We're visiting from Seattle and we're looking for a new place to try, En Familia popped up and they did NOT disappoint! The decor, how the tables are set up and overall the whole feel of the place gives you resort glam vibes. We were greeted quickly and sat down right away, our server was Cailin and she was fast to come up and introduce herself. She took our order quickly, took her time with us while we looked over the menu and gave excellent recommendations (seriously going to be dreaming about the steak and the fajita plate with shrimp!!). We had a great experience sitting at the bar, and Chris truly made our visit memorable. From the moment we sat down, he was attentive, friendly, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great time. It was obvious he was stretched incredibly thin--he was taking care of the entire bar while also making drinks for the whole restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't see much support from the management team, and it was clear he was doing the work of multiple people. Despite being overworked, Chris never let it affect his attitude or service. He took the time to ask what kinds of drinks we liked and created personalized cocktails that were perfect for us. His empathy, professionalism, and positive attitude turned what could have been a frustrating experience into a fantastic one. Chris is a huge asset to this restaurant, and I hope management recognizes how hard he works. We'll definitely be back, and a big reason why is because of him! We came to En Familia to celebrate my college graduation, and it was the perfect place for our long-overdue girls' dinner. We hadn't all been able to get together since graduating a few weeks ago, so this was a special evening. The ambiance is one of my favorite things about this restaurant. It has a rustic vibe that's somehow also modern and romantic. I could definitely see myself coming back for a date night or another celebration. We started with the Oro Verde, and wow... those homemade chips with the Morita seasoning were absolutely delicious! They were addicting and the perfect appetizer for the table. I ordered the Barbacoa Papa Taquitos. You get four generously sized taquitos, beautifully plated with crema, cheese, cilantro, and served over a bed of beans. They also came with a dipping sauce, which wasn't really my favorite, but once I added the green salsa the flavors really came together. For my personal taste, the taquitos could have used just a little more salt, but they were still very enjoyable. My friends ordered the shrimp Caesar salad and two Taco Trios (chicken, Wagyu beef, and surf & turf tacos), and everyone loved their meals. The portions were generous, everything came out fresh, and no one left hungry. The staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to make recommendations, which made the experience even better. Parking in downtown Anaheim can be a little challenging, especially with the Packing House and all the World Cup crowds nearby, so plan a few extra minutes. Back dated review May '26 This is about a visit that was for a birthday dinner with some girlfriends, that actually was for myself. We chose and Familia because we wanted tacos. It was Cinco de Mayo, and it was a good meet in the middle spot for us. We made a reservation and luckily for us we did because they were turning people away at the door if you didn't have a reservation, even though the restaurant was somewhat empty. They sat us at a decent size table across from the tiny little six top bar. Unfortunately, for us, there was a group of about 10 men watching the Laker game who seemed to be friends with the owners of the restaurant who stood around our table for about an hour, and we're screaming like they were at the sports bar. And from what we could tell, this place was not a sports bar kind of vibe. It took an entire hour for the waitress to come speak to us and take any drink order at all. To the point where we were closer to the bar where we should've just gone and ordered them from the bartender. We also saw what we believe were two of the owners just standing around watching their waitresses absolutely work themselves to death on Cinco de Mayo. When it finally came time for dinner, we had to ask for the special menu that they had advertised, and we proceeded to see that the drinks that we had ordered were triple the price of the Cinco de Mayo specials, but we were not offered that menu until after we ordered our drinks. We all ordered off the Cinco de Mayo menu, which had tacos for achiever price and you could add on sides of rice and beans. As pictured, I left some videos and photos of how greasy everything was. The rice was sitting in a pool of oil. It was overheated and crispy. The surf and turf taco had a soggy oil filled tortilla. One of the girls didn't get any toppings on her tacos as described and asked for a side of cilantro where she was given a bowl of what look like un prepped cilantro. I would probably never go back here. I would never recommend them. I feel like we fell into a tourist trap. If you could call it that. We went for good drinks, and they were good. I booked a reservation to celebrate my brother's birthday at En Familia. We arrived at 6:15p on a Friday and seating was pretty open. They started getting a bit busier towards 7-8p. The ambiance is definitely fresh and fun for a bit of an elevated get together or date day. They have good music playing and the AC was nice on this hot day. What we ordered: Queso Horneado: This is like a queso fundido or melted cheese dip and tasted amazing with chips. The cheese was super gooey and it has chorizo but isn't overly salty. Tase of EnFamilia: I liked that they had this option as it provides a small mix of a few different appetizers to try without having to spend so much money or order so much food. Everything tasted pretty standard, just the sope was a little hard. Bluefin Tuna Aguachile: A fun variation of aguachile using bluefin tuna rather than shrimp. The tuna MELTED in my mouth and the sauce had a nice kick. I also appreciated that there was a good quantity of tuna on the plate. Prime Filet Mignon Fajitas: This came out on a fun sizzling stone plate. It was cooked perfectly and the meat was extremely tender. My husband definitely gave this one a 10/10. Lobster Enchiladas Suizas: The flavor of the sauce was pretty good and has a bit of a kick as well. It came with rice and beans which made it feel like a full meal. However, I couldn't really taste the lobster. Prime Ribeye Surf & Turf w. Upgrade of Lobster: This one was definitely a little disappointing. We ordered medium and it came out more on the rare side. They were sweet to take it back and correct it, but the meat was not tender and more chewy. We also couldn't really taste the lobster on this plate, so I probably wouldn't upgrade if I were to order again. I left a note stating we were celebrating a birthday and a complimentary dessert of churro bites and ice cream was brought out at the end of our meal. This was delicious and a perfect little treat to end the occasion. All in all, it's a good place to try and I appreciate the aesthetic. But I don't feel like the dinner experience was worth it. When we sat down, they only gave us regular menus. I asked about happy hour and the server (name redacted but if the owner/manager wants to know, I have it) literally stared at me and said "we don't do happy hour" as if I'm dumb and making it up? If you had it but took it away, say so but don't gaslight me. They also asked if we wanted water and we said yes. They then proceeded to say "we have still or sparkling" and then tricked us into saying still to then charge us for it. LOCATION & PARKING // Located in downtown Anaheim and right next to the Packing House, it's in a prime location. It is huge and very spacious indoors. Street parking only. SERVICE // This is where it lacked. Service was horrible. I was already annoyed at the confusing happy hour situation and how they shared that info but our server disappeared regularly and was not friendly. FOOD // Food was fine but NOT worth the price. I came in knowing it would be pricy but everything tasted mediocre. The best thing was the flautas appetizer but you cannot be charging $28 for normal tacos ($9 PER taco) or almost $70 for fajitas. I was actually very impressed by the vegan tacos. The flavors were unique and exceeded expectations. I found this place through Instagram and then I looked at the reviews on Yelp so I told my friends to go try this place for the first time. We went on the weekend. We would assume it would be busy. We didn't have reservations, but it took about an hour to get seated after that. It took the server about 25 to 30 minutes to take our drink order. It took them another 30 minutes to get her drinks out and we finally ordered our food. We waited around an hour and a half for a food. If you go be really patient. when we got our food they got a few things wrong and my Friend got a plate with poached eggs and they did not cooked properly. My plate was overly salted. I finally had the chance to check out what En Familiar has to offer, and I was not disappointed. After dining there twice within two weeks, I can confidently say that everything was flavorful, including the queso horneado, Wagyu chorizo stuffed peppers, and huachinango zarandeado (red snapper). Came by for Valentine's Day dinner with a reservation to enjoy a night out. Note: there was a sign out front explaining they would be charging 18% service/gratuity free for Valentine's Day weekend, which is fair. The place itself was well decorated, festive and lively. The night started off well after getting seated, as each table was served with chips and salsa. We were offered a choice of still or sparkling water (which turned out to be $8). Server got our drink orders in & later came by to let us know that the kitchen is getting backed up, so that we should place our orders soon. Little did we know, the kitchen was already backed up and we'd be waiting over 1 hour for our steaks. To top this off, 3 couples around us were seated at least 30 minutes after us & received their food before/at the same time as us. I completely understand how hectic this night can be for a restaurant, but charging 18% automatic gratuity seems a bit unfair for the disorganization of the kitchen. Meanwhile, servers are running back and forth checking on their tables and waiting for their food to serve from the kitchen. Wait time aside, the rib eye and filet mignon were solid once they came out. The rib eye was a thinner cut but well-seasoned. The filet mignon tasted less seasoned but very tender at medium rare. The mushroom trio side was tasty but a tad oily. The garlic roasted mashed potatoes were covered with a layer of slightly hardened melted cheese that had I could have done without (perhaps it also waited too long for the steak). Overall, the food may have saved the night since I wasn't past hunger & it was a solid 4/5 for flavor. But I would avoid this place on a busy weekend. The owner was nice about the wait and offered to comp 2 of the drinks we ordered, but I hope the kitchen can get organized enough to handle these nights better in the future. For my drink I had the MARTINI Carajillo Espresso Martini and it was very good, I also had the Pistachio Cold Foam Martini which was my favorite out of the two. Both were great dessert martinis though, I just love pistachio flavor and the cream was high quality. Warning, I'm vegetarian and most of the foods (even ones that are normally vegan) are cooked in beef tallow here. Which I'm sure people that are avoiding seed oils and eat meat would be happy about. So make sure to ask what sides and foods have no beef tallow before ordering if you are vegan or vegetarian like me. This is a great spot, it's not too large but doesn't feel crowded, has a tropical Mexican vibe. The only thing, I wish they would have told us the specials for the day before we ordered. read more
