"Food" was crazy overpriced. They are up to 3 times higher than a good Mexican restaurant. Small portions, cheese dip was firmer than cottage cheese. You will not eat, with a drink, under a minimum of 15-20 bucks. Go elsewhere. read more

Good but not great. Value is overall acceptable and the food is pretty good. The service here is fast and they are friendly. This is a quick lunch and is pretty good. The place is clean. The salsa tasted a little like chunky tomatoes from a can. It could've been better. If a piece of tomato in salsa is heavy enough to break my chip, you might need to chop it up some more! And put in a few onions and cilantro! Maybe a little spicy mix even? The enchiladas were good but not near as good as I've had other places. This place is the damn worst. Almost inedible, dingy, and awful margaritas. unimpressed to say the least. Crumbly dust stale chips, way too sweet margarita, mediocre salsa, ordered shrimp nachos inquired beforehand about veggies come with it was told yes and when dish arrived it was stale chips, a tiny amount of queso, shrimp you'd find on a winn-dixie shrimp ring but not de-veined, and NO VEGGIES. Our waitress apologized and advised we could purchase veggies for it but by that point we were done. Save your money and go to the Taco Bell next door. read more

I did not expect much from Los Mexicanos, and it met my expectations. The service was nice and the decor is surpringly pleasant as well. The food was typical Mexican food. We started with chips and salsa, but ordered guacamole and queso. The queso was actually the best part of our meal--oddly addictive. Two people I went with got fajitas. They looked and smelled great. The girls seemed to enjoy them. I personally ordered the Vegetarian Option #1. It was okay. The burrito was good, but the cheese enchilada tasted off like the cheese was bad or something. I wish it had come with pico de gallo and guac. If you're in the mood for Mexican in Oxford. This is a fine place to go. read more

The first thing I would say is that this does not resemble mexican food whatsoever! If I could give it zero stars, I would. I was born and raised in Southern California and have been exposed to some of the finest mexican food north of the mexican border. I still occasionally go with friends because they are big fans. I used to eat here every week when I went to OHS up until I graduated. Now that I live in the area again, friends want us to eat there for early dinner. I have to say I'm not sure what changed because I used to like the place pretty good, but nowadays it's seems a little sub par for me. The last couple times I went and ate, it wasn't great. So the most recent times I got roped into going by friends, I just decided I would eat the chips and eat a meal when I got home. It's not bad, but just not much better than good anymore. If you are going to eat there, the a la carte options are normally worth the cheapish prices. One thing they DO have going for them is the salsa and cheese dip. read more

Not authentic at all. Typically you know what you are getting from a Mexican food restaurant right away based off of the chips and salsa. Both were terrible. Store bought chips and tomato-spaghetti sauce style salsa. Margaritas were all mix and hardly no tequila; plus they were $9. We asked for spicier salsa and the waiter brought crushed up peppers that were the consistency of paste. Burrito San Miguel was decent, but lacked steak and was mostly tortilla, cheese and beans. Two margaritas and a burrito turned out to be $27. I am still bitter that I paid this much for this experience. Overall experience was awful and I do not recommend if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. Recommendation to the restaurant.....work on quality and authenticity. read more

I was a little skeptical of Mexican food in Alabama, but it was pretty good. The veggie fajitas were made with peppers, onions & mushrooms and came with rice and beans, pico de gallo, guac and lettuce. The menu is astounding - and kind of overwhelming. Its one of those "one size fits all mexican restaurant" menus, but the food was definitely fresh and well made. They have this really yummy white cheese sauce you can get with your chips and salsa - it tastes like white cheddar mixed with sour cream. Highly recommended. read more

Save your money and go to taco bell. Queso was served cold and is bland. Salsa is bland. Chips were stale. Tamales were like bricks and we were told they were beef but they were pork. The steak quesadillas was superb but never got the rice and beans they were supposed to come with. Guacamole was really good, but stale chips. Chicken enchiladas were bland. Although this was the first time I have eaten in this restaurant- Los Mexicanos in Oxford, AL- I felt like I had been here 100 times before. This is exactly like every other Mexican restaurant in Smalltown USA. You know- the kind with kiwi green and newborn bilirubin filled stool yellow walls and low lying white ceilings. What is up with these green and yellowish colors consistent throughout many of these Mexican restaurants scattered around rural America? Is it to introduce us to the colors of the landscapes and houses in Mexico? Or is it to suggest a lime with tortilla chips? About the food- watch out for the salsa! Its a bowl of time released caliente! Some salsa lets you know that you will have 8 hours before your rectums burns as soon as they touch your tongue. This salsa is a thick sneaky bastard - you pile a bunch on your chip and eat three loaded ones before you realize- "hey- this is a pile of heat"- then you grab your frozen margarita to take a deep swig to heal your screaming taste buds only to get a brain freeze! The salsa is great- but only in reserved, intermittent moderation. I wanted to eat the fajitas- but they would not serve them to me because I was sitting in the no-smoking section. So I opted for the carnitas. The plate comes out popping and the waiter put the plate on the other end of the table away from me saying- "careful this plate is hot". So- ten seconds later- I reach for the plate to bring it closer to me- anticipating a mouth full of juicy pork, I instead get a handful of scorched flesh! I felt like I was in some old episode of the Carol Burnette show! The beans and rice were standard fare- I have eaten them all over America. But the carnitas were about the best I have ever eaten. They were thick chunks of juicy fatty grilled pork! That may not be appealing to some, but I can eat grilled pork fat at any time- even if you serve it to me in an asbestos lined thermos! Ohh- spiced so good- squeezed a lime over them and put one on my head only to have my tongue beat my brains out trying to get to it! Muy bueno! This is the second time i've been here and the second time i've been wowed. Fresh salsa and awesome cheese sauce. Crisp fresh chips that they keep bringing out without you having to ask and the same with the salsa. You dont have to ask for more. They see you are low and they bring more out. I got chili releno, tostada, enchilada, and a tamalae (sp) and everything was delicious. I wil keep coming back here whenever i'm in Anniston. read more

I got the vegetarian #1. One bean burrito, one cheese enchilada and rice and that is exactly what I got... No cheese, onion, cilantro or anything else on the burrito and cheese only on the enchilada. Even the rice was plain (no peas, carrots, etc.). Lettuce, tomato, onion - these are apparently luxuries here. My husband said his was mediocre as well. read more

Quesadillas should be CRISPY on the outside!!!! I have ate here for years, even a a child when they were located on Quintard in Anniston... but I am done! For a long time now I have not been able to get a Quesadilla cooked correctly ! They also cut down the to go size of cheese dip (small) in half! The cooks are being lazy and they turn pout soft and mushy quesadillas every darn time, like a burrito NOT a Crisp Quesadilla, Its really gross. The quality has dropped by a lot in recent years. In the wide spectrum of Americanized Mexican food, Los Mexicanos falls squarely in the "average" category. We had a craving for Mexican food driving home from a weekend vacation and stopped by on a busy Sunday afternoon. To its credit, Los Mexicanos is the ONLY Mexican restaurant open on Sunday in Oxford. We went to three that were closed before finding it. The wait was a pretty short fifteen minutes for a table of four and our waiter got right to business. He wasn't very friendly or helpful, but he brought drinks quickly, kept them filled the whole meal, and made sure we never ran out of chips or salsa. The salsa had a nice texture, not too chunky, with a good kick of jalapeno. The cheese dip was flavorful too (I hate thick, floury cheese dip). I got a chile relleno, burrito, rice and beans. The rice and beans were standard Mexican fare, seasoned fairly well. The burrito had a nice dark red sauce but the meat and tortilla were tasteless. The chile relleno tasted good but there was NO CHILE. It was just a mound of cheese and meat. That is really the kicker to my three star rating. Our friends got quesadillas. Evidently the veggie quesadilla was great but the fajita quesadilla wasn't. My wife got one cheese and one beef enchilada which were about as average as my burrito. In short, we had good service but the food is average. If you're stranded and craving Mexican like we were, stop at Los Mexicanos for a decent meal and good service. I stopped into this place because it was within walking distance of my hotel. I couldn't make up my mind so I ordered a fajita salad and a bean and cheese burrito with red sauce. The chips and salsa were pretty good. The bean and cheese burrito was even better. The fajita salad, it was ok. It was basically a heap of shredded lettuce sprinkled with a few tomatoes, some fajita meat which had good flavor, a huge dollop of sour cream- which I removed, and some cheese. That was nothing to write home about, but I would definitely go back for the other parts of the meal if I was in Oxford again. read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican Restaurants in the area. The fajitas are simply wonderful and the salsa is always very fresh. It is less than a mile off of the I-20 and easy to get in and out. If you are in the area and are in the mood for Mexican food I strongly suggest this place. read more

We were staying in nearby hotel and tried it. It's pretty scary trying a new Mexican place while traveling but we took the chance! It was delicious! The cheese dip was so good and creamy. The chips were light, warm and crisp! The salsa was really tomatoey but the verde salsa was fabulous!!! Our food was delicious - we had the entree called "a little bit of everything"; beef and chicken nachos and the chicken fijita nachos! The portion size was huge - could easily feed two on one entree. The service was outstanding! Not hovering but prompt. Restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. Will definitely be eating there again!!! read more

Los Mexicanos on Hwy 78. Absolutely the worst Mexican Restaurant we have ever been to ! Food was below par and the service was even worse. We were over charged and they refused to adjust the ticket. My Aunt compared her meal to Alpo and of course did not eat it. We were there for a baseball tournament and another family told us that they saw a roach run across the floor in the dining room, and another in the ladies room. If you are ever in Oxford, make a point to avoid this place !!! There are many wonderful places in this area to eat. This place just happens to be the worst !!!!! Worst Mexican dinner I ever had, from Los Mexicanos in Oxford, Al. First time ever to walk away from a shrimp. The waiter was nice but food is a joke. I had chile relleno, a green pepper slice with an ice cream scoop of hamburger on top and some melted cheese, real authentic. And a chalupa, small enough to be on same plate, with dried up lettuce and a spoon of guac, no sour cream. My wife had the shrimp special served in a large brandy glass with tomato sauce and spices. The sauce is ketchup, the shrimp is cooked way over and rubber, cold, with parsley. Very nice for $12. Can't tell if waiter really took the shrimp thing off the bill like he said since only a final price showing. Rude woman at register points to the place to leave a tip. I'm only 64 here, kinda know where the tip goes, and waiter not the problem. THE FOOD IS THE PROBLEM. NO GOOD. Go to Wendy's, Walmart, order a pizza, Coke and crackers at Kangaroo.
