I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2024. I was also diagnosed with celiac disease. I have no problem with Dr. Vikram Patel. He had great bedside manner. The office staff is another story. They do not answer the phone. I tried for a month to get ahold of someone to schedule my yearly endoscopy, and the call goes to a full voicemail. You can't leave a message. You don't get a call back. When you do get someone to answer the phone they are miserable. I think the ladies hate their job and definitely should not be working with the public. They are cold, rude and annoyed. I can't imagine someone going through much worse than my health problems having to deal with this lack of compassion, patience and empathy. I transferred my care to Monterey Bay GI Consultants and it was the best decision I have made in a while. read more

My Primary Physician - Dr. Aggarwal sent them a Referral last October 16. In a week I have contacted them 4 times and claiming that they have not received it yet. The Receptionist is so rude, nastiest, lazy, slow foot and little wannabe Queenie. This is a Dangerous place. This office needs to hire professional front desk staff. I've several bad experiences with them. Dr. Patel was my doctor and he was so short with any questions or concerns regarding the procedure and results. Following up was a challenge since the staff doesn't know how to run the office. Dr. Patel also didn't care very much about my concerns, treatment plan or following up after my procedure. He prescribed me a medication to ease my acid reflux and the pharmacist was very concerned about the quantity and prolonged prescription because it causes major memory problems long-term. If I can give this place 0 stars I would. If you got a referral sent over to them, good luck. I've had my referrals sent over multiple times, and somehow it's "lost" or "never was sent". Even my doctor's office can't figure out why they haven't received it, and they have proof they sent it my primary doctor have called and sent messages. Usually, it's rarely a problem, maybe a computer issue here and there ( and I do understand it happens), but for multiple referrals and calls to get the same exact answer ASTOUNDS me. I got a voicemail saying they received the referral but when I call back the referral was never received nor sent. If you have to come here, either do everything in person (e.g, referrals, payments, etc) or ask for a different GI office. I've given days for referrals to be processed and at this point it's frustrating for patients and even other offices who send patients here. Also, it's hard to hear the receptionist on the phone ( don't know if it's the connection or the phone, cause it cuts out randomly or they're very quiet or very loud) had to edit this review since I forgot other key info and had updates that ended the same way. read more

I had read the reviews for this office and was a little afraid of going but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that whatever problems they may have had have been resolved because I couldn't have had a better experience with Dr. Johnson and his staff. My medical assistant was very friendly and knowledgeable with getting the IV needle in without having any trouble. Usually my veins are hard to find. Dr. Johnson was very friendly and took the time to answer all my questions. I had no pain and didn't remember anything. I only remember waking up to hearing Adel on their speakers and saying, there's nothing better than waking up to Adel's singing. I only had to wait 10 minutes in the waiting room before my scheduled appointment so I appreciated that too. I totally recommend this office to everyone. I had a bad experience with the previous owners of this office however this office is relatively new I believe maybe less than 5 years. I will definitely come back in 10 years! read more

I normally don't leave reviews but I feel like this one is necessary. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! My GI specialist (Dr. Patel) was extremely rude. I had two family members who accompanied me to my appointment. They had made prior arrangement at their jobs in order to be with me for emotional support. The specialist immediately entered the room with hostility and kicked my family member out of the room and wouldn't even bother to give me a second of his time to hear the new symptoms I was experiencing. I waited so long for this appointment for NOTHING! I am already in the process of switching to a different office. Also, the receptionist's are horrible at communicating with the patients. The ONLY good receptionist's at this office is a female named Liz. She is the best. However, everyone else is extremely complex. DO NOT believe the positive reviews on this place. Why bother scheduling appointments and asking your patients to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment when you are going to leave them waiting for 1 hour and 50 minutes after the scheduled appointment? No communication from medical staff regarding possible delays. Very poor communication. Otherwise, the procedure was uneventful and painfree. Had a phone appointment with Dr. Johnson scheduled. Everything was going as planned, the Medical Assistant called to check meds and that other stuff and said DR would call back when he was ready. Fast forward 1 hour and 15 minutes, still no call from the doctor. I finally run out of patience and call the office only to have to deal with their outdated phone system, I pressed the option to speak to a receptionist and the call gets forwarded to a different number, I can tell because I was getting someones voicemail. I called back hit the option for billing. Also no answer during business hours, I got some voicemail for someone who does billing for them and a few other offices. I called back a third time and press the option for if you are doctor calling in and to no ones surprise they answered. I asked where Dr. Johnson was and how long it would take to be seen. Only to find out the DR, had left and was supposedly at the hospital on an emergency. THIS IS GREAT AND ALL, EMERGENCIES HAPPEN. What I dont appreciate is that 1. I was left waiting around instead of getting a call back to reschedule, 2. they had no intention on calling me to let me know because they didnt know "if the doctor is coming back or not". Ok cool, how about I send you guys an invoice for $50 for a missed appointment fee? I let them know since Dr Johnson was not answering their calls that I was no longer waiting. Here's my story you decide: Suck off my appointment and they put me off roughly 2 months, I called the office to confirm my appointment about 5 weeks out. All good. I drive from South County about an hour and the price of gas ain't cheap either. Arrived at their office on time and take a seat receptionist calls me up to the counter what's your name I don't see you or here, what's your birthday, okay she says well your appointment was canceled, because you never confirmed it, cleaning that she left you messages on my cell phone requesting my confirmation of the appointment. But I don't always use my cell phone. Anyway she goes back to the doctor's office comes back it starts telling me the history of my relationship with their clinic whatever it is, anyway I'm like he's a doctor going to see me she says no without another word I walk out. The receptionist in this location is the worst. You come in and she already has a face that she doesn't want to help you. No compassion whatsoever that maybe you went in person to make an appointment because you're desperate to see a G.I. Specialist. When I called and finally got an answer the horrible receptionist told me she had just received my referral and that the doctor needed to review it. I went in person because I'm desperate and this is where my doctor referred me too. This is where I got to meet the receptionist with a rude attitude lying that she barely got the referral "today". I let her know I called and I was told it was received yesterday. Of course no one likes to be caught in lies and she just stated well the doctor is still reviewing it. I don't know who runs this place but maybe you should rethink of having someone up in the front who is respectful and compassionate. I should not feel like crap for just trying to make an appointment. I 100% doctors are busy and I understand it might take more than two days to review something but you don't need someone treating you like you like trash. Went in yesterday at 10:30 am and was out by 11:45 am. I was very nervous going in and the nurse helped me relax. Everyone in the office was doing their job in a professional manner. Once I received sedation, I have no memory of my visit until I got home. I don't remember anything after the sedation. I preferred it that way. Today my booty isn't sore nor is my IV site. THE ONLY HARD PART IS DRINKING THE MOVIPREP! it was a little more tolerable drinking it cold and fast. Dr Carlson and staff: see you in ten years if not sooner!!!! Let's start with the one negative I have: either their fax machine doesn't work, or my Dr. never sent the referral. I'm going to lean on their fax machine is awful, because I've never had an issue with my Dr's office and referrals before. Los Palos said they have "multiple fax machines" so finding the referral could take a few days.... That makes no sense, but was easily alleviated by being a squeaky wheel and bugging them to keep checking on my referral (I literally called them about 6 times to get the appointment set). Getting an appointment within 4 days of a phone call for an Upper GI Endoscopy truly was pretty darn amazing though. Nowhere else in the county could accommodate me like that. For that I'm super grateful, because my condition was REALLY bothering me. Check-in was quick and I only had to wait 10 minutes past my appointment time to be brought back for the procedure. Now, if you're a nutcase like me, they do allow no sedation for the procedure (another thing no other office would do - it is tough for my wife and I to sync schedules so it was just easier to not be sedated). All of the nurses and Dr. Carlson didn't necessarily recommend it, but they did allow it and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. And this is why I'm giving them 5 stars - the fear factor for a procedure like that without sedation is HIGH. The nurse talked to me throughout the procedure to let me know that I was doing great and that my insides look great too. Dr. Carlson was also highly supportive throughout the procedure, which makes it so much easier to tolerate. After the procedure, Rose (one of the nurses) continued to talk to me and was beyond friendly. I'd recommend the office just for their nurses alone, but Dr. Carlson is equally as impressive. About 15 minutes after I was done, I was out of the office with my results, prescription, and next appointment. I was in and out of the office in less than 50 minutes, for something that with sedation all but takes the whole day. Dr. Johnson saw me thirteen years ago for a colonoscopy. I went this week and was sorely disappointed. I arrived at 11:15 for my 11:30 appointment. I was told to sit and wait. My wife and I sat in their oak, un padded, upright chairs for an hour and hour and fifteen minutes. I know that there may be the occasional accident on those chairs but they have placed you in the most uncomfortable position possible after taking the "prep" kit, which makes every bit of fluid come out of you, but you can't risk a fart being more than that, so multiple trips to the sole, single bathroom a necessity. But of course one of the other twelve people waiting in the waiting room with you also has the same problem, so now you wait, terrified that you may soil your pants at any time. I was brought back at 12:30, an hour late. Now I was greeted by a pseudo nurse that instructed me to strip from the waist down and put on the gown. I said I had to go again, but was told that the single, sole bathroom was occupied. IV was started, butterfly, hit it first try. Then told to wait. By 1:00 I was furious with the delay. Then the IV started to really hurt. I told the pseudo nurse that and she told me that was " normal". Now being one who has had the unfortunate experience of having more than 15 surgeries, I knew it could be improved. Now way here. Finally at 1:35 I was taken to the operating room, two hours and five minutes late. The Dr. Asked how I was and I said, well, I have been waiting for more than two hours, how would you be? His answer was to tell me that this guy was going to be my anesthelogist who asked me if I knew the words to the looney tunes song. WHAT? Then he told me he was going to put me out with Propofil. I asked wasn't that the drug Michael Jackson died from and he said, but he didn't have me for his anesthesiologist. I came to, feeling like he took an air hose and filled everything up like a balloon. Needless to say, I was fine, he never apologized or in any way acted like they had done anything wrong. It took me a day and a half to feel like I wasn't full of air, my rectum was bleeding from the apparent rough treatment it had undergone, and needless to say, I will never return to Los Palos Gastroentrology endoscopic center again. They may be MD's but my time is as valualable to me as yours is to you. You took two hours of my time which could have been used to produce money. Instead, you unapologetically took mine. I understand that there are times when someone else may be in trouble and you get delayed, but the atmosphere and careless attitude leaves me to conclude that this is the rule instead of the exception. The earlier reviewer is spot on. This place doesn't know what customer service is. Frequent long hold times, never get a call back even when leaving messages. It's impossible to speak to the Dr. on the phone unless you get him when he's the after hours on-call. I too have had problems with Yesensia. I have also had some disagreements recently with them about prescription changes (which they didn't record) and releasing my records to me. They were unwilling to let me be seen by another doctor when my prescription change was not recorded. Dr. Smith who is my doctor was on vacation for two weeks. I ended up waiting three to hear from them, and only did then because I kept calling them. They continued to send the wrong prescription, even after they "fixed" it. Took three additional requests over the course of a week to get it fixed. I think the only reason it got fixed was because I called the on-call and it happened to be Dr. Smith. He was totally unaware that there was anything going on. Needless to say it was fixed the next day... nearly 4 weeks later. No idea when/if my written request for records will be honored. Yesterday they called me asking me to call about my appointment in two and a half weeks. I thought it was odd since usually they only call the day before. When I called the first lady I spoke to had no idea what was going on. She told me the doctor wouldn't be in that day. I asked to reschedule and she then put me on hold. 8-9 minutes later someone else answered that had no clue why I was calling. After finding me and my appointment she told me Dr. Smith has passed away. This is unfortunate news, I did like Dr. Smith just the staff has issues. They were unable/unwilling to reschedule me with one of the other two doctors. I was informed they do not know what they are doing with Dr. Smith's patients yet and was asked to call back in 1-2 weeks. Not trying to be disrespectful but I can't find anything online in regards to Dr. Smith passing away. I half wonder at this point if they are just frustrated with me and are trying to get rid of me. In the end, if you have other providers under your insurance policy I would start with them. Unfortunately for me I do not. I have only seen Dr. Smith and do like him and appreciate the care he's provided but his office is just too much to deal with. read more

Was a bit worried when I went in for the procedure, once I got to the back, I was made to feel comfortable. The technicians explained the procedure and put me at ease. The procedure itself was painless, other than the IV poke, but I am not a huge fan of needles. I appreciate the professionalism of the office and how I was treated. read more

Check in was efficient. Wait time for procedure was fine. I expected the nurses to be in scrubs but they had on street clothes like yoga pants under a backwards medical gown. I also expected to wear a surgical hat but I guess that type of procedure doesn't require it. Dr and other staff were very nice, but I was in the procedure room with the door open and my butt up against the rail. Didn't matter soon after that as I was out ! If I could give a negative review I would!. This place is cold and uninviting. The staff is not informative. They make appointment don't even bother to tell you that it's a half an hour before your actual call time!!! Like really so you expect us to wait in your hard ass chairs in your office a half an hour starving before even being called?! Additionally your late and appear to not even be on time. Don't you think you should tell your patient that at arrival? I mean the fact you called every other patient that arrived after me was total bull. Then I have to ask you meanwhile I'm here day 2 for second procedure and had been fasting for 3 DAYS already! If I had a choice where to go this place wouldn't be it!! The air-conditioning is loud and attrocious. The water feature nis cracked and don't even work and sits right in middle of office. I refuse to even use bathroom here Lord knows it's prob not the cleanest considering all the other factors. Who wants to go to the bathroom knowing everyone else in the building has been on a GI cleanse?! Probably not attended to very often! When my patient was in recovery there was no recovery it was fend for yourself. Additionally staff came in to bitch about the pulse ox meter coming off like it's my fault the patient was dead asleep and being watched over they there "driver" which is what they call u when being brought back to heard you out like cattle. read more

I have had 4 or 5 colonoscopies and 2 upper endoscopies at this clinic. Dr Johnson is truly excellent, but most of the other reviewers make a strong point about the inattentive, hostile, somewhat incompetent support staff ( with the exception of dr johnson's assistants at his new site in watsonville) . The clinic on Los Palos Drive in Salinas is dirty, crowded, with a truly lousy billing staff. on 11/23/16 I had a procedure done (endoscopy) after having turned in my insurance cards and other paperwork, referrals a few days earlier. They verified my insurance etc and I went in and had the procedure, fast forward to now, 4/22/19. I just received a bill for 4,200.00 for the ANESTHESIOLOGY ALONE for that 2016 procedure. They are claiming that I had a non PPO anesthesia provider used in the ALREADY APPROVED procedure. The billing people will not talk to me, I am getting the runaround. How would I as a patient lying on the table know if the anesthesiologist is PPO approved? They called my insurance before the procedure, to ok it, and three years later I am being told I have to pay 4k for the gas they give you for 15 minutes? Find Dr Johnson and go to him wherever he is but stay away from the salinas clinic, and watch out for surprises in your bills. read more

Went here in December '12 for a colonoscopy since it was the only local GI on my insurance plan. It was like a factory setting where I was lying on a guerny next to a man (I'm a woman) with a partially closed curtain between us waiting our turn to go into their one (!) procedure room. The staff is young, rude and inexperienced. The young females here all seem to have the same bad attitude. I also question how much medical experience the staff have or how clean the room/instruments can be in this factory setting! I need follow-up with a GI and I'm going to the SF Bay area for this. I would recommend NOT going here and traveling a bit further for your care. read more

Horrible! The non deciphering phone messages, the switch from a colonoscopy to a "on no you're scheduled to have an endoscopy" after I've been fasting for 24 hours to the assembling line of patients. I can actually take all of this, hell as long as things go as they should I'd give them a 4 out of 5 for the practice. BUT! after they're so called "check up" call I told them I was having intense stomach pain and asked if I should go to the hospital or if that was normal and She freaked out. Saying things like "uh, well, um" then quickly said, "i'll have the doctor call you." and hung up. I called them back 20 mins later, nothing, called them 30 mins after that left a message. Waited an hour after that, called got through and then got hung up on. Now the office is closed and I'm freaking out if there's something I should be really worried about. 00000000 STARS! Im a new patient and have waited for over 2 weeks for a phone call to schedule an appointment. I finally call today and was told I have an appointment on 8/14.... Okaayyy so when was someone going to call me??? And to top it off I cant even see a doctor first! I have to do an "EGD" first than I can meet a doctor!? I was like WTF? Shouldn't I first establish care like meet the doctor go over history and all the medications I take before proceeding to such an expensive exam?? When I told the girl Vanessa to cancel that and just keep my appointment with the doctor she just cancelled them all and said she wasn't going to schedule again since I was refusing treatment! I told her im not refusing Im just not comfortable with such a scary procedure without first speaking with a doctor than after that I will decide if I wan to put my body through that. I was getting no where with her so i asked to speak to a supervisor. Than i was placed on hold for 48 minutes (every 8 minutes someone would say "be right with you). Little did they know i work right down the street from them so i ended up walking down the street and to their office and waited in the lobby. They literally had no clue i was sitting right there and they were sitting at the front desk gossiping about me and laughing. Than after 48 minutes i got hung up on by them.
