The facility itself is great. Docks are taken care of, bathrooms are clean for a boat launch. I like that I see the place patrolled by police every now and then. They could do a bit better job scrubbing the ramps themselves, lots of slim but very deep grooves so it's not much of a problem. The only reason this place gets a 3 instead of a 5 star review is for the price of admission, the boat wash down should be free like most other boat launch facilities. Why do patrons need to pay additional just to flush their motors and spray down their boats. Feels like a bit of a money grab. read more

I have been using your launch for over 20 years and super disappointed that you are raising your rates from $15 to $20 per launch at the end of August. I'm not aware of any other boat launches that charge that amount year around, not even the dunes or dana point launch. You may need to fix the dock as the rubber bumper guides are starting to peel off the north side dock, and your credit card reader took me ten minutes to scan my card after trying three different cards. It appears your reader is starting to fail as well. It would also be nice to see an explanation as to why you are raising your prices, and you should post the new rate increases on your website. Cathy Lewis does such an outstanding job running the Marina office. Cathy is setup and served a wonderful Holiday meal during the boat parade. I learn something from Cathy about the Marina every time we talk. Cathy is very organized and makes keeping your boat at the Marina either in the amazing dry storage or a beautiful slip a pleasure and a breeze. The Marina has never looked and felt better. The past two months have been wonderful. So nice to see Cathy running the marina officially. This has been a long time coming. The prior dockmaster was a complete wack job. She should have been fired years ago. I cannot tell you how many wonderful boaters left the marina during her 10 year. I hope they return now that Cathy is running things. She is awesome. Have to give this place a 1 star after staying in dry storage for 6 years. Gates and security - place "supposedly" has video cameras, but last Christmas the lot was broken into from the front fencing (in between dry storage entrance and the launch ramp). Thieves entered and stole multiple honda generators, including mine, and tons of other items. Many boats got ransacked and police reports made - BUT NOT recourse or assistance from Sunset Aquatics. Washdown is $2 for about 4-5 minutes - broken all of the time, no signage or anything. You waste your quarters and eventually, weeks or months later, it'l be fixed. Continually changing lease policies and yearly up-charges for dry storage. Every year my lease went up +$7 per month or more depending on whatever charges they would tack on that year.. Unsafe. Poor security. Money hungry management. The primary manager is not only rude, but will aggressively come after you during discussion and office visits. She's a bully and I've seen her go after a lot of people. I'm not a fan of bullies and have left, good luck if you choose to stay at Sunset Aquatics. read more

november 2022 before heading to catalina for the weekend, called 562 592 2833 because the boat next to me had its bilge pump running. LEAVE A MESSAGE. Returned three days later pump still running. called again and again. December, same thing, send email, no response. I started using this place when it was built and watched it turn into this wall of indifference. I leave my name /phone number clipped to my boat knowing a passing boater will let me know if something needs attention. Cathy was the only decent person running that place. Our family purchased a boat that had already been located at this marina and we couldn't imagine going anywhere else. The grounds are clean and very well maintained- great for BBQs and plenty of parking for friends and family who come down for the day. The restrooms are always stocked and very clean. And last, but definitely not least, the staff is GREAT. All of the ladies running the office are kind, always smiling, and always helpful. They have created a very personable and warm family boating environment that you will love as much as our growing family has for the last several years. RUDEST, UNPROFFESIONAL and DON'T CARE FOR CUSTOMER AND MOST TERRIBLE SERVICE RECEIVED EVER! CURSED AT US, ACCUSED US OF LIARS, AND WON'T GIVE US MONEY WE ARE OWED. Nancy promised me a rate of $100 a month for the trailer only storage. Then offered me a deal of $375.00 with the slip and trailer if we were to dock the boat at their slip. The slip was $350 a month alone and for additional $25 she offered us to store the trailer. We got there Oct 2nd, and purchase 1 day at $12 for the parking, and another 3 days for another $36 totalling $48. I went inside to let the girl know that we purhased 4 days worth of parking for the trailer. she said just put the 3 days and she will credit us the extra day when we come back a different day. We then go in and wrote a check for app for $44, then $156 for 13 days of parking, when we were promised $100 for the month, and then $100 for deposit. When she heard that the boat is still at Peter's Landing, she all of a sudden reneg on the trailer price of $25 parking, and went to $100 per month and will charge us the $12 per day for parking pro rated since according to her we filled app that day?? She calls us the next day to tell us we were approved for the slip. We told her we'll think about it and that she cannot cash the check in because we were thinking of signing a lease across the way. This was a saturday. we knew she was off Sunday ad MOnday and little did we know, the check was cashed! I get a call about our trailer and an offer to buy our trailer for $1500. This is after she has collected $348 from us. I told her I would be by the next day. I emailed her about her offer for the boat, and to my surprise, she started talking in 3rd person in her email, i guess she wasnt suppose to be doing personal dealings while she was at work and got all upset. We go in Thursday, to take trailer out after receiving her nasty email, we were trying to talk to her about her offer, and she got all defensive and started talking about the deal is off. We were trying to explain to her that we felt that we were taken advantage of. To offer us $100 for the month, and we ended up paying $348 for 3 weeks. and after calculating it all she owed us $40 dollars and she wouldn't budge and started screaming and threatening to call the police.. Told us FUCK YOU , you are LIARS! Ministries my ass!! etc. she was cursing our ministry because she didn't get what she wanted? We wouldn't sell the trailer for less than $1850 is all that we were trying to tell her. That if she were to give back the $348 we paid plus the $1500 she offered,was a fair deal. needless to say, we left that place, and never to return there. I am contacting GK to let them know the management they have is rude and unethical. read more

A marina is more of a community than most apartment complex's as we watch each other's assets and are there for a get-away, not living on top another. I realize this is just a plain ol' Yelp review, but I must say it helps me to know that if I can warn just one person about the management of this place it will serve its purpose. Staying within the Yelp guidelines all I can say is RUN don't walk away from this place. Everyone from the people at the "corporate" office to the management office on-site do NOT care about you. They want their money and that is all. If you're looking for customer service, you won't find it here. You can write letters to the dock manager's boss and they will simply never return your call, e-mail or handwritten requests. Why do they do this? Because they can. There will always be another boat that will need docking and there are only so many spaces. But the time will come, maybe not now but eventually when the manager of this place or the business itself will have to close up shop and move on. People will only be treated poorly for so long before they have enough and walk away. Taking their hard earned money with them. So if you do decide to make this your home... I read through some of the other reviews of this place and I mostly agree with them. However I think I found a solution. First my thoughts and then you get my solution. My thoughts are like many others. The lady at the counter is rude, short (not in stature but in attitude) and seems like she hates her job. We were looking to move here from Newport and decided not to make the move based on her poor attitude. We wanted to take a look around and she was very much against it. So if we don't get to look at where we are going to park the boat then we won't park the boat here. Now for that, this place gets one star. However....... I think this launch ramp facility is extremely nice. The docks are all smooth so you could walk on them barefoot if you wanted to and not feel like you are going to hurt yourself. (walk on dock barefoot at own risk). The cleats are all well maintained and secure. I love that you pull up to a kiosk pay your fee using cash or card, the gate opens you enter. launch your boat, park your truck and trailer and you are on your way. Also, there is a nice peace of mind knowing that you are right by the OC Sheriffs Dept. Its just kind of nice. Five stars for the actual ramp and facilities. So my solution is don't park your boat and trailer here full time. pull it over here, launch it and have a great day in the water. the best part is you don't have to talk to ANYONE!!! read more

I decided to wait a little while before posting a review so that I could really get a feel for the marina and the people who run it. Based on other reviews, I was a little worried about making Sunset Aquatic Marina my permanent home for our new boat, I needn't have worried. Both Nancy and Cathy have been great to work with and I can't imagine anyone having issues with them. I'm thinking that the bad reviews are from people who don't like following the rules and the rules are in place to make sure the marina is kept clean and safe which it certainly is. I love the location, the close proximity of the fuel dock, the amenities and the easy in and out to the ocean. I've been here a couple of months now and I couldn't be happier. Thanks to the whole staff for making this a great new home for our boat and we hope to stay here for many years to come. read more

Five stars go out to dockmaster Nancy and her team at Sunset aquatic. They made my move into dry storage so easy and I have been launching every week since. They've got a great setup - dry storage is right next to the launch ramp, the wash rack is close by and there's always lots of parking. The dry storage lot is fenced in and has surveillance cameras throughout and I really like that they provide a night time security patrol. With my electronic key, I can come and go 24/7 and I don't pay extra to launch. The whole Marina including the docks, slips, pump-out station, restrooms and park are all very well maintained thanks to Alberto and his friendly and helpful staff. The review below is my opinion and personal experience with G&K management.AVOID PUTTING YOUR BOAT HERE!! All of their recent reviews have been a 1-star and there is a good reason why. It hard to believe the city of HB leases out this community property to G&K MANAGEMENT of Carson in LA. The management here has just gone downhill since Cathy left because she couldn't stand the management treated her either. The corporate person/Director-in-charge RITA COLLINS at corporate cares NOTHING about tenants. It's all about money to her and " Market rate". So now and all future 20% Market rate yearly slip hikes each year mean nothing to them. They care nothing at all about keeping the tenants they have and relationships with those of us that have been here for years ( I've been here for over 5 years and they should have been paying me to stay here with their gastapo manager Nancy). Thus management cares only about the money and it's reflected by their greedy attitude of customer service and lack of caring. At a time when the HB locals and the country are hurting and struggling with 7% inflation/CPI what does G&K management do?? They raise their rates 17-25% !!! Normal rates were in the 3.8% range over years and now in my opinion and experience all RITA COLLINS think about is getting more and more money out of tenants. So you want a marina for your boat that provides a good service, cares for its tenants and doesn't gouge those when times are hard...AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Sunset Marina and G&K management are getting 1-stars for a reason. They just don't care about what they charge you and who you are as a tenant. You've been warned... just go elsewhere. They ask for a 44$ credit check and then tell you no unless you're a millionaire. I recommend asking a lot of questions. I have a 770 credit score with 10,000 in savings and never missed a payment in six years. They made it seem like everything I brought was enough. Then I got a call two days later saying I'm not good enough. They denied my space for a 13 foot whaler and keep my 44$. Take your chance. I was willing to spend 2400$ this year just to stay in a parking spot. But they got their 44$ Wast of time and money. read more

Please read before you sign a lease!!! I had a slip in Sunset. During my stay they changed their rules and no longer allow paddle boards or kayaks to be stored on your boat or dock even on racks designed for boards. Yes you read that right. NO PADDLE BOARDS OR KAYAKS. They also raised rates and the bridge construction to get there is a nightmare. Beside the new rules and cost. The manager is really unprofessional. I spent a year there. Never caused problems and always paid my bill. When I gave my 30 day notice she was so rude to me. So unfortunately, I must say there is truth to the negative comments listed above. Please understand why Sunset is the only marina with available slips. There is a reason for that and it's listed above. Don't make a mistake like me and sign a year lease. read more

I have had my boat 31 years and have never seen such a rude staff in the office. They will also claim you have not paid dockage when they loose your check then threaten to put a lien on your boat. You know what's better than owning a boat? Having friends or family who have one! Since a really sweet yacht recently sailed its way into my sister's family's life, I now have a cushy seat from which I can judge the finer things in life. Things like yesterday's holiday parade at the Huntington Harbour, for instance, which was a joy and a half. And since my hubby and I showed up for the event an hour before anyone else, we got to check out the Sunset Aquatic Marina where the boat is docked. I don't really know on which criteria to judge the actual marina since my sister and brother in law pay the fees and deal with management (I just have to bring my sunny personality), but I liked the fact that the parking was plentiful and the harbor patrol officers seemed friendly when they thought we needed help (we didn't, we were just walking around trying to guess which majestic creature bobbing up and down on the gentle waves was the one we were gonna get a ride on). There was some bench seating where we could wait but the thing that sucked was that every bathroom we came across was completely locked up and could only be accessed with a gate code or a key fob. That's not super cool and maybe I just didn't find the public bathroom that may be on the property, but please be aware of this if you're gonna be waiting for anyone or just come by to check out the boats. I finally got to use it when my nephew came to open it up with their private fob, and it was a nice, spacious bathroom with shower stalls for folks who actually live on the boats, but again, not the best of feelings to have to wait for that kind of access. This is where my sister docks her boat. I get to visit every time I'm in the area and that makes for some good times. The place is clean and well kept. The slips are well maintained and clean. My brother in law had some trouble at the last place he was docked. They blamed him for boat damage on his own boat that was clearly caused by the rotting slip. The thing I want to mention about this Marina is the people and the way they interact with others. Everyone that I have met there has been very friendly and helpful. People there are always smiling and willing to lend a hand. My latest visit ended with a random person helping get the boat in the slip as soon as we pulled in. The wind was blowing pretty hard and,I'll be the first to admit, I'm not he greatest deck hand. It's a fairly large boat and this guy from 2 slips over just came over and guided us in like butter on bread. It's a close ride to Catalina Island, where my family likes to hang and it's convenient to my sister's house. Overall, it's a great place to dock your boat. read more

I recently Went to Sunset aquatic marina to check on availability of slips. One of the reasons I went there, is the way to Marina is run and taken care of. The marina and surrounding facilities are always very clean and well maintained. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by Nancy who is the dock master. Nancy was extremely professional and friendly. She explained to me what slips were available and the pricing. She then took the time to tour me around the marina and show me the available slips. She went above and beyond what I expected. I can see why this marina is always full and so well taken care of. Unfortunately the boat I was purchasing fell through, but I will be back. Starting the week of June 22, 2015, will be our 3rd year launching at Sunset, and 5th year renting a slip there. We have had nothing but great experiences there with Nancy and the entire staff. We live in Arizona and tow our boat there to launch and stay, and visit other marinas and Catalina also, but consider Sunset our home on the coast. We are guests there, and they treat us as such. The facilities are clean and top notch, and prices are similar to others. The only complaint I have is that the pump out dock is difficult, and occasionally hasn't been in 100% working order, but it's free! read more

We just got back from a week there and rented a slip for a week at $25 a day. very nice staff/clean/restrooms close by. we were able to leave our boat trailer there as well for no additional parking costs.Taking away one star cause we went on Friday to take our boat out and it was lunch time and there was no way to get into the gate without having to pay an additional $12 dollars.Other than that I'd recommend to anyone..just don't try to get your boat out around lunch time..tee-hee Hope this review doesnt get filtered as most of my other ones have. Just terminated my lease due to Dissatisfaction with Management, specifically the ,Dockmaster, Nancy Pfeifer. See other reviews, Ms Pfeifer has no management, personal or social skills. I have had a boat in the marina for 5 years. She randomly enforces the rules and openly brags about it. She has hung up on me in mid conversation and dismissed me from the office. She treats the boat owners as if we are trailer trash! She creates a hostile environment and doesn't care about customer service. The marina was a much better place to dock a boat before Ms Pfeifer arrived. Boat owners wait for her days off to do business in the office. Most boat owners would prefer is she were fired. The management company doesn't seem to care about the problem! Don't rent a slip in Sunset Marina! read more

Figured I would throw in my comments as it seems pretty lopsided. I am 52 and have spent most of my life on boats, in marinas and boat yards in multiple states and regions both professionally and recreationally. I currently have my trailerable powerboat stored here at Sunset. The facility is nice. Usually, comparatively quiet even when they are busy especially compared to other launch ramps in OC. The maintenance on the facility and the docks is top notch and the place is clean and up to date. As far as the folks that work in the management office, I have had nothing but great interactions with them including when I was looking for storage but they didn't have any vacancies as well as when I wanted to change my storage spot. My ONLY complaint is the limited rinse down and having to pay for the water. I get it...I'm just not stoked about it. read more
