I am so proud of myself. Today, I went to The Pump House and I did not order chicken wings. It was…read morea struggle, but I forced myself to order something else off the menu and I am glad that I did. Instead of my typical order of wings and fries, I got the Pump Jack Burger. It's made with Angus beef topped with Pepper Jack cheese, Grilled Balsamic Onions, Mild Banana Pepper Rings with a Sweet and Spicy Sauce, all served on a Onion Roll. It was served with a side of Fries. I was impressed by the size of the burger and that it was hand pressed. A hand pressed burger always tastes better to me. I requested that it be prepared medium rare and it was done perfectly. The fries were soft, I'd prefer mine a little crispier, but they were seasoned well. I got a giggle from their ketchup bottle, it said it was "Fancy". They have an impressive variety of beers. They offer draft, bottle and canned. I personally always go with one of the many craft beers they have on the menu. When dining alone, I always sit at the bar. The bartenders are typically female and are friendly. I am fan of hooks under a bar and Pump House takes it even a step further. They also offer, outlets. If your phone needs a charge and you've got a cord, you are set to go. Offering outlets under a bar, is top notch customer service. Now that I know they have great burgers as well as their wings, I'll have to rotate between the two when coming to dine.

Update Haven't been back here too much but called in for an…read moreorder to go tonight. Pump House! You need new cooks! The ones you have don't know how to cook basic food. Like I said in my first review you need to learn low and slow for a pork steak. Oh we don't have that anymore. Thank goodness. Your pork steak was chewy and not done appropriately. Horrible to try and eat. Tonight one of us got the chipotle chicken sandwich. The chicken was cooked to death. Ugh. Came out like chicken powder, you know the kind they put in your dog's food? Way too dry. Hard to eat. All the menus online are out of date so just about everything we chose we were told oh we don't have that anymore. Not good business practice. Put out a new menu and delete the old ones!! You fit right in with the rest of the crap food we are served in this area. Not a bit better. We won't try again.

Awesome, Sauce! OMG!…read moreI already knew Saucee makes incredible wings, from a previous dining experience. The last time, I enjoyed my wings plain with no sauce. This time, I went with Sweet Heat. Damn, it had the perfect combination of heat and sweetness. I definitely order it again. The wings were good sized and meaty. They were super crisp and the sauce was evenly coated. My order came with 6 pieces and they were evenly distributed, 3 flats and 3 drums. The side of fries served with my wings had some of most flavorful seasoning, I have ever had. It was spicy and peppery. The portion was huge, so big that I took half home and reheated them as breakfast potatoes the next day. I was surprised how well they reheated. Made my breakfast extra tasty. I was surprised how fast my buzzer went off, letting me know my order was ready. While I dined, others at the communal picnic table were drooling, they were jealous of my order. The service was top-notch and friendly. The young lady taking and passing out completed orders was actually charming.

I then ordered the pepperloin sandwich at the recommendation of our server. I was NOT disappointed! Super soft bun, generous portions of meat and the seasoning and sauces finished it off. Highly recommend if you come for a sandwich! Great place for lunch. Next time I am back in Bethalto we will be sure to stop in.

My cousins Aunt (from her other side of the family) turned me on to Geno's. She is older then Geno's and sings the praises of the Wednesday special. On Wednesday, they offer what I'd call a, Blue Plate Special. It's a healthy sized serving of Meatloaf, a side of Mashed Potatoes with Brown Gravy and daily vegetable. The day I went, I enjoyed Green Beans. It was comfort food at its best. True down-home cooking. I had also heard from other Onion Ring addicts, that the ones at Geno's were pretty impressive. When dining alone, an order of Rings and an entree can be too much food. However, to my surprise Geno's allows you to pay a minimal up-charge for a side of Onion Rings. In my opinion that is genius. I was able to enjoy my juicy cheeseburger and instead of a side of fries, I got to experience their famous house made onion rings. They were large rings, well breaded and crispy. They also paired perfectly with the burger. My next visit will be to try their chicken wings. I've heard they are the best in Madison County. Service has been nice and friendly. The type of service you'd expect at an old school family ran restaurant. Very comforting and welcoming.

There was only one car on the lot, and it didn't look like the lights were on. Another vehicle showed up and went to the door. Lo and behold they were open. We followed suite and went inside. The young man at the counter didn't greet us. So we opted to use the self service kiosk. We already browsed the menu ahead of time to make everything easy. We both ordered the chicken Sandwich combo, which comes with 1 side and a breadstick. You can choose what flavor you want, so i opted to get the Nashville hot (Spicy). We waited about 10 minutes before we got our food, i checked my bag to ensure everything was correct and headed home. The food was still piping hot once we got home. The Sandwich was juicy, and tender. Seasoned well, and not overly spicy. The fries were crispy, but yet still soft in the middle. They were little spiral cut fries. The breadstick was soft, and fluffy and the Parmesan drizzle on top added extra flavor. The Nashville street corn was delicious. The Parmesan drizzle was a great added touch. I would add a little salt to add some flavor/seasoning and some shredded Parmesan for extra texture. There are two small tables inside for those who want to dine in. There are also a few slot machines for those who like to play slots. It's painted black so it makes the place feel small and dark. Plenty of parking outside. Definitely worth giving them a try.
