Yes, the food is very expensive and unseasoned. We should've found a way to get the Taco Bell that we originally wanted (it was drive through only and we had a U-Haul). I ordered two bean burritos for my boyfriend. For myself I got three ground beef soft tacos. The burritos are big. Tiny bit of cheese in each. They cost $6.25 apiece. To get onion you have to get the pico de gallo which is an extra $2.25 for EACH burrito. My beef soft tacos came with unseasoned ground beef and a little bit of cheese and lettuce. I paid an extra $2.25 for EACH of the soft tacos to have sour cream. Well, when we got back to our hotel room, we find that none of the burritos or soft tacos had the pico de gallo or sour cream. So there's $11.25 down the drain. Maybe they do have good things on their menu but don't get either of these. The total was a little over $36 and of course they had a tip jar so I put a few dollars in. Please do not waste your time here. read more

I have been told by several people that even though El Reynaldos is in a gas station it is really good. So I finally went there one morning when my normal breakfast burrito spot was closed. They do have a drive thru - which is awesome (although it can get really backed up during certain parts of the day). Ordered 2 bacon breakfast burritos. Took about 10m to get, which was fine as they were very busy. They were super expensive for what they were - almost $8 each and a sign that prices were going up in the next week. Burrito was very overcooked eggs, very mushy potatoes and crumbly undercooked bacon. It was not good. I ate a bit and couldn't do the rest. The salsa - especially the red - was good. I don't get the love (at least for breakfast). It was expensive and not great at all. I am giving 3 stars for the drive thru convenience and the fact that I only tried breakfast - which doesn't make me want to come back and try anything else. read more

Upon arrival I asked the young girl at the counter if the phones were working and she said no, then I explained what happened. We almost didn't stop here because we realized it was part of a gas station, and let me tell you, I'm SO happy we decided to give it a shot! We went through the drive thru, so I can't say what the inside looks like or if you can dine in. We were greeted quickly and politely in the drive thru. We both got the Chimichanga plate, and for the meat inside we got Adobada (shredded marinated pork). The chimichanga was HUGE! Smothered in a savory red sauce, guacamole, sour cream and lettuce, it's 1000% my new favorite thing here in Canon City. Plate came with rice and beans for about 10$, can't really beat it! Only thing I didn't love was the wait. After ordering it took just over 10 minutes, which isn't terrible in general but feels hella long for a drive thru meal. Let me start off by saying, this isn't the best looking restaurant, it's definitely a dive but I love their burritos! El Reynaldo's, former Alfonso's, is located inside the local ConocoPhillips. It has a drive thru and inside a little seating area where you can read the local newspaper or grab a brochure about a new place to go or tour. Being from Cañon City, this has always been the place to go for burritos, especially their breakfast burritos (my fav is bacon) that you can have all day long! The owners don't speak much English and are there to prepare your food and that's it. Some people from out of town, may not understand that so please, be aware and made known of that! To me, this place serves what it needs to. On to the food... Burritos baby! The only other non burrito food I've had here is their Carne Asada Fries which are amazing also, very big portion! The burritos are $6 and they are MASSIVE. Most of the time I cut in half and save some for later. They don't skimp out on the ingredients either. You'll never have to ask for extra of anything. Whenever one is on a road trip, Yelpers wonder where they can find their next great meal. I'm so happy that the iPhone pointed us here - I don't think it was a Yelp review that landed us here - I was driving, my navigator took us here. Most of my group was turned off by the fact that the place was in a chain gas station and looked like it occupied a spot where you'd find any fast food joint. The homemade food pics on the menu, Spanish behind the counter and my stoic desire to believe the positive reviews online kept the group here for our road-lunch. What yummy foood! Decent quality ingredients it seemed, but not top-notch. Prepared to a very tasty level though, which is really the goal! Most people in group ordered meat products, the quesadilla which our vegie ordered seemed adequate but uninteresting. The crunchy tacos had fresh fried shells! I was kinda jealous that I wasn't eating that item. I had a traditional carne asada taco (i.e. soft corn shell) and chilie verde - not the best CV I've had, but quite good, and the tortilla which came with it was legit. Notes - if you eat there, don't take the little sauce tubs, they have squirt bottles. The red sauce is spicy, but not very. The green sauce is not hot. As others noted, they prepare everything to order more or less, so it takes a while to get your food. This ain't no Taco Bell. Downsides - everything is packaged in polystyrene, a current necessary evil of a small business, but I ended up with two boxes and felt pretty guilty. My advice - EAT HERE. Order whatever you normally like or whatever sounds most yummy. If you can bring yourself to do it, don't be a vegetarian on this stop. read more

I have been eating here for 3 years now. The food is ok, sometimes really good (depends who is cooking). The women that work there are awesome and happy. The 2 brothers (owners?) Are always talking shyt in spanish. I let it go and let it go. Today i asked for a burrito without the guacamole or lettuce and the brother that wss cooking in the back started talking shyt. Alfonso's has great breakfast burritos! I've had them multiple times and they have been great every time. Unfortunately, that's all I've had at Alfonso's. I guess I forget about it when it comes to lunch and dinner. It is in the same building as a gas station, so it's not exactly a sit down restaurant. Every time I've had their food, I've gone through the drive through. The down side of Alfonso's is the speed. It takes quite a long time to get your food. This place hit the spot at the time but burritos $6.50ish for a giant burrito) and horchata (inexpensive and free refills) are the only good deals. Two tacos are $2.50 by themselves but it's $9 for 2 tacos with rice & beans ?! A soft drink may have come with that. But when you're starving & your local niece really wanted to go here you just try to be thankful! But seriously a gas station taco joint shouldn't cost $38 for two beef tacos with beans & rice ($9.05?), 2 soft drinks (no free refills available- 1 with meal I think cuz I asked if the meals included a drink and he claimed yes & 1 @ ~ $2?), 2 lg horchatas (1 free refill obtained) ~3.50?, 2 fish tacos ($2.50?), 2 burritos (~$13) ... They just went down a star cuz I'm pretty sure the menu prices are not what we were actually charged and we didn't get an itemized receipt of course. Let me start by saying I like weird so this may not be the place for everyone. We stuck to the basics as we had no idea what to expect. What we got were fresh ingredients- a whole half lime with my tacos - friendly and patient service (no joke there are a minimum of 40 items to choose from) as we perused the extremely extensive menu and the fun of eating at 1 of maybe 3 small tables in the middle of a gas station! Full disclosure I stayed away from the beans - just in case - however there were no repercussions after eating here which is a win in my book! read more

Yes this place is in a gas station. The name is actually El Raynolds. It is next door to Victory Defense. Anyways, more on the latter later. My husband was weary because of the fact they are in a gas station. I felt like pulling teeth just to get him in. And I succeeded!!! I won that one. I ordered #2, tostada and beef taco. He got #9, two beef tacos. Very very good. But unfortunately I have to give them a thumbs down; their tacos are greasy and will leave an oily mess when you pick them up. If you hate that oily feeling, order something else. Now for the good, and I mean good points; the tostada and taco shells are cooked perfectly, literally. Slight brown to them and crunchy, even with the refried beans. My new favorite menu item so far. Another bonus point is they open at 7am and will serve breakfast all day long and close at 11pm. Guess they only need 7 hours sleep. An awesome thing is my husband is more than willing to come back for more. Thank you Yelpers. You did well. So yes I'm highly recommending this place. read more

First, let me say I think the food here is pretty good but I would love to see some cheaper options on the menu. I've been several times because I like the drive-thru option. But this is no drive-thru like in Colorado Springs I am used to. Pricing here is more like a regular restaurant. They do have seating inside but it is located inside a gas station. I would love to see some more affordable options. Example - I wanted a plain bean burrito but all they had was a giant $6 bean burrito. I think if they could downsize some of their portions and pricing they would strike a nice balance between restaurant and drive-thru filling the void of cheaper 24-hour taco stands that don't exist in Cañon City. read more

This is the second time I've been to this place while visiting family through the years. You wouldn't expect food of this quality to be in the corner of a gas station. This is some of the most amazing mexican "fast food" I've ever had. My wife and I love getting the breakfast burritos when we visit. Steak, bacon, ham, eggs, potatoes and it's phenomenal. Are all these previous reviewers crazy? This place is so bad. Never mind that it's in a gas station. Who cares? Good food can come from anywhere (for example food trucks!). How about the fact they are unsanitary and the food is subpar. Especially for this area of the country. Firstly, the fellow there was mopping the floor, then came to take my order (using the register) then starts making the food, right where I can see him, having NOT WASHED HIS HANDS! He touched my tortilla several times with my his unclean fingers. (The tortilla was a side item and I didn't eat it.) Then he puts a plastic glove on one hand and proceeds to microwave my entree before placing it in the to-go container with some rice and beans. At this point the place already deserves one star in my mind. However, I figure I'm tired and hungry, been on the road for hours and I don't want to find another place to eat, or argue for my money back. So I take the food. The high point is that the refried beans are great. That's the end of the good stuff. The chile rellenos were almost inedibly spicy, probably because they didn't clean out the seeds like they should have. Based on the appearance, taste, texture, and what I witnessed at the counter these were obviously breaded and fried at least hours earlier, then reheated in a microwave, resulting in a soggy oily wrapping on the chiles. The enchilada sauce over them tasted almost of nothing, yet was again too spicy (not flavorful spicy, just heat spicy). I also had a tamale on the side, and this item was also reheated in a microwave. It was dry and not very flavorful. Completely mediocre. My friend had a burrito and said it was "fine but bland". I don't know why anyone is giving this place 4 stars unless they are smoking crack. Go anywhere else. read more
