff was friendly and did great job on checking and examining my dog. The lady who was checking Winston and giving him treats was kind and so gentle with him. I liked the quick process comparing with our previous places. We were out within 30 mins with medication and some food. The service was phenomenal comparing with my experiences in previous animal hospitals... Also I liked how clean this place and it doesn't have any unpleasant odors... it is not cheap but here I can understand why prices are higher than in our previous places and I am ok to pay more if my dog and I have such nice experience every time. Marco had a rather harrowing stay at the Animal Emergency Hospital (you can read about it here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/animal-emergency-hospital-of-north-texas-grapevine#hrid:kuNdHzUZPxhHpp1ShPloYw). After he was released we had him boarded at NWAH, as we were out of town. Since Marco was recovering, we felt much better about having him at NWAH where he would be looked after by a vet and get periodic checkups. This turned out to be a good decision, as Marco definitely needed a little extra care (he had an IV to ensure he was getting enough fluids). When we picked him up on 8/8/2011 he was much happier and healthier than when we saw him on 8/3/2011. Marco is home now, and is almost his same old self (oddly he seems to be "play fighting" with our other cat more, and he seems a tad more vocal). He's not too crazy about his new diet (prescription Hills s/d), which he needs to be on for 30 days. After that I think he will need to be on prescription Hills c/d (or similar, we are currently researching options, including making our own food, with an emphasis on reducing crystal-forming minerals in his diet and increasing the water he drinks - for that we are thinking about a fountain). Bottom line: We are very pleased with the care Marco received while at NWAH. read more

I found a lump on my dog's leg and she had cried when I rubbed her ear. We are new to the area and have been debating to get a new vet or drive the 30+ minutes back to Hillside in Dallas. My family says City vet in Bedford is great. We called but the first available appointment was a week away. (I thought to myself "I said 'lump' and I have to wait a week?" My sister's dog was seen at CityVet for lymphoma. She deteriorated so much before she could start chemo, that the day she was supposed to start chemo she had to be put down instead because it had spread to her brain. Now I can't help wondering, if not having earlier openings, contributed to her rapid decline.) Anyway, NWAH had a next day appointment. I had days confused and they were more than accommodating when I moved it and then back to the original. They offered the options to either way in my car or come inside with a mask on. Since our dog turns into a complete nervous wreck at any vet office, I went inside. They are one of the few places left that acknowledge we are still in a pandemic. Thank you! Signs to use hand sani when walking in, dots on the floor, plastic partition even in the exam room, no one was wearing a mask below their nose or on their chin, rotating out pens, and have separate entrance and exit. We were quickly seen by the tech who verified everything was up to date, and her records were sent over. They were quick to bring water for my dog that was so stressed she was making herself swallow constantly and sucking on her teeth. Dr. Epperson came in and introduced himself. He asked general questions. He checked and swabbed both of her ears, not just the one that I noticed was bothering her. He verified under a microscope that it was a yeast infection in her ears. He brought in a model to show me how to clean her ears with the medication. The best thing he said was "you can't over medicate, but you can under medicate." Great advice, because I'm sure many would be concerned about filling up the ear with too much medication. I showed him the lump on her leg. He said it didn't have clean margins, and wanted to do a FNA. They to took her to back and performed that. He said it showed an infection that could have been a tiny cyst that ruptured. She's going on antibiotics for 10 days, and then we will recheck to make sure she's all cleared up. He even popped back in to clarify that the no clean margins also supports it being an infection. I greatly appreciated his thoroughness and verification, rather than just having a hunch and sending us home with meds. He explained everything very well. The Dr. and tech were patient with our 9lb dog that turns into a contortionist at the vet office trying to get away. All of the staff were efficient and pleasant. I hope that our experience there continues to be this caliber. I will be recommending my family to consider swictching to NWAH. read more

Yeah, see ya'), not to mention they are still acting insane and making you wait in your car while your fuzzy friend is taken inside . Before we left California I took my dog to the vet to get surgery on a "tumor" (that's what that dr called it), I didn't end up doing it cause the dr never even examined him didn't do blood work and never took any samples of the lumps he had. Long story short, I just got back from this Animal Hospital, to get those "tumors" examined, a second opinion. Luckily the dr ( I forgot his name, but he was with the tech Andrew?) they both were kind enough to sedate him (he was nervous and aggressive) to aspirate all the lumps and sent them to their in house lab to get them examined. Took less than 1 hour for it. THEY WERENT TUMORS!!!! All lipomas and he didn't need surgery. ALWAYS ALWAYS get a second opinion!! I just went to this place recently. I have been to many vets and always felt like they were overcharging me. I brought my 18 year old cat in to get a huge lump checked out. It turned out to be a tumor. She was being reclusive and lethargic. The vet recommended we amputate her tail. I was extremely stressed about it. Well Dr. Steinle took excellent care of of my cat. It wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. My cat is now back to herself and more energetic than I have seen her in a lot my time. I have been taking my dog to Josie Pet Hospital for a year, but because it was out of the way, decided to check out the local vet for his annual checkup. My first impressions while scheduling over the phone were very pleasant. Upon arriving to my appointment, nothing terrible happened, the service was just mediocre. I would expect more friendly service for a first time client. I had to fill out some ppwk and then was standing at the counter for a good 5-7 minutes until I finally asked if I could sit down since nobody was talking to me or giving me further instruction. A girl nodded yes to me so I sat. The woman who called us in was an older woman who was very nice, however, she took my dog back to take some blood and I don't know if she hurt him badly or what but when he came back to me he was terrified and I had to hold him. He would not even get down or look at her. He was very frightened. He has been to the other vet about 6 times and even with shots, ear checkups (which he cannot stand), etc., he has never acted so scared and ready to leave. He is the type of dog that loves new places and people so I was obviously concerned. I had to hold my dog while she stuck a thermometer in his rear and this was uncomfortable. The other vet always had two people who could safely and comfortably handle my dog for everything. When the vet came in, he was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. However, he could not do a thorough exam (no checking the ears, teeth, or anything else), but just felt his body while I was holding my dog. I was still charged full price although the exam was not complete. I guess I was put off by the fact it seemed they were ill equipped to handle a nervous animal, and was even more concerned regarding why my dog disliked them so much. I am not saying they are bad vets...like I said, the actual veterinarian seemed very nice. I am just used to better service and technicians who can handle animals and make my dog feel comfortable even in uncomfortable situations. I will be making that drive to Carrolton going forward. It is worth it for me. read more

You know when you hear people say "I wish I made the change earlier" well, we are those people! We were with our previous vet for 11 years and should have left at least 3-5 years prior. Shame on us! The long story short: I was bringing our puppy Ohanzee into the previous vet for loose stools and they were not giving me a complete dose of medication for him so it would cure the issue. What they were doing is giving me 2 pills each time for $28, in addition telling me they could not identify the worm(s). One time they gave 6 cans of dog food, the other they sold me some dry dog food, telling me he needed "special food" for his stomach. In 20 days, between the puppy packet for his shots and the doses of pills and food - Heritage Vet had me spending close to $700 . The worse part was not the money- he STILL had loose stools to the point that was water. There was no calling to see how he was doing and he was not gaining weight and was skinny! (Guess who was fired after 11 years!!) *Don't get me started on their billing that is unethical and their puppy packet Talk about night and day difference!! That is why, I don't know where to begin. The staff at Northwest Animal rocks!!! Even, the people who have the same breed as my dog who have not met him, think Dr. Steinle is incredible because I shared with them what we discussed on neutering. Brad who is his assistant is just awesome and so friendly. So are all the rest of the staff. (I would name everyone but my thread would go on forever) Every time I have been in there...customers are hugging them like family BUT more importantly the animals WANT to be there. I see animals RUNNING in there because they are soo happy to go the vet!! How much of a twist is that?!?! :) Normally you see owners trying to "drag" owners into a vets office. Now back to my Ohanzee who was having loose stools - not only did Dr. Steinle get to the root of the problem....needing medication for 10 days...straight and good old fashion pumpkin! Wow don't charge a patient an arm and a leg! He diagnosed that he didn't have worms too. What is so cool, Ohanzee has gone from 28 lbs to 45lb in less than a month! Thank you!!! Dr. Steinle also spends time with his patients. Hello! Did you read that! Ohanzee happen to have been bitten by a neighbor dog. (Auggh) But, Dr. Steinle saw that the ER report was not in his file and asked that it be spent to him. That impressed me. While we were there for Ohanzee's last set of shots he took the time to fully check the injury again (it was the eye) and even discuss with me how puppies handle attacks regarding socialization, etc. I can tell you the vet we had before would never have done that. Gosh she wouldn't even have check on him. Not even regarding neutering had the talk as in depth as we did, that I learned alot. What Dr. Steinle told me, when I got back was what was posted in an article and why they thought I had great vet! We have two Great Pyrenees as well, which I am excited to now bring up to the vet. I brought Harrison, my Beagle/Basset mix here for his initial exam, just a few days after rescuing him. The receptionists are extremely verbal and pleasant, while the "room nurses" are empathetic, knowledgable and friendly. Dr. Crocker, who is fairly new to the staff, was AMAZING! I was hesitant at first to come to this clinic, because I had heard it was pricy. But the saying you get what you pay for is absolutely correct. My dog has been having ear infections since April and we had been going to a lower cost vet in town. However we weren't really impressed by our vet so we decided to try this place. Right away we knew we had picked a great place. They took amazing care of my dog and knew right away what was causing her infections. They spent time asking us questions and looking over my dog. After many visits to our previous vet with no real reason why she was getting ear infections, we found out in one visit she has the possibility of allergies. I am so glad we chose this vet and I feel my dog is in great hands! read more

Someone named marine or Morgan maybe, came to get my little dog and she reeked of alcohol and weed! I was horrified! It's so hard to get appointments sometimes I reluctantly have her my tiny baby. I just hope she was gentle inside because she she was so rude very abrasive with her when taking her from me. . Some people just should not dealing with animals. We began going to Dr. Steinle about 12 years ago when we adopted a perfect Golden Retriever puppy from a breeder who discovered the pup had a terminal heart problem. We didn't know how long she would live but we loved her dearly and wanted her to have the best life for as long as she was with us. Dr. Steinle understood the parameters of the medical intervention we wanted and cared for her till the day she died at two years old. We knew what we faced but we wouldn't change a thing. Since then Dr. Steinle cares for all our Goldens. He respects our needs and takes time to counsel us. What a fine man he is! We also see Dr. Epperson and Dr. Crocker occasionally and both are excellent. In fact, Dr. Crocker uncovered the cause of a serious problem with another one of our Goldens. Dr. Steinle has been our vet for about 12 years. His staff has always been very nice and efficient. The techs are knowledgeable and courteous. They treat my dogs like they are family, which I love. We currently have 7 dogs and have also brought in fosters. I have zero complaints. Dr. Steinle takes the time to explain the diagnosis and treatment to make sure I understand.
