    Pickleball Court
    Winston C.

John Mise Park has 4 pickleball courts with fairly active players. I had the opportunity to chat with some of the players -- extremely welcoming and polite. Most were educating us on the rules and proper etiquette. Very patient and understanding So there are 4 pickleball courts that usually has doubles (2 versus 2). Typically they play a game and rotate out with whoever is waiting. To get in line, place your paddles on the rack on the fence. With 2 players/paddles, you play the winner for that court. However, if you're waiting with a group of 4, then the entire group that plays has to rotate out after completing a game.

Great park for basketball, kids biking, and soccer. Huge nice soccer field where various groups can practice and play. Lots of trash cans, and picnic tables spread out. Some tables are in the open, some shaded by trees, and a nice set under a large canopy. Playground is okay, bark, 2 slides, several types of monkey bars, 2 swings.

On a recent Autumn weekend we were doing what we often do, driving around, running various errands with our pup in the back seat. She gets car sick. When she was younger the car would even start moving and her little snout would start to drip and she would shake uncontrollably before, well, I'll save you the messy part. As she gets older it has become much better. Still, when we're moving around too much, for too long, she starts to get the drippy nose and I know it's time to pause. So we were in West San Jose, driving on Moorpark when she wasn't looking so good and I remembered a public park up ahead at the intersection of Mitty. I didn't know the name of the place, but I knew the time to stop was now and a walk outside would be a good reset for CoCo. Pulling up I immediately realized this recreation area was much bigger than it appeared from the street. Looking up the details of John Mise Park on the official city website, it occupies 11.7 acres of land. There didn't seem to be a lot of parking for the size of the area, but we found a spot on this particular day. Getting out of the car there was a large multi-use fenced area covered entirely in artificial turf, currently set up for soccer. There were lots of kids playing unorganized pickup matches. With the World Cup happening at this time I wondered how many were imagining they could become the next Messi or Ronaldo. As we walked down the path flanking the soccer fields, toward the center of the park, there was an open space with trees and grass. This open space creates a large margin between the busy road and the other areas of the park, keeping the traffic noise away from the various activities. Under one of the trees somebody had set up a lawn chair and was reading a book. Books are the things we used to read for knowledge or entertainment before Teh Internets, TikToks and iDevices appeared. It was good to see somebody still knows how to use those, and that they even exist any more. I wonder if she also knows how to write in cursive, but I digress. Just over a small hill in the grassy area, was a homeless person who was not passing our dog's as of yet undisclosed set of criteria for determining friend or foe and she wanted off her leash to run him off. How she can make these decisions from 50 yards away I'll never know, but picking up a stick and throwing it distracted her enough to move on. Continuing, we noticed two playground areas. One looked like it was for the little tikes and the other for older kiddos. Next we spied public restrooms, and one thing I have learned from years of travel is this: if you see them use them. Don't need to? Yes, you do. Go ahead. Thank me later. I told my Mrs. this, and she complied. These restrooms were well maintained with running water. Not luxury level, but adequately functional and open during park hours which are sunrise to sunset. Consult your Farmer's Almanac or other source of such information for the exact times on the day of your visit. After we both used the facilities we continued through the park, coming upon a pickleball area with four courts which were all full of enthusiastic players and that unmistakable "thoik" of the racket striking the hollow ball. Everyone was smiling, almost laughing every time the ball was struck, because the sound is almost cartoonish and evokes joy. I'm certain that sound is most of the reason people play the game. I'm also told that living too close to a pickleball court can cause one to descend into madness or at least hard-to-control fits of anger due to the incessant sound of the ball at all hours. Next we came upon two full-sized and some additional half-sized basketball courts. Then there was an expansive picnic area with a large gazebo covering some permanent tables, some BBQ grills and uncovered tables. I don't know if these can be reserved or you have to get up before the sun and hold them for hours until your tribe arrives. Consulting the San Jose city website should tell you more. Completing the loop through the park, around the soccer field I noticed it had dugouts and could also be configured for baseball or softball, maybe even kickball? Arriving back at our vehicle eventually, I checked my watch and we had walked 0.4 miles. Not a bad little jaunt. Getting some air in the lungs, voiding the bladders, people watching and seeing what John Mise Park in West San Jose is all about was a good way to spend spend some downtime. CoCo was back to her bouncy self and we could continue on our journey. I'm glad we know this spot now, it's a good one.

This is a really nice park. It was super busy though...we saw a lot of folks playing soccer, badminton, cricket, and volleyball. Almost felt like pre-covid days. Wish more of them were wearing masks though. We ended up leaving pretty soon because of that.

Nice sports park the astro turf field is pretty big, my son plays flag football here on Friday nights Aa for the play ground for the little ones it is really small and not much for them to do, pretty basic and old. This park has basket ball court, i think i seen one bbq pit and there is a restroom in the front of the park. There's parking all around the park. over all the park is clean and the landscape is well-maintained.

    Good looking fields!

The field and bathrooms are always clean. Friday's are busy! Parking gets crazy so get here before 5! Different food trucks come on Friday.

What kind of park has a zipline?!? THIS ONE. Two seating options, one with a harness for toddlers,…read morethe other for older kids (I even saw adults using this). The park also offers a fun and inclusive space for children, with climbing structures, sturdy cement slides, swings for both toddlers and older youth, a see-saw, merry-go-round, trampoline, and spongy material making up the ground's surface. The occasional squirrel, lizard, and butterfly too. As an adult simply looking for a place to relax while waiting for my car at an auto shop nearby, I was pleasantly surprised to find this park accommodating. Dirt and concrete trails weaving through the garden, lovely vegetation in spring, and a good amount of picnic tables and benches scattered throughout. Also, a shady area with fake grass and seats made out of smoothed-out logs and tree trunks, as well as adirondack chairs where I was able to hang out and nap while I was there. It wasn't too crowded or crazy on a Friday morning, though it got busier as it neared noon time. In addition, the place offers a parking lot and clean restrooms for convenience.

The play garden has everything kiddos love -- slides, one seesaw, one round spinner, one rope climbing thing (that can also spin), swings (bucket and standard), small water play area, and a Zipline (one for little kids 3+ and one for older kids). They also have an area with tables, where someone was having a party (no idea if reservations are needed though). Expect to wait in line for a turn of the park is crowded. The play garden is fenced off from the rest of the park. They have a restroom on site. They have a small parking lot that is nearby the entrance of the play garden. I noticed some people parked on a smaller side street and walked over. I'm not sure what other parking options there are otherwise. We would return if we're in the area again and if it's less busy. It's a solid park and play area for those who live nearby.

Located inside Balboa Park, you can tour the museums in the area, but don't forget to stop and take a moment to smell the flowers at the Japanese Friendship Garden... There were so many beautiful birds, butterflies, koi, and plants I've never seen before. The grounds were very clean and well manicured. Pricing to get in was about $60 for a family of 4 (including student pricing for our children) which may be a bit steep if you have young children with thin patience.. however, if you are able to come in and find your Zen for a couple hours, this is the spot to do so. They offer free crafts for visitors- when we were there they were doing an origami workshop, which seemed very fun. However, our kids weren't up For it- so we did not participate. Would definitely visit again in the future!

It's not a park to have a hardcore hike but one could definitely get a good 'walk' in as the trails are easy and the crowd is generally comprised of locals from the neighborhood. I have successfully completed a 5 mile "hike" multiple times here -- just had to keep walking up and down, and all around. The park also has workout stations -- although, many of them are closed right now due to COVID19 but an average person could get a good cardio workout and get in some strength based exercises here (pull-up bars, etc.). Parking is easy as this park is aligned with a huge residential area. P.S. there are no public restrooms with the exception of seasonal porta potties so you should probably go before you plan on visiting. P.S.S. this park is popular for youngsters to "be youngsters" after hours so be cognizant if you're trying to plan a romantic date.
