In Canon we have several Mexican places and they are all ok, but Los Compas is the best in my opinion. Wide menu (including American breakfast, if you are so inclined) at good prices. I have had mole, burritos, rellenos, tacos and margaritas. I have liked it all. Staff is great! Parking can be the only difficulty as it is limited. Amazing! I was shocked I could find authentic mexican so high up in the mountains. Canon city has a few options of this style cuisine, with some seeming more tex mex. Not here! I am always happy when I am mouth breathing a bit from the SPICINESS and Los Compas did not disappoint. We had 2 orders of the asada street tacos (2 meats), guacamole, elotes, and cheeseburger. The cheeseburger was better than many popular burger spots, and the tacos were delish! They were very traditional for what I am used to except a little beans added...well I am NOW a fan of beans on my street tacos, it added a nice little bit of creaminess that meshed well with the spicy. The cilantro and limes were fresh, and my side of guacamole was HUGE and came with fresh chips & a nice fresh/ spicy salsa. Elotes were good, might have been awesome with more cheese. Everything was thoughtfully packaged as a togo (door dash pick up order while driving thru) and I was able to eat in the car. Will go back when in town again. read more

We needed our Mex fix on this trip. From the moment we walked in the front door we were glad we picked Los Compas. It's not a fancy place, but it is very welcoming. Chris greeted us with a smile and told us we could sit anywhere. They have a great menu selection. We chose the Carne Asada plate and a bowl of menudo. Both plates were great even though I like my menudo with a little more chili kick. Thanks Chris for the brief history of the city and of the key city attractions. We'll be back before we leave. One of the absolute best and truly authentic Mexican restaurants. Ordered a chicken burrito and what set in front of me was a 10" burrito completely filled with chicken, beans and rice and all things nice. Same for the red sauce, sour cream and guacamole that covered it. Was greeted and served with friendly and fast service. We were in town for the morning & decided we'd try out a local restaurant for an early lunch. Upon arrival, we were advised to just grab a seat. I decided on Carne Street Tacos & I added a side of beans & rice. My husband ordered their Los Compas Burrito with ground beef & red sauce, there was a green chili option also. The chips were some of the best tortilla chips I've had at any restaurant, very light & super tasty. The salsa was also quite delicious & I loved that I could taste the freshness of the veggies & we ate most of it. Our food came out super fast & the portions were sizable. The rice flavor was different then most Mexican restaurant rice. It had some peas, green beans & carrots in it which was interesting & I welcomed the change. It was the same with the refried beans, I've eaten many sides of refried beans, but the flavor of these were on point. Lastly, the tacos were the star! The tortillas were soft & delicious, there were pinto beans which added a nice texture & the tomatillo sauce was some of the best I've had. We were VERY pleased with our meals. I took home some leftovers & as I was eating them I told my husband that I felt like all the food flavors were what I would have expected from a grandmothers kitchen, he agreed wholeheartedly. It tasted as though there was care & thought put into every aspect of my dish. So, if you're ever in Cañon City, I would highly recommend stopping in & ordering some great Mexican food. While on a road to Florence we were craving Mexican food. I had the chicken enchiladas ala crema, they were very tasty, the cream sauce had broken but it didn't affect the taste. My husband had the Mexican chicken enchiladas and they were delicious. Each plate comes with rice and beans. The beans were amazing, as for the rice itself, I'm not a fan of vegetables in Mexican rice but that's just my preference. Visiting Canon City for the Halloween Haunted house, stopped here to eat. I read several other reviews and they said the food was good. The place itself is very basic, very colorful with a few "Mexican" art features. Nothing fancy. That being said the Mexican Food is why you come here - very tasty. I had the "street tacos"; beef and chicken along with a Margarita on the rocks. (good but a little to much triple sec) The service was good; very pleasant older lady. Cute place in Canon City with very good Mexican food! The Asada Burrito and Cheese & Onion Mexican Enchiladas with added Mole sauce was delicious, as well as the rice and beans. My only disappointment, and it's just a personal preference, was the mole... it's sweet and I prefer savory. I should have asked, but it's rare to see both or sweet served. Also enjoyed a watermelon Margarita. Staff are very nice and we loved the 3 pre-printed and calculated options of tip to be added to the bill, plus private parking lot. Breakfast was needed after camping for 5 days and finally washing off and resting in a comfy hotel bed. Got a couple egg and bacon and sausage that was topped with cheese and a side of hash browns. This is a great deal for $5.50. All the sandwiches were delicious. Also got a bean and cheese burrito that my daughter said beans were good, but the tortilla tasted store bought (that's in our SA genes). The place from the outside looks like a hole in the wall but when you walk in it opens up and is nice. Not sure if the owner has specific guidelines for the AC because it was warm but not super uncomfortable. If you are going to keep it that warm the margaritas need more ice. TLDR - best mexican I've ever had! This restraunts is tucked away as an unasuming spot a mile away from the royal George train ride. My fiancé and I decided to just give this place a try without expecting too much. We started off with the house chips and salsa. I could eat that salsa everyday if I could. I ordered soft shell pollo Chipotle tacos and he ordered pollo enchiladas. The heartiest and most delicious plates arrived infront of us. They were tangy, spicy and just the right amount of fresh!
