This picture (in comments) might not look like a big deal to you. But it's HUGE. I finally took Remington to a vet after 8 months. He had very basic vetting when I first adopted him. But he had such a terrible fear of the world that I put the vet on the back burner while I just tried to teach him how to be a dog. He has fear based aggression, which manifests in barking and growling and lunging, and all kinds of scary "Please leave me alone" sounds. In the meantime, I have been researching as many vet clinics as possible to find the right fit for him. I took a tour of Riverwalk Pet Hospital a couple of months ago. They are a "fear free" facility owned by an extremely experienced and talented veterinarian. They have 5 star google reviews. Their walls are painted green because that is a calming color for animals. The scrubs are green. They even have outdoor exam rooms if that is easier on the animal. I brought Remington by a week ago to walk through the facility to see how he did. We walked around when there were no other animals in the building. He sniffed the facility, they threw treats at him, didn't speak to him or look him in the eye - and we left. It was perfect. So yesterday I made an appointment to meet the vet - Dr. O' Gorman. I had a little bit of anxiety, not knowing what to expect. Remington does not like strangers. He doesn't like to be talked to. He doesn't like people to look at him. He will come up to you on his own terms. They put us in one of the outdoor rooms where they thought we would be more comfortable. The tech came out and spoke to us from a few feet away - again not speaking or looking at Remington directly. He did great. When Dr O came in, he did something I've never seen. He laid down on his side on the ground a few feet away. Didn't look at him and just threw treats at him. We were there for about an hour. No poking or prodding or touching today. We were able to talk through all of the things that Rem needs done, and come up with a medical plan, so that we can move forward and get him treated. I cannot recommend this facility or Doctor enough! It is a huge weight off of my shoulders that I can finally take care of his medical needs, as well as his emotional ones!!! By the way - they are also open seven days a week. And until 7 PM during the week. Could they be any more magical?

the cat tower in the exam room! genius!

Very attentive and listen to all questions and concerns about your fur baby. Prices were reasonable too.

The vet told me it would be too stressful for him to be boarded while we were gone, so I read online reviews and called Ann. I honestly was blown away. Ann was extremely knowledgeable, and also just incredibly kind and loving toward my cat. She went out of her way to take care of him while we were gone. She brought over feeding syringes and gave him Pepcid to help his stomach, as he was unable to eat without throwing up. She honestly got more food down him than I had been able to. She also recommended a brand of food that he will finally eat on his own, and had great advice for me on how to get him to start eating again (we had the vet pull a few teeth). Every day when we were gone she kept me updated by sending emails and pictures of him. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. I will for sure be using Ann in the future, and cannot recommend her enough.

I've been meaning to post a glowing review for Happy Tails Dog Sitting on Yelp for quite some time…read more Samantha and Norm are the BEST. She treats your dog as if he was her own and sends you daily updates (via email or text) with pictures, reassuring you that your dog is in great hands and doing well. Most recently, my dog Prince stayed with her for a week - the longest he's been away from home - and his birthday fell during that stay. She baked him the most adorable doggie cake for me to take home to celebrate when I got back, and also got him a Prince crown cookie with his name on it and sent me pics of him in a party hat! He also got a solo walk to PetSmart with Norm to pick his own toy, and an egg for breakfast - one of his favorite foods to eat! I am always blown away by how caring and loving they are and it makes me feel so much better if and when I have to travel, knowing that Prince is in good hands! I adopted him when he was 4 years old, and he had been owner surrendered at a shelter so the thought of boarding him at a kennel just made me so upset. I found her on Yelp and Prince has stayed with her 3 times so far, and I can't say enough great things about Samantha and Norm. 100% recommend them to anyone who wants a home away from home for their dog while they're away. She even checks in periodically, especially right after the stay, to check in on my pup and make sure he's doing well! And the first few visits, she even provided a wonderful take home bag with toys and homemade treats for Prince. So incredibly sweet and well priced. And much better than the options I've seen on DogVacay, which can be $50-75/night for minimal supervision! I'll be back the next time I go out of town!

I've been trying to plan for a week-long work trip at the beginning of May, followed some time in Europe, and needed to secure boarding. Over three days, I submitted multiple intake forms (in case the first didn't go through), sent texts, and called. There was no follow-up, no acknowledgment. Nothing. The only response I received was a single text saying they weren't accepting new boarders until May 1 and to fill out a request form...which I had already done multiple times. If you're too busy to take on new clients, that's completely understandable. But ignoring repeated outreach and sending a generic, unhelpful response isn't. Communication matters, especially when people are trying to make plans with real deadlines. They may be great with dogs, but based on this experience, I wouldn't rely on them if you expect professionalism or responsiveness.
