For a dog park it's one of the bigger parks I've been to. It has both a large and small dog side. Both sides have water and 2 poopie bag dispensers. Because of the recent rain ,I did not detect any pee smells. Each side has half dirt and half fake grass.while there the people were friendly.one lady even took some time to pet my dog, which he loves . It's a small park but it has lots of hills and inclines to get that heart rate going! Plus the views are gorgeous. There is a small parking lot but tons of street parking since it's located in a quiet neighborhood. There are restrooms. Next door to the park is a playground and a dog park. One of the things I love about this park is the abundance of woodpeckers! It makes me smile every time I see them. :)

This park is awesome if you are a jogger that likes to run/walk around the loop over and over…read moreagain, like me and just because :) I found the best exercise that works for me since the pandemic hit is walking. Walking is the most under rated exercise ever yet, all you need is your sneakers and trousers, and apple watch/fitbit to count your steps. This park is huge compared to the one that close to my house. Also, if you walk around the loop you would see a bridge and will connect to the other park across the highway. My kids were elated to find another park across the highway since the park in the original Kevin Moran Park was quite small for them. The whole experience was nice, we found two share and give book drawers, where people put books inside and free for public to take. Parking is on the street, but since this park is a neighborhood park, there's always parking spots available.

Ulistac Natural Area is a great lil spot for running along the trails, bird watching, and observing nature. It's not exactly the season for seeing birds around, or trees and flowers in bloom, as winter is far from over, but on this warm Sunday afternoon, we still found the whole place to be beautiful. We strolled along the different pathways, read the educational boards, learned about the surrounding vegetation, and shared interesting conversation as we passed by birdhouses in trees and plants with funny names. We saw some California coffeeberry, sticky monkeyflower, California buckwheat, California Wildrose (just the thorns for now), and the only color during the winter season coming from the bright pink island mallow flowers (which bloom in late winter) and red toyon berries (lots of this to be seen here). We also saw random mushrooms and lots of sage among the plants and wildlife. My favorite part was spotting the rabbits in the sage, and watching these adorable long-eared cottontails run around (we saw at least 3-4 of them). It's a small nature preserve, but still plenty to see and appreciate, even in the winter. And for runners, it connects to other trails so there's no shortage of space for getting active around here.

The soccer field was there before, but it's fenced in and the turf looks more professional and meticulous now. The basketball courts were also there before and are pretty much the same. The pickleball courts are either new or converted from tennis courts, though they still have tennis too. There are also covered picnic/BBQ areas as well, and a playground which is small-ish and hasn't really expanded from 10-15yrs ago when we used to come. But it's a fairly large, well planned area that has more facilities (tennis, basketball, soccer, pickleball) than many parks in the area. The grass, while mowed, has a lot of weed type plants though - it's not great grass in the normal area, which makes it not something you'd want to walk barefoot on or walk your dog if he has longer hair. At least this time of year when there were a lot of sticky burrs, which embedded themselves deeply between the pads of our dog's fur, which was a pain to clean up. But as parks go, this is a pretty good one.

I felt nostalgic pulling up pictures we took here over 10 years ago. Both our daughter and our dog had grown so much! She learned biking without training wheels at this park, took some soccer classes, and had a lot of fun flying kites here... Parking on the street was easy. We're surprised so many people were playing basketball and pickleball when we arrived. The four pickleball courts looked pretty new. The gazebo was still here, but the table area in front of it looked new. We didn't venture into the soccer/playground/restroom areas this time. After walking our dog around a bit, we put beach towels on the lawn and had our picnic. It was such a nice big area with beautiful trees around. The whole park was very well maintained. We didn't realize the lawn was all covered by plants with burrs, though. Before we left we had to spend quite a bit of time carefully removing all the burrs caught in our dog's fur, as well as, shaking them off the beach towels. The weather was nice and we had a good time.

The only downside is if you come in through the prospect road entrance there isn't a lot of parking spots, so it's all about luck and timing. This is my go-to local hike!…read more I love that this trail is near to many things and I can go for a nice long (or short) hike within half an hour from where I'm at. While parking can be tough if you go a bit later on the weekends, it's pretty easy to find parking on the weekdays - just make sure you don't park in the employee spots near downtown LG! I love that I can vary the length of the hike just by choosing different trails to take. On days that I have more time and the weather is nice - I take the long trail and soak in the beauty. On days where I'm a bit more rushed or the weather isn't as good - I can do a quick up and back down then head on my way. Afterwards, a short walk takes you to downtown LG with lots of options for shopping and eating! A very nice place to hang out with friends/a date after a good jaunt into nature. And if you're here on Sunday - there's the farmers market to enjoy as well!
