This place is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the state. The tamales are seriously amazing, the masa is homemade, flavorful, and moist; everyone in our party loved it! I have also tried the tacos, which were great as well. We went on a Tuesday and it wasn't super busy, so we got our food in just a few minutes. The atmosphere was nice, cool decor and music. Took my son, his wife, and my grandkids here. Looked pretty good. I am super picky about Mexican b/c I've lived in Texas 30+ years. I got the mojarra frita, the kids got quesadillas or nachos, DiL had nachos and asked for steak instead of ground beef, which they did! Can't remember what my son had. My mojarra frita was fine, except that it came with french fries that were obviously from a freezer bag. I mean they were fried nicely but I'd rather have had their mexican rice which was so good the grandkids fought over it. The nachos were ok but not in the Texas style. i guess I won't ever find those outside. All in all a nice unpretentious place. Eager to make alterations if you want them, friendly, and they had a fine chile relleno. read more

Shared a Pino fajita with my wife. It was filled with delicious beef, chicken, shrimp, and pineapple. It also had a modest amount of peppers and onions. She likes the pineapple, which had huge chunks, and I like the shrimp. The thing that set it apart was that it was topped with a huge amount of cheese, which made a wonderful sauce. The cost was $28 which isn't bad between two people. We were not able to eat it all. They have really spruce the place up and it's got a wonderful decor. I really wanted to make this a five star review but want to make it clear that it's not quite that level. I would still recommend it and plan on going back when I am in the area. Los 2 Portillos is a nice little hidden gem that backs up its years of operation with a solid and authentic Mexican feel. Here are my thoughts. Service-Very friendly for the small area. Drinks were always filled and our needs were meet the entire time. It's got a very family run type feel and I love it. Food-We purchased the molcajete to share. Its full of carnitas, Asada, chicken and nopales. Along with that it came with tortillas, rice and beans. It was perfect and served in a huge dish. We loved the taste and felt that everything was cooked well. The Asada and carnitas were a little heavy on the grisly fat side, but nothing crazy. It was more then enough for the two of us. Location-Probably the only reason for knocking it down a star. The place definitely had some years on it. Some tables were stabilized by phone books and the place overall could have used a new layer of paint or a solid cleaning. It was not horrible, just showing signs of age. I hope you can make it out and enjoy the amazing food this place has to offer. read more

Hello foodies, I hope your summer of food has been good in light of the recession, jacked up prices and food availability! It's been a rough year for businesses with the rise in food prices, higher labor costs and worker availability thus many are cutting corners to survive which is what I feel about this Mexican joint. Now this place has a 4.5 rating but this was not our experience. I like the facility, quaint, but not modern. The waiter was great and service good. As a big taco lover it was a must to order the Carne, Chicken and Pork. The Tacos could not stand alone and needed condiment boosters to finish the consumption. The pork was dry, parts crispy with minimal flavor, Chicken was cubed and overcooked, and the Carne was made up of tiny pieces and also overcooked and crispy. Now we ordered a guacamole appetizer which was creamy, but not to our liking, tasted like it came form a store bought container. Maybe the issue here was a 2:30 lunch or other food options add up to a 4 but not the tacos and not on this day. read more

I was very impressed with the food here! We had just finished a long hike down south and stopped in to Spanish Fork to get some Mexican food. This place was surprisingly busy, well run, and the people were very kind. They have a great menu with just about any type of mexican food you can imagine on it. Everything looked great. I got the fajitas, which came out on a big sizzling skillet, with a large place of rice, beans, and tortillas. My husband tried the carne asada which was delicious!! The rellano (not sure I'm spelling it right) was one of the best I've had. Only wish the chili had more flavor, but that's not their fault. The salsa and chips were great. I've had better shrimp tacos at del taco. No seasoning on the shrimp or fish. Under that mountain of plain raw cabbage you will find a mound of sour cream, plain ol unsalted sour cream. The menu description said the tacos would be topped with pico de gallo, they came with only a sprinkle of plain tomatoes. As for the salsas, I had to ask the waiter to bring me whatever salsas they had in the back! I HAD to ask. First off let me say this place was nothing like the reviews it had, it also didn't have the same menu that I saw online. The service was mid at best, there was only one server working and usually Mexican food comes out quick but it was just the opposite here. So when I think of Mexican, I think of food covered in tasty queso dip but this place didn't even have queso. I ordered the grilled chicken nachos which should have chips and grilled chicken smothered in queso but instead it was covered in melted mozzarella cheese. My dad got the Chile Relleno and he said all of the meat tasted like canned meat and that there was water in the bottom of his plate which the dough absorbed and made all of the food soggy. Last thing is the location, when you pull up to the restaurant it not only looks sketchy and run down but there's very limited parking and it's hard to get in and out of. Inside it doesn't look too bad but there's no background music and the bathrooms are very small. Overall one of the worst restaurants my family and I have ever ate at. read more

This place has the best Milanesa I've had in a long time! It was crispy and not oily like other places. It was delicious and the portion is big, it can feed two people easily. This is the kind of place I look for when I'm looking for a Mexican restaurant (small, semi quiet, with Mexican music playing in the background, and a great staff) the decor is spot on and inviting. The chips and salsa are good, but the salsa is very watery witch isn't my favorite but it does taste great. I just wish it was a bit thicker The burrito I order is great and looks great. The beans and rice are spot on as well. My only complaints are that it's parking lot is small and hard to get into and is likely to be difficult to get out of with my work truck. And of course the salsa being runny I will definitely be back great place read more

Most Mexican places around town taste just about the same and are pretty average. Food here is on the bottom end of average Mexican food and there was only one person working the entire restaurant.
