Man, came here recently and the service changed. Not sure if they're under new mgmt but waiter was slow and rude. Also, charged us for a cup of water "because of the ice". Waiter took our order twice and when we recommended maybe jotting it down, he told us he would remember it but didnt. There are a lot of taco places in the area, including taco trucks, I dont recommend anyone going here. Giving two stars because, although service was horrible, tacos were still giving. read more

I really liked this place. However I've been here a few times and the service is just not there. Long waits, charges for cups of water now. Sometimes friendly and sometimes not. When the waiter came to take our order he asked if we were dining in or taking a to go but we were sitting so I'm confused. After giving him our order he said he would remember and then came back cause he forgot. He indeed forgot some items we ordered as he did not write it down but as long as I wasn't charged I guess that's ok. As much as I like the food, I won't be back. read more

I was in the mood for Mexican food, and wanted to try some place new. This place popped up and I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, it's in a gas station? I was sort of hesitant about dining here, but the place is a okay. There's obviously limited parking and seating here, so FYI it's not good for groups. Maybe a party of 4, tops. I reviewed the menu and kind of scoped the place out when I was inside. There's a wall and door that separate the restaurant portion from the station itself, so that's good. Some of the tables were dirty and looked like they were in need of being cleared, so it made a tight situation even tighter because it meant I had to sit right smack dab in the middle since there was only 2 other places to sit. My server was nice and answered a lot of my questions. The menu's decent but it's mostly dinner entree's here. I went with the 2 tacos that came with rice and beans since I was kind of hungry. Sadly, they don't have barbacoa, just ground beef and steak, in regards to meat selection for tacos. There's also pork and chicken, but since I don't eat pork and didn't feel like chicken, that kind of narrowed down my options to what i was going to get. As for drinks, they also don't have any fountain pop here at all, nor do they serve glasses of water. You have to purchase bottled water or no water at all. I think it's a $1 a bottle. They have can's of coke and some Mexican pop, and that's kind of it. I docked a star for the limited drink options because it was kind of a bummer. Plus, since seating was limited and the place wasn't packed, the tables could have been cleared sooner than later. As for the food, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I mean, it wasn't life changing but definitely good and the beans were awesome. The rice was good, and I mixed it with the beans, so that was tasty. Tacos were very yummy and over all, it was worth visiting here. Regardless of the tables that needed to be cleared, I wish they would at least have glasses (or Styrofoam cups) where you could at least get refillable ice water or something. Maybe they don't have the space, I'm not sure, but that's kind of a thing for me. Overall, a decent quick lunch spot or place to carry out from. read more

Do Not Come Here! They are very slow, every time my family and I come here they are rude and not welcoming! We went to order Huaraches and they didn't have the beans then we changed our order for the quesabirrias and they only had goat which did NOT taste good. We changed our order for tacos and we asked for some with no vegetables and they still put it on. As we got home to eat we could not eat because our order was wrong and had to go back for the remake. They are known for scamming tickets for dances when the event is cancelled. Do not recommend for coming here for that either! Be Cautious !! read more

There are many, many Mexican restaurants in the Pontiac area to choose from. Los amigos has Best traditional Mexican tacos in town. On Tuesday, taco Tuesday... Tacos are $1.29. regular price is $2.99. There are many, many different types of meats to choose from. The meat is super flavorful and the corn tortillas are not greasy or oily. The salsa is fantastic. The "hot" salsa is fire! Chips and salsa are on point. This restaurant is next to/inside the gas station. It is easy to miss, if you don't know what you're looking for. The restaurant staff is super friendly! I ordered for traditional tacos, shredded chicken, both kinds of pork and steak, some without and with cilantro and onion and added grilled onions and jalapeños. I cannot wait to go back. Pontiac, MI Came here for lunch with a colleague I haven't been in touch with for a while, we were surprised to find out that the establishment is on the property of the Marathon Gas station adjacent to the Sundry store. There is a connecting door inside as well as it's own separate entrance. There are about 10 parking spots at the edge of the property just steps away. Inside, the place is small and the decor is basic. With seating for about 36, all tables that seat four. Menus are laminated, and the place is open early to catch the morning commuters wanting breakfast. While not overly extensive, their menu selection was very decent, serving up authentic Mexican dishes. They had a special going on, 3 taco for $5. After perusing their types of tacos, I was sold. I went with the lamb barbacoa, the chiccharron verde, and an al Pastor. They had a page of their menu advertising Flautas for $1.29 each, so of course I had to get one! I went with the chicken over the potato. To wash it all down, a Green Apple Mundet. Tacos, all served traditionally with two soft corn flour tortillas, with chopped parsley and onions, and lime in the side. Lamb Barbacoa. The lamb was shredded or pulled, moist, juicy, and tender. I added some red chilies sauce to kick it up a notch or two. Standard basic street taco you'd find in Mexico City, no disappointment here. 4 stars. Chicharron. Pork Rinds. I was actually hoping they would use the appetizer style roasted chicharron just chopped up, but again they were true to authentic Mexican style where it's stewed and soft. Flavorful, but not enough to quell my hopes. 2,5 stars. Al Pastor. Made famous by street vendors, this is my favorite taco. Spit grilled cuts of pork shoulder, the meat is slow roasted much like shawarma and gyros. Marination varies but has the common ingredient of pineapple or pineapple juice. The street version in Mexico City has a whole pineapple roasting at the top of the spit so that the juices drip and soak into the meat. Each taco is made to order and gets a tiny chunk to top it off. Unfortunately in MI, I have yet to have an Al Pastor that does this, and Los Amigos is no different. Still good though. 3,5 stars. Chicken Flauta. Shredded chicken meat marinated and rolled up in soft shell corn tortilla, then deep fried to a crisp. Topped with lettuce and cheese, it doesn't get better any more pure than that. The flauta was over cooked IMO, but not by much. 2,5 stars. The bill came to $11 pp after taxes and tip. Overall, a nice little place for lunch. Not to take a first date on, but the recipes are authentic, the place is clean, and the service is great. A solid 3 star place. Would I come back? Yes. Simple and awesome place. I came with my wife (she dragged me here) and we tried the following: Picadas, pambazos, huaraches and quesadillas. I can gladly mention the food was amazing! I felt like I was in Mexico! The place is not fancy at all, but if you do not care about that too much, then you will have a great experience. My kids and I were so sick and we were looking forward to some good Mexican. Meat was sent burnt, onions and cilantro were not fresh, the drinks were definitely old and gone off.
