I can't believe I let so much time go by before coming back. I was craving tacos on Taco Tuesday and remembered how much I always enjoyed Los Agaves. I'm so glad I came back--it reminded me why this has been one of my favorite local restaurants for years. From the moment we walked in, Sammy took great care of us. We wanted to sit at the bar, and she made sure we got seats right away. Throughout our visit, she was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Service like that makes a great meal even better. The tacos were absolutely outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and every bit as good as I remembered. And the margaritas? Still some of the best around. The concept of wait to be seated, then order at a counter after you're seated, then they may bring you chips and salsa 7 mins after a person who sat down after you and got them right away...hard pass. Service... if you like no follow through and people who can't look at you while speaking to you, maybe it's for you. None of the soda fountain was working, they knew about it, and multiple people said they'd bring me the soda I paid for, and it never happened. Back to the counter to get a refund. You'd think if they knew sodas weren't streaming they'd either stop letting people purchase or refund proactively. They don't. Bizarre concept, will never be back. Went here 3 weeks ago with my friend to try this new place, and I couldn't believe the price for the food considering we had to order at the counter and the food was simply brought to our table. I ordered the steak fajitas, and the portion was very small, served on a huge bed of vegetables to make it look like more food. The food itself was pretty good, but there definitely wasn't enough meat on the plate. I also ordered a strawberry margarita, and the drink was very weak. The ambiance was very nice and looked like a fancy restaurant in an upscale neighborhood, but once you walk in and see the counter with the menu board above it, it changes the whole vibe. I was honestly turned off, but since we were already there and hungry, we decided to stay and order. We didn't even order appetizers -- just food and drinks -- and still ended up paying about $50 each. My friend didn't enjoy her food at all. I remember going to Los Agaves in Santa Barbara many moons ago and having my mind blown by the chorizo tacos and salsas. Fast forward to today and decide to try to convince my parents to try Los Agaves out. Mom & Dad live in Thousand Oaks and don't go out much. They have their spots and can be creatures of habit. The Mexican restaurant they like is not good in my opinion and when they tried Red O it was a bad experience. I told them I was buying so we all squeezed into the car and traveled to Agoura Hills. You order at the register and then they bring your food and booze out. Guacamole and salsas are phenomenal. I didn't see chorizo tacos, so opted for a chimichanga which was perfect. Everyone was mega pleased with their meals and loved sitting outside where it is a little more quiet. We were given menus and seated and although there were staff on the floor, we were instructed to order at the counter. So stand up pat and tip before you get service. Everything was brought to the table, chips with 3 different sauces, waters... just like a regular restaurant. Otherwise it is a nice Mexican restaurant, friendly staff, nice decor, comfortable seating. I don't like tipping standing up, before I know what the service will be. We didn't realize you had to order at the register inside before hand because they sat us outside and handed us menus. Interesting, none the less we ordered and I got the chicken taquitos. They were sorta of like a chicken tinga, decent portion size and they were okay. No rice or beans included, to have to order separately. They also have a self serve soda station as well. For it looking like a somewhat nice restaurant , the self serving factor is just strange. I ordered from DoorDash and these enchiladas arrived beautifully intact, you can tell the care that the restaurant puts into presentation to match flavor. I always get enchiladas suizas when I see them on a menu but I saw that the guadalajara enchiladas came with shredded chicken and salsa verde and went for it, absolutely no regrets. Stopped by Los Agaves for dinner. We were able to get a nice high top table. Table #1. The hostess was so nice and calm considering how busy they were and the amount of people waiting outside. We both ordered the enchilada suizas. I had an iced tea and the wife just drank water. The margaritas look good but we gave up alcohol going on two months now. Don't get me wrong the food itself was good but the service was so badddd. this is super sad due to the fact that you barely interact with the servers since it is walk up to order and get your own drinks. The girl in the front was rude and they put us at a super small table when there was plenty of other tables around. Hit the spot! When I arrived (and plenty of parking) I was told it was a 20.min wait. However, after maybe 10.mins I was able to grab 2 seats at the bar. I loved being able to peak into the kitchen and watch the tortillas get made! I was offered chips and 3 different dips which were yummy. The chips and salsa were delicious. The green salsa was a bit too spicy for my tastes but the other two were pretty good. I ordered the Enchiladas Guadalajara. They were decent. This was my first experience at Los Agaves. It came highly recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. It was a little odd to get your table first, then order your food up front with your table number. However odd their setup may seem though, it works. We ordered a wet burrito, with chile verde and enchiladas Guadalajara with green sauce. They brought it out to our table and everything tasted fresh, yet was delivered pretty quickly. The plating was nice for those that allow their camera to eat first. The chips and salsa they bring out when you get there was a nice surprise as well. Service was friendly, and despite not being table service they still check in on you to make sure everything was good. We would definitely eat here again. I always come here when I'm home! We mostly come for the unreal salsas and phenomenal MUST ORDER queso fundido!!! To be honest don't bother with the tortillas it comes with, order it immediately and eat it with salsa and chips!! It's so good I dream of it. Margs are also great, haven't had a bad one yet! We also got a chimichanga and a wet burrito. Both good but not the highlight or reason why we come! Doesn't matter which flavor you order, they are all good! Also ordered the popular wet burrito and it didn't disappoint. Very flavorful and the burrito kept its shape by the end of the meal. Popped in here for a quick bite and it hit the spot. Chips and salsa arrive right away so you can look over the menu, make decisions, and then order at the counter. Some people may not love the counter ordering setup, but it moves quickly and I actually liked it just fine. My margarita was tasty, not too sweet, and came out fast. I ordered a combo with a hard chicken taco and a chile relleno with rice and beans. The taco was delicious. I added extra salsa because I love salsa. The beans come in an edible cup, which is both delicious and slightly dangerous because it will fill you up fast. In an effort to pace myself, I did the unthinkable and pulled the batter off the chile relleno and just ate the pepper with the melted cheese inside, which was fresh and wonderful. My fellow diners were very happy with their beef enchiladas and chimichanga. One thing I really liked is that when you are finished you can simply get up and leave. No waiting around for a check. Also worth noting: everyone working there was incredibly nice and almost suspiciously cheerful. read more

Have been coming to this location periodically since 2022. I love the easy parking and outdoor seating (if it's on the side, not the seating facing the parking lot). They have heat lamps and the side patio is a little tucked away so it's nice and cozy. You walk in, get a table with a number, the staff bring you chips and salsa, you order at the counter, and then you eat the chips and salsa while you wait for your food. Every time I come, the staff are top notch. They are always working hard and hustling and bring you what you ask quickly. The drinks and food usually come out quickly. The chips are thin and crispy and the salsas are fresh! Some are spicier than others. The staff will ask if you want another round of chips and salsa when they see you're running low sometimes. I've had the two item combo plate (usually the shredded chicken crispy taco and chicken enchilada), the mole enchiladas, steak and chicken fajitas, the mole poblano, and one time their pozole on a chilly evening. The food is consistently delicious. I would say you can't go wrong with anything on their menu, it just depends what you're in the mood for. I am first off the rare Angeleno having never grown up on Mexican food never really enjoying that particular cuisine. I always found it too spicy or just plain too hot neither are my first or second choice for a meal. Well I have in all my travels as well as eating locally truly found the exception to that mainstay rule to avoid Mexican food. That exception is the excellent fresh tasting Los Agaves restaurant in Westlake village. The owner and creator of this fresh, clean delicious food is Carlos Luna who started this business in 2008 in Santa Barbara. His ideas were authentic Mexican cuisine in a friendly family oriented atmosphere. Walking in to this restaurant I immediately got a happy, warm vibe. It was a Saturday night and they were very busy . We got lucky got a nice table off the side and a lovely lady brought us a platter of chips accompanied with guacamole and several sauces and only one was spicy hot. For me so far so good. The system is different you actually order your meal in the back of the restaurant .You stand before the station menu above you and give your order. The system slides smoothly into gear. Order placed and payed for and I tell him we are sitting at sign posted number 15. Place is now getting very busy, respect Saturday night. Noise level amped up but all is handled well. They have a large staff all busy doing what they are supposed to be doing. When I get back to our designated table there is a Modela Negra beer in a large thick goblet slice of lemon waiting for me and my lady has her coke. I just ordered the meal literally moments ago. The server must of been a ghost never saw him or her. As I am continuing to enjoy this friendly ambience a live waiter delivers our meal. My wife has the grilled chicken burrito mojado consisting of a wonderful blend of pinto beans,Monterey jack cheese served with rice, lettuce, guacamole , sour cream, and pico de gallo.. all wrapped within a huge I believe homemade flour tortilla. Every ingredient is so fresh and tasteful , and for me not too spicy or hot to attack my tongue or taste buds. For dinning on Mexican food all of this is a distinct new found pleasure . Staff still buzzing around and we are finished and politely signal for the waitress . She asks us everything okay and I say yes. Thank you we would like to take the rest home. She says I will be back with boxes. Now here in lies the only difference of dinning perspective between my lady and myself. I don't mind boxing my left overs because I probably have already managed to drop some food on my shirt. On the other hand I am a proponent of the server coming to our table just to friendly check on our satisfaction with our meal. This they did twice. Meal finished , food boxed now we can just get up and leave. I already paid for the food at ordering. I liked that aspect of when done just leave. Leaving the crowded restaurant passing smiling staff in this pleasant environment made for a wonderful experience . I would recommend this place to anyone that would appreciate delicious Mexican food that doesn't cause a fire in your mouth, but concentrates on pleasing your taste buds with good , fresh food. It's nice to have a Los Agaves in Westlake for when you're in the mood for their delicious enchiladas. Their Agaves enchiladas is where it's at - portions are huge and filled with fresh fish and shrimp. Plus their salad has the perfect homemade mango dressing on it that is light and refreshing - great compliment to the savory enchiladas. Have never ordered their drinks here but have seen plenty of people enjoying one of their margaritas. Service is pretty efficient here. I have been a fan of Los Agaves for over 12 years, my first experience being the one in Santa Barba, the Milpas St. location. So when we were making a plan to celebrate my daughter's birthday, we thought, what a great opportunity to visit the location in Westlake. First, the location in this Plaza is beautiful! Especially right now during the holidays with all of the Christmas lights and the beautiful Christmas tree. The restaurant has a beautiful entrance, and I loved the patio. So pretty! It was too cold to sit outside, so we asked for dining indoors. We were seated promptly at a table in the back. Once we were seated, we were told to place our food order at the restaurant. Very promptly, while we were looking at the menu, their chips and salsa service came out. Beautiful presentation, with 3 of their classic salsas. My daughter got the 2 item combinatio, which is her standard order, and this time, I decided I wanted to try their mole. It had been some time since I had ordered this. The food also arrived very quickly, which my daughter commented, "it's like that already knew what we were having." To me, it spoke of the freshness. At the other locations, you can see the cooks in the kitchen preparing the orders as they are placed, this felt like pre-prepped meals. The food itself was not what I am used to for the quality that I have experienced every time at Los Agaves. When the Oxnard location was open, we were pretty much regulars, and it was outstanding every time. This time, the food was overly salted to the point where we could not eat the rice and beans. The mole had a good flavor but was still slightly heavy on the salt. After a while, it was difficult to eat. We were able to call over one of the food runners and explain the situation, and he did offer a replacement for my daughter's meal to supplement what she wasn't able to eat. I did appreciate the quick resolution. Overall, I don't know if I will return to this location. Perhaps I have been spoiled with the warmth and quality of the other locations. If this had been my first time, I wouldn't be such a fan. It was also very loud that I couldn't hear my daughter when she was talking. So perhaps if you want a night out, they do have a full bar, and maybe that is more the focus here. It did feel more like a bar scene. If you want a more intimate experience, I would recommend the locations in Santa Barbara. read more

The food at this location has really gone down lately. When I was there with my coworkers recently, my fajitas came cold and the chicken had a strange texture. For the amount this place charges, this is pretty unacceptable. What I found to be extremely unacceptable was that this place was closed today when I went over to grab lunch. After checking out their Instagram page, I noticed they closed because of some national shutdown. The fact that a local business like this would openly support something like this is ridiculous. Not to mention the so called shutdown was against ICE enforcement activities which is disturbing. My coworkers, family, friends could not believe Los Agaves would do this so we will no longer be supporting any of their locations. read more

We went to this place maybe 3 years ago it was amazing. Service top tier. Fresh tortillas. Today we went in and first they have no servers. You need to go to the counter to order your food. Prices are high like your paying for quality service. We had no idea who to ask for napkins, more salsa. They had the napkins as a dispenser on the wall. We were trying to talk to one another and they had about 10 employees walking around randomly checking in on the guest and it's was annoying. Every 2-3 minutes one would walk up and ask "are you guys ok." Interrupt our conversation when we had already got asked by another employee. It was such a confusing visit. Not impressed by the process here. It's Westlake if I wanted fast food service quality I would have just went to In n Out. Do better Los Agaves!
