Service was very good, only drawback was the waiter's inability to understand some basic questions about their menu, for example Are the shrimp in the shrimp tacos fried? We were told that they were-they were not. The whole fried tilapia shown in a photo on the menu has shrimp on top of it. When it was served, there were no shrimp on it. When asked the waiter said it was an extra $5 for the shrimp. Odd in my opinion. The menu is extensive. Same with the cocktail menu. The ambience is average. This place has been on my list to try for a while, so I was excited when my buddy decided for us to go here after work. The setting is very casual. We started off with a Michelada flight, which was a nice sampler of three different styles. I then ordered a seafood tower (torres). It comes with a good variety of seafood, and the portion is very generous. The only downside is that the server was a little pushy to take our order, when we were trying to have some conversation instead of ordering within the first 2-5 minutes. Trying fresh seafood in the middle of the country can be a gamble, but this place does it well. I will have to come back with the wife and try some of their other options. read more

Wow! Mariscos offers a variety of food a bev options with kick. Me and a couple of girlfriends came and were pleasantly surprised not only by the quality of the food, but the price of it as well! We each had two cocktails and a crab boil each for under $100! Our server was kind and took excellent care of us! What an unexpected find on our Friday night search for a dinner option. We had some late afternoon errands & were hungry so we decided on finding something near the area we were in and through Yelp found Mariscos KC. Let's just say we are not hesitating to go back. We focused on the Cajun options with my husband getting the Shrimp Boil & I worked hard on the Crawfish Boil. We are not strangers to Seafood Boils and their base is the best we've ever had. The servers were smiling, friendly and efficient; especially Jenny who took great care of us. We like to sit at the bar especially a new place. This review is for the new location in Shawnee, Kansas because they do not have their new location listed yet. My husband and I went for their soft opening several weeks ago. The space is nicely redone and is very clean and bright. We were greeted immediately and sat immediately, but it took a long time for the waitress to come over and take our order, even though there were many servers just standing around the bar. I ordered the fajitas and my husband ordered their shrimp fried rice. The fajitas were just average, the portions were good size. I did appreciate their homemade guacamole. My husband said that his shrimp fried rice was pretty good and he ordered extra shrimp as well. They have an extensive menu and a variety of alcohol alcoholic beverages. The food came out in a decent amount of time from someone from the kitchen. It was a beautiful evening and it was quite crowded inside, so we opted to sit outside...and kinda froze as the evening progressed (would not be remiss if they added heaters outside). Even though it was so crowded, our waitress took the time to help us figure out drinks an food options. I wanted to try their cocktails...sadly I cannot remember what I ordered. I wanted something less sweet and it was what was recommended...unfortunately, I was not a fan. Not because it was a bad, but I freely admit to being a snob when it comes to cocktails. Even though it wasn't as sweet...still waaaaaay too sweet for me. That being said, the food was far and away much better. I loved the calamari strips! Something similar but different to the traditional calamari starters you get...and they came out piping hot!! So YAY! He ordered the chicken tacos (boring LOL) but loved them so of course, always a win! I had the Molcajete Caliente - OMG the broth was delicious (like trying to drink with a straw delicious) and everything was perfectly cooked. My only complaint was that it wasn't spicy enough. This place totally shocked me. We went here because of the pics and when we drove up, admittedly, we pre judged. It's a kind of small diner looking place and we assumed the food couldn't really be as good as the pics showed. WRONG!! We've been here three times now and every time it totally blows us away. Everything is so fresh, amazingly seasoned, and really good sized portions. The molcajete with crab legs is probably the best you'll find in the metro area. The fajita meat was honestly so tender we were going to ask them what they do to marinade bc it was just soooo good. Not only is the food 10/10, but the service is incredible. This is a must-try place if you're a seafood lover. I've heard great reviews about Mariscos before trying them it lives up to the hype. I got a michelada with Dos Equis and it was delicious and a good drink with the seafood. We got the yellowfin tuna and baby octopus as a starter. The tuna was surprisingly very fresh and the additional vegetables made it even more refreshing. There was a bit too much sliced carrots though. The baby octopus is a favorite of mine due to its spicy sauce. It is very spicy but I couldn't stop eating it! I love the texture of octopus and the caramelized onions. We also tried the baja tacos which include fish, shrimp, and calamari. We were dissatisfied that it came with flour tortillas but the spicy mayo sauce was really good and complimented the seafood well. Lastly, we got the octopus tostada with mango habanero sauce. This sauce was delicious but very spicy! The octopus on this tostada was good as it was perfectly chewy and the avocado balanced it well. The service was great! I've driven past this place for 3 years and finally tried it tonight for the last Friday in Lent. First, it was popping!!! The parking lot was packed and so was the restaurant, we got the last table and when we left there was quite a wait. I had the baja tacos, 1 fried fish, 1 calamari and 1 grilled shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. I try fish tacos everywhere I go and these might have just become my new favorite. At lunch you can get 3 for $10! My husband got the loaded fries with shrimp and he thought they were fine but he thinks he ordered wrong and would try something different next time. Not much to say because everything was fantastic with a lot of flavor. Service was great, food was extraordinary. I ordered the Carnitas tacos and my girlfriend had ordered the Baja Tacos -- one of each (Calamari, Fish, Shrimp). An order of 3 tacos is $15, but well worth the price when taking into consideration the amount of toppings they come with and the size of the overall taco. I also ordered a Tequila Sunrise and a Strawberry Daiquiri for the lady! Both cocktails were made extremely well with a decent amount of alcohol used. Wow, what a great experience! We came in from out of town and used Yelp to find a place just like this. It's got a cool modern design to it. It's not very big, but it also has some patio seating for warmer weather. The food was amazing - calamari strips were probably the best we've ever had! Everything else was fresh and delicious. We had fish tacos, the seafood tower, and even the shrimp boil was on point. I highly recommend you try the Michelada, it was fantastic.
