Nasty Food. Fried Fish Oil Smell.& Taste Horrible. Johnson County Health Dept. need to shut this nasty place down.

Fast greasy fish, could you love anything else...? Ok, on most occasions this place isn't that fast. They're making it fresh and I can bare a couple mere minutes for a fresh greased fish, chicken, fries, corn, or puppies. One of my friends use to have a problem with this establishment not giving enough tater sauce. Even when she was willing to pay extra. I was witness to the whole manager phone TS debate. Now all is better and they are no longer stingy with the sauce in the drive thru. lol I've never eaten inside. They fixed the drive-thru speaker so the people can hear you. Use to be hell ordering with the speaker pointing right at a busy intersection. It is also half A&W too. I was never a A&W fan. So I just stick to the LJS side. Luckily, they haven't gotten rid of any LJS food to make way for the A&W menu. All is good in the greasy food world.

My three piece chicken meal was very good, with tasty cole slaw, delicious meaty slightly crunchy but not greasy fries, and okay chicken. The service at the counter was welcoming, professional, and polite. My meal was delivered to my table seven minutes after I ordered at the counter. The dining area was clean, with contemporary background music. Not bad.

Stepping inside is like stepping straight into 1990--clean, nostalgic, and completely frozen in time. We kicked off with the traditional, complimentary family-style spread: ham and beans, hush puppies, and coleslaw. I'm not a big beans-and-slaw guy, but they nailed the traditional flavor profile for anyone who is. The hush puppies, however, were a total Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Dry--half of them were perfectly moist with a crisp shell, while the rest felt ready to turn to dust in the wind. I went non-traditional and reeled in the Hunter's Special: rotisserie duck (leg and thigh), fried quail, and a jumbo frog leg with mashed potatoes and gravy. The taters and gravy were easily the most comforting part of the meal. All the meats delivered good flavor, though It was like biting into you an oil slick. The fried quail was the standout catch of the day for me--I'm one of those people who eats the bones, so aside from the heavy grease, I was in crunch heaven. One highlight of the plate was trying the Gunslinger hot sauce, which delivered the fiery flame I was looking for. Service was the biggest snag of the night. My friend mentioned the staff is usually exceptionally friendly, but our server gave off pure robot energy--strictly matter-of-fact with zero charisma. The ultimate cringe moment was watching her grab our drink glasses from the top like an arcade claw machine, completely crushing my friend's straw in the process. The food made it to the table, but human warmth was entirely off the menu. Come for the rustic nostalgia, the crunchy quail, and the Gunslinger sauce--just hope for a server with a bit more soul.

Tucked away in a cute shopping district is Penny's! We had no idea what we were walking in to but I am so happy to have found it! As you walk up you are greated by colorful upside down umbrellas with flowers inside, the water feature and the outside dinning! If it wasn't so hot I would have demanded sitting on the patio! As we were promptly seated in started hearing a "tink tink" sound and looked up. Yall!! The cutest glass hummingbirds were hanging from the ceiling. It was stunning!! Ok, the food!!! I had the crab fried rice which my husband had to help me finish because it was a huge amount! Share if you can but with the understanding you might fight over the last bite. If you still have room after dinner get the butter cake! Ladies, it is worth the calories! The waiter was prompt and had us with drinks in no time! This is an absolute do again if we are ever in the area!

The restaurant is nice and quaint. It wasn't super busy at the time we got therr which was good. Service was amazing, just like it is at Bamboo Penny. We both ordered tye Pad Thai. Mine with no peanuts with chicken and steak. Hubs had peanuts and chicken, steak, and shrimp. He also had a drink that looked like water but definitely wasn't. He said it was tasty. I had a Coke. Overall, a nice substitute if you can't get to Bamboo Penny. The only thing that was different was I wasn't offered the different sauces/spices to add to the Pad Thai.

Guess what if you have a place which serves Mexican seafood go try something like this. This place specializes in seafood in Mexican cuisine perhaps this is the second location there's another location in the downtown, which we have been to, but let's get to how we like this place Food I would say was not amazing but good we didn't like the paella the rice was mushy. It was smelling different because of the clams and oysters that was definitely not fresh. We didn't smell a lot of saffron added to the food the crab meat queso was amazing and we also ordered another Spanish or Mexican shrimp with spicy sauce. That was amazing. The margarita was great.. There was literally one person available in the restaurant who was taking care of the bells bar food any requests coming? We felt a little bad that she didn't have a lot of help but she was super awesome. Very sweet. Took care of us like anything running around everywhere gave a huge tip to her. My waiter was Kara she let me know upfront she had not been working here that long, but she also was pretty knowledgeable and when she didn't know something, she found the answer for me. She was great at helping me find options and she was really nice. Drink: I love that their drinks weren't pre-made I got a ready fire aim with rum (bellows) instead of mezcal and it was really good. Perfect hint of spice and sweetness. The water was really nasty though. Food: Everything is made to order and customizable which is rare. -(6) Grilled chili butter oysters my favorite very great flavor -(6) Grilled Stuffed Oysters this was very different but still good I was nervous about the octopus idk of if I necessarily taste it was a fishy flavor but still great to try. I would probably try it without octopus next time. My waiter suggested using the premade lime mixture to cut the fishy taste and it worked perfectly and I also tried the habanero lime mixture. That's on the table and that tastes good as well it cut the fishiness. -Ceviche tostadas no carrots and light cilantro no (btw this is the Pacifico one): probably the best ceviche I've had and I added the habanero purée and it was perfection.

Our waitress greeted us warmly and wished us happy anniversary and told us that for celebrating with them we'd receive a special dessert or a champagne toast. Another lovely surprise. It could not have been more delicious. My husband enjoyed their Three Way Chicken, a dish so plentiful he took one piece home with him. We hit the club for brunch with a group, and while the ambiance was pure "Country Club Chic," the execution was a bit more "Sunday Morning Sand Trap." The Liquid Courage I started off my round with two drinks. the Bloody Mary. It was fine--tasty enough, but it certainly didn't change my life or inspire any poetry. However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.
