Except for…read moreoccasional excess eyebrow hair removal, I haven't really had to pay for anything to be done to my head since 1999 when I started cutting it myself. There was one time though, when we were on staycation in Oak Lawn, when I was in dire need of a trim, and didn't want to go home to get my clippers(50 miles away). I found this barber on 103rd and Central, not far from where we were staying and decided to give it a shot. I walked in and talked to the only guy working in the place and he offers me a "full service haircut", which included a cut, straight razor for the face, eyebrows and nose hair. Nose hair?!? Yes. Pretty much the full monty. Well, except that there was no stripping involved. Except for the stripping of some hair, that is. Started with the hair on my head, which was a standard all over 0 cut, no guard. Steaming towel for my face, which he covered completely except for my nose holes, so I can breathe(or so I thought). While my face is covered, I hear him preparing something on the barber's shelf in front of me, and then, something warm with a pleasant aroma goes into my nose. I can't imagine what it was. He peels the lower half of the towel up, keeping my eyes covered, and proceeds to shave my beard and mustache stubble. When he finishes, I feel a quick sting of pain as he ripped whatever was in my nose out. I pull the towel off of my face to see what it was, and wouldn't you know it, HE WAXED THE INSIDE OF MY NOSE. I was appalled, and yet, pleased at the sight of my new breathing holes. I can honestly say that that was the first time I'd had that done to me, and I wasn't mad about it. I just wish he warned me! I could literally hear the hairs coming out. But it was all good, and I'd gladly do it again! They did a good job on everything that was included in the service. In case the need arises, I won't hesitate to come back and have it done again. But it'll probably be a a last resort kind of thing.

Let me tell you something. I'm from Berwyn, where we keep it real. What I mean by that, is that I…read moream in my thirties without ever having gone to a barber. Yep, I've been coddled in the horribly mediocre chain salons for most of my life. What that also means, is that I've never been introduced to the business end of a straight razor. My only experience with barbers stems from childhood memories of me peddling by on my bicycle while an jaded barber stares at me with disdain. That crazy kid, with the funny hair and goofy bike! Damn kids! -shaking fist- So it was to the salon I would go, thrown in with the old ladies sitting under those space bubbles and soccer moms hurriedly pushing their children through haircuts. That is probably part of the reason I've cut my own hair for the past three years. Admittedly, I had to pysch myself up for this one. After growing my beard to an arguably pre-cro-magnon state, and not having shaved in days, I mustered up the courage and strolled into this establishment. The owner was courteous and welcoming, and went to work on me quickly. He talked with me before hand, and we discussed what I wanted and how he would go about it. There were no surprises here, as he would tell me whenever he was going to do something new. I got a full haircut, beard trim, beard line-up, and straight razor shave. He really took his time and paid special attention to detail. It looks awesome. I can now walk down the street in public without people yelling 'Sasquatch!' while ducking behind the nearest tree. I am totally sold on not only the use of a barber, but more specifically this establishment. I will return! Mark my words, I shall return!

The technicians we had our services with were Staci, Kelli and I believe one other woman where we booked Bridal hair and makeup. On my first visit with Staci unfortunately the makeup turned out so poorly it was recommended I go with someone else to complete my look. I really appreciated her honesty and understanding that she was unable to deliver on what I wanted and so I decided to go forward with booking our Bridal parties hair and makeup here. Communication: after we created our appointments and I had requested airbrush makeup for my look I was very surprised when Kelly confirmed my appointment and did not do airbrush but she promised me it would turn out beautiful so begrudgingly I went ahead. Hair- unfortunately even though I had shared we were going to be dancing quite a bit and I have thick hair that does very well with a good amount of hairspray and hair pins, each of our hair fell within just a couple hours. It was quite sad as of course we had a photographer to capture this day. We were constantly fussing trying to push the pins back in and trying to salvage the updos. Makeup- I was positive that the pictures were going to turn out flawless because the look when I left the salon did look very nice and overall was what I requested with a few adjustments and recommendations on my end. However once I received all of the pictures back I noticed how glaringly awful the raccoon concealer looked under my eyes. It is incredibly obvious that my skin is almost three shades a different when picked up by the photos. I am so sad about this our only recourse is to pay to photoshop all the photos I am in. Overall this place is really cute and I really wanted to like it I really enjoyed working with Kelly but unfortunately the quality of the work that came out of everyone's experience was all of our hair was ruined within less than half the night and unfortunately all the professional pictures we took were ruined by how my makeup showed up on camera. This is so disappointing I don't even know what to say.

My friend told me about this place, saying it was $20 for a shampoo, cut, and blowdry but that they only took cash. So I came with $24 bucks in hand, knowing it should be enough for the whole shebang and tip. Upon walking in, I saw a sign on the side wall that said $20 for shampoo and cut. What? That kind of sucks. Especially considering it was a cold winter day so in order to be able to pay for this, I'd have to skip the blowdry, which according to the sign, was $28. Sigh. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday afternoon. The girl who cut my hair was nice and I think she did a good job. I'd be a little hesitant to go here if I want a special cut or style, but for a quick trim, it was good. Standing at the counter with my hair dripping wet, she tells me my total was $15. What?! So I guess my friend was right. However, I didn't want to ask them to dry my hair and risk having it be more and not having enough, so i just paid the $15+tip and left. They should really update their signs. And maybe take credit/debit because I'm sure they would get more business that way, and at least I could have left with dry hair.
