We had a wonderful visit to this park yesterday. It is not big but there there are some beautiful vistas and scenery. I think I saw 5 families getting professional photos being taken and I can see why. I feel bad for all the residents in the neighborhood with the traffic and parking this park generates.

PARKING small lot inside the hiking entrance or a lot of residential street parking. This residential area is nice meaning big homes and it feels safe. PARK itself has short hiking trails perfect for someone like me who doesn't like hiking. You can easily do a ten to fifteen minute hike. Gopher holes around. Bathroom present. Trash cans at the entrance present. Saw squirrels. Somewhat of a view at the peak of a hill which was not very steep at all. Dog park present if you hike to the left of the parking lot. Kids playground area available too that's fenced off from the main park area. People here walking around were nice! Definitely not a scary unsafe feel nor grumpy people that I came across. Dogs definitely hiking around including my husky.

Somewhat shaded, the north side goes up a hill with very little shade, south has more shade and is flat. Lots of birds and ground squirrels. The path is decent, stroller friendly. The south side links with another park where there is a dog park and 2 playgrounds (good for under 3 and over 5). Bathrooms look clean. There's about 9 parking spots and plenty of street parking.

A great find that is such a short drive away. The wife and I wanted to check it out as a potential place for her to take pics with clients, so we only walked a short bit on one of the trails (there appear to be a few going in all sorts of directions). Even on our short stroll, we found a super cool rock to climb up on, natural stairs leading up to a viewpoint with different bench areas, and a ton of cool trees to take pics of. Plus it's dog friendly! We saw a bunch of people walking their pooches. Others were also there to take pics. Runners were working their way through the trails. Seems there's something for everyone. Not sure how far back the trails go or really everything the park has to offer, but we are planning to come back soon to explore more.

Love this place! It's truly is a hidden gem with all the oak trees and birds! The trails are clean as well with some incline and stairs if you like to do some cardio. You can also birdwatch as well as we saw a few folks doing that. Overall, a beautiful, peaceful park. You can also cross the street at the end of the park to the Almaden Lake and continue the walk there. Note: everyone wore masks and socially distanced! Yay!

I absolutely love this place. This park is located in the Almaden Valley tucked between neighborhoods and away from the hustle and bustle of busy streets and buildings. You can park on the street and walk in or you can drive in to park your car. There are bathrooms right next to the parking lot with water fountains. The trails are very well maintained. There is a large flat loop that is mostly shady. It is a pretty wide dirt path that may get a little muddy after rain but it's never too bad. While it is a dirt path, I have definitely seen some wheelchairs, strollers, and motorized scooters/chairs easily moving on the path. There are occasional sightings of deer and bunnies with plenty of birds in the trees. The park is also DOG FRIENDLY (just remember to pick up after them to keep the park clean). My favorite part of the park is the large hill that leads to a new and beautiful bench at the very top. While it may be a pretty long and steep hill, the view at the top is well worth it. Across from that hill is another hill with steps also leading to a beautiful view. These steps are a slightly awkward depth and vary in height. If you would like to bypass the steps you can travel up the same hill from the backside where there is a slight incline but no steps at all. There are also newer steps to the left (facing the steps). At the top of this hill seems to be a popular tree for tree carvings. I find it very amusing looking at some of the older and newer carvings. Be careful going down either hill and watch for holes in the ground. P.S. After a rain, the hills are all green. =]

Upon my first time here, public parking is a problem. Their is only 10 spaces (so good luck) park outside on the street. It's in a residential neighborhood so that is also limited parking. However once you overcome that difficulty the park is very good and the bathrooms are in excellent condition. Very peaceful and perfect for a good relaxing walk.

Whenever we want to get our girls (6 & 8) out of the house this is one of the places that we like to come. This is a very large park with a walking trail that loops around it. The trail has branches where you can stay on flat land or go up hills (or stairs) to get more of a workout and see some of the beautiful views. Along the trail there is a playground with play structures for little ones and bigger kids. We always see lots of birds, animals and flowers along the way which keep the kids entertained. On a few trips we saw woodpeckers in the trees. The trail is 50% shaded so on warm/hot days I would recommend that you bring water particularly if you have little ones in tow. There is a bathroom at the end (or beginning) of the trail depending on which direction you start your walk. The parking lot is very small so if you are not lucky enough to get a spot, you will have to park on the street near the entrance.

    Nice Shady Parking Lot

This is one of the more interesting City parks I've encountered. I'm not sure how to classify it because it's not a neighborhood park or a regional park; it's just a straight up old school park exactly how Mother Nature intended: dirt and trees. Fortunately, I have reconnoitered it just for you, fellow Yelpers, and here is my full report: 1) Parking lot and restroom- There are multiple entry points located around the park that can be accessed from the adjoining streets; I prefer to enter from the Thorntree Dr entrance where the parking lot and restroom are located. 2) Trails- This park is all about one thing: trails, trails and more trails! It has flat trails, hilly trails and steps. I didn't encounter any that I found particularly difficult, but I'm an experienced hiker. I took my (almost) 3-year-old son there and he was able to keep up with me for the most part; I only had to carry him down one set of stairs that were just a bit too steep. 3) Views- The views from the top of the highest hills are nice and there are some well-placed benches in case you want to sit and soak it all in. You get some good views of Mt. Um, Almaden Valley and I could even see the Campbell Water Tower from there. Not the best views I've ever encountered but worth the trip. 4) Jefferey Fontana Park - The south end of GOGP is bordered by Jeffrey Fontana Park, which has some nice features for people that might be using the trails; there's a dog park and a children's playground conveniently placed. As I stated earlier, if you like a no-frills park, that's all about the trails this place is for you. There are trails to suit everyone from the inexperienced to the experienced. I would highly recommend bringing your children here. It's a great place to introduce them to hiking. The only thing keeping it from being a 5-star is it's a pretty small park, and I was able to see most of it in less than 1.5-hours. I'm sure I could've done it a lot faster if I was by myself, but a Toddler will slow you down like that. If you want a great hike in the South San Jose area, I'd recommend Almaden Quicksilver, Santa Teresa County, or Calero County; if you're looking for something quick and easy, this is the spot for you.

    Loops to do cardio
    Rob G.

Short drive from anywhere in San Jose, this park provides loops on hilly areas to get your heart pumping . Desolate in fall, you can also bring your dogs on a leash for our furry friends to get some exercise beyond the neighborhood dog walk.

This is one of my favorite parks in San Jose. It has something for everyone: - flat trails for the less athletic - big hills for climbers - bike trails for the bicyclists - trails and bags for dog wakers There are bathrooms and a drinking fountain. I even saw a bowl by the drinking fountain that I assumed was for dogs. There are a lot of big oak trees here for some nice shade. There are some picnic tables. The hills have great views of the area. I love going here and sitting on rocks on the big hills looking at the beautiful scenery.

    Tire swing

Abstract: fun place to go but not at high noon There's very little shade on the trail itself so the sun is beating down on you. There's plenty of trees on the sides for a bit is respite though. We found a cool tire swing so that was fun. There's plenty of dogs on the trail but everyone is courteous so we've never stepped on any piles.

We saw 21 species of birds in 2 hours at this great little park. Beautiful live oaks dotted the landscape. I would visit again.

The park also offers a fun and inclusive space for children, with climbing structures, sturdy cement slides, swings for both toddlers and older youth, a see-saw, merry-go-round, trampoline, and spongy material making up the ground's surface. The occasional squirrel, lizard, and butterfly too. As an adult simply looking for a place to relax while waiting for my car at an auto shop nearby, I was pleasantly surprised to find this park accommodating. Dirt and concrete trails weaving through the garden, lovely vegetation in spring, and a good amount of picnic tables and benches scattered throughout. Also, a shady area with fake grass and seats made out of smoothed-out logs and tree trunks, as well as adirondack chairs where I was able to hang out and nap while I was there. It wasn't too crowded or crazy on a Friday morning, though it got busier as it neared noon time. In addition, the place offers a parking lot and clean restrooms for convenience.

It's not a park to have a hardcore hike but one could definitely get a good 'walk' in as the trails are easy and the crowd is generally comprised of locals from the neighborhood. I have successfully completed a 5 mile "hike" multiple times here -- just had to keep walking up and down, and all around. The park also has workout stations -- although, many of them are closed right now due to COVID19 but an average person could get a good cardio workout and get in some strength based exercises here (pull-up bars, etc.).
