This place specializes in seafood in Mexican cuisine perhaps this is the second location there's another location in the downtown, which we have been to, but let's get to how we like this place Food I would say was not amazing but good we didn't like the paella the rice was mushy. It was smelling different because of the clams and oysters that was definitely not fresh. We didn't smell a lot of saffron added to the food the crab meat queso was amazing and we also ordered another Spanish or Mexican shrimp with spicy sauce. That was amazing. The margarita was great.. There was literally one person available in the restaurant who was taking care of the bells bar food any requests coming? My waiter was Kara she let me know upfront she had not been working here that long, but she also was pretty knowledgeable and when she didn't know something, she found the answer for me. She was great at helping me find options and she was really nice. Drink: I love that their drinks weren't pre-made I got a ready fire aim with rum (bellows) instead of mezcal and it was really good. Perfect hint of spice and sweetness. The water was really nasty though. This place was great! I haven't been to a Mexican restaurant with a seafood emphasis. My wife and I took my parents here. We got a couple different appetizers and each got different entrees. I had Jarocho on my list of places to try for the longest time and decided on finally going for my birthday dinner. We made a reservation through their website for a Friday night. The restaurant wasn't too busy. We were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered a couple drinks and started with the blue crab queso for an appetizer. Drinks were very good! It was my first paloma ever, so I'm by no means an expert but it hit the spot. The blue crab queso was very tasty, and we made quick work of it in just a few short minutes. It was served with the perfect amount of chips to just finish off the queso with the last chip. For our entrees, we went with the seafood paella and the stuffed trout. The stuffed trout was packed full of flavor. It was just the right amount of food for dinner to finish off and not have leftovers (which was great as seafood is not the best reheated). The one downside of our dinner was the lack of seafood in the seafood paella. The dish is served with a TON of rice, and then there was just a tiny amount of seafood on top. It did not seem worth the price for mostly a very large portion of rice. Our server was very attentive and helpful in answering questions about the menu and giving recommendations. I have had this spot on my wish list for a while now. I'm so glad I finally tried it. The ambiance is inviting, and the staff is friendly. We were greeted right away, ordered drinks that were delicious. We ordered oysters, and they were good. I ordered the elotes which I love but it was very spicy, be careful my friend loves spicy so she enjoyed it. She ordered the whole fish and it was so good, she even gave me the eye. My partner and I eat here almost every time we're in town. It is consistently delicious and exactly what I'm expecting when I order. The menu has a great variety and I really appreciate the freshness of the food. The service is always attentive, but not too much. And the space is nice and open without overwhelming music drowning out conversation. You can also see the open kitchen and it is always very clean and well kept. Excellent service! Fun atmosphere with an open kitchen layout. I had the Ghost Paloma to start and hubby had a top shelf margarita. I really enjoyed my cocktail - it had a hint of heat, not overly sweet and mostly just a really smooth drink with well balanced flavor. I would definitely recommend! We tried the Shrimp Cucaracha and fresh guacamole as appetizers. Loved the shrimp dish - so much flavor in the spicy sauce! I could have made this my dinner and might do so in the future. The guacamole was also very fresh tasting and nicely balanced. I ordered the seared scallops and hubby had the lobster tail for dinner. He thought his lobster was fantastic and the corn it was served with was not only part of a great presentation, it was loaded and flavorful and not just an afterthought. It's a small restaurant, but has an intimate atmosphere. The service was great. Our waitress Lesly and her trainee (I'm sorry I forgot her name ) were great and very helpful. We had two of the new appetizers. The fried soft shelled crabs and the grilled stuffed oyster. They were so good. I'd definitely get it again. Fried fresh market catch - today they had red snapper. This was similar to what we get in Mexico. It was just delicious. Very fresh. Accompanied with slaw and rice and corn tortillas. You're at the mercy of whatever size fish they have so we got a 2.5 lb which is a lot of fish so we took the rest home. You have to request the habanero sauce which we did but they could have made it spicier like in Mexico. 2. Grilled octopus - not grilled enough. Chewy and not super tasty. I would skip this one 3. This is a true gem and an amazing dining experience! I'm not sure there's anyone else specializing in Mexican seafood in the KC area so it's certainly unique. This locations atmosphere is unassuming and very comfortable and the waitstaff are fantastic. But that's only part of the story! We've been here a few times for a nice dinner out and have left already talking about what we'll order next time. The variety of the ceviches offered should suit anyone's taste. The dishes are perfectly prepared and certainly have an upscale feel without the price tag. There's no corners cut, mind you. They just serve great food for a reasonable price. After reading rave reviews about this spot, I dragged my family to this Mexican seafood haunt for a goodbye meal before I flew back to NYC. To my surprise, this was an excellent choice! Highlights: the elote is some of the best I've ever eaten. The price is steep for corn, but it's worth it - trust me. The Pacifico ceviche is also seasoned perfectly and super fresh. Would highly recommend ordering this as an app! Lowlight: the paella really didn't hit the spot for me. I know everyone raves about it here, but I've had paella all over Spain, and I've also tried versions in Mexico. This rendition is more of a seafood rice medley, but I wouldn't call it paella. The rice is too soggy. I do think this is a great value dish for those ordering something to share with a group, but with so many amazing menu items, I wouldn't recommend this for someone who's a true seafood aficionado. The market fish was a great shareable item, but you're definitely at the mercy of the restaurant in terms of the size. We paid $55 for the red snapper (they also had grouper available), and it was delicious, but I wouldn't recommend for folks who don't like head on/bones in the fish. We got there at about 12:30 on a Wednesday, not too many people in the restaurant. It was slow! We immediately ordered 3 dozen oysters and blood clams (which were amazing btw) the oysters came out almost last, and at completely different times (this was a doz for each person) The kid shucking shellfish needs an assistant or something because homeboy was slow! We basically ordered all shellfish (raw), seafood paella, and fries. Took about 2 hours to get that food. We asked for a Michelada (Mexican red beer, for those of you who don't know) and our waitress said, "We only stick to seafood".....our faces when she said that...... We had Jarocho on our list for quite some time, and when a girlfriend who lived south suggested have a date night with our hubbies this was the perfect location between the two of us. Our friends tried the margaritas to start and really enjoyed them. I had the Paloma, and it wasn't quite what I'd expected. Paloma's I had tried in the past had a grapefruit flavor, but this didn't. I could actually pinpoint what the flavor was. We started with the house ceviche as well as guacamole. My friend's husband also ordered the soft shell crab appetizer. The ceviche was very fresh and quite delicious. The guacamole was also very good. For dinner I had the seafood paella and my husband tried the stuffed trout. The paella was absolutely incredible. The rice was perfectly cooked and had the perfect crisp on the bottom. My husband really enjoyed his trout as well. Our friends had the fish tacos and the creamy chipotle jumbo shrimp and really enjoyed their meals. The service was very good, although I did make a reservation and they didn't have us on the list for some reason. It wasn't an issue, and actually I was a little surprised that it wasn't very busy in there because the food was absolutely delicious. Heard so much about this place since the one in KCK wasn't open. Been wanting to tried this place and we went one evening on a Friday Night. Services and food was not up to par like these other reviews. We had so much expectations from our friends and reviews but left there so disappointed. There were several parties and it was good we got seated right away but we were almost there for 3 hours. The grilled fish was the worst we had, it was sooo brunt, all you can taste was the bruntness on the fish, it wasn't really edible. The oysters were not as fresh, and we can see that the cook staff weren't really paying attention to cooking the food. Saw our other friends at a different party and they been waiting for a long time to order and eat as well. I come here once a week with a tab over $150 for 2 people every visit. I also eat the mussels every time. This visit the mussels were mushy, barely coming out of the shells. First time here. I have to admit, I was nervous about coming here due to the heads-on-the-fish-and-shrimp thing. The paella is amazing & very flavorful. The cucaracha shrimp is unique & seems really fresh especially when you get them with shell on. Came in for lunch today and the service was as amazing as the food. We didn't get our waiters name but he was the only one working the Saturday day shift today. He was friendly, attentive and made a fantastic margarita. We got 3 different Saturday small plates on the brunch special to split and all 3 were very good. There was just one other person sitting outside, probably because it was so hot. They had put up a tarp to block out some of the sun. For happy hour they had $2.99 margaritas, which was a great deal. I don't think they offered any other happy hour specials. For dinner we ordered the ceviche tostadas, lobster, and a whole fried fish. The fish selection is different every day, and I got a 1 lb yellowtail for $16. The fish came with corn tortillas, rice, and a colorful slaw. I made 3 tacos with the fish, which were really good.
