Very excellent Mexican place in Newark, DE. Morelia, it's called. I got there a half hour before my date showed up, ordered a drink, and let the bartender know what I wanted. He assured me there would be no cilantro in anything I ordered. THIS guy was a pro. Taco Tuesday was half price on tacos. REAL tacos, mind you. Really good real tacos, to boot. So I kept ordering them to go with the 17 dollar margaritas I was downing. (Surprisingly worth the price of admission. Fresh lime juice and Maestro Dobel reposado.) I ordered 4 tacos at separate times over the course of the evening, as well as a bowl of queso with fresh, warm, corn tortillas for dipping (apparently i've never had authentic queso before, because this shit blew my fucking mind like nothing I've ever had), and I never mentioned my modifier again on any of those orders. Despite him being slammed with taco Tuesday customers, not one dish needed to be sent back. Why? Because he paid attention and cared enough to remember what I wanted, and he took the time to tell the kitchen to keep that nastiness out of my shit. Not like that glorified food runner doofus behind the bar at your gaudy "Mexican" corporate chain conglomerate "restaurant" owned by a tech-bro investment cap fund. Food was super bland. My rice and beans came out first and it was cold. Had to send it back. As you can see in the picture the shrimp don't have any seasoning on them. The plate was hot but not the actual food. The staff was friendly but I would not be visiting again. That was my first and last time there. read more

Our family has been dining at Morelia for 10+ years and the food never disappoints. We have several vegetarians in the family and this is one of the few places where there are numerous options and oftentimes hard to pick because it is all so good! Top vegetarian hits for us: Veggie No 3 platter, mushroom quesadilla, veg fajitas, veg chimichanga (meat are also equally delicious, especially fried), and veggie fajitas. The side of refried beans and rice are pure comfort food - I crave them now as I write this. Kids and adults that eat meat love the taquitos, tostadas, burrito ranchero (which I think has also been delicious made vegetarian). Kids have done quesadillas and tacos and there is never a complaint. We really love it here and consider Morelia the best of the best when it comes to Mexican food! read more

Traveling from NJ to DE to visit my stepmom, we made a tradition of eating at Morelia probably half a dozen times in recent years. The last time was 10/27/2024, and we vowed never to return. I'm not picky but even I found the ground beef in her taco to be mushy and tasteless, reminiscent of dog food. When I brought this to the waitress's attention, she said that's just the way it is and that she couldn't do anything about it. The manager came to our table to say the same thing, and offered no alternatives or refund. Another fun night for us at Morelia. Love the food, love the friendly staff, love the decor and weekly specials! Complimentary chips and salsa are served, and they have a house made hot sauce that is very spicy - if you like spicy they will bring this out upon request. The Wednesday special is enchiladas with your choice of meets or cheese, and choice of red or green enchilada sauce. It's served with Mexican rice, refried beans, and a side of sour cream. It's tough to beat the value. It was $35 for the two of us which included enchiladas (3) with chorizo, enchiladas (3) with shredded chicken, Pacifico (2), and a Margarita. We can spend that much at some fast food chains. It's consistently a really good spot when we're craving Mexican food. read more

We stopped here 2 weeks in a row because RJ was craving tacos. It's been 3 years since we first ate here, but after 2 more visits we can confirm that the margaritas are still a 5 and the food is a 2 or 3 at best. The first trip I ordered chipotle shrimp which didn't have much of a kick. The second time, I ordered Carne Asada and the meat was chewy and the rice was just flavorless. His tacos were just ok. Stopped in for lunch and was pretty impressed. The server immediately brought over chips and salsa. I did get charged when I asked for extra salsa for the chips. Walked into a cozy and very cultural restaurant. I really like that that was very authentic and tasty. We got a margarita start that's so good we already pitcher. The taco salad with shrimp was so tasty you could taste all of the flavor and it was plenty of meat and shrimp in it. The sampler was plenty of food flavorful and also very diverse. The shrimp enchilada have plenty of shrimp and the authentic enchilada sauce topped it off. The super taco had the moly moly sauce and that really pushed it over making a dish overall even more delicious. It felt like it was steal we got so much food for the price you couldn't beat it. It wasn't something just throwing together, it was delicious on down to the last grain of rice. This place is surprisingly good. Located in a strip mall, you would never know it's there. I got take out of the arrachera taco, chorizo taco, and guacamole appetizer. I was excited for the arrachera taco because it has skirt steak with fried onions and jalapeño. It was delicious- simple, yet flavorful. We've picked up dinner 2 times and each time the food was excellent! They had my order ready in the exact time they said, and so friendly - but best part is the food is always fresh and we feel good after eating here, so I know they are using fresh, clean products as I eat a very clean diet. Delicious authentic Mexican cuisine with good Tex-mex dishes as well! The tortillas are fresh, the margarita are wonderful, and the beer is cold. The waitstaff are very friendly and prompt. A pretty good spot for Mexican nearby the Christiana hospital and my office I order the chicken fajita burrito special lunch and it was quite large. I was really satisfied with how the chicken and fajita veggies were seasoned. Definitely better than don Pablos which is relatively close by near the mall. The atmosphere is pretty nice, the also gave free chips and salsa (standard) but they provide one mild and one spicy.. as a spicy lover I really appreciated the little extra kick in the spicy salsa! My mom and I were craving nachos, so we decided to give Morelio a try. It ended up being the worst food we've ever had! The salsa came out first; that should have been the first sign for us to leave. The salsa was dried out but also soggy and looked like it had been sitting out for days. We decided to order the beef nachos and 2 regular margaritas. The margaritas were warm and tasted too sugary. The cheese on the nachos was not melted, the lettuce was soggy, the chips were burnt, and the beef looked like cat food. We took about 2 sips and 2 bites and decided that we needed to leave. The service was not very sincere and the waitress seemed to be rushing us even though the restaurant was empty. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. Oh my goodness, where to start. I have been looking for not "good" but instead, My Goodness I'm better for having come here, GOOD mexican. Well... I found it. Morelia is my favorite mexican restaurant and their salsa verde goes great on everything. I often have issues with restaurants and their consistency but Not here. These guys and gals do a great time each time up. It is so good I keep waiting for The Food Network to show up with Diners DriveIns & Dives. It's just that good. The food is delicious and authentic. It isnt often overwhelmed with patrons, but when it is the service can slow up just a tad. That said its my favorite mexican food in the state, and should be yours. read more

I have been coming here for several years. I absolutely LOVED the staff, the atmosphere and most importantly the food. I am a bit disappointed on how my last several visits. A group of us (about 8) have been going on Friday nights faithfully for years now. Recently (over past few months) the management and attitude has shifted. The owners/management seem extremely annoyed and irritated by our presence. Non verbals speak volumes - this is definitely not a "I'm having a bad day" attitude. It appears more like we are a burden to them. For example, one visit the woman asked if we made a reservation?? Threw me back a bit - it's not a fine dining restaurant. I don't understand it. We are not a rowdy group, extremely low maintenance and spend a sizable amount. The waitstaff used to be extremely friendly and very personable. They are now extremely distant - as if they were instructed not to be bothered with us. Something has changed, but not sure what. Reading through these reviews, I unfortunately have to agree - the time waiting and sitting for drink refills, food and the check is astronomical. It is not the norm - it's more like an "i'll get to you when I get to you" kind of attitude. I struggle - as a part of me wants to leave and never go back. As a paying customer, I choose to bring my business to your restaurant. If you don't appreciate my loyalty and business - that is ok. I am sure another restaurant would love to welcome us next time. The last several weeks, I have felt completely devalued and unappreciated as a customer. A bit heartbreaking... Perhaps it's time to try a new place and give them time to work out whatever they are going through. I certainly DO NOT discourage you from going at all. Like I said, the food is delicious. This place was meh. There were some hits and some misses and I would say overall the food was bland. I had the shrimp tacos which the server told me was one of the most ordered foods. The shrimp was flavorful and the rice had good flavor to it but the beans, guac, and side dips were all bland. I also didn't care for the cheese which tasted like a more bland mozzarella. I also had the nachos trio and had queso, guac, and bean dip. The bean dip was a mix of pinto beans and cheese but had the consistency of milk which wasn't very appetizing for nachos. Bad experience tonight --hopefully just a one off. This is the note I sent to management: "I just want to drop you a note to let you know how disappointed I was in your restaurant earlier tonight. While the food was excellent and service adequate, I could not enjoy my dinner out with family due to the disruptive large party in the back tables near the kitchen. They were so loud at times we could not carry on a normal voice conversation. Totally ruined our dinner. I am shocked that you allow this type of disruptive atmosphere in an otherwise nice place. I am disappointed that you or your management did not keep the disruptive party in check. By te time we left, most other patrons had quickly left as well. You should really provide and ensure an atmosphere that is conducive to all, not just the loud drunken party of youngsters. I don't think I will be returning to your establishment anytime soon.
