As a child of Chilangos, I had to try this establishment. I'm not around from here but I was looking for something on yelp and came across this gem. It's a small restaurant but welcoming as you walk in. The menu reminded me of childhood foods my dad use to cook for us. They definitely use fresh ingredients and the dishes look like they should. I ordered the Pambazo, which is something you don't come around often or do they hit like the food truck we use to go to in LA as kids. I finished it in like 5 minutes it was delicious. Still on of the best spot in the neighborhood after living here ~10 years. If you like Mexican-style food but are looking for something a little different, there is much to appreciate here. Their menu includes staples like burritos and tortas but here you can also find huaraches, gorditas, pambazos, sopes and other examples of Mexico City's regional flavors. They also have more options for non-meat-eaters, with traditional options like squash blossoms, huitlacoche (try it trust me), nopales, and no-meat sopes, quesadillas, etc. They seem to use high quality ingredients, all the masa-based items are incredible and I believe home-made, or at least they taste like it (haven't confirmed but I think so.) The also have a particular kind of cured ham called 'cecina,' very thin sliced such that it reminds me of jamon de iberico or prosciuttio. Never seen this anywhere else, so it's something to try. Even I like it, and I'm not usually a fan of meat. Order it on a huarache... it is a wonderful thing. The interior itself it small, with limited seating (a few booths), and its a pretty small crew so I usually just order by phone and pick it up later so there's no wait. You can find photos of pretty much whole menu here on yelp, very convenient because I don't think they have take-home menus available. So DISAPPOINTED with the food. I ordered the carne asada huaraches and asada torta. Huarache was one of the driest I've ever had and the meat quality was POOR. It was sliced so thin, almost like a deli meat and most of it was chewy stringy cartilage. It was $7.99 which was a complete rip off. There was ZERO FLAVOR. Has this place heard of salt? The torta was depressing too. After lifting the top to check out the filling situation it was just so sad looking, and so was I. One sliver of an avocado and tiny spritz of mayo. There was barely any filling and was basically all bread. Only positive thing I can say is they seemed to have discovered salt in this item. Meat quality in the torta matched the huarache, TERRIBLE. Based off of an article I saw online saying this place made "delicious gigantic crispy fresh quesadillas" for a good value, I sought it out. Ordered the quesadilla with squash as described in the article. My friend ordered a vegetarian huarache. Waited at least 30mins for food. Chips were given with 3 really spicy and distinct flavored salsas which we enjoyed. The service was pleasant. We ordered a fresh juice and it tasted good but given the consistency, i was not sure it was actually made using fresh fruit but instead a little water-downed juice put in a blender. Quesadilla came and it was with a handmade tortilla but it didnt really taste like anything. It was not crispy at all and sadly the filling of the quesadilla was sparse. I mean it didnt have enough cheese to even look close to a quesadilla. They did add squash, avocado, and lettuce and with the orange salsa was alright to eat. The huarache had beans, nopales (cactus), and lettuce. We didnt know what it was supposed to be like so it seemed ok. Cost for 3 items was about $40. Thought that was really pricey for food that just tasted ok. Like others, when i left, i thought, for less than half that I could have had a yummy mexican pizza from taco bell... There were 2 other customers that came in after us during our visit which was lunchtime on a Friday. It seemed pretty empty for a place that had such hype. I hate to lower my rating and I've been here multiple times since my last review from over four years ago - unfortunately my last two visits were not as great just BLAND. The service was still good. My chilango (now) husband and I were seated fast and chips and salsa were brought out promptly HOWEVER some of the food has become hella insipid and flavorless. The last two visits we had barbacoa with consome, suadero tacos, asada tacos, and sopes with tinga de pollo (chicken). The suadero was pretty good. The asada wasn't as great as before. The barbacoa consome tasted watered-down for sure and the pollo tinga was the blandest I've ever had. I am not sure if it's because our last two visits were towards the end of day, or new cooks or management. Just knowing how great this place was, has me feeling a little disappointed. read more

This is literally a hidden Mexican Food paradise! I would have never stopped at this place if it wasn't because of a local friend who invited me. "Chilango" is a slang demonym that refers to people from Mexico City (a.k.a. Federal District). Hence this restaurant features authentic Mexico City street food, with dishes and beverages that you would rarely find in other restaurants. I had a traditional "gordita" which is made with corn masa (the same thing used to make tortillas) filled with pork, chopped onions, cilantro. It is slowly cooked without fat, which gives a very crunchy texture. Their salsas were mild, not really spicy but good flavor. I also added cactus, but that is really optional. I also had a tostada, which is a hard shell tortilla, the topping is pickled cow feet! The cow feet is cooked first and then marinated with vinegar, oregano, salt, onions, and other spices. Served with a variety of toppings: lettuce, sour cream, and queso fresco. I know this delicacy may not be for everyone, but if you are willing to try it, you won't be disappointed. Tepache is also a very different drink. Made with fermented pineapple and sweetened with brown sugar or piloncillo. This is a very refreshing drink and also worth trying. I was delighted with my food choices. But they also served more traditional options like quesadillas or tacos. Keep in mind that this place is cash only. Went in today. I never looked this place up, but I needed 2 carne asada tacos one Jamaica drink. Prety basic stuff. The meat they used was pre-cooked, so when they heated it up, the meat was hard tasted old. On top of that, the water of Jamaica wasn't fresh they had it from the night before it was spoiled. They chared me something for the water just for me to dive off and take a huge drink that made me so mad I had to call them. When i called, she offered only to exchange.
