Bought a baguette that everyone was getting and ended up making a sardine pate at home to pair with it. I want to come back for the bahn mi. There's no sitting room, so you just order and go. Long over due Review. I normally get my Vietnamese fruit aka cookie cake from Vans bakery. Which is what Vans bakery is known for tiL my cousin told me about this bakery. Vans bakery can be a slight more in pricing I noticed. Possibly since i think of their known bakery staple name. When we 1st tried it at my uncles Bday. Loved it and loved how it's so full with fruits, mango, peach, pineapple, kiwi and blackberries. The thick custard like in the cake filling is not overly sweet also the whipped cream they use. It's the perfect blend of sweetness. So a week later I ordered a Half sheet cake for $ 50 for his Bday. He loves these fruit cake too. I'm updating my review since its been so long. Vietnamese fruit cakes from Long Phung are always a hit for any Vietnamese family event or celebration. My BF and I came in a day before to place an order for his mom for Mother's Day. They give you an order slip that you would need when you come back to pick up your cake. I am also glad to see that they finally accept card now. The day before Mother's Day was crazy busy and so was actual day. We got their smallest size which is quite large. For $35 you get a cake that feeds about 10 people. Their fruit cake features a delicious sweet layer of thick cut fruits including kiwis, pineapples, peaches and strawberry. There is another layer of heavenly creamy house made whipped cream, a vanilla cake layer, and my favorite, the crispy crust in between. They do not skim on anything and it is the perfect amount of sweetness. You cannot knock it until you try it. Everyone loves it, even the healthiest eaters cannot deny. The outside looks like a flower shop and you wouldn't spot it unless you see the bright yellow banner on top or the iron gated window peeking out haha. Inside is like a fourth bakery and 3/4 flower shop with a display case solely for these fruit cakes. There's some other small things like mini sesame balls and cake. Viet ofc. THEY TAKE CARD tho the card reader is also under flowers lolol. Its like those modern white tablet ones too. The old asian man is very efficient and nice, he cracks troll like jokes hehe. This cake was recommended to me as the best OC asian cake and you def get more value than 85 degree or 99 ranch cakes cuz look at the size. His sponge is very fine and light, very different than like normal sponge cakes ( the bubbles are micro, it's like a foam car sponge). The next layer hoists a kind of crunchy crepe layer of browned goodness and then whip cream and lots of fruits. Aesthetic wise, its not very neatly piped but it doesn't matter. The cake is super good value, and asian families will love it with its sharable size, lots of fruit and not too sweet taste. I love the kiwis, I was surprised that all this fruit was still available being winter lol. We walked in during noon and was able to get a cake! I usually go to another Vietnamese bakery for my durian cakes but decided to try Long Phung's after seeing the rave reviews. I don't live anywhere near here. Took me about 45 minutes. Long Phung's, is located right next to a Vietnamese grocery store. I didn't realize it was the bakery when I walked up to it, because there were a ton of plants, particularly orchids out front and inside. It's a tiny suite. BTW, if you need to use a bathroom, you have to go to the grocery store next door. Within half a minute, a sweet older lady approached to ask if I needed anything. She was very attentive and friendly. I ordered their smallest durian cake which was 6 inches. Sounds really tiny, but it's tall so you get more for one slice which was $60. They decorated it with Happy Birthday for me with blue flowers. I also ordered 9 pieces of buchi which was 3 for $1.00. While I waited for the cake decoration to be done, I had a coupe buchi on the spot. It has that wonderful sesame flavor and crunch we all know and love. The cake was decorated beautifully and the Happy Birthday on it was perfectly done. I was skeptical of the high ratings but I was proven wrong. The cake has a delicious whip cream frosting and the cake is light and airy. The durian was very generous. I mean abundant. I usually have to pay extra to have the amount of durian that they have in this cake. It was easily THE BEST durian cake I have ever had. I originally came looking for a specific plant and found that they sold some desserts and delicious cakes! Layered with a soft, chiffon base, whipped cream and a layer of crispy pastry topped off with more whipped cream and fresh fruit! So easy to eat and not too sweet at all. The owner, from what I am assuming, was super nice and welcoming and definitely made me leave with a smile! :) She iced the cake beautifully! The cake itself is AMAZING. The sponge cake is soft and tasty while the crispy flakey layer stays crispy as long as you eat it the same day you buy it. The fruits on top is plenty with a good variety that changes depending on the season. The price for a cake is very reasonable. My only complaint is the smallest size is still 1/4 sheet which feeds about 10 people. They don't make them any smaller, so you're stuck having to get their 1/4 sheet. Normally, this would be okay, but the crispy layer isn't crispy the next day so if you have a lot of leftovers it won't be as good as it was the first day. I was finally seeing my family for the first time in 2 months, so I decided to grab a 1/4 sheet fruit tart cake from Long Phung on the way home. It was kind of out of my way since I was coming from South County OC but getting a lightly sweetened Asian cake was important to me. I wanted to try it because it had all the elements of a cake my parents would get for us when we were little. It was covered in fresh fruit, fluffy, and has a pastry layer in between the fruit topping and sponge cake. The best part was that I didn't need to order ahead. I popped in and asked for one. They had ones ready made in the display case. She even asked if I wanted anything piped on top. I just said "Happy Birthday" and she did it right then and there. They take credit cards but I'm sure they prefer cash. A 1/4 sheet cake will feed 10-12 people easily and costs $30. They have a durian version that is more expensive but I imagine you need to order those in advance. I buckled the cake into the backseat of my car and made sure the A/C was on but there was a tiny bit of melted icing and dislodged fruit when I got to my parents' house. You have to cut the cake with a large knife and not the plastic serving tool they give you due to the pastry layer. My parents liked it and even my picky little brother thought it was good. The crunchy pastry tart layer is a nice contrast to the textures of the sponge and fruit. I wish they made a smaller version but at least we had leftovers. The only thing is the leftovers can be soggy if not eaten within 2 days. read more

I really wanted a minimalistic style that could be dressed up with flowers and I was really happy the bakery didn't pressure me into making any changes. Great place for puff pastry fruit cakes! I legit walked right by it because I thought it was a floral shop. People were at standing in the shop when I walked by, buying flowers, so I thought I missed it. I had to double back and take another look. It's right in the same plaza as Dim Sum Co if you've been there. Parking is a nightmare after 10:30 am on weekends. Being a cooler with you to store the cake if you have a long drive. They sell cakes by various sizes with the smallest being 1/4 sheet cake which is supposed to feed about a dozen people. That's about right because we had 12 people and everyone got a generous slice. Cut it with a sharp, large knife and you won't have any issues. Don't try to saw it, just push down and commit! Layer of cake on the bottom, whipped cream, some custard stuff, flaky puff pastry, more cream and tons of fruit. There was strawberry, peach, mango, pineapple, kiwi, I can't even remember. There was so much fruit, it was falling off the cake. Everyone who had it asked where we got it from. $45 for a cake this size with this much fruit is a deal! The lady who helped me was so nice and wrote happy birthday on it at no extra charge. She gives you a servicing plastic knife with it, boxes it up for you, and they take credit card. She even gave my son a small cupcake because he said he was hungry. That was really sweet of her. The shop sells tons of flowers too so if you love cake and flowers, this is a must-visit! read more

This is probably my favorite Vietnamese cake shop in all of OC. My extended family has a tradition of buying fruit cakes for all of our family parties and it's stuck for the past 25 years. Now, this is our family's go to cake shop. Not sure when this bakery opened, but it's definitely a hole in the wall gem! When you enter, it's hard to tell if it's a cake shop or a flower shop, but that's what's fun about this place. Yeah, it can be daunting and may not look like a classy shop, but their cakes are to die for. It's a French style crepe fruit tart cake that has both sponge cake AND the crepe, which makes it better than other places bc it's usually one or the other. They also have other flavors like durian, mocha, strawberry, coconut for pre-order but they usually always have the fruit cake in stock. My husband and I actually got our wedding cake here for 600+ people and everyone LOVED the cake. It turned out beautiful. I put it in the fridge and waited till after dinner. After we took it out, we took some cute pictures and started cutting the cake. Nothing wrong with the look of the cake. In fact, it looks nice. However, we started to notice the cake smells and tastes off. Then we instantly all stop eating. We knew it was bad so we put the other half of untouched cake back in the fridge just so that we can use this as a proof that we bought the cake and it was bad. This morning I called them, the lady was like "not possible, all cake same, bring it in". I thought "okay, I have it if you wanna see it". I drove 15 minutes, again, from Tustin to here thinking I'd get a refund or any other sort of replacement, but guess what, the lady walked out and gave out terrible customer service I've ever experienced..lady straight up told me they sell 200 cakes a day, and there's no way the cake could be bad. She didn't even take a look at my leftover cake, and started talking to other customers in store in Vietnamese. I was pissed but I kept it polite, I wasn't trying to ruin their business image in front of other customers, but maybe I should have since they don't even give a shit about me. What am I being nice for??? Should've started talking shit in front of everyone. Basically, I drove here for nothing. If you are just gonna be stubborn and have that attitude, why even tell me to come? I'm not the only person complaining, we have 8 people last night, and we all agreed that it was bad. Instead of trying to resolve this issue, the lady chose to ignore me and treated me like I was tripping. I know for sure I'm not coming back, and I will make sure people around me will never visit this place. If you're in the Little Saigon area, you know that every Asian bakery here does their version of the fresh fruit cake/cake pie. Usually it consists of a hard but flaky flat crust, custard in the middle and topped with a garden of sliced fresh fruit, a clear sweet glaze and strategically placed cream on top. But not at Long Phung. Fruit Tart Cake - If you just look at the cake, it looks like a typical fruit cake with with sponge sheet cake inside. Well it's not. You get the best of all worlds. The bottom layer is sponge cake, then cream, then to the unsuspecting first timer, there's a crunchy puff pastry layer in the middle that impedes your knife from easily cutting through. On top of that is cream and then all the fresh fruit. The fruits may change a little with the season, but for the most parts it's fresh strawberries, grapes, kiwis, mangoes and canned peach quarter slices. It's a fruit sheet cake with a crunchy middle. It's not heavy and as your Asian mom will say, "I like it because it's not too sweet." The smallest fruit tart cake is a 1/4 cut for $30. The small cake is huge! It can easily feed 15 people. The 1/2 cut is $50 and feeds double. They also make regular sheet cakes, ice cream cakes and a durian cake. I've only tried the fruit tart cake and I'm in love. It has everything a typical Asian family wants in a cake, a lot of cake for the money, not heavy, not too sweet and it has fruit (because of course that makes the cake a health food). Now finding Long Phung Bakery is a minor adventure. There's an Asian Market in the center, a filtered water store and then this store with all these plants in front and inside. The store with all the plants inside is what doubles as a bakery. Usually they have small cakes on the ready, but if you want to be safe, go in a day before and pre-order your cake. I was excited to find that this place has great reviews on their fruit tart cake. It was getting to be dinner time and they close at 8pm do I had called and asked if they had any left. The gentleman I talked with on the phone asked what size I wanted for the cake and I asked if they have smaller sizes. He said they can make it into a round cake so I head over that way in LA traffic. You to the place and was disappointed that they only have sheet cake sizes available in the fruit tart cake and only the fruit cream cake is available in round. I said I'm leaving for MN tomorrow so can't have such a big cake. Asked if they sell by slices and they don't so I bought bite sizes sesame balls and freshly made sponge cake muffins.
