I actually frequent this place! It's so good!! Well, the steak and al pastor are really good. I only get cilantro and onions, I don't have any interest in gringo type tacos. I like a good street taco. The corn is so good too! Depending on who makes it, it's spicier than others at time but I love it spicy! It's such a nice easy, simple and affordable meal! 2-3 tacos fills me up, they don't really skimp on the ingredients. The staff is so super friendly and accommodating. There isn't many authentic Mexican restaurants in South Milwaukee area but we're glad we found Taco Stop Mke. It's a cute little spot you can eat inside or outdoors. You order at the window so it's not really like a sit down with a server kind of restaurant. Husband ordered tacos and flautas, I ordered chilaquiles with steak. They ask you if you want spicy or non spicy chilaquiles, of course I went with spicy and they were so good they're probably my favorite chilaquiles now. I had such a taste for tacos so I made it a point to stop. The service and speed with which I received my order were excellent. I must say though, I was very disappointed in the ground beef tacos that I ordered. The ground beef was very bland, as though not seasoned at all. I'm sad to have to update this review. When we arrived, we placed our order. I noticed a couple waiting and a gentleman waiting. Once we sat down, I heard the couple discussing their wait was 45 minutes and they didn't have any food yet. And they said "he was here before us". Door dash orders were being served up as pick ups came to take them. This couple asked how much long their order would be and they were told 10 minutes more. I do understand that the restaurants are short staffed from covid taking down business and then workers not returning. They did have a small signage posted referring to the possible wait. I feel that there should be some communication also..., "at this time the wait for your food will most likely be one hour."Or whatever the time frame and give the customers the choice to wait or not. Instead nothing was said and you just sit there hungry and unaware of how long it will be. Nothing was said. We had no idea. Also we ordered chips and salsa and that could've been given immediately to have some food to munch on while waiting for our hot food orders of chimichangas and side rice. All the food and chips came together and our wait was 32 minutes which wasn't as long as the other couple or gentleman. But everyone was waiting that came in to order. Door dash seemed to be leaving well. The food was average tasting. I have heard good things about this place so my daughter and I stopped by for lunch. I really wanted to like my steak enchiladas more. I ordered the three steak enchiladas with red sauce. Not at all what I was expecting for a red sauce. It wasn't a smooth red sauce It was more like a spicy red salsa on top of corn tortillas. The corn tortillas weren't really fried but more like warmed. It was a upcharge of $2.75 for rice and beans. The rice was a yellow chicken tasting rice flecked with bits of corn. That tasted good but the beans were under seasoned and watery. My daughter's chicken flautas were better but also needed more seasoning with the meat. They were drowned in lettuce. Our bill was about $25 with two sodas.which was a little high for the portions we received. The place is cute and clean but the food was just ok. Our food was out in 5 minutes. read more

Good choice for Gringo tacos, though service can be a little slow due to staff shortages combined with continued local popularity. If you're in the area, there isn't much competition, but not far north are a multitude of more authentic Mexican family run restaurants and food trucks. The trash can Thank You was a noticeable relic from those days and who doesn't miss A&W root beer on draft? Stopped in on a rainy day and a bunch of school teachers were having lunch on probably their first Friday back. Service was terse but adequate. I ordered three tacos, steak, Barbacoa, and Al Pastor, and honestly only the Al Pastor knocked it out of the park. Asked for the spicy salsa and was given the mild close-to-being-Ketchup salsa. We picked up some tacos on a whim. Didn't even know this place existed, but saw it as we were driving by, and it looked like it had good vibes, so stopped and took some tacos to go. So I'm a fan of small joints with good vibes. So I want to give this place a good rating. There's plenty of outside seating in two separate patio areas, and a few tables inside (like 3). Though during COVID, there is no eating indoors. So far, so good. but... August 2020, on a pretty day, the outdoors would be a great place to chill and eat some good tacos. Except for the traffic... There are a lot of cars whizzing by so it's pretty loud. So even though the decor is quaint, it doesn't feel like it when you're sitting down. (I was sitting there while waiting to pick up my food, for about 10 minutes, and it wasn't relaxing) And while the staff was not rude, they weren't necessarily nice either, just all business and competent. Didn't really add to the experience one way or another. And then the tacos. I had the enchiladas with salsa roja & chicken & boy was it spicy even with the sour cream & queso. My friend ended up getting chilaquiles that were also pretty spicy. A recommendation would be if they added sour cream it could tone it done a bit. The tacos were delicious tho! One order was Al pastor, barbacoa, & Stake. I always look to see if the Al pastor tacos have pineapple & these do. This is how I know it's authentic. Their play list was also amazing. Was in the neighborhood to go to the park and the beach. Ideally I wanted food and coffee and thought about stopping on the way because there are plenty of places between where I live and here, but I was going on an adventure and it seemed unfair to pass up whatever was there. Also was taking the bus and if I was going to take a hike I wanted the motivation. I saw food, so I went for food. But I had been wanting Mexican for awhile. It's no frills. You order from the counter and pay up front. The lady was taking orders and also bringing out food. There aren't a lot of tables--inside anyway. There are more outside but that's not always a viable option in WI. Today would have been a judgement call. The food was good though. I had a breakfast burrito special. Even though there were lengua tacos available. I was hungry by then. And choice of delicious meats notwithstanding, my breakfast burrito was tasty. Real scrambled eggs, I could tell. The salsas were available in squeeze bottles. I really liked the spicy red one. But both were flavorful. I would give them five stars if they automatically served ice water. The food was completely bland. The steak had no flavor, the chorizo was overcooked, and the chimichangas were ground beef and had no flavor. Tl:dr great local place with authentic Mexican food - help support it! I used to go to this building back in high school when it was a gyro place (mind you, I wasn't adventurous enough back then, so it was a lot of chicken tenders being ordered.) I was excited to see a new Mexican restaurant in South Milwaukee! I went there for the first time this week with my very good friend who is a vegetarian. We got chips and guacamole for the table. The chips were the really delicious horrible-for-you kind that are crunchy but also make the entire bag wet with grease. Aka kryptonite. The guacamole was creamy and fresh, but might be too oniony for some. The vegetarian got a normal item sans meat and enjoyed it. I got the three crunchy chicken tacos with guacamole dip. They were perfectly made and under a giant bed of lettuce (which I liked) and although the chicken didn't have much seasoning, the two house salsas gave me all the spice I needed! Green verde - great medium flavor Red salsa - not for the faint of heart! I really enjoyed this place (the inside is small, but they have a cute patio and outdoor window pickup for summertime.) I have had this place bookmarked since they opened and today I finally got over there today. I wanted Mexican for lunch but I was not super hunger for all the fixings and I remembered that this is a la carte style menu so I didn't get any more than I wanted. The place is actually a nice property with a recycled restaurant, possibly a Pizza Hut from the past with two nice out door seating areas and plenty of parking. The place is small with tables and booths that looked well kept just like the outside. This is counter service only and after you place your order they call out your name. The decor says nothing Mexican at all when you walk in and I don't know what the look is that they are going after. The menu prices have changed so I will post a current menu. I wanted to try three tacos authentic style with corn tortillas, cilantro, onion and meat which is hard to F up so I was feeling pretty good. I had a steak, al pastor and chorizo which is my standard meats for tacos because carnitas was not on the menu. The tacos came out fast and hot and they looked pretty good with two bottles of sauce, one mild and one hot which I used both. I had no chips, salsa, beans or rice so my review is strictly on the tacos only. As usual the steak was good but the least liked. The al pastor was by far my favorite with nice chunks af seasoned moist pork. The chorizo was my second favorite with that non greasy chorizo. The corn tortillas didn't look or taste like store bought so I had to ask if they were house made and I was told yes, most everything is made in house. The tacos were very tasty with fresh tortillas, meat and fresh cilantro and onion. I can't speak for the entire menu but the tacos authentic style were pretty good and filled my taco crave so I would definitely go back for the tacos. read more

Now, this is what I like about a place called, The Taco Stop: friggin' AWESOME tacos! Wow, were they good. I've been around the taco block, people. Some of my favorite places are looking a little shabby compared to these guys. I ordered two Barbacoa and one Lengua ( tongue- totally not gross, if you've never tried it ) tacos on flour tortillas with cilantro and onion. They were packed with flavorful, non grisly meat and the tortillas, themselves, were extra special. I slathered on some spicy red and green sauces, squeezed some lime and washed it all down with a Mexican Coke. 'Twas taco bliss! Check it out and see. Where's the beef? I wanted to give this place another try as my previous visit was disappointing when I got home and barely found any meat in my tacos. I thought it may have been a fluke. I guess they still can't get it right. I ordered the ground beef chimichanga meal with beans and rice. I got home and opened up my to go box and no beans and rice of which I paid nearly $3.00 extra for. Now onto the chimichanga itself, very disappointing. Ground beef was only found in half of the chimichanga and the rest was all dough and very bland. I don't even think it contained cheese which I thought was a normal part of the ingredients in a chimichanga. I did call to let them know about the forgotten beans and rice but really didn't feel like driving all the way back to get it so my problem for being out the extra money. This location has been a revolving door so I am pleased that the Taco Stop has been doing well. The service is quick and also very friendly. Tacos can be done in the classic Mexican style (cilantro, onions) or what I call the "Gringo style" which is lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. They are definitely making their flour tortillas from scratch or purchasing them homemade. They are thicker than normal and much more flavorful. The are generously stuffed so 3 or 4 tacos will be a full meal. I have been there twice and have tried the chicken, the barbacoa, steak, and the pork. I have to say that the steak was definitely my favorite. The chicken was dry and the baracoa had an odd taste. The pork was my second favorite of the meats. It's great to have a quick pick up taco place in this area. There are only a few tables so I recommend take out. Also, get their extra hot salsa because it has incredible flavor. read more

The only reason I'm not giving this place more stars is because of the price. I paid almost $7 for chips and salsa....most Mexican places I've gone to give you that for free, so paying $7 is kind of outrageous. If it weren't for the fact I was really craving chips and salsa, I would have definitely passed on that. I also wanted to put guacamole on my tacos so ordered a small side, I want to say it was in a 2 oz container? Which cost me almost $3, also quite pricey for that little amount. I'd like to start by saying how much I wanted to like this place. On Google, they're much higher rated. And the guy who brought me there said he'd heard from friends it was good. We pulled in, and it looks like it used to be a dairy queen... or maybe pizza hut? There's lots of patio space with tables, chairs, umbrellas, and twinkle lights. We order tacos. I get a plate with three fried chicken tacos, he gets steak. Mine came with a tiny bit of guac. He paid $2.75 for that same tiny bit of guac. I still chose wrong. The chicken in my tacos was unassuming and bland. The salsa they gave us was decent...but it didn't fix the problem. And I totally understand if guac is extra. It's normal. But this little tiny container of guac was probs less than an ounce. It wouldn't feed a baby bird. Seriously. His big upset was a side of rice. $5+ for 8oz of white rice, that may or may not have been completely unseasoned. But was decorated with several kernels of corn. So he said his steak tacos were yummy. I obviously, cannot vouch. It's still too soon to reveal my true nature of unashamedly taking bites of everyone's food. But they looked pretty bangin. I suppose my feelings are that this place has potential. The tacos are yummy, and I love that they have a churro sundae on the menu. I hate that on their menu, they spell it 'sunday.' Like hey... they're different, ya know? I think between the two of, with tip, we spent upwards of $27. On his tacos, my tacos, his guac, rice, and a couple drinks.
