One of the longest Happy Hours in the Navy Yard. Great rolls and sashimi/nigiri. We always sit at the bar and the service is always great. My boyfriend isn't a fan of raw fish, more of a general tso chicken fan which he's had here and said it was great.
Update: since my last review this restaurant kept its name but changed its cuisine to Chinese. We decided to try it out as a Chinese food place and wanted beef noodles. We decided to do take out and ordered online. The process was easy and the food was ready on time. When we got there it was a little quieter so we had to wait until an employee was on the floor to get us the food. We got braised beef noodle soup and wonton in chili oil. The wontons were good, 8 pieces. It seemed like there was another sauce on it, in addition to the chili oil, and that sauce had a sweetness to it that I wasn't expecting. We enjoyed the braised beef noodle soup. They packed the soup separate from the rest of the dish, which was good. The beef was tender and so were the pieces of bok Choy. The noodles were a little thicker than what I'm used to but they were cooked well. When we first ordered it, I was afraid it was going to be spicer, because of the redness in the soup. It ended up not too spicy.
Basebowl was a really delicious Ramen bar that is across the street from the Nationals Stadium. My boyfriend and I were looking for a yummy spot before going to the D.C. United game Saturday night and glad we stopped here! They had roll up doors so the bar faced the sidewalk and was very inviting. We got the Lychee Frozen Colada and a vodka soda with the steamed shrimp dumplings as the appetizer. They were fresh and tasty but could have used a little more seasonings to give it some oomph. Then we both got the Strike Out ramen bowl with the fried chicken. It was delicious! Really good flavors and the coconut milk base broth was really tasty. Overall, a great spot to stop at grab food and drinks and people watch from the bar. They had very attentive staff that were always smiling and asking if we needed anything more. Check it out if you are in DC around the Nats Stadium!
The name is a bit cringe, but this is a distinctive offering amongst the largely generic set of businesses outside the stadiums. It was busy due to the game schedule when I walked in. Their solution was a QR code ordering system. My cell service was dubious but they do have free wifi, so that helps. There was some waiting, but I was able to get out inside of an hour when most businesses in the area were slammed, so not a terrible service outcome. They offer a generally Szechuan style of cuisine, and I had not seen the yu xiang preparation offered for tofu before so I took the chance to try something new. The flavor was a little sweeter than I'd expected for the cuisine, but there were ample fermented beans that showed that proper ingredients were used in the sauce, and the savory element grew on me. I prefer my Szechuan cuisine to be mouth-meltingly spicy, but I could see why this dish appeals to people. My tea was quite strong-I would go so far as to say overbrewed-but to me it wasn't a huge bother as it provided a useful flavor contrast. The vegetarian selection had other things that I think would be worth trying.

When we finally got seated she gave us zero time to even attempt to look at the disgusting menus before asking us numerous times what to order. Meanwhile, she couldn't bring us water. I asked several times for a cup of water for my son .. never received, nor could he get a fork or spoon. Just all around disappointing service and again they were not busy. We ordered spring rolls and the mango general two chicken. The spring rolls were flavorless, the sauce really didn't help them at all. It was just carrots in a fried paper with a little of cabbage. The general tso was fine but didn't have any different flavor compared to a normal takeout restaurant. Basically for the mandatory 20% gratuity and the price of the food I wouldn't recommend this place. Service is bad and food is at best mediocre with drinks that were mainly drink mix and no alcohol.
So basebowl had great ramen. Then they got rid of the ramen and added Chinese food. That was a mistake. Fortunately the ramen seems to be back on the menu, but we tried the Chinese food for carry out recently. It wasn't the best but it was good enough for us to conveniently pick up in our neighborhood. The sesame chicken didn't taste bad but the sauce wasn't the right sauce for sesame chicken. The lo mein was actually quite good. The veges were very fresh in the vege lo mein and the beef was tasty in the beef one. I liked the steamed pork dumplings, my husband didn't. We prefer Yums for carry-out Chinese but since we left that area and live in navy yard now, we'll prob pick up from here from time to time for the convenience. The ramen is still the best though!

This place is undergoing changes in the menu. They are transitioning from Ramen joint to a more Chinese food menu. Right now the service is a little sketchy (not in a bad way). It's just that the menu is changing and the waiter is not 100% sure of what's available or what's on the menu. Nevertheless, I like this place. Service is quick. Staff is friendly. Great location. You should definitely try the MàKKu, rice beer that's unfiltered. It's sooo good, like an alcoholic creamy drink Service is friendly and a low key atmosphere. Not super trendy, which I like. Prices are very moderate for DC.
I stumbled on this spot after a Nats game. The open door concept was inviting and they had a huge sign that said happy hour all day! They had some amazing drink specials for HH. I also decided to try the ramen. The bartender suggested the Strike Out. I wasn't impressed. The soup, which was curry based, lack flavor. It was missing something. The veggies were cooked well and the noodle were amazing! However, ramen has to have a good soup base to complement everything else. I wanted to love it but it fell short. The chicken was served on the side and was seasoned perfectly! I'd come back to try something else.
The name is excellent - and it's a decent option for any type of Asian food in a neighborhood without many Asian options. It's right next to the ballpark and it's a perfect meal after watching the game with a few beers. That said, it's no where near the best ramen in the DC area so I would only recommend this place if you are already in the area - you should not come out of you way to visit here. The chicken I had was a bit soggy - it wasn't the nice crunch you would expect from fried chicken. The noodles and broth were fine - nothing objectionable but not too special either.
Swung on by after the Nats game was done - super busy at the bar but the dining room wasn't full. They told us to sit anywhere so we picked a table - it was cooler than outside but since the bar opens to the outside and connects to the dining room - it ended up being a little warmer than I'd like - which was a bummer after a hot June game. Servers were polite, albeit rushed and I'm sure tired after a long day of game day customers. We ordered an appetizer of gyoza, entrees were ramen & specialty sushi roll, a nigiri roll & a soda. We had to ask again for the soda after they brought out the appetizer but not the drink. They promptly brought out the soda once we reminded them. Ramen came out quickly after the appetizer and then the specialty roll. Ramen had a good flavor- perhaps a smaller bowl than I'm used to at other ramen places but it was still good. I had ordered the Foul Ball roll but they had accidentally served the Wild Pitch roll. I didn't realize it was the wrong roll since both have tempura fish in it and topped with tempura flakes. When I had finished, the server came up to profusely apologize that they made a mistake and offered to bring me the correct roll and not charge me for my food, but I was already full. I appreciated that they informed me and took off the meal on our check which is why I'm giving 4 stars. The food was fine, staff was friendly and it was a nice vibe after a long day at the ballpark. Mistakes happen and they owned up to it and made it right. Too bad the Nats lost LOL
The Ume Karrage was recommended by our server and I must say it was a solid choice! It was flavorful, crispy, and the perfect appetizer as we waited for our ramen. I got the Batters favorite ramen and feel like it had its pros and cons. The pro was that the broth was flavorful and had a hint of spicy. The con was that I didn't particularly like the beef! It was fatty, chewy, and tough. Aside from that, the included toppings paired well with the broth. Overall good :)
Ehhhhhhhh. I wasn't impressed. The bar tender was very pleasant and had a great attitude, but would disappear for long periods of time leaving a lot of us at the bar waiting for things we needed or wanted to order. I got the steak and broccoli and it wasn't hot when it came out. The drinks were full of ice. This place has a cool vibe and the music was good, but I wouldn't come back without eating first.
For a cold and dreary day, hot ramen is the perfect pick me up! Saw plenty of great reviews about this place and decided to check it out. Street parking was a challenge as others seemed to have the same idea but once I parked across the street everything from there was up. It's pretty spacious with a nice size patio area; it was empty, so I opted to sit at the bar - they have happy hour specials all day every day. I settled for a tequila lemon drop, edamame and the Strike Out ramen with fried chicken. The chicken was seasoned but I felt like I had mostly fat which added a chewy texture so I didnt eat all of it. The ramen itself was good, had a nice spice to it and the lemon drop was strong. The edamame was soft, like they used thawed frozen peas and barely any salt. Overall - this visit satisfied the craving of wanting ramen. My son & I came here before the Phillies/Nationals game. The food is fresher, better, a little healthier and same price or cheaper than ballpark food. There was one server/order taker so he was running around taking care of everyone. Eventually, another staff member showed and helped out. Ordered the Crab Rangoon ($8.95), Hunan Chicken ($14.95) and an extra bowl of white rice ($2.00). An automatic 20% service charge is added to bill (I am assuming tip so people don't skimp on the tip). I have no problem with that. The Crab Rangoon was good. It came out hot from fryer. Generous filling of imitation crab and cream cheese. The sweet and sour sauce was okay. Cuts through the greasiness of the oil from the crispy skin. The Hunan chicken turns out to be black bean chicken cause Hunan chicken should have a spicy brown sauce sans black bean. Nonetheless, it was a food portion and to fill 2 people, get an extra bowl of rice. There was chicken, broccoli, slices of canned mushroom, red & green bell peppers, water chestnuts, snow peas and onion. The dark brown sauce was savory with a fermented black bean saltiness. No spicy. I asked for medium spice. No red chili could be found. The servers while running around did give us refills of water without us asking. That's a huge thumbs up for me. Went to the bathroom so I wouldnt have to at ballpark. Clean and stylish. I added $5.00 extra custom tip for hooking up my fellow Asian brothers/sisters. This experience was a 7/10. Delicious ramen spot in navy yard. Great flavors in the ramen we picked- Thai and signature. I also got a Thai iced tea and my partner got a jalapeño moscow mule. Both were delicious. Service was awesome and they were very cognizant of checking my sesame allergy with the kitchen. Located near the busy baseball stadium made for a cool vibe. Highly recommend! read more

Stopped by before the Nationals game started. I had an espresso martini. The martini was really good, I enjoyed it. I had an espresso martini before from another establishment and it was very watery, this one had great flavor. The server was kind and answered our questions. I can't speak on the food since we only stopped for drinks. They have a few tv's showing different sporting events in this restaurant. read more
Looks great, tastes average. Missing spices and flavors that make Thai and Japanese food so great. We got lots of food. Their happy hour prices are great too. The sushi rollls from happy hour for $5 each were the best part of the meal, but basic sushi. Still good. I got the karaage don and it was basic chicken with white rice. All appetizers were ok. I tried the ramen and it was so plain when ramen shouldn't be. Very nice service. Spacious inside. Good TVs playing. read more

I found this place after being recommended by one of good friends and I am glad that I came to check it out! The spicy beef ramen tasted very fresh and the beef was so tender, I was able to savor all the flavor with each chew. The service was great and the restaurant was very clean. I definitely recommend you checking them out for lunch. Great value for the price too read more

I came in one Wednesday evening after googling "Soup Dumplings near me" I was solo so I sat at the bar. 1. The soup dumplings are good not the best but good. The pan fried dumplings, ramen and sushi were really good. 4/5 2. The bartender was awesome super friendly and gave great recommendations. 5/5 3. The dining area is a little small. But the bar has a lot of seats they played '10 R&B and it really was a vibe. 5/5 Side Note: There was couple sitting at the bar being super friendly and talkative. They order led about 5 apps and 3 entrees. (I only know because they kept talking to me about the food). Once the last entree came the couple got up and left one at a time. The bartender really took this in stride and didn't blow up. I can't imagine staying calm when all of that will come out of his wages. I made sure to tip 30%. read more

Delicious dumplings and ramen. I live in Tyson's, and order using Uber Eats. It's worth the distance and xtra time. The dumpling wrappers are chewy and bouncy while not overly doughy. Same goes for the noodles. I always get 1 order of soup bao dumplings, 2 orders of pan fried veggie liver gyoza and 1 order of spicy tangy wontons. I'm a soup dumpling and spicy wonton fanatic. I frequently go out of my way to try them at new places looking for the best ones. Most places I don't go back to. I order from this place regularly. read more

COCKROACHES IN FOOD!!! This new management of this restaurant has been the worst thing that has happened to this establishment. Gone are the baseball themed ramen noodle bowls! Now you have run of the mill Chinese dishes that don't taste good and aren't anything unique. There is absolutely nothing unique or good to say about the food or even the menus. Management is so cheap that they don't even pay for new menus and just tape paper over parts they don't to apply to this location! It doesn't even belong infront of a baseball stadium! Speaking of the food, my guest and I were surprised to find a literal COCKROACH in our bowl. Definitely not the type of protein I ordered with my noodles. The only thing good I can say about this store is the waitresses. They apologized so much, comped the meal and even offered a replacement meal and a bottle of sake. They did everything they could in their power to make it up to us, which I can't say about management. When contacting management they offered us a refund or meal replacement. Thanks buddy, but if you're going to charge me $17 and put a cockroach in my food, then you need to do more than say whoops. Your own waitresses cared more about us than you did. Obviously no reason to come back. The food sucks and I can get a beer without thinking roaches have crawled all over it a few doors down. read more

Stopped by for lunch. Started with the spring rolls - excellent, crispy, fresh, not overly oily - tasty. My main dish was Strikeout Ramen, served with chicken broth and coconut milk, Thai spices. The dish was marked as hot, but it was very reasonable in terms of spiciness and absolutely delicious - great combination of flavor and heat. Had very high hopes from the pictures but was disappointed. The service was great but the food wasn't anything crazy. The rice cake sauce was heavy on the sesame oil and I want too fond of the strong flavor. The. Scallion pancake was the best thing. The lamb and beef skewers were a bit dry. The dumplings were just okay. I probably wouldn't come back. It was decent food but nothing too crazy to go back. read more

Ambiance: they had a DJ which made all the difference (we came on a Thursday night) Food: OH. M. G!! The batters favorite is 10/10. I like spicy so I ordered ghost pepper on the side as well as a boiled egg. Guys!!!!! Ugh so good. Service: My server was Franklin and he was hilarious!!! My wife and I have seen this place near Nats Park and have been intending to try it. My wife and I decided to come here with our best friend before the final game of the Nationals and Cardinals series last Sunday. We arrived shortly before their scheduled opening and the server was kind to seat us early. The restaurant unfortunately does not seem to be getting the high level of business or other restaurants which is shame given their punny fitting name, cherry blossom theme, excellent food, and outstanding Asian beer selection. My wife and I started out with the Wild Pitches sushi roll and the Batter's Favorite (beef) ramen. They were both some of the best sushi and ramen we have ever had. We also had the Màkku Passion Fruit beer and the Hokkaido Melon ale. They changed the beer selection from the menu which listed a mango and watermelon ale, but what they had did not disappoint. We were still hungry so we ordered the Strike Out ramen which was our favorite as it was a green coconut curry with fried chicken. We also ended with the Kyoto Bakushu Kuromane ale which was also good but not as great as the first two beers, but still very good and unique. We loved the ramen, sushi, beer selection, and cherry blossom theme. The service was also wonderful. We look forward to returning before or after another Nats game or maybe to go to the neighborhood and would even go there just to support them when the Nats are not playing or before or after a DC United game as their new Audi Field is nearby as well. read more
I used to come to this place quite often when I was last year about four years ago. I just found out that the owners sold about a little over a year ago. Everything pretty much tasted the same and was outstanding. I really appreciated my waiter for he attended to pretty much every need I had while there. The past owners used to come around and talk to everybody, and that was a pleasure to make their acquaintance. I would say that's my only knock on this place and maybe the loud music. But definitely a place you should check out. The prices were not too crazy either (other than the service charge). Coming from Arizona. I still don't understand the service charge that pops up every once in a while here on the East Coast, but this place is definitely well priced just not the service charge that if there's two of you you're looking at almost $10 more which is crazy, so no big parties). I recommend one time but that's it. Two times you'll be broke. read more

Ate the Ume Karrage, soup dumplings and the gyoza. Also had the signature bowl tonkatsu and the strikeout bowl. I asked for some ghost pepper on the side and they happily brought out some ghost pepper. The Ramen soup base for the signature bowl was excellent! 8/10 The soup base for the strikeout was also pretty good, it was a Thai Curry coconut base that was semi spicy, I heated it up with the ghost pepper. 7/10 The noodles were nicely done 8/10 Tea eggs were good, soft boiled, but slightly over cooked 6/10 The soup dumplings were good 7/10 The Ume Karrage was sweet, but good 7/10 Gyoza was good 7/10 Overall a good experience. 7/10 I didn't like getting chased around by mosquitoes there, seemed to be a lot of them but can't blame the restaurant for that. The restrooms were one person rooms, but they were clean and well stocked. read more

Before going to an event at Nats Park, my family of three stopped into Basebowl, a fast-casual Asian restaurant literally next door to the stadium. Here's our experience: 1) Food: Their menu offers a wide range of options from ramen to bento boxes to dumplings. My wife and four-year-old daughter split the teriyaki chicken rice bento box (it comes with soup and a salad). They found it tasty. I ordered the Strike Out ramen bowl (green curry ramen with fried chicken on the side). I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as flavorful or filling as H Street NE's Toki Underground fried chicken ramen bowl. 2) Service: It's impeccable. Our server was attentive, friendly and rushed everything since she knew we were on a time crunch. Top notch service! 3) Space: It's a fast-casual joint, but they make good use of the space. There's bar seating and tables inside. Outside there's a sidewalk patio with heated huts during the winter. If you're in the area and need heated outdoor seating, consider Basebowl. read more
