Stopped by last week on my way to LAX for a flight and this course is everything folks say it is. A 9 hole pitch and putt with some of if not the best green and around the green conditions in LA. Having played Rustic Canyon and volunteered at Riv and LACC this is the closest I'll ever get to playing the latter two and the conditions are dare I say even better than Rustic or Soule Park. Super fun for those beginning or playing for the first time. You can try all kinds of strategies for each hole, flying it there, rolling it there , and it'll be something new and fun each time. Played the recently-renovated Maggie Hathaway Par 3 course and loved it! Other than the greens having recently been punched, the course is in terrific shape. I especially thought the bunkers were beautifully manicured, and the flowers growing in the waste areas were a nice touch. All the tee areas are mats, which makes sense given how much foot traffic this place probably receives. There is a fully-netted driving range (where you also hit off mats) and a large putting green. Because the renovations were recently completed to the course, there is currently not a clubhouse, so you check in at a shipping container -- since there is only one register, check-in can be slow. But because the course is short yardage-wise (about 850-900 yards total), you can play the course in roughly an hour. Our group loved it enough to go back out and play it again right after we finished! This is a great course to work on your wedge game! I would definitely recommend. read more

Great place, I love coming here especially after the new renovation. My only critique is that I wish they would stay open later. I would really like to come sometimes after work because it's so close to home but this place closes at 7 even if it got pushed back to 9 that would be perfect. read more

I played the opening weekend at the newly renovated Maggie Hathaway course. They did an amazing job with the renovations. They added trees, greenery and bunkers all throughout, increased the green size and added a lot of slope to make putting more challenging. There's a large practice green as well and overall conditions on the course are amazing. Great place to practice your wedges and shots within 80-110 yards. They will NOT let you play if you are a single player. They will let you PAY, but then they mention you have to wait until someone random comes and you end up waiting over half an hour just for a tee time. If they are here for the range, you can't go on the course until they pay for a tee time as well. I have played at Westchester, Alondra, Lakes at El Segundo, Westdrift in Manhattan Beach, and have come here to use the range on several occasions and have never heard of this rule ever before. They claim it's to prevent people from hitting 2-3 balls and slowing the pace of play. This is understandable if it were actually busy. Not a single soul is on the course as of typing this, it's 8AM on a Wednesday. Not a single person has stopped by for a tee time so I am stuck waiting for over half an hour due to an extraordinary rule. I would suggest making a rule where you are only allowed to hit one ball at a time, or ensuring you mention this BEFORE you take my money and force me to wait. read more

This location is convenient to swimming pool and a park. It's pretty much a win when it comes to someone who doesn't agree with golfing. They can literally enjoy a day at the pool or a park with a variety of activities such as basketball, baseball, or the usual friendly playground. Morning is a good time to come when foot traffic is light. Whatever you decide, you'll definitely enjoy it here. Just make sure you grab a bite and coffee to start off your day. read more

I've been playing at Maggie Hathaway Golf Course since I was a kid, and the recent renovation has made it look absolutely beautiful. It truly feels like a mini country club now -- well-maintained fairways, great practice facilities, and a welcoming vibe for a quick 9 holes. Everything was in excellent condition, the pace of play was smooth, and I highly recommend it, especially for beginners or anyone looking for a convenient, affordable round in South LA. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by an interaction with a staff member named Porter. We had a 10:30 tee time and waited about 10 to 12 minutes to check in. Right after, we walked over to the tee box and were just getting ready to tee off -- with two beginners in our group -- when he loudly yelled at us to hurry up, claiming we'd been there for 10 to 15 minutes (we had literally just arrived to the tee box getting clubs out). He continued in a very rude and confrontational tone, going back and forth with us unnecessarily. What made it especially frustrating is that we actually played very fast, even with beginners in the group. My friend and I kept our group moving efficiently, and we were always 1 to 2 holes ahead of the group behind us the entire round. This wasn't the first time I've seen him be unfriendly it's been years; he's been that way for as long as I can remember. With the course looking so fresh and inviting after the big renovation, it's disappointing to have long-time staff treating players this way. Could possible drive people away from what should be a great community asset. read more

Perfect 9 hole course to work on your short game!! For all nine holes I used my pitching wedge and putter. I probably could've used my 9 iron too. It took me about an hour and some change to finish the course. Another golfer joined me after the 2nd Hole. Very friendly vibe at this golf course. And reasonable prices, $7.25 for a round. They have a driving range too. I got a small bucket for $3.00. There's a ladies group that meets on Monday mornings at 8:00 am to play a round. read more

The course started off with a couple of hills on holes 1 and 2, then got straight from then on. Cute par 3, perfect for practice with games and with instructors. The price was $5 on GolfNow deals so I couldn't pass it up. It was worth every penny. The staff was so nice and helpful. They even let me keep my bag in the office because I brought the whole bag instead of a Sunday bag thinking it was a 9 hole or par 4 style. You could finish in an hour at best with this place. Great for beginners, although third best with Los Feliz leading the way in first and sea-aire leading in second, for the best par 3 for beginners. As well, the 3rd smallest, finish in an hour, type of par 3. The only drawback is the dried, brown patches and strips of grass. It needs more grass too. It was very thin for greens. read more

There is was... The good: Place is nice, small, good for some practice. Cheap, moderately kept. The bad: sign that says no smoking, with worker smoking in front of sign. Sign that says no profanity, many older minority gentlemen cussing up a storm. Young children practicing golf with these things happening around them. Open alcohol cconsumption with blasting music. Not a bad place to go but you get what you pay for, in the neighborhood it's in. read more

Fun par 3 course. It's 9 holes but you can play twice. Holes are under 130yards I believe. You do tee off a Mat. Has some hills and bunkers to make it a bit more challenging. You don't feel rushed by more advanced players feels more relaxed. Very inexpensive prices I think I played the course twice for under 25$. 9 holes are about 1000yards. read more

I was in the area and wanted to play somewhere easy to get on and something in decent shape. I walked onto the property and this lovely lady named Crystal told me everything I needed to know about the course and the driving range. Such great hospitality from her and good pace overall on the course and it's in decent shape. Definitely gonna come back. read more

Played here last weekend and really enjoyed it! We didn't need a reservation and there was no wait at all - amazing! It was only $9 a person and the course was not bad at all! It was great not having anyone behind us, putting pressure on us. We will definitely be back to play here! Much better then most packed courses! Great place to play for beginners! read more

When I was driving I had my reservations because of location in the middle of the city but this course will surprise you. All the greens are at an elevation so it will give you a nice challenge to practice your chipping game. There are bunkers placed nicely at the last hole, very high chance of landing in the bunker. Longest hole is about 129. You can go with irons alone and a putter. Price point is excellent. Went on a weekend and it was $9 for a round. They give you free water bottles when you begin. I live in the valley so drive is a "meh" but would go to this course four times a week if time allowed. It does get packed so showing early always helps. Sorry I forgot to take pictures :( read more

I been coming to this golf course for many years, but this past week I wasn't too pleased with the irrational behavior of the manager. Me and my buddy went to have fun, he is a beginner so we skipped a few holes and let others pass, never once holding back people back. As we finished our game and we we're about to exit the superintendent or manager asked us if we had paid? His tone and jumped up high blood pressure demeanor were extremely rude and out of line. It was a clear racial bias on his behalf, he accused us of playing extra holes, which everyone does and nobody cares. Hey buddy, this ain't Pebble Beach! It was a clear racial bias. He's one of those old fart-retired idiots who thinks he owns the course. I WILL BE REPORTING YOU TO THE COUNTY AS WELL, WHO THE HELL YOU THINK YOU ARE, GUS..!!!! Screw you! read more

This is a small course but you can definitely get a challenge out of this course!! You get to improve on your short game for sure. The greens are not the best so you don't get good par rice out of that. Very inexpensive and they have a replay rate if you want to get a nice little shirt 18 hole game. A decent spot for a quick golf session. Airplanes do fly over head very often, due to the courses distance to LAX. The course is located in the back of the park. All the way in the corner. It has a driving range and also a putting area. The grass is not pristine, but it isn't too bad to play. Overall for a quick golf pit stop I can't complain. read more

I want to give this five stars simply because of what this course is: a nice little course that allows you to quietly work on your short game nestled in the heart of a middle-class residential neighborhood. I also love the fact that it is named after a person who was so instrumental in the civil rights struggle in Los Angeles. Here's what cost this place a star: This course needs a small shop; nothing major, but at least a place to buy gloves, hats, water, coffee, etc., even a vending machine would be helpful. My other small issue was that the ball cleaners were all dry and there was no club cleaners. Please note that these are minor gripes that can be easily rectified. All in all, this is a great little gem that keeps you honest with the platformed holes. Please go and support it! read more
