Honestly, if you guys think this is the best Mexican food in ninety miles of Jerseyville, you are clearly not a Mexican food connoisseur and don't get out very often. I don't care if it's a small town or not... Onto the review, Negatives: Stale chips - absolutely unacceptable for any restaurant to serve a stale opener...or hell, stale anything. Rice - not ethnic at all, this is the rice served from packets that you boil on the stove with peas and carrots. They cut major corners on this Mexican cuisine staple. Vacuuming right next to and partially under our table during dinner hours. Cheese dip was water with cheese flavoring poured onto chicken. At some point we were forgotten about while we were waiting to order. You want good Mexican food go to Carisilo's in Collinsville or Pueblo Solis in St Louis Hills...if you are up for the "within ninety mile challenge". Positives: The margarita was alright. The salsa was served in a spare carafe so we didn't have to keep asking for more salsa. Carisilo's and Pueblo Solis are my top picks and let me tell you, Mexican food is ninety percent of our eating out budget. read more

I'm surprised by the language and bill issues others have mentioned. I just came from a get together with former colleagues. Eight of us had our bills split 5 ways. Each was perfectly separated. Communication is never an issue, at least not in our experience. Our orders, some with special requests, were all correct. They recently did some remodeling in here. The food here is pretty good. Not my favorite salsa but it's not bad. The cheese sauce here is good and if you make a to go order you will get chips and salsa with your order which is nice. Only bad thing is that they sometimes play the music too loud in there and it's not a relaxing atmosphere. read more

Service is good, depending on who is serving you. The food is almost the exact same as the food at El Mezcal in Alton, so I'm not complaining one bit. You can tell the salsa and chips are always made fresh. The salsa tastes different everyday which is wonderful. The lighting and atmosphere in the area is awkward. I don't know if it's just me, but the lighting makes me almost lightheaded. Also, the front windows are blacked out and it's hard to tell if they're open sometimes. I would return, though. read more

Used to go all the time. We've stopped going here as our bill never matched what we ordered. Usually to there advantage, when questioned they would adjust but then seemed just another lower amount. Language barrier sometimes maybe. Food..well after our visiting the New Mexico region, we've lost our taste for los tres. Just not as flavorful as the southwest food. read more

Bit of an unfair previous review. Typical Mexican food, is something of... almost a joke. You're not in New York, or Dallas, you're in Jerseyville Illinois. This is the best Mexican food you will find within, 90 mile radius Yeah I'll go that far. Homecoming-esque, large portions, and of course, the staple of Americanized Mexican, margaritas. This town previously didn't have anything besides a taco bell, so it's an improvement in leaps and bounds. When you're tired of dive bar food, this is a great deviation. read more

I got the fajita burrito here the day I moved to town and have gotten it every time I've been back. I go here 2-3 times a month and haven't been disappointed with it, yet. It's a typical chain Mexican restaurant that is slightly better than average. The food is good and affordable. read more

I had the best Shrimp Quesadilla at this restaurant today....best of my life...of all the Quesadillas I've ever eaten...this one is by far, the very best....I didn't know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised...different than any other Quesadilla I've ever eaten, but in a very good way!!! Taco Bell is far superior! Colorado and Texas are my frame of reference for Mexican food so I may be more critical than someone who does not eat Mexican food on a regular basis. The margarita was terrible...not sure how u can ruin one. The kid at the next table killed a big bug but I had no desire to find out what kind it was. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant around. Their cheese dip is superior to any other place I've had it and their portions are always large. It's busy all the time so everything is always fresh. Some of my favorites are the supreme nachos, chicken tostada, and quesadilla fajita with steak and shrimp (not on the menu). Normally their margs are strong but the Saturday special is a pitcher for $10.99 and it was pretty weak as you can imagine a good deal might be. read more

This is the worst place ever when it comes to customer service and getting your order correct. I placed a take out order and got 2 half bags of chips and no salsa. When I asked the person that checked me out if everything was there and did they double check it she said yes. When I went in to the restaurant to place the order, the gentleman taking my order couldn't answer any of my questions because he didn't understand what I was asking. I am guessing a language bearer, because he didn't speak very good English. All he could do was point to the menu and say yes. That is why I made my order simple, since he couldn't understand what I was asking. This is also the second time they have messed up our take out order. However, I live 12 miles from the restaurant so I never go back to get what they left out. It won't be a problem any more because Godfrey and El Mezcal is just about the same distance from my house. Won't be back. I would rather go to Taco Bell where I they get the order correct. read more
