We have been clients of Riverwalk for several years and have entrusted them with the care of two dogs and one cat. During that time, both of our dogs passed away due to old age, and our cat is now three years old. Throughout those years, our experience with the veterinarians and technicians has been consistently positive. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and clearly dedicated to providing quality care for their patients. The reason for this review is not the quality of care, but the clinic's prescription refill policy. When attempting to refill our cat's flea and tick medication through Chewy, the prescription request was declined because our cat had not had an annual wellness exam. When I contacted the office to understand the reasoning behind the requirement, I was told that the exam was necessary to maintain the veterinarian-client-patient relationship. However, I did not receive a clear explanation of how a routine wellness exam for a healthy, three-year-old cat would impact the decision to approve a medication he has been safely taking for the past three years. Veterinary regulations may require periodic examinations before prescriptions can be authorized, and if that is the case, I would have appreciated a straightforward explanation of that requirement. Instead, the responses I received felt generic and did not address the underlying question of why the exam was necessary in this specific situation. For many families, discretionary spending is carefully evaluated. Requiring an $83 wellness exam solely to authorize a refill of an established flea and tick preventative adds a meaningful expense without a clearly communicated benefit. While I understand the importance of routine preventive care, I believe clients deserve a transparent explanation of the medical or regulatory rationale behind policies that require additional visits and costs. My overall opinion of Riverwalk remains positive because of the quality of care they have provided over the years. However, this experience with prescription refill policies and the lack of a clear & logical explanation has been disappointing and has changed my perspective on an otherwise excellent practice. This picture (in comments) might not look like a big deal to you. But it's HUGE. I finally took Remington to a vet after 8 months. He had very basic vetting when I first adopted him. But he had such a terrible fear of the world that I put the vet on the back burner while I just tried to teach him how to be a dog. He has fear based aggression, which manifests in barking and growling and lunging, and all kinds of scary "Please leave me alone" sounds. In the meantime, I have been researching as many vet clinics as possible to find the right fit for him. I took a tour of Riverwalk Pet Hospital a couple of months ago. They are a "fear free" facility owned by an extremely experienced and talented veterinarian. They have 5 star google reviews. Their walls are painted green because that is a calming color for animals. The scrubs are green. They even have outdoor exam rooms if that is easier on the animal. I brought Remington by a week ago to walk through the facility to see how he did. We walked around when there were no other animals in the building. He sniffed the facility, they threw treats at him, didn't speak to him or look him in the eye - and we left. It was perfect. So yesterday I made an appointment to meet the vet - Dr. O' Gorman. I had a little bit of anxiety, not knowing what to expect. Remington does not like strangers. He doesn't like to be talked to. He doesn't like people to look at him. He will come up to you on his own terms.They put us in one of the outdoor rooms where they thought we would be more comfortable. The tech came out and spoke to us from a few feet away - again not speaking or looking at Remington directly. He did great. When Dr O came in, he did something I've never seen. He laid down on his side on the ground a few feet away. Didn't look at him and just threw treats at him. We were there for about an hour. No poking or prodding or touching today. We were able to talk through all of the things that Rem needs done, and come up with a medical plan, so that we can move forward and get him treated. I cannot recommend this facility or Doctor enough! It is a huge weight off of my shoulders that I can finally take care of his medical needs, as well as his emotional ones!!! By the way - they are also open seven days a week. And until 7 PM during the week. Could they be any more magical? read more

The team at Riverwalk Pet Hospital and Spa is so friendly and professional. You can tell they care about the employees and company culture which reflects on how they treat their patients. They offer vet services, surgeries, dog and cat boarding, day care, ect. They are focused on having a fear free practice. They have thoughtfully designed the building with this in mind. They have outdoor spaces for dogs to go and receive vet services if going inside makes them nervous. The doctors try to be at eye level/ on their level as much as possible. You don't wait in the waiting room with other people and animals, you are brought into your own room pretty much when you arrive. Cats have their own separate rooms from dogs, so they limit the smells of animals that could bring them anxiety. They even have weigh stations built into the ground so that animals don't have to step up onto the scale. I feel super lucky to have such an amazing facility next to where I live and I am excited to have such a wonderful option for my pets in our community. Take your cat or dog here!! Our pup had been coming to daycare most days for well over a year and did boarding here when we had to go out of town. He passed away yesterday and we couldn't be more thankful for the great staff here. It was obvious that he loved coming to visit and that everyone here treated him so well. We also appreciate the special things like Father's Day and Mother's Day presents from our pup and the pet of the month award that gave us lasting memories. I brought one of our pets here for the first time after having gone to Dr. O'Gorman and Dr. Brashear for years at their previous practice. I can't say enough good things about how thorough, caring, and experienced they both are. It feels weird to look forward to taking my babies to see the vet! I was particularly happy with my cat's experience - she is a nervous baby but the cat room even had a cat tower for her to hide in, and they are so conscious about keeping the pets as relaxed as possible. And Dr. O'Gorman proudly gave me a very thorough tour and explained how every part of the design of the place was built around the comfort of the pets! We went to Riverwalk for the first time last month for vet services. This is the best vet I've ever taken my GSP. My dog has very bad anxiety with new places and people. Every single person we came across was accommodating and did everything they could to make it less stressful for my dog. This facility was planned down to the details, including paint colors that are calming for animals, soft music in each exam room, and pheromones throughout the building. Open 7 days a week. Sat and Sunday aren't full days but nonetheless not many vets are open weekends. The entire place is a Fear Free zone for pets and for parents as much as possible. Just ask for a tour and usually there is someone free who can be your tour guide or there might be a short wait or you could schedule one. They have parking but also a covered drive that anyone can use for pick up and droppffs and for emergencies. Lobby is spacious and plenty of light. The in floor scale in the lobby is covered to try and help pets want to get on it and wait to get weighed They have more than one vet there. There is Doggie Daycare & Boarding and did I say Groomer yet? Vanessa is awesome! They have enclosed area for the Kitty condos that you can see cats boarding there while in the lobby. Their areas for dogs are awesome too. Their doggie daycare areas are great. They keep big and little separate of course. When the texas rainy weather shows up during biz hours they have an enclosed area for the dogs to play & chase each other around in. They run specials all the time on products meds etc and they have several options of packages for doggie daycare. Exam rooms are spacious & comfy and you can even pay for the visit in the room if you want to or if lobby is very busy. They also have a separate off from the lobby loving & peaceful room with soft lighting etc for end of life times with your family member and your pets entire family if and when needed in place of a regular exam room. read more

RiverWalk is the best of the best! We love Dr. O'Gorman he always takes such great care of our babies. Our pup got cut pretty bad at the groomer and he quickly fit us in for stitches immediately after. She's doing much better now! We always board our pups here. Such a beautiful and clean facility. I recently took 2 of my cats here, one with urinary issues and the other with kidney disease. The facility is clean and attractive. The staff is friendly and Dr O'Gorman and Dr Hall are very knowledgeable and take their time to explain things, which I really appreciated.
