Best tacos I have had in a long time!! Filling and delicious, can grab a beer at crooked run as well. Highly recommend

I originally included Senor Ramon under my Crooked Run review for their tacos, but since it now appears on Yelp, I can review it separately. For many of my friends, when we visit this area, Crooked Run is now a destination because of the tacos (as well as the beer). I do find them delicious and nicely spiced. For me, their price is slightly below average among places I visit, so I find them to be a good deal, especially since they come in slightly larger tortillas - and double layered at that. Their lamb tacos - now 2 styles - are incredibly popular among my group, but I've never had a bad taco there. But the tacos are very messy. Perhaps they have a little too much - even double layered, some of the tacos fall apart as I eat them. Also their method of delivery is a little inconsistent. Two of us ordered two tacos each at the same time. One got his on a tray, I got mine in a little cardboard holder. Maybe they have a limited number of trays? This taco place was inside a food hall with many other food stalls. I got the Super Ramon, Birria, and Campechano ($6 ea). They were made in about 7 minutes and were all very good tacos with the super Ramon being my favorite. I loved the cheese flour tortilla and the carne asada/chorizo combo. It was very savory and all meshed quite well together. The other tacos were also quite good. For $6 ea they were on the more expensive side but did fill me up. Updating my review of a couple years ago (have a read of that review because, for the most part, everything still applies). I've continued to frequent this place since then. I would consider Señor Ramon a definite VALUE PLAY - DECENT VALUE HERE FOR WHAT YOU PAY which, at a time when restaurants are jacking up prices, skimping on portion sizes and generally ripping off the customer, says a lot about this place in these economic times. JUST AN ALL AROUND SATISFYING PLACE to come, relax and have some good eats - breakfast lunch or dinner, have your run of cold tapped brews (TONS of draft options!), kid- and large group-friendly. Don't expect fast-food-fast because it's all made-to-order fresh but food does come out without an inordinate wait. There's truly something for everyone (read why, below) in this clean, industrial-vibey environment. Oh - and weather permitting, they kept their HUGE casual outdoor seating area with community picnic tables from back in the covid days - see my pics. That pretty much sums up this place in a nutshell. :) Señor Ramon is one of many of the Crooked Run Brewery "eatery" offerings under one roof at this location (genius idea!) which includes the Crooked Run brewery bar itself, J&J wings and pizza (newest addition), Daybreak Biscuit Co for weekend bfast/brunch offerings and the Nectar bar for cocktails including weekend brunch mimosas and bloody marys etc. So - coming as a group, everyone can fan out and get what they want or you can order a smorgasbord of a little of everything and share, family style. Parking is SO EASY - one of the things I like about this eatery is that it's nestled in and among office buildings and commercial business parks on a "back street" of Sterling on Davis Drive off the beaten path. So lot parking is easy and plentiful pretty much any time of day. No parking hassle among all the strip malls and stores (and horrible traffic) that line Rt 7. No getting tangled in traffic mess near Dulles Town Center or One Loudoun. Just a peaceful, unassuming, quiet back street in Sterling. The food here is classic street tacos done right. Authentic. Order tacos a la carte, individually. I love that because it's easy to mix and match or order just 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 - totally up to you. No combo meals, meal deals or platters - just straight up a la carte tacos. See my menu pics. Each taco has a DOUBLE soft tortilla shell, the way real, authentic street tacos should be. Though they've definitely skimped on how stuffed the tacos are from a couple years back (par for the course everywhere though, amiright?), the tacos are still satisfyingly filling with fresh ingredients, packed with flavor and served hot so you know it's fresh. This place is totally casual - order and pay at the counter and pick up your order when your pager buzzes. Fountain drinks are self-serve. Bus your own table when you're done. No muss, no fuss. Have I mentioned this place is OFF THE BEATEN PATH (love LOVE) but SO EASY TO GET TO. A true hidden gem. P.S. TIP: PAY CASH TO SAVE $$. We've been here a good amount of times just for our love of Crooked Run alone. They really have a huge menu here but in my opinion they haven't missed. Usually when I'm here for beer, I grab any nachos and they hit every time. Most recently we placed a takeout order to pickup for dinner. We got the Ts 478, Super Ramon, Jose Jose, Loco, Patagonia, Gabo, and the Corn Nuggets. It was a huge order but it only took about 15 minutes for it to be ready and it was a little busy since it was a Friday night. Every taco was huge and I would say it was very worth the price. You really couldn't go wrong with any of them. Very flavorful, proteins were cooked well, and saucy. If I had to pick, the Patagonia and the Gabo were really great. Also the corn nuggets with the Cilantro Cream sauce were also great. Very addicting to just pop. Definitely a solid place to grab tacos or any Tex Mex really. 5 stars not just for the taste but the variety. It's difficult to separate my rating of the Señor Ramon from Crooked Run brewery, with which it shares a space. They are two different businesses but share the same tap room. While I visited both, this is just for the tacos. I got a trio of different tacos; the Lola (carnitas, caramelized onions, roasted corn salsa, pico de gallo, chipotle aioli, sour cream & cilantro), Gabo (Flour Tortilla, Skirt steak, caramelized onions, grilled guacamole, Ancho tomato sauce, Jalapenos & cotija), and a third which I can't remember. Good food, usually. Have eaten here several times. I remember them as amazing, but latest visit was only so so. $15 for two specialty tacos and an empanada. Then a buck or two for tip. Ends up being a little pricy for a lunch, but the tacos are well filled. Maybe just order two unless you're really hungry. I had a carnita taco (loco something or other) which was middling, and as TS478 shrimp taco which was awesome. Empanada had a weird "off" taste to it, which was sad since its been awesome on previous visits. Menu has no prices on it (as of April 2022) which is kind of annoying. They then told me that those weren't my tacos despite them being the only ones up there when my buzzer buzzed. Senor Ramon is the perfect compliment for Crooked Run. Tacos and beer are a compatible pairing like Method Man & Redman & Wings and football. Brilliant! Tacos are filled with flavor (lengua, fish, and carne asada) although a bit pricy. They also have empanadas, tortas, nachos, & corn nuggets. Special items such as the SuperRamon (stuffed quesadilla with guacamole, onions, salsa, steak & chorizo) are served and pack a punch like the man of steel himself. Only downside is it closes earlier than the brewery (usually around 9) so no late night eats which would be legendary. Maybe they can work on that. But I'll take it for now! Senor Ramon Taqueria really hit the spot after a long bike ride on the W&OD. I got the taco Al pastor, chorizo, and chicken tinga. My favorite of the three was the Al pastor. They provided a generous amount of taco meat in each taco which was perfect! The staff were friendly and the tacos came out quickly. If you order from the tacos, it's just that the generic taco which was fantastic but is not dressed with all the taco bells and whistles you may be used to. No worries though, there is always next time. I had my eyes on the pollo and the carne asada tacos so that is where my order landed. No complaints at all. Even on the most basic level, the tacos were fantastic!!! Taking it to go, you can get the sauce of your choice to drizzle over as they provide little to go cups with tops for the taking. If you are looking for authentic mexican cuisine, this is not the place. I have to admit this is tasty, but more on the TexMex side. As Mexican I always look for specific items, and this place did not have it. We ordered barbacoa tacos, milaneza (Crispy, thin slices of grass fed steak, fresh avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, topped with a fried egg and served on a fresh baked roll) and Mexican street corn. Something that caught my attention was the note left on each table, its this laminated note that you can flip to have the employees keeping an eye on the tables in need of sanitizing, they kept cleaning the door handles and everywhere were customers touched. Three and a half stars, SR is like a lesser cousin of Bamba, but wisely married via real estate to a brewery. Only a ten minute wait for our food on a busy holiday weekend! Be warned, this is one of the places where if you order the wrong thing, you'd be pretty unhappy. The churros are terrible, they're hard as a rock. Don't get the al pastor either, the ground meat eats dry despite the minced pineapple. Their salsa verde's too creamy for my taste. Nachos have a reasonable ratio of chips to toppings. The carnitas is better than the chorizo, and the carne asada is just fine. The loosely shredded lamb in the Morris is really tasty-- ditto the crispy tripe and braised tongue in the El Macho. I liked the ancho salsa the best, followed by their reasonably spicy chile de arbo. This place is one of my favorite taco joints around the area. They are neighbors to Crooked Run Brewery which makes perfect sense. Because beer and tacos are the perfect combination for any day. The food here is as authentic as it gets. The menu has choices of traditional meats - spicy lamb, beef tongue, barbacoa (shredded beef), and crispy beef intestines, if you're into that. The tacos are substantial and they come with two, not one, corn tortillas to hold all that delicious. The menu are has nachos, tortas (sandwiches), fries, and lots of small plates. Everything is delicious! One of my personal favorites is the El Macho taco which comes with crispy tripe, beef tongue and their zesty and earthy mojo sauce. The taco tastes like fried pork skin or fried "cracklins". I believe their meats, cheese and toppings are locally sourced. Good ingredients. Good Mexican food. Good beer next door. First of all, if it weren't for Yelp, I wouldn't have known that this place even existed---and I don't even live that far away! It's located in the Crooked Run Brewery, which isn't easy to find---even if you're familiar with the area. There are no signs on Davis Drive to point you where it is. Plus you can't see it from the street as it is on the side of the building, thus not visible. Still, after reading the reviews, I did want to give them a try. We were here on a weeknight around 5 p.m. At that hour of the day, it wasn't very busy. They have some outside seating. The only way you know that Senor Ramon's is inside is one sign that says "Tacos". As you enter the brewery, turn right to go for tacos. I agree with Adrienne that the menu sign isn't easy to read due to its placement. We found ourselves really having to crane our necks. Even when it isn't busy, the place is loud. I went to the counter and ordered 2 Patagonia tacos and the man behind the counter asked me to repeat it. My husband and I both placed the same order--- 2 Patagonia tacos and 2 sodas. Then we sat at a communal high top table by the counter and waited for our order to be ready. The Patagonia tacos consist of: "carne asada, salsa, shredded cheese, guacamole, chimichurri sauce". The taco shells are soft flour ones with 2 on each taco. We liked the tacos. The flavor was good and they were easy to eat without making a mess. The flavors all worked well together and they were unique when talking tacos. The sodas were served to us in plastic cups with no lids or straws. I looked to see if they had any around and there were none. We ended up taking our sodas with us when we went and it was awkward without any covers. It was rather strange to serve them in to-go cups without any lids... We found the decor in the brewery to be rather drab and a bit depressing with bad acoustics. As a result, we quickly ate our tacos and moved on. For that reason, I doubt that we would come back. Still, it was a cheap meal as we both ate for just under $20. This location is in a building with Crooked Run Brewery, Daybreak and a cocktail bar called Nectar. This location is amazing if you haven't been. Four neat businesses rolled up into one! We shared the Ramona (lamb) nachos, corn nuggets, and carne asada tacos. The service was efficient and friendly. I really enjoyed the corn nuggets and simple tacos. However, I do wish the Ramona nachos had more flavor. It seemed like a pile of generic nacho chips with a few toppings. This place is in a super cute food hall with other food choices and crooked run brewery. Based on their taco menu, I was very excited to try the tacos as they sounded imaginative and flavorful. I ordered: Ghost (tinga + ghost pepper cream + other stuff): This was so underwhelming! It wasn't spicy AT ALL. The tinga itself was flavorless and the 'ghost pepper' sauce tasted more like the mayo + paprika you put on elote Patagonia (steak + chimichuri + other stuff): The other stuff (sour cream and possibly shredded cheese for some reason) completely overwhelmed the chimichuri. And the hints of chimichuri I got weren't the right flavor profile, it came across more greek tasting to me? Lo.co (al pastor (in theory) + jalapeno + other stuff): Again the sour cream + cheese blend they threw on all the tacos just took away any other flavor there. That said, I had to do a double take to make sure I had the right taco because it was shredded protein so it looked more like tinga. I know not all places have the infrastructure or the throughput on ordering to do a real spit roast pastor, put cooking pork and pulling it like you would for bbq and calling it pastor feels like dialing it in to me. Hubs ordered jose jose, al pastor and lola and similarly thought all 3 were oddly similar in the flavor profile given the descriptions and none were particularly great. All the tacos come double shelled which I'm also not a fan of. On top of all this, it was a 10-15 minute wait for tacos after order (and the place wasn't packed). Not my cup of tea. read more
