Saw new work today and the improvements have made the course so much better. Looks like they are moving in the right direction!

Should never take 5 hrs and 20 mins to get through a round of golf as a threesome. Especially on that easy of a course. Course was ok and it actually wasn't all that busy. Clubhouse just jammed tee times with fivesomes and did not stick to a schedule. Just threw random golfers together in massive groups to nonexistent tee times. The second hole had 5 groups on at once (par 4 - one on green, one on fairway and three waiting to tee off). Not going back there. read more

$24.50 green fee on a week day. I have played this course off and on for 35 years. It has not changed much and it is still fun.

Just finished playing a Rd. It's packed on Saturdays in the morning because there's a weekly tournament group. Course is in great condition; staff is friendly. No hills; flat course. a few dog-leg left and rights. Fun course to play on. Only 6200 yards from the blues. Would recommend coming here. I would give it a 5 star if it were a longer course. read more

We just had our daughters wedding here last Thursday and everything went off so perfectly. We were all Marie was so on point with everything from all of the planning, rehearsal, bridal suite, set up on the day of with decorating in and outside. Marie even had food for the wedding party on as we arrive early to get ready in the bridal suite.The servers/staff was very attentive as we had a few guest that attended who were either vegetarian or vegan and they accommodated us with a few different selections for them. We had decided on the meat lasagna, chicken fettuccine Alfredo. They were so good and the other guest said the butternut squash was amazing, I am so bummed that I didn't try it when I had the chance. The little tots that attended were served chicken strips, fries. Marie was so awesome to work with from of start to finish as we had been planning with her and Barnard for over the last 6 months. We have visited several other sites to have the wedding at, but no one could even compare to Los Amigos, they were so accommodating. I will be referring anyone to them. I can't say enough about the facility, venue, gardens and staff, servers. Just simply AMAZING! Wish I could give more than 5 stars, they sure deserve it. read more

A nice little public course hidden in downey area a few blocks away from the well known rio hondo golf course. Greens are in great condition and is a bit on the slow side in terms of speed...course is pretty balanced where in it has couple of dogleg holes and a few holes where water hazards come into play.....course a little bit short hence the 3 stars. They have a nice little restaurant and a friendly staff. read more

Went here for an event at the hall. For was below average as the chicken was rubbery vegetables undercooked and salad drenched in Cesar dressing. The hall room does not have a view of the golf course. Atleast the one we were in. We had a view of juvenile hall lol. read more

Played it today. I heard it was under new management and some change was happening. Gotta tell ya, they are indeed making some changes! Course is much better than the last time I played it back in July. Greens are much better but tees still need some help. Starter says new cart paths and bunkers are going in after the rainy season. They had a temporary green on the par 3 hole #9 and the guy I was playing with told me that the rumor is that they are going to change it to a par 4. Besides being a little cold today we had a good time. read more

I'm a DJ and worked a Sweet 16 this past Saturday. Everything went well until it was time to go. I guess Los "Amigo's" Country Club has some kind of rule where the DJ must be out of there within 30 minutes after the event ends. That is not reasonable time AT ALL! The security guards were rushing me out reminding me that I had "10 more minutes" and to hurry. Well needless to say, I am NEVER going to do another event there again and they are banned from my list of venues. If you're a DJ or entertainer, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! Think twice about this venue, they will try to make as much money as posible, wich means they will over-lap the time on same day events. My wedding guest were standing in their very small lobby for 45 mins. waitting to be seated in the reception room, because they had an event before my wedding and those people stayed for pictures and socializing. The ladies in this office, "Stephanie" whom I made my arrangements with never ordered my table linen (over-lay) so the tables only had a table cloth & my flowers, Brenda who was the manager there took one of my payments and later was fired for fraud! This venue recomended Brenda's husband Ernesto Ueman-Ramirez @ (creativaevents) as the best photographer whom I hired and paid in full, never gave me my wedding photos he committed fraud just like his wife! Bernard Vargas Director @ Los Amigos Golf Course promised he would help me in this matter and never did. Any life event is suppose to be special especially a wedding, but, when you save as much money as you can so it will be not only beautiful, but special in so many ways, thats what you should get in return for your money. I trused all these people involved and not one of them cared about what they delivered, please do your-self the favor of taking your money some place else!! read more

If you want to golf in Downey, spend the few dollars more and play Rio Hondo. I've given this course multiple opportunities, never really enjoying it, and now, I've finally decided that they will never receive another dollar from me again. For the quality of the course, they are way overpriced. Slow play. Nobody fixes their divots and ball marks on the greens, making putting a mess every round. read more

I must say that there are major improvements happening. Bunkers and greens renovated. The Golf course is a very fun track, the facilities are new and amazing, I highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches, and the greens are in great shape. For the Price it is a great day of golfing. Prices went up recently, but the course itself doesn't show it. Tee boxes for Par 3 holes were full of big divots. Others are ok. Greens were a little slow due to recent rain, but rolled well, although a few ball marks are around. Fairways are decent, rough is kinda thin at spots and good at others. Pace is good, until people go searching for balls in both dried up lakes and real lakes. Fun layout, but probably won't go back, as you can get nicer courses for the price. read more

This place deserves NO STAR WHAT SO EVER!! I cannot express how horrible this place is and I will make it my mission to inform any future bride's to have their weddings elsewhere! the coordinator was present to take the money but we saw neither hide nor hair of her before during or after the wedding. If the pond wasn't so stagnant we would have enjoyed the ceremony... is it even safe for people to be around it?! NO ONE was around to set up the banquet tables! And my son was the only one putting up tables and chairs while the employees chatted and relaxed. The wait staff was snarky and rude. The food was ice cold and they took their time. The food was below average in quality. There was an issue also, because it was an evening wedding, the were supposed to be lights. Again the so called coordinator, I believe her name is Yolanda, dropped the ball, didn't arrange for lights, passed the buck to an assistant who also dropped the ball. Ridiculous! And they're thieves, taking the bride's crystal and giving stuff to vendors that belonged to the bride and groom! WHAT THE HELL??!! Great course that has really been on the rise. Played this course about 5 years ago and it has really turned around. I recently have been playing a few times a month. Greens roll nice and they do a grea job keeping the course in Good shape. The bar has been re-done and they are finishing an outdoor bbq. Very impressed! read more

Great staff! Replacing Rio Hondo for Los Amigos!

Planning for a Quinceanera is not as simple as when we were that age...but the staff at Los Amigos made it as painless as possible. Our daughter had her own vision for her Quinceanera. She envisioned a lavish yet hip (teen-like) garden event in which not only would she have the time of her young life but her guest would have something to cherish and remember. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! First, the facilities were well taken care off and on the actual day of the event, they made sure everything was immaculate (the pictures speak for themselves). Secondly, the appetizers and food were exquisite and everyone was raving about the chicken ( cordon bleu and rosemary), rice, salad, shrimp, and even the nacho chips and guacamole dip. Thirdly, the staff, from the security guards to the set up crew to the waiters/waitresses to management were all amiable and readily available catering to not only our need as hosts but also our guests. Lastly and most importantly, our coordinator (Brenda) was readily available anytime we needed something and guided us through the process. She also connected us with all the right vendors, which were all as professional and attentive to our requests, as Brenda was. She was not only available during the 9+ months it took to plan, but on the day of the event, Brenda and her staff made sure our daughter's Quinceanera was what our daughter envisioned. read more

Would not recommend this venue at all...Brenda the sales person is such a flake! No professional follow thru at all. Never communicated with the food and beverage coordinator on what dishes were to be served, so we got cupcakes instead of cheesecake and got some funky chicken dish instead of the mango chicken we had at the food tasting, which reminds me that we had to reschedule from saturday to monday then when we show up monday we have to come back on wensday because they didn't know what dishes to have prepared for the food tasting that monday....horrible customer service from the sales aspect. read more

DO NOT HOLD A RECEPTION HERE. Music is not allowed after 11pm if you have a party with a DJ or music in the garden area near the lake or the gazebo area (outside) since the golf course is near a residential area. So I came to a 1 yr olds birthday party yesterday 9/12/15 it was in the garden under the trees near a lake very nice and elegant good on a hot summer day. What helped is that the mom rented lights to wrap across the trees to give it that elegant look, which by the way the facility does not provide. Although I heard from my friend that she shelled out about $3000 to $5000 to rent the facility for her daughters bday party. I think it is too much for the lousy service they provide and the exterior and the parking lot needs a lot of work in my opinion it's not bad but it's not up to par either. Well we arrive at the party just as they are about to serve the food we sit down relax and enjoy the nice scenery and the waiters start serving a Caesar salad at first then the main course was chicken breast with gravy, steamed veggies and mash potatoes the dinner was good except for the veggies that had too much pepper but oh well. The facility provides water, unsweetened ice tea, and soda to drink which is self serve the caterers do not serve you I have been to other halls or facilities where the waiters are going around with pitchers replenishing your drink every time. So the waiters pick up the dishes which some have a nice attitude and there was one who had a bad attitude. After that s done the music starts their bar is ridiculous and not great either it is a few flat dinner tables with a house lamp! They use a clear bin that you buy at Walmart or target to keep the beer cold with ice which melts quick by the way beers were not that cold and expensive $6 for modelos and $5 for bud lights which is pricey, which made me hit the bar once and the warm beer didn't help. About 930 pm the security tells the DJ to lower the music wth so he lowers it and people are dancing and some guests start to leave. I chill for a while more then 11 pm hits the DJ has to turn off the music (bad) so we start to walk to our car and I notice a quinceneara that was 200 ft away was done way before us that's not a good sign for this facility since you pay a lot of money to enjoy your party. NEGATIVES: No music allowed after 11pm in the garden or gazebo area. They provide an event coordinator and catering service which other yelpers have complained about having bad experiences. I don't think you can hire your own. Self serve drinks not laziness for the amount you pay its expected to be served. Bathroom has no A/C somewhat clean. Event coordinator went MIA only appeared about 2 times during the party. Some paths are dark so you can easily trip. Expensive expect to pay $3000 to $13000 not worth it. Lousy bar makeshift of dinner tables and a house lamp not much of a variety of bottles and mixes and expensive. By the way the event coordinator was suppose to set up the tables and chairs at 2:30 and they didn't set up until 4pm, the waiters dropped the birthday girls cupcakes luckily she had a cake which made the birthday girls mom very mad. 1. The sound system they provided was set too high. No one was there to adjust it. After about 15 minutes of feedback and screeching, the photographer finally turned it down. Every other event facility has someone with overall event responsibility to check such things when the event begins. 2. The food was really poorly prepared. About the same quality as I would expect in a hospital. Shall I go down the line? Salad not fresh, dressings poorly presented, cole slaw bland, potato salad ok, chinese chicken salad strange, bread and butter were the best part of the meal, vegetables overdone, rice had 'peppers' for garnish leading me to believe it might be spicy or at least have some pepper flavor -- no, just butter flavor, fish was cold and flavorless (chafing dishes had been uncovered for a while before we were served) and the chicken was overdone and way too salty. Coffee was put out but the hot plates weren't kept 'on' so it got cold quickly. There was only non-dairy creamer, no milk-based product to put in the coffee. Couldn't buy a glass of milk for my son for the cake. No ice for the water or punch. No iced tea. Unneeded wine was opened and put on the table for no reason. 3. There was no signage saying which event was where. If you're going to have more than one event site, you need to have some signage welcoming and directing your guests. read more

I Am a dj I do lots of gigs all over the place , this is the worst place ever . So they make make turn music down because the houses around the golf course complain. They make u turn it down so low that you can hear the crickets . If your considering this place for a wedding or any event don't do it . Or don't hire a dj or band just bring your I pod . Los Amigos Golf course is a great place to host an event. The staff there is VERY friendly and accomodating. Yolanda, the event coordinator, is very patient and willing to work with you on any special need for your event. Her positive professional attitude will make you feel comfortable and at ease. (these qualities are very important for any function). I had my wedding there last year and my baby shower recently and I was pleased with the services I received. The facility is modern, the bar is roomy, the food is delicious, and the golf course offers many locations for beautiful pictures- all for a reasonable price! read more

A good friend recommended this facility since she hosted an event there. We had our graduation party at the premises but many things that were said were not promised as follows: -Did not have enough tables as promised. -My tables were not complete with 10 chairs (I had guests standing up). Little that I know, there would be an extra charge for additional tables (found out after the fact). My cupcakes were not refrigerated since 11:00 AM and my event was at 6:30 PM. No coordinator ( did not know she did not do night events).No mic, screen, podium, reserved parking space for guest speaker, cake (had to look for it), dinner took very long to be served, my request to block the entrance to the gazebo (with a stand or fabric) where my candy station was located was not met, my table holders were not picked up at the end of the event. Yolanda the night time coordinator was in charge of her inside event along with the kitchen and our garden event but she seemed too busy. After the event, I tried scheduling a meeting to follow-up but I was unable to be there before 5 so I text her to reschedule and I never heard back from Brenda again. Did I mentioned, while we were having a consultation with Brenda, she was on facebook ? (found out after the fact). I decided to do a walk- in to the office a week later on a Saturday to find out if she was still interested in my table holders and she was busy. First Yolanda told me she would be available in 45 min. because she was hosting a ceremony (I intended to wait) then Brenda said she was leaving early to attend a personal function. Go figure? I really intended to go in with a clean slate but after this, I felt I was being ignored and they took my money and I was HISTORY... Mind you I had other parents, and our upcoming class were ready to set a date to have their event there but after this experience....would you even consider recommending this place ? REALLY... I had my wedding there 3 weeks ago my guests loved the place as well my husband and I , the coordinators were really helpful and they made their best effort to make my day special, we loved the food and the server FRANCISCO was the best friendly humble and professional sever I've ever met he was really nice and on top of everything , they remodeled the venue so it looks really nice both inside venue and outside. Recently, we had a Sweet Sixteen party for our daughter and about 100 people at Los Amigos Golf Course. The party for our daughter was truly a success due to the efforts of Yolanda, the Manager who coordinated the facility, the excellent food, Hors d'oeuvres, and excellent service from the very attentive servers who almost immediately helped with whatever we requested. We thought the facilities were excellent, clean and everything seemed modern and up-to-date. The view of the lush golf course from the banquet room added a very serene atmosphere to our party. I cannot recommend Yolanda's efforts enough, except to say we are having a second party at Los Amigos soon to celebrate a milestone birthday. We booked here because we were very excited to celebrate our wedding at this location, we canceled because we had horrible service starting with the "manager" Brenda and ending with the "manager" Brenda. Not only she flaunts arounds unprofessionally (food tasting and vendors events) but her demeanor, communication and lack of wanting to make our day special made us cancel. We booked without expecting anything in return but to have a venue to celebrate our wedding and we booked at Los Amigos without hesitation. As months past by no courtesy emails nor calls if we had any questions or anything only 2 emails for food tasting and 1 of them were a few DAYS notice. Until the day came closer to the wedding that's only when we got a few phone calls and emails demanding payment otherwise they would cancel our event. At the end of the day I would like to remember our wedding as what it should be a special day and not worrying if everything was taken care by Brenda and her team( As I had my coordinator ready to tackle any pending items) and ultimately not worrying about if Brenda would be more focused on not being professional or to prove her point to my coordinator the day of the wedding. We lost our deposit but we decided that our special day (now a more intimate gathering- due to these circumstances) would be better off rather than experiencing a potential disappointment and she not caring and brushing everything off as how they've handled my whole venue booking until the day we canceled. read more

I haven't played since they redid the course. I thought the course was in really good shape. Workers were trimming trees while we played. The greens were excellent and the fairways were pretty good. Who ever did the design work did an excellent job with all bunkers that used to be oval. Now they have shapes mounding and fingers to them like famous courses. The placement of them was excellent and they helped frame the holes. I liked everything they did and if you haven't played it in a while you should check it out for yourself. On number eight for example the traps on the left were moved up and then angled them in to the fairway to catch the longer hitters. They also removed the bunkers on the left of #14 and that was a good move also. The long par 3, #9 was turned into a cute, short par 4 to make it now a par 71course. Hats off to designer and ground crew. The young man behind the counter in the pro shop was nice and friendly. They had an air compressor to clean your shoes when we got done. 3.5 stars. The course is pretty straight forward with few obstacles, so it's ideal for beginners or weekend warriors. Might be boring for advanced players. $20 twilight green fees after 2pm including cart. The fairways and greens are in moderate condition with divots in many places from heavy use Pro shop has basics and restaurant/bar closes before sundown. Course is OK, but they always run behind. I've played 3 times and they were 45 minutes to 1.5 hours late every time. The girl in the pro shop would say we were the third group up every time we went in. I heard a couple groups say to pay her $20 to jump up in line. I'd recommend playing somewhere else. read more

I have played here pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years. For the price, it was a decent play on the weekends. The course is getting much better under the new ownership. The greens now are probably the best I have seen them in the past 3-4 years. The fairways are ok. The tee boxes at the best are OK. They are in the middle of trimming a whole bunch of trees. I cant wait for them to trim the trees on the 3rd hole. Hole 9 has a temporary green while they redesign the green into two tiers and add bunkers to the front. They are also going to be moving the tee box back and making it a par 4. The course is consistently getting better every time I go. I wish they could do it all once but I enjoy seeing changes/improvements every time I go. read more

Made my way back to see my old friend Los Amigos yesterday after a layoff from the game. Was surprised and pleased to see renovations taking place. Border fences removed allowing better access to facilities, interior renovations to all of the buildings. A new fleet of golf carts, used but in great shape, with some comforts and power! New scorecards, hole renovations coming along, giving me high hopes for a better golf experience in the future. Even got to drive the cart back up the walk that has been poled off for all these years. That in itself tells me that the people making the decisions are thinking overall and big picture! Watched them build this course from the corner of Rundell and ORSR, 50 years ago when I was a wee tot and played my first round here in 1970.
