9 times out of 10, our order is incorrect; even simple things! We always call ahead and our order is never ready when we arrive. This place used to be great but idk what happened in the last few years. Driving out to another location is more than worth your time and gas. Every time I order here, my order is wrong. It doesn't matter if it's in store or over the phone, somehow they can't write down simple instructions that are clearly conveyed. I order a sandwich and 2 wraps over the phone today (chicken Caesar salad wrap and egg salad wrap). I waited 20 minutes before heading in just to see that they didn't even bother making the chicken wrap order. After waiting for 5 minutes, they hand me my food and told me that they don't have croutons or cheese. I was confused why they didn't address this before making it or while I was waiting for them to finish. All this just to find out they didn't even bother putting Caesar dressing either on a chicken Caesar salad wrap! Also didn't bother including other ingredients on the egg salad wrap. Decided to try this place. It was pretty busy. Batches of people came in and I think it was only busy because they couldn't get the food out in time. We ordered a turkey egg and cheese, bagel with lettuce tomato onions lox and scallion cream cheese, apple cinnamon cream bagel, and the sun dried tomato cream cheese bagel. All on different bagels scooped out and toasted. Plus some coffee. Now that took nearly 20 mins...crazy. the lox sandwich came with one of their sides so I chose potato salad. That was NOT good. They were a bit lite on the smear. I actually liked the sun-dried tomato cream cheese. Felt their bagels tasted a bit on the dry side. The staff was nice and friendly. Especially, this one guy with dreads. He seemed to connect with repeat customers. Oddly the pastries they offered did not look appetizing. There was a black and white cookie big enough to feed a family of 4. As a chef, I don't think they are using the space correctly. It looks and feels cluttered. They should try and stream line the service to get the food out faster. Also work on quality... I finished my whole coffee way before I even got my food. I asked for a bagel with turkey bacon, egg whites I received a bagel with slices of Turkey & pork bacon with over cooked egg whites. Very disappointed in this place we try and support the local businesses and this is what you get nasty food. Just a quick note to the owner or Mgr of this place. The way the ceiling dust is hanging from vents and drop ceiling should be cleaned along with the white fan with mounds of black dust. I am from the boroughs and I know a good bagel when I have one; this was the best bagel I have had since I moved to Long Island! And I didn't have to ask for extra bitter it was tasted and buttered perfectly. Something about a New York bagel toasted and buttered that just satisfies an empty tummy. I had an onion bagel and it was delicious, not too many onion pieces on the outside and not too overpowering of an onion taste. The service was really fast, efficient and friendly. Came here to pick up some food before a training I had in baldwin. I ordered the food at least 25 minutes in advance and it still wasn't ready. My family and I have given Baldwin Bagel Cafe substantial business for over a decade. Sadly, today marks the end of that. To be fair, the quality of the bagels and spreads are pretty solid and the lox is always fresh. But paying almost top dollar for average food is hardly worth tolerating the way their staff treats customers and the ridiculous wait time. I stopped to place a family order of 6 bagels and it wasn't very busy. I was attended by "Eva." She was unnecessarily dismissive and disrespectful, making comments to the other female worker and mocking the way I ordered. When I asked her if there was a problem, she shrugged and continued to laugh. She brought out my order completely wrong. I had to restate what I wanted and remind her to please toast the bagels, which she failed to do. When my order was finally ready 25 mins later, I was already too disillusioned with the service I simply left with whatever it was she gave me. Sure enough, two of the bagels were purposely all wrong: I'd asked for turkey bacon and got ham. Go figure.. The parking is tedious; not so much entering but exiting the lot. Fool me once.. The food is basic enough but the wait is ridiculous. Even when it's quiet with only 1 or 2 customers you will wait far too long for the most simple dishes. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns....10-12 minutes. The place had one other customer when I walked in. I wasn't even in a hurry but we are talking about a dish that literally takes 5 minutes to make or less given bacon & sometimes hash is usually prepared early on. Basing this solely on observation and mngmt. experience, the delay times are caused by lack of attention by the staff. Often the dish is finished but the staff doesn't check on the orders in the back. I've complained twice before and each time I say something the dish is miraculously ready 30 seconds later. And they always say "it takes a little longer". I guess they forget people have eaten at other places for years and we can tell what a long time is by comparison. I will absolutely no longer go to this location. If they are not paying attention when it's quiet....what else is wrong that we don't see? When it comes to food that's enough to scratch a place off the list. Update: July 2019 and I still won't go back to here. But if you are on the way, go to Ferrings about 1-1/2 miles up the road toward the SS parkway. First time back there in a long time. I ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches and they were done in 5 min tops. Ordered from here through door dash. First issue was that I ordered a hot regular coffee and got a ice coffee. Not a huge deal but annoying when your paying for what you want. Second issue- I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese. I ate one half of the sandwich. As I picked up the other half to eat I noticed a piece of "hair like" substance sticking out the sandwich. I opened the sandwich and there was a black, long piece of hair intertwined between the egg and sausage. I am African American and this piece of hair was straight, long, jet black. Usually this place has always great customer service but unfortunately this last time the service was terrible. It was a Sunday, I ordered a pick up over the phone. When I arrived the lady who helped had an attitude. I told her I was picking up a phone order and she said that they didn't have the order. I told her to please check again, she gives me more attitude and asks her coworker who replies that the order was ready. She screams at him and reminds him that on Sundays they don't take phone orders. She puts the order in a bag and I remind her that the order brings a bagel, she rolls her eyes at me and turns around to prepare the bagel, without even asking me which bagel I wanted. She puts the bagel in the bag and I tell her that I wanted a toasted bagel, she takes the bagel and throws it and proceeds to tell her coworker to make the bagel because she's annoyed. This used to be my favorite place to get a bagel, muffin, or egg sandwich until I realized they are unsanitary. The staff use the same glove to accept money, use the cash register, make drinks, and prepare food. I witnessed this three different times and had to ask for the worker to change his glove before handling my food. I hate to do it, but I will have to patronize another bagel shop because Lord knows what happens in the kitchen. read more
