This was leaps and bounds above all the others. I had walked by it last summer on a walk and immediately set a reminder in my phone to sign my son up for this summer. It isn't just how well organized it is and the fact that the kids are outside in the water learning new things and challenging themselves every day, it's the way the director/owner (and all the counselors) speak to the children. It's exactly how you'd want someone leading your child while they are away from home - they teach respect, are firm in holding the kids accountable for behavior, but all in the name of having a positive experience. We will absolutely be signing him up here next year for at least half of the summer. They offer full day and half day, we did full day (8-4), but I ended up picking him up around 2 a couple of the days just because it was so hot out. I have heard the counselors consistently encourage and actively ensure the kids drink water and reapply sunscreen and you can tell they genuinely care about each and every kid. This is only my son's third day and he's already bonded with the staff and talks about Matty (the owner) multiple times a day. He's never been on any board other than a boogie board and within 1 hour on his first day he was paddling out on his own on a paddle board. I can just see his confidence beaming from this camp. Besides that, you're forced to eat there since there's nothing nearby to eat and you can't leave without paying another $20. Definitely an issue that needs to get resolved.

There are several things that really need improvement, especially considering how much visitors are paying. First, the lines to get inside can be ridiculous. After already paying $20+ for parking, having to wait in long lines just to enter is frustrating. Then, depending on the tournament, you may have to pay another $10-$50 just to watch the games. For the amount of money being spent, you would expect the overall experience and facilities to be much better. The heat was another major issue. I came here in August, and it was extremely hot inside. They had the delivery gates open, but that didn't seem to help much. With so many people packed inside watching games, the temperature made it very uncomfortable to sit around for hours. Another big problem is the lack of seating. The main gym has eight courts, but there are very few places for spectators to sit and watch the games. If you're coming for a tournament, plan ahead and bring your own chair, because you may be standing or sitting on the floor for long periods of time. The smaller gym on the other side has four courts and is even worse. It's very small, has basically no seating, and the layout is not very convenient. Getting between the two areas is also frustrating. There isn't a clear or convenient walkway connecting the main gym to the other side, which makes moving around during tournaments difficult, especially when there are large crowds. The snack bar was another disappointment. There weren't many food or drink options available, which is surprising considering how long people are typically there for these tournaments. The restrooms also needed more attention and were noticeably dirty during my visit. Overall, the location has the potential to be a great place for basketball tournaments, but the experience needs a lot of improvement. Better seating, cleaner restrooms, more reasonable parking and admission costs, improved ventilation/temperature control, and a better layout would make a huge difference. After multiple visits, I really hope the facility addresses these issues because, as it stands, the experience just isn't worth the cost and hassle.

Of course, because I was feeding goats & sheep at Barnyard Buddies…read more For $6 admission (at the time)(Groupon deals, as well), visitors to Barnyard Buddies can feed goats & sheep, and pet various animals. Buying a medium sized container of feed was more than enough, IMHO. Visitors are required to feed only the goats & sheep from the other side of the enclosure. Without feed, visitors can enter the closure & pet/brush the animals. Besides the goats & sheep, there are 2 pigs, chickens, and in a separate enclosure, emus & a cow. No access allowed to those, however. Pony rides are an option for little kids. The ride is around an oval track. There is also a playground area to burn up some energy. A few handwashing stations on premises to stay hygienic during your visit. Barnyard Buddies is an accessible nearby barnyard experience. I was lucky enough to grow up around chickens, so I'm not new to livestock. It's my firm belief kids should be around animals, and know where their food comes from, whether it be eggs, milk and/or meat. While not a place I'd recommend traveling large distances to visit, for those nearby or whom happen to be in the area, Barnyard Buddies is a wonderful opportunity to feed enthusiastically hungry goats & sheep, and brush plump piggies. Highly recommend!

I must say that while the duo tried their best at accommodating the students, their equipment was a bit lacking. The draw weight in the bow I used was next to nada. My try-everything-at-least-a-hundred-times husband agreed. Still, while my hubby and I were a bit disappointed with the private instruction and the equipment, this Sunday afternoon (2/23/20) was a perfect day to try new things. Other Highlights: + restrooms on site + our troop was able to bring snacks and drinks + picnic area right next to archery area + plenty of free parking + clean, safe grounds As long as COVID-19 does not ruin summer camp, there should be plenty of activities and day camps geared toward "developing teamwork skills and strengthening camaraderie." The programs are not just for youth. Workplaces can also schedule an outing for their employees. When dust finally settles from this Coronavirus s***... Our office staff came here to do some team building. We started out doing group activities that challenge team work, patience, active listening, communication, problem solving, and thinking about others. I loved the creativity and variety in the activities, it kept everyone actively engaged and nobody ever got bored. It might have been because we were all adults and they are used to a much younger clientele, but I hoped our group leaders would be a little more enthusiastic working with us since our group was a little low energy at some points. The second half of the day was more focused on personal goals and achievements, pushing your limits, and trusting in yourself and others. This one should be full of encouragement. Some of us were a lot more game for the ropes course than others but everyone did feel a sense of achievement and satisfaction at the end of the day. If you have never tried a ropes course/team building activities like the ones here at Camp Fire USA, I highly recommend it! It is a great experience and you'll make many fun memories!

Not sure about the actual center itself... but I got my Christmas Tree from them this year on Los…read moreAlamitos Blvd. So I went to tree lots all over Long Beach, Cerritos, and Hawaiian Gardens but I wasn't feeling the vibe from any of their trees. Plus I was trying to get a gauge of the prices of the trees with type and quality. I ended up getting my tree from them because not only was the 5 ft grand fir ($39) I picked out a super PINEY smelling one but the staff selling the trees were really friendly and patient and answering all my tree questions. My tree is also very furry, not a bald spot in sight and very shiny with soft needles. Staff and volunteer youth offered to trim brushes and the bottom of the tree to my liking. They also offer to bind your tree in plastic netting for transport, very helpful for me as I live in an apartment complex with stairs. They then strapped my tree to the top of my car =) Although the price of my tree was about $4 more than the same size and type of tree variety I chose from the other sights....there was something special about my tree and the people selling me the tree. It called out to me. Plus it had a very distinct and strong PINE smell, other lots trees didn't have that, other lots also had dry trees. My tree is super lush and green...love it, had to have it!! So worth it! For about $4 they also sell mistletoe which benefits the local boy scouts troop. Tree stands were $12 extra as well. The lot itself is also nice because its in a big lot with a tent covering the trees and they had holiday music and complementary hot cocoa and cider that the children were handing out. 100% of the proceeds of the sale go to the Los Alamitos Youth Center, so that makes me feel like I supported the local youth and still got something for the holiday.
