I don't leave Yelp reviews often because honestly most places are somewhere between "pretty good" and "fine." But I had to break the silence for this one. I've been searching for legitimately good Mexican food around Boston for YEARS. Having family in Mexico ruined me in the best way possible because now my standards are absurdly high. Most places get a polite "yeah it was decent." Not this place. Holy $hit...Mestiza absolutely blew my mind. The birria tacos were the best I've ever had. Ever. Not "best in Boston." Not "best lately." I mean if these tacos and I got married tomorrow my wife would probably understand. The steak tacos? Unreal. The al pastor? Illegal levels of good. Everything tasted like the kitchen was personally trying to change my life. And the staff was awesome too. Super friendly, welcoming, and somehow patient while I sat there contemplating ordering a second full meal immediately after finishing the first one. This is the first restaurant in years where I walked out thinking, "well...food will never be the same again." Do not overthink this. Stop reading reviews. I was in the Lowell area & recently found out about Mestiza. After reading their story & seeing that they opened just about two months ago, I knew I had to go support this business. I was immediately greeted by Luisa & her husband, Chef Mario. Looking over the menu, I wanted to order everything but had to narrow it down. I started with the revuelta & birria pupusas, which are made fresh every day--you should have seen the cheese pull! Next, I had the chicken taco on a freshly pressed handmade tortilla. The star of the show was the best enchiladas I've ever had. The tortillas were incredibly fresh, stuffed with slow-braised beef ribs. There was a hint of sweetness that made me fall in love, especially when paired with their homemade hot sauce. I finished with the tastiest tres leches cake. I wish Luisa & Chef Mario all the success in the world. If you're in Lowell, please stop in & support them you won't be disappointed. They don't serve alcohol, but it's BYOB! read more

Tried the food at Mestiza about two weeks ago, and needless to say, this is officially one of our favorite Latin restaurants in the area! I love how the menu is simple yet varied, with something for everyone. The plating is absolutely 5-star worthy, and the service matches it. They were very accommodating with allergies and modifications, which is such a plus. We tried three kinds of pupusas--each delicious, though the bean & cheese was my personal favorite. The chicken taco was incredible--tender, juicy, and so flavorful (my toddler devoured it!). The burrito was packed with flavor and totally hit the spot. And the vegetarian enchilada with both salsa roja and verde was an absolute flavor bomb--I'm salivating just thinking about it! Portions were perfect, nothing overly greasy, and even my 2-year-old enjoyed most of the dishes. The Chef/Owner, Mario even came over to our table to introduce himself and share more about the restaurant. He was open to feedback, but honestly, we had none because the food was perfection. What stands out most for me is the thoughtful vegetarian options. It's so hard to find truly flavorful vegetarian dishes, but they really put effort into making the vegetables shine--so appetizing and delicious. Located in the lobby of the 491 Dutton Street building, Mestiza Latin Kitchen operates a food counter serving Latin American food. They serve tacos, pupusas, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, bowls, platos, desserts, and cooler drinks. There is ample table seating in front of the counter. They offer online ordering and DoorDash delivery. Recently, I decided to head over to Mestiza for dinner takeout. I ordered on the Toast app and my order was ready in 15 minutes. The Revuelta Pupusa ($4 plus tax) was grilled with a soft corn base filled with refried beans, melted cheese and soft pork, tomato salsa and pickled cabbage slaw on the side. The Pollo Adobado Enchiladas ($15.50 plus tax) was comprised of 3 rolled tortillas filled with seasoned pulled chicken topped with cheese & salsa roja with soft rice and beans on the side. Both choices were very tasty and had great flavors. I will definitely have to come back for more pupusas and to try out one of their bowls. read more

Absolutely delicious food with reasonable prices in a spacious dining area. Parking is a little tight in an apartment building area but there are plenty of spots. This amazing family run Latin restaurant opened recently and is simply incredible. The food is prepared fresh using the finest ingredients, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable. Mestiza is located in a converted mill/style building and has a bistro feel. It used to house a textile museum and retains the industrial feel. It can be a little difficult to spot the building but it's worth keeping your eye open. Lowell has a lot of wonderful dining options and this is one of the very best. read more

We had seen Mestiza come through our social feeds several times and decided to make the trek down Thorndike Street to Lowell's American Textile History Museum. It was like finding a culinary treasure tucked between the threads of the Mill City. From the first glance at the menu - laden with Latin and Central American dishes with Salvadoran soul - we knew we'd found something special. Not just authentic, but responsibly sourced, and served with the kind of warmth that makes you feel like family. We had the pleasure of chatting briefly with Luisa, the radiant spirit at the front of the house, who clearly believes in putting amor on the plate. A quick peek into the kitchen confirmed what our taste buds already suspected: this place runs on freshness, flavor, and a whole lot of heart. We started with queso and fresh corn tortillas, which were not just soft and tasty, but pressed right before service. The spinach and mushroom quesadilla was a savory symphony of earthy richness and gooey cheese, elevated further by a zesty verde sauce. Then came the veggie tacos - stuffed with a technicolor medley of seasonal produce (think corn, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, peppers) and expertly seasoned. And let's not overlook the rice and beans: too often relegated to filler status, these were MVPs in their own right - also very well seasoned and flavorful. And of course, the pupusas. My Husband I really enjoyed our meal. I didn't think to take a picture before we started eating. Very nice family run business. We met the owners a very welcoming Husband and Wife team and their young son. They made suggestions on what to order and all the food is made to order and was so delicious. We had Pupusa's and Tacos.
