The food was nothing spectacular. I felt like the chips and salsa at the beginning was wonderful, especially because we were served freshly made chips. The chimichangas were not what I expected. I expected more of a fried burrito, but instead I got what felt like enchiladas smothered in cheese sauce. The sides were good. The fried ice cream was tasty, but also not what k was expecting it to be. There were places where the shell felt stale, but still overall I enjoyed. The service was rough, as one of our group's orders was not made. Luckily, we just decided to split amongst ourselves. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance. The staff/service was great, but sadly the food was just not good. The queso was fairly bland. My boyfriend did enjoy his chimichangas. However, I had the combo with a cheese quesadilla, chicken taco, and beef taco. The tacos were almost inedible. The cheese in the quesadilla was not melted. We liked this place because of the proximity to home and because of their salsa and fajitas. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is casual and service is overall good. Unfortunately, over the past weekend our family had made a to-go order and had the worst food poisoning we had ever experienced in our lives. It lasted 2 days and nights straight. We tend to frequent Los Toltecos because it's one of two Mexican restaurants in South Riding. The food isn't the best, but it's decent. My favorite things to order here are the queso w/chorizo and the jambalaya appetizer. I usually get nachos al carbon at other restaurants, but they don't make it the same here. read more

We absolutely love the atmosphere and the service here. They are tolerant of the kids indecisiveness and even suggested options, such as beans and cheese with their quesadilla instead of the rice. Their queso blanco is delicious and sometimes has bits of jalapeño and other times is just delicious cheese. Either way it is great The food is absolutely amazing and cooked perfectly. This location was my go to for Mexican food in the area. However, I doubt I return. I literally drove past 2 other locations for this specific one. Had a group of 5 people who all ordered an entree each. Upon paying the bill discovered they had charged us $7 for additional chips and salsa. Our food was very slow in coming out so of course we continued to enjoy the chips and salsa. When we requested a refill they never mentioned additional costs or asked us if we still wanted a refill with the cost. They have increased their prices for entrees which I get. Everyone has but making additional money of chips and salsa is a way to lose your client base. A Mexican restaurant without unlimited chips and salsa is a deal breaker for me. read more

We placed an online order around 7:40pm tonight. The confirmation said it would be ready by 8:15pm. I called around 7:55pm and the person who answered the phone said she was going to input our order now and it shouldn't be long since the kitchen wasn't busy. My spouse went to pick up the order around 8:14pm since he had to go to a nearby business. They told him our food would be another 20 minutes because a party of 10 came in a bit ago. Pretty frustrating to be told the order would be entered and be ready in a bit to only arrive at the original pick up time given and be told a party of 10 that came in after you called was being made first. The service was a little slow, however it was 3:30 in the afternoon so they might just not have much staff around at this time of day. I was happy to find they use shredded beef (not ground). We came in on a Wednesday night for dinner at about 6:30pm with a party of 6 and were seated right away. Their happy hour is until 8pm but the deals depend on the day. They bring out complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa isn't spicy and is a little liquidy. We got the queso with chorizo to share which is delicious. I ordered the steak fajitas which was okay. They only give 3 tortillas and I'm not sure if you can get more for free or if there's a charge for it. The fajitas came with a lot of vegetables which was nice. The portion size was also great. The meat was a little dry and tough. The other downside was that the a lot of the pieces were almost bite sized which was a little odd to me. Decided to try this place since it's close to home. I've been on a hunt for good Mexican food. So far non of them sticks out as my go to place. I got handed a menu that had fresh think sauce inside of it. The salsa & chips was yummy. I ordered the favorite which had a star next to it. (Carne Asada) it sucked and the beans. The meat was very chewy, rice portion was small, meat portion was generous. I should've trusted the 3 star review. Customer service however was quick and efficient. read more

As a former professional cook, I could tell the food was lazily put together as it lacked flavor and technique. Even Taco Bell seems more gourmet. My family and I will never go again. This is not your authentic type Mexican in fact the carne asada that is usually known as well marinated tasted so bland it wasn't edible. I did not like it one bit. The chimichanga that my husband ordered was okay. The drinks were not good either at $9 each guava daiquiri and long iced tea were blah, and definitely not worth the price. Given it's valentine's day, we thought of this place for its convenient location regrettably, convenience doesn't translate to good food. the only reason this place stays open is because of its location and few competition. I definitely will take a longer drive to get to better Mexican next time should that time ever come---sadly, this place killed any cravings for anything mexican i may ever come to onward...i gave them 2 stars because the chimis were somewhat okay. They were tinier than in other places so they did not overwhelmed. Still, i'd skip this place even if that means going farther to the next town for better quality Mexican. Service here could be better. I have tried this chain before in Sterling. Service at that location was also mediocre. This location wasn't packed at all the day we came. There were about 6 people in the entire restaurant during our meal. The hostess was very friendly. She gave us a warm hello and goodbye. Thank you for your kindness! Our server, on the other hand, seemed very unhappy to be here. I did appreciate how he placed extra napkins on our table. Other than that, we felt as if we were bothering him if we asked for anything (ie. take out boxes or that we would like to order dessert). When we asked him for take out boxes, he rolled his eyes and said "anything else!?" in the rudest way. My friend and I felt so awkward. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, our server was only working with our table. He'd sit around with some of the other employees at a table near the entrance and talk. It's almost as if we were bothering him being there because he wanted to continue his conversation among his friends. I still gave him a 25% tip, since I gave him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he was having an off day or fighting a battle I am unaware of. I was also once a server myself, I get it! It would have been nice if he didn't take his anger and frustration out on us. The food at Los Toltecos has always been good. Not mind blowing, but good for the price. You will get a hearty meal that won't break the bank. I love the ambiance of this place. Super festive, colorful, and laid back. It's a great place to kick back and unwind. It was just a bit difficult to relax when the service was rough. We tried their Strawberry Daiquiri and we both agreed that it tasted like pure strawberry puree, nothing else. There was no sign of alcohol in here at all. Their queso was a bit on the watery side and so I would skip that. The complimentary chips and salsa are great! The chips are super fresh and the salsa is smooth and flavorful. We enjoyed our main dishes. It all came out nice and hot. I love the generous servings. Their Fried Ice Cream is a great way to end your meal, perfect for sharing. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. Sorry to say but the word was true about this place. There is no interest in providing an good experience. The only shining light was Karen who was our server. It took her a while to get to me but in their defense I was waiting on some people. The perfect example with this place is the guacamole photo I up loaded. This is how you will not get your guacamole. Why? That picture was of a guacamole my server made after I complained about theirs being bland and having no thing in it. No salt, lime, etc... The taco salad, which is usually a guilty pleasure of mine because I eat the fried bowl, yep you guessed it; I couldn't eat it. Margarita was juice, salad was 1 dimensional (Iceberg lettuce, cheese and one tomato) and I think it comes with dressing. Fajita was the size of champions though, not much else going on here. As another reviewer mentioned - the chips were stale and the salsa was definitely not fresh and tasted store bought. My family ordered the fajitas, fajita salad, taco salad, and enchiladas. The food was mediocre at best, although the fajitas were decent. We came Friday evening and asked if it was happy hour. The waitress said the margaritas were discounted, and we asked what time happy hour was. She said usually all day. Great, that makes no sense. My father asked if they could add some heat to his fajitas by adding some jalapeños. They added a couple cut up jalapeños and charged us $4 for it. FOUR DOLLARS for some jalapeños. That was almost half the price of my taco salad! Lastly, we asked if they did military discount. They said yes. When it came time to pay, they said that they can only do it for the military individual. I would understand that if I were with a large group of friends - but this was a family of four. Not to mention my mother has her own ID since she's the spouse of a now retired military man, and my brother is in the marines. We will not be back again. read more
