A Tex-Mex restaurant. What could be more cliché than that in Texas right? Why even bother trying to find a decent spot because they are all the same right? Well, Los Cucos strives to break that stereotype and mold, and on my visit, they did just that. The ambiance of the place is great straight from walking in. You are prompted greeted and seated, and there is plenty of space so you don't have the feeling of sharing your chips and salsa with the table next to you. Speaking of chips and salsa, my girls did not stop eating or raving about how good the chips, and specifically, the green salsa was. I had to check to see if they had all fingers at one point. With them that enthused about the complimentary appetizer, I was worried that the entree would disappoint. Yet, why would I think as such? This place has such a large variety, to whereas they have to be good, and they will find something to suit your palette's fancy. There are soups, salads, nachos, quesadillas, stuffed avocados, chimichangas, enchiladas, burritos, platters, etc., etc.! There is surely something there to peak your interest. I looked at the prices and realized that with the pricing this reasonable, the portions will be small. I already planned on getting my un-Tex-Mex fill by stopping at Taco Bell. I was definitely wrong. The portion sizes are plenty. My girls didn't speak much during the entree, and I had to ensure they were breathing in between gulps. They both did stop long enough to ask me to try some of my food. The kids sized quesadilla was plentiful, especially with fries and rice. The same goes with the kids sized shrimp. I had the house specialty: Fajitas a la Cucos. That was chicken and beef fajita meat covered with sautéed mushrooms, fresh onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro and Los Cucos Sauce. I must admit, I definitely appreciated tasting fresh garnish and fresh toppings. You can tell that this stuff wasn't sitting around for hours. From the smells alone coming from that sizzling grill, you know you had freshness. The taste did not disappoint. My girls echoed my sentiment. On the way home they thanked me for such a delicious meal and stated they were full many times. Dinner at Los Cucos includes great pricing, portions and taste. Los Cucos does Tex-Mex right! Fatman approved and frugal meter approved. Note: They have menu items that are not listed on the menu! Ask you waiter what secret and/or popular items that you don't see on a very extensive menu. Los Cucos Old Katy sat down ordered small queso & queso flamido with beef for appetizer. Then we ordered the Jalisco Plate for 1. Sat there for a good while and here come the main course no appetizers. So we asked where appetizers were waiter oh I forgot to put them in do you still want them. Yea we do so he proceeds to leave the main course there to get cold. Asked for a manger he takes main course back says we will remake it when your ready let me know. So we then get our appetizers. We are about finished and waiter says are y'all ready we said please remake it but box it up to go we have waisted to much time. Within a couple minutes they are bringing it to the table not boxed up so no way did you remake the main course. We asked to speak with the manager again when we got our bill and to discuss the situation as nothing was removed from our bill. Waiter comes back I can't find the manager do you only have one manager no response. We said remove the main course keep it and charge for appetizers which to me was still crap. We wait over 10 minutes for this finally to see them talking behind the bar and we walk back there and tell the manager what the deal Is and he said well I had to take care of something I said are you the only manager here his response is no. At the end of all of this we paid over $26 for screwed up appetizers and dang sure we're not paying for a main course that wasnt redone. Mind you we have been coming here a lot. Tonight is the last time. Funny thing is right in front of us the manager called out his waiter that he's been screwing up all day. This place is one of those little hidden gems. It's easy to miss if you're driving by but trust me you'll want to discover Los Cucos if you haven't already. As far as Tex Mex goes the quality of food is really solid, the service is very respectable, and the drink prices are beyond reasonable. Do yourself a favor and go by there. Sad as the drinks were pretty pricey.The place is always super noisy, which we used to alleviate by asking to sit in the room on the right but they won't sit us in there anymore so even if there's just a few tables with people, it gets to be way too noisy to chat.The food was just ok.The chimis are never crispy anymore but the green sauce is fairly good.Both recent visits had TONS of flies buzzing around the windows and were annoying us. We went there today around 11am wanting to get breakfast and got the news that they don't serve breakfast anymore. BUT the manager Manuel went out of his way to make us breakfast and pretty much what we wanted. The food was delicious and the service was so VIP. Our server was Lalo . I'm not sure how often they do this but I wanted to show my appreciation of how good we were treated. I know this spot is a local favorite. Probably because for a longtime this was the only full-service, sit down Mexican restaurants in Old Katy. But there are sooooooo many better choices nearby. Even the Los Coco's in the Katy Mills Mall parking lot is better. I was there for a late Saturday lunch and there was a pretty consistent flow of patrons. Service was lackluster and robotic, though they did keep my soft drink filled. The interior is large but starting to look shabby and run down. The Del Rio Enchiladas were supposed to be filled with shrimp and crab -- though I was hard-pressed to find a few microscopic pieces of crab meat. The flour tortilla encasing the two enchiladas were gluey. However, the Frijoles Charros were seasoned well and comfortingly warm. Would go to Taco Cabana or nearby Midway BBQ before coming back. read more

I just walked out with my wife and we went somewhere else. My complaint is they have the music so loud on one side you can't hear and when you ask to sit on the other side your flat told no. Ah, Los Cucos. After leaving Houston 10 years ago I was delighted to return to a former date-night favorite. On this visit, I was flying solo and sat at the bar. I highly recommend the bar Happy Hour menu for both food and drink. It's hard to beat a big, cold Marg in a frosty class on a hot, humid Houston afternoon. The food selections on the Happy hour menu provide the best value. I had half a quesadilla and 4 HUGE (YUGE!) shrimp stuffed fried jalapeños for about $12. Both items were served piping hot. The service was fast and friendly. Both the Astros and The Rangers were on the TVs, and the A/C was blowing cold. Highly recommended! read more

Disappointing.... Everything here is just average to below average. I ordered the beef fajitas for one. They were served on a sizzling platter. The fajitas were hot, but that was about it, no flavor and were overcooked. The rice is also served on the same sizzling iron skillet, you had best eat it quickly or it will be burned and stuck to the platter as mine was. The chips and salsa was just average, the red sauce was served hot and the green was served cold. The same as you would get at most places. Service was just Ok, basically they do the bare minimum, just enough to get by. Nope, will not be coming back here. Lots of Mexican restaurants in the Katy area with better food and service. Side Note: If you have AT&T you will not be able to get a phone signal inside the restaurant. They have unlocked guest wifi but I was unable to connect to it. read more

Driving home after Thanksgiving in Houston, we were hungry and wanted to grab something before our only option was gas station food. We found this place and it had a 3 star average on Yelp. I guess I'm a bit of a food snob now and don't usually go to places where the consensus is less than 4 stars but we were hungry and went there. I was very pleasantly surprised. They served 2 salsas - a warm fire roasted one and a cold creamy cilantro/tomatillo one. I requested corn tortillas in lieu of the chips and they were happy to oblige. My husband and I split a platter FOR ONE because we're both trying to watch our portions and keep the waist lines in check. We ordered a fajita dish that had enough food for 2 hungry people or 3 not so hungry people -- seriously. Everything on the platter was really tasty. Our dish had fajita chicken breast with a really good butter/garlicy sauce; fajita beef, which was tender and flavorful; grilled fish, which was very mild and delicate with a good char grilled flavor; grilled jumbo shrimp, in a yummy scampi-esque sauce; and finally pork (what you would imagine pork carnitas tacos to have in them). Every single thing was delicious. I had 2 full tacos and my husband had 2 as well and we still brought home enough food for him to eat for dinner tomorrow. They were generous with their grilled onions, pico de gallo, and guacamole. It also came with cheese, which I didn't add to anything. We ordered double beens instead of the rice and beans and they were fine -- nothing to write home about though. In conclusion - I think this place is worthy of a repeat visit and we will take our family back there with us next time. You should definitely give Los Cucos a try. Well, we just had a big order for Christmas at work. My order was simple, I ordered the parillada, it comes with fajitas,beef/chicken, bbq ribs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and stuffed poblano pepper. I ordered mine with only the beef fajitas, NOT ALL FAJITAS. Why would I order a parillada with only fajitas. I called to explain to them what happened, and to fix their mistake. no help from anyone, even the manager said I ordered wrong. and did not make any attempts to fix it. In my job I handle customer issues all day long, and I always try to fix it. This place I guess is not concerned about their customer service. Well they just got the last of my money. Bad Service What I am also seeing is that there are several complaints about management and service, and for some reason management response is only given to the easy good reviews. why not be a good manager and face the bad reviews as well. maybe training is needed from top to bottom. except for the ladies making the tortillas, that was the only good thing about my order. read more

I am so terribly disappointed in this establishment. I lived in San Antonio for years and Los Cucos was in my top three restaurants, not necessarily being number three. The location in San Antonio eventually closed so when I moved to Katy I was extremely excited to learn that there is a couple of the of locations in the area. I've always ordered the same item, Pollo Del Mar. I was terribly disappointed. It's a $17.99 and it was so dry, and so overcooked that it was not edible. I remember it having an amazing sauce on top, enough to use on your rice also, however, there was no sauce on my dish.and I checked the menu again after I was unhappy with my meal to make sure I had ordered the right thing. Also, the chicken is supposed to be stuffed with shrimp, mine had two very small shrimp that were rubbery from being overcooked and not edible. I did not complain, the waitstaff was anything but attentive therefore, I had given up on the entire experience by the time I could have given a complaint. I don't think we will be going back here, we have to budget to have dinners out and our tab was over $70 for two dinners and two drinks each. I am hoping that by me posting this review, management will step up and save their business, or perhaps I just caught them on a bad night. Such a letdown. We won't be returning. read more

The saddest part of this entire review is that I gave them so many opportunities to make things right and Manuel didn't!! I have been going to this restaurant for 20. Yes 20 years. It's was my husband and my first date place so it WAS special. But this last time was it. The food and service had been going down some what but it was still our place so we kept going. Well two weeks ago we order from here for pickup from Miguel and when my husband picked up our order and brought it home, part of it was missing. I immediately called and Miguel said they would refund it. He even called a few hours later to get our cc information to refund it. Well that never happened. I called the following Monday to see what was going on. Spoke to Manuel the manager he stated Miguel had no right or privileges to refund anybody and that he would speak to him that night and straighten it out and make sure the refund was put back on my card. He even stated he was going to fire Manuel because he keeps trying to take a managerial position and is just a cashier. I told him I did not want to cost anyone their job he said it's not you he's been messing up for a while. He said he would return my call and let me know the status. Two days later still had not heard from Manuel called him and asked him what the status was. He said oh Miguel's been off but he'll be here tonight. I'll speak to him tonight and call you tonight or tomorrow. That never happened. No one ever called no refund nothing. I'm not in the business of paying for something I don't get it just doesn't make sense. I'm very disappointed I will not ever return here even as sentimental as this place is to me. . They absolutely need to get new management and make it the way it used to be. As far as the food goes, it was absolutely unbelievably below standards. The fried rice was soaked in oil, the Carnitas were nothing but fat, and, of course, part of our food missing. I hope this makes it to the right place, and it really breaks my heart to have to put this post review, but how else do things get fixed. read more

Have been a frequent customer over Covid as one of the available dine-in restaurants. Went in again this week with my boys $70 bill $77 after taxes. Paid cash with five twenties. Waiter came back with the extra 20 I gave him and three ones. Asked if I needed change without putting the money down on the table, I told him yes, break the twenty. Waiter walked away and never returned to the table. My son watched thinking it was a cash in hand issue, even seeing the manager make an inquiry. Sat at the table for ten mins waiting for change that never came before leaving. Sound like theft of my change, right? Now the reasoning, waiter did a great job and with the Covid hardships send him a bone right? Twenty percent would be $14 plus a couple extra $16-17. So the actual theft was $6 rather $23. Could care less about the $6, more amazed that the waiter decided his own tip? Every person in the business knows when someone over pays with larger bills they are asking for change for the tip. I could have left $80 and a three dollar tip, right? Lesson don't pay with cash lol Will be taking my business to the other Mexican restaurants in town. read more

This place is sooooo good! There are no bad choices! That said, the cheese enchiladas are best In Texas. You may have to wait a bit to get a table (come early) but it's worth it! The salsas, both Red and Green are wonderful! My personal favorite is the green! Sooo thick and flavorful, I'd come here just for that. The Mexican rice is the best in town, nice and sticky like it should be, and I always order the Chili Con Queso( cheese with Chili's) to add to my rice because that's the (Uh Uh) I like it! The Chili Con Queso here does NOT come out of a can. They make fresh every day. Try finding that anywhere else. I always order the Family Sampler Plate even though ill end up taking most of it home . The Iced Tea is fresh , the guacamole is too! Great for families and first dates! read more
