I cannot say enough good things about High Country Dental! Dr. King is amazing, thorough, professional, and extremely nice! I talked to her about getting two dental Implants. After looking at my panoramic x-rays (Which were at no cost to me or my insurance) She decided that it would be better to refer me to a surgeon, due to my narrow gums. I respect her decision. It proves to me that she cares about me as a patient and wanting my procedure done perfectly. We also came up with a game plan together to replace two crowns that have worn out over time .My dental hygienist, Danette(sp?) was very thorough and gentle at cleaning my teeth. I set up an appointment with High Country Dental for my fiancée, the deal was "$99 New Patient Special" And I understand that there's probably tax to be added onto that. Now, he went in mainly to get his teeth cleaned and when they found out that he hadn't been to the dentist in a long time and that he had a dead wisdom tooth in need of removal, they decided to not only NOT clean his teeth, but give him a laundry list of things they wanted him to come in for which totaled, in 10ish visits, out to about $16,050 or so all the while knowing we don't have insurance. They then scheduled another appointment next day after the original appointment for I don't even remember which of those things on that list they said he needed to come in for. The only reason they're getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because as far as I was told they did do the X-rays and "exam" which would be looking at the X-rays, asking questions, and telling him what they see and their thoughts. That's about it though. Also when I was talking to the front desk lady about payment for what they did do, she tried to charge about $105, so full price for not even doing the cleaning part, and when I told her I'm not paying full price for them not doing all the work promised by their website, she then told me I could pay $75 instead and I was going to but she made it seem like they'd already charged the $105 to my account so I told her that I couldn't pay both at the same time, only one or the other, but I think she misunderstood what I was trying to say because I probably didn't word it in a way that she could understand so she told me that I didn't need to pay but I couldn't go back, and my thought was that I didn't want to go back if they were just gonna try to take me for all I'm worth again. I live paycheck to paycheck like most do these days and it's hard to fit in important things like health related appointments with what little extra we can spare for them and I was expecting him to go in, get his cleaning and then we pay around $99 and go on our way, but these people decided that they wouldn't make it that easy. I've added pictures for what proof I can give. This was back on June 12th 2025, I've been meaning to review but time got away from me so I'm posting it now that I have a chance while I'm thinking about it. It was a frustrating situation. I know that his teeth need more work but all I asked for was a cleaning. The least they could have done was clean his teeth to the best of their ability and I'd have been fine with that, paid the bill and taken their list into consideration. Plain and simple. I hope anyone who chooses to come here doesn't get the same treatment and has a better experience than I. read more

My dentist retired and then the pandemic hit and next thing I knew it had been way too long since I had been to the dentist. Apparently, going through menopause makes your teeth weaker and its much easier to get cavities, so my life long run of no cavities ended. I made an appointment with High Contry Dental and found out all the bad news and we started the work. I have fibromyalgia so it was incredibly painful for my jaw to be held open that long so we discussed sedation. It was divided into two visits that we were spreading into two years since my husband and I only have preventative and it was a 4k bill. My husband paid the first half when I had the first half done (the same day of the procedure). They asked about insurance. my husband asked WHY?? Since we just paid in full for the services that were received (there is nothing to bill insurance...if we had it) We only have preventative through our health insurance. The girl was like oh yeah okay. A few months later we received a bill for a little over $300 stating it was an outstanding balance. When questioned she said they ended up doing some additional work they had not planned. *no one ever told me or my husband about this prior to doing the work or after the procedure. The only mention of it was when we called inquiring about this outstanding balance. At the time my husband was furloughed and I was putting off as many bills as I could so I told them I couldn't pay until after the furlough was over. I had a scheduled cleaning in January so we paid it then... we also scheduled my second half of work which now required a $500 deposit for anesthesiologist (whom I never saw... they apparently have one on staff but if I have to pay a non refundable deposit to make sure there is one... I want to see one.) We paid our deposit a few weeks before the procedure and the week before they text me telling me I need to pay the $500 deposit so I had to remind them that it was paid, when, and how. The morning of my procedure, they text me to inform me I have an outstanding balance from LAST YEAR (another $300) and they can apply my $500 deposit to it and we can cover that and the additional money I owe for (this) procedure when we arrive. I responded with "there is another REMAINING balance from the last procedure since the LAST REMAINING balance that we paid in January?" She said yes, there is and she needs a copy of our new insurance card because insurance has denied all our claims. ***honestly... I couldn't make this up if I tried!*** WE arrive at my appointment and my husband tells her he wants to discuss all this because he doesn't understand what they are 'trying' to do. The girl said let's pay for this procedure FIRST and then we can. I said..no because depending on this conversation I might not stay. This girl said... it was against the law for me to leave without having my procedure because I took the Valium (they prescribed me) last night before I went to bed. She should be very thankful that my husband was there because I was working on no sleep mixed with my menopausal lack of patience . The other sedation medicine I brought in for the dentist to administer... oh and the dentist was the one that handed them to me and a medical student put the o2 mask on me and the Nitrous oxide. It is really too bad because when I first started going there I really liked them. There was no judgement about my not going to the dentist and how I tend to put myself last and take care of everyone else first. She understood fibromyalgia...no eye rolling. Front desk or whoever does the books needs training. I cant afford to be taken advantage of. read more

Horrible Experience - Botched Procedure and Zero Accountability My experience at High Country Dental in Rio Rancho has been nothing short of a nightmare. I went in for what should've been a routine crown and filling. The procedure was a disaster from the start--painful, unprofessional, and completely mishandled. My mouth was injured during the process, and they didn't even complete the filling I was charged for. The doctor admitted they caused the damage but brushed it off as "just a bump from dental trauma" and never gave me a formal diagnosis or treatment plan. I later learned the issue is a ranula--a chronic condition that now requires surgery. Instead of taking responsibility, the dentist said, "everything in the mouth heals, just give it time," and when things clearly got worse, his response was basically, "I don't know what to do" and sent me off to an oral surgeon. After the fact, I started looking into what went wrong and was shocked to find out that students from a dental school operating in the same building had worked on me. At no point was I told that a student or trainee would be involved in my care. That is completely unethical and dangerous. Because of their mistakes, I've developed a ranula under my tongue--a painful, chronic condition that makes it difficult to speak, eat, or function normally. I asked for help and even just a basic sick note for work, but they've refused everything and pushed me off to an oral surgeon, which now adds even more costs out of pocket--all for damage they caused. This place is negligent and dishonest. If you care at all about your health, do not go here. You deserve to know who is treating you, and you deserve competent care. I came here for my first dental appointment in a few years due to high anxiety from my last dentist. It left me so afraid to come in, that I had a panic attack during my visit to my prior dentist. I had heard of here before from a friend and decided to check it out. I am SO glad I did and relieved. Everyone was very friendly when I arrived, and I was first given a tour and then taken back to my chair. They go over questions with you addressing your concerns, fears, anxieties, and past experiences before they even get to work. I appreciated that process. Before we got started, I was offered some items from their comfort menu and got a neck pillow. It made it so much easier on my neck to get my teeth cleaned. My hygienist was gentle and professional. I've never had my gums checked in such detail or gotten such great x-rays. The dentist was also great. I will be recommending them to my family and anybody in need of a dentist! read more

I had to find a new dentist twice yearly cleaning, as my previous dentist dropped my insurance carrier. I contacted several practices, however, their earliest appointments were near the end of the year. HCD was one of the only providers who accepted my dental insurance and had a true online booking system, no a "fill in your information and will get back to you" form. I was able to schedule an appointment two weeks out, with no fuss. The office staff was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. I've been a patient at High Country Dental for several years, and I can honestly say Dr. Young-Trujillo is the best dentist I've ever had. He is gentle, professional, empathetic, and very knowledgeable. I've had Donnette as my hygenist recently, but I've also been very happy with the gentle approach of all of the hygenists in this office. The office has state-of-the-art equipment which really helps streamline the process. Appointment reminders and confirmations are completed easily via texts. Updating insurance information is handled by sending a link to your cell phone. I don't need to be bothered with phone call reminders or filling out the forms in the office lobby. I walk in, let them know I've arrived, and move quickly into a chair. I highly recommend High Country Dental. read more

I have to assume there are employees working at this office who are unvaccinated based on their response to my questions about vaccination over the phone. Be aware that anyone that tells you that vaccination status cannot be divulged because of HIPAA is providing you misinformation (aka lying to you). That being said, of course a dentist or health provider can choose to not provide this information, but also, we as potential clients have a right to ask and not give these people business if they refuse to be above-board. "it is not a violation of the oft-cited HIPAA federal privacy law to ask your doctor or dentist or other health-care workers, as well as people who provide close-contact services, including hair stylists, aestheticians, massage therapists and physical trainers, whether they are vaccinated." Source - Washington Post and several legal sources. I was told by the employee on the phone that they were specifically covered by HIPAA because they were privately owned and not a corporation - which firstly is not correct and secondly is nonsensical as a corporation is a privately held business. If you are high risk like I am with lung disease I would not trust going to this dentist as they refuse to state whether people in the office have been vaccinated. Find a dentist that takes COVID seriously and not as an afterthought. read more

The dental assistants and Dentists were all very nice and professional, however there is a "care coordinator " there who is EXTREMELY rude and unwelcoming. She rolls her eyes and sighs at you when you ask questions and gets frustrated when you're trying to find the best and most affordable option for yourself. Made me actually stop going here because I felt so uncomfortable. The facility is nice and up to date and they offer a lot of options for different treatments which is nice. read more

It's a nice cozy place to go. Most of the employees are kind. Came here for the cosmetic braces. I don't recommend it. After a year my teeth went back to the previous positions even wearing the retainers. The lady that did my braces told me that she also had done the cosmetic and hers went back. I would've like to hear that before they started for experiences. That would've been helpful. You pay just over $2,000 for that. So I don't recommend the cosmetic braces. I also think that since they are new, seems like they don't have much experience. This is my opinion. Otherwise they are nice people. read more

She immediately gave me a tour of the place introduced me to her co workers and lay of the land. She explained, Khalil would be in shortly to explain what we were going to do. I HATE dentistry work I get very anxious with every procedure. I'm 50 years old and I have been to different facilities in my life. Khalil was very professional explained everything to me step by step I was very surprised how comfortable I felt and I owe it to this young man! I have been going to High Country Dental for about 2 years for cleanings but today had my first filling. They are always very prompt. Everyone is friendly and it creates a calm and relaxing environment. I am a giant baby when having dental procedures. I have had some terrible dental experiences and I have always been difficult to numb. This is the first dental filling I didn't cry during. The dentist was gentle and caring. The numbing was nearly painless (yes I really mean it, they used lots of topical so I did even feel the needle go in and only felt 1 second of pain and if was done). Dr. Young- Trujillo is wonderful, skilled and a leader in his profession. I will likely never go to another dentist. I highly recommend High Country Dental. read more

No doubt the image High Country Dental projects is 5 star. The office is beautiful, they offer a "comfort menu," and the staff is very professionally dressed. However, I find their scheduling practices to be totally unacceptable. I have been to the office 4 times and each time I "share" the dentist with two or three other patients (at the same time.) The dental assistant does everything possible, leaving long gaps of time between the dentist and the assistant coming and going. The dentist is very nice and friendly, however, you feel she is stretched thin running from one patient to the next and cannot give you focus, attention, and concentration. Recently, I waited weeks to get in for a cleaning and check up. I arrived early and waited several minutes past my appointment time. Once taken back, I waited an additional hour and 10 minutes and was told the doctor would be in "in a few minutes." If you don't mind a limited amount of appointment times to choose from, if you don't mind waiting for long periods of time to get in, if you don't mind "sharing" your dentist with other patients at the same time, if you don't mind the dental assistant doing the majority of the work, then you will probably be very satisfied. read more

My wife had high praise for this dentist until this recent experience. She had some dental work that required surgery. We get to the Walgreens for her prescription and they said the dental office has not called it in yet. We called the dental office to let them know that the Walgreens said there is no prescription. The office staff got a little snippy and said that they will have it called in. Well we waited some time and Walgreens still didn't receive the prescriptions. By now the dental office is closed. We leave a message for the office and with their answering service. No calls back. The message on their phone stated that they have hours on Saturday and open at 9am. So we figured that we can call on Saturday and pull up to the office to make sure the perscriptions are called in. Mind you the pain my wife had to go through the night and Tylenol was not able to subside it. Well, messages left again Saturday. Multiple calls with the answering service and no one there on Saturday. The answering service said that they were closed today and are open every other Saturday. It wasn't until we threatened that we would have no other option to go to an urgent care and send them the bill that we received a response from the office. But no, not a call, a text! A text that they apologized for the "inconvenience" the prescription is in there system and don't know why Walgreens never got it. No accountability taken and no care of concern for their patient. I won't tell what people should out shouldn't do but if this is the care shown to their patients, I will not become a patient and my wife will be reconsidering as well. read more

COVID 19 Update. Well a lot of the hospitality had to be scrapped for the sake of safety. On the other hand, you can't mask their professionalism, empathy, or friendliness. And, if you think about it, the heart of hospitality is compassion, not the do-dads. They take your temperature before you enter. Once good, you do not have to touch anything. You are escorted in to your exam room while they open all the doors. In the room is a HEPA air filter running. HEPA will filter out the airborne virus. Once the exam begins, of course, you remove your mask. Cleaning is the old fashioned way: scraping. Simple and effective. Using a water jet cleaner would broadcast a virus throughout the room. X-Rays were quick and digital. In addition, my hygienist wiped down everything when she finished. I had filled out the information forms online, so there was no using a pen/paper. The dentist did an inspection as is normal. I appreciated their precautions and the fact that they are putting themselves at risk to ensure my health. Exposure time was minimal to do their usual excellent work. THANK YOU!!! read more
