My wife and I had a wonderful experience purchasing a Californian 34 LRC through CA yacht co/Long Beach Yacht Center. As this was our first time purchasing a used boat, we were new to the process. Jay, our broker, was knowledgeable, honest, and went out of his way to ensure the deal went as smoothly as possible. He was always readily reachable and flexible with our scheduling, surveys, and haul outs. After the closing of the deal, there was a miscommunication (most likely our fault) about how long we would be able to keep the boat in its current slip. A week prior to our planned relocation, Jay informed us that the lease for the slip was up that day. We were panicked, with nowhere to keep the boat for at least a couple days. Without batting an eye, Jay went to the boat and moved it to their brokerage dock until we could sort out the relocation. Thank you, Jay, for going above and beyond and turning a stressful situation into a seamless one. 10/10 would do business with this company again. read more

While their self described passion is "...to deliver the best of the boating lifestyle", it appears their main passion is to hoard dock carts that belong to the marina and the city of Long Beach. They hide them on the docks and keep them locked up when they are not even there. It is not clear to me what they need 2 - 3 dock carts for since these boats stay in a slip all the time, but if this is the way they treat their neighbors, I would not trust them to sell my yacht, and would not trust them to broker a purchase. Came by to gander at the yachts. Tried striking up a conversation with the man who was there. A simple inquiry for a potential purchase. The guy didn't get up to greet us, he went as far as to act dismissive. Zero effort, clearly a total "Expletive". Advice, regardless of who you might think people are, or how much money they do or don't have, treat everyone like a potential buyer. Not coming back. I do not recommend to anyone. read more

Steve Curran asked if he could meet me in person, and after a face to face he sent me to meet Kimberly Levern the same day; I found a boat that fit my needs and budget, then they went about finding local Credit UnIons who could help me. Every step of the way, the entire staff was there to answer any questions and explain details to a new owner with patience. I was never rushed, never talked down to, and never made to feel on my own. Kimberly in particular was lovely and helpful, arranging insurance inspections, and getting ahold of everyone I needed to talk to in advance, and communicating to me how and why each step of the process of buying a boat happened. This is a company ran by genuine people who truly want to put the right boat into the hands of someone who will love owning it. If you've wanted to buy a boat but figured you can't afford it, or will get talked into something over your head; put your mind to rest; they'll make it happen and make sure you feel looked after the whole time. read more

I hate giving poor reviews for any business, however - the sale's broker (John) at the Long Beach location is honestly one of the worst yacht brokers I have ever encountered. We originally called to look at a Beneteau in Long Beach - came to see it with "John" at the Long Beach office and he was instantly unfriendly and absolutely no help whatsoever. He knew absolutely nothing about the boat and just kept saying other boats were a better deal because they were "made in America." And that if we needed to know more about the Beneteau for sale we could find out during the survey. Obviously we would find out more during a survey - but it would be nice to know *anything* about it before having it hauled out and surveyed. But whatever, fine, no biggie. We found a Hunter up north that ended up working out great, so no harm no foul. Fast forward a couple weeks and we are looking to purchase a second smaller vessel to keep in the Bay Area. We found a newly listed Catalina on the LBYC website and made an appointment to see it. The broker, Steve, was very pleasant to schedule with and did a great job (so if you get to use Steve, I'd definitely recommend him) however, the one who had to show us the boat was John. We came to see it and he was again extremely unpleasant right from the get-go. But okay, we weren't there for a personality contest - so no biggie. We spent about eight minutes looking at it after he roughly told us he knew absolutely nothing about it (you are the listing broker on it, right? You didn't ask the seller's anything at all upon listing it? Huh. Ok) and the whole time he leaned over from the companion way hatch and just glared at us. We really liked the boat and definitely would have considered making an offer, but as we were stepping out to the deck he said "so are you going to make an offer or what are we doing here?" (Literally, we had looked it over for less than 10 minutes). We said we really liked it and would consider it but needed to talk about it (it's nice to discuss a purchase with your family in private and not have someone glowering over your shoulder the whole time) and he had some comment about wasting his time (all ten minutes of it?). That was kind of it for me. His attitude was so tacky and rude from the get go, and he knew absolutely nothing about the boats he was selling. It was too bad, because the Catalina actually looked nice and was decently priced. But instead we drove straight up to SF and looked at a C&C similarly priced up there and were happy to make an offer with the very knowledgeable yacht broker up there who was extremely pleasant to work with and knew an extensive amount about the boats he had listed. So for the two times we went to Long Beach Yacht Center I can definitely say so long as John is the broker who has to show the boats we certainly won't be back a third time if the need ever arises. Too bad - we literally have our Hunter at Shoreline and LBYC is very convenient, but being treated the way we were was a big no thank you. Steve was very friendly to deal with - but unfortunately he wasn't the one showing the boats. read more

We had originally been dealing with a broker in Florida for a cruiser in Michigan that ended up costing us $$$ for the survey etc.; It fell out of escrow due to some shady misrepresentations. Then while biking in Long Beach we stumbled upon LYC & Steve Curran. He was so helpful, patient, knowledge & genuine. Long story short, Steve took us out sailing & we were Hooked. Buying a boat isn't like a car; the process is in depth & can be challenging. Steve was so patient, looking for the perfect sail that would fit our lifestyle & needs. I got the bug to buy a boat and the wife gave me her blessing. Step 1. Then I found Kimberly at Long Beach Yacht Center and she helped me find the right boat. Step 2. Now we sail all of the time. Step 3. Kimberly was awesome. She took an inordinate amount of time with me, taught me a whole bunch (which I needed), she even helped me land a mooring on our first trip to the island. Kimberly LeVern has been excellent! For the last year I have been looking at Yachts to buy and have been in and out trying to find the perfect one. I found it! However, my job has decided I need to move for career progression. So I was unable to buy here in Long Beach. Kimberly took the time over the year to show me each of the boats that I wanted to see and was well versed and knowledgeable. When you are a buyer and the salesperson chases you off.... No loss on my part.... but if you have your boat listed here... you just lost a potential buyer... 34 Atlantic Express "Paniolo"... been eyeing this boat online for the last 3 years... decided to come down and take alook since she is now at a dealers dock... before i can hop on to take a look... im being yelled at to not touch the boat... WTF??? So i asked questions regarding her diesel motors... his response... I dont know but they are diesels... go on our website... i ask more questions followed by... i dont know...WTF??? I think i know why this boat has been on the market for 3 years.... Im going to stick with the professionals... I purchased a boat from Cal Yacht Co with the help of Steve Curran and Jim Foyer. It's a fully loaded Hunter 460 made in 2000. Steve was so patient and helpful in finding the perfect boat for me.
