Early bird gets that tee time
    Merek C.

5:55 am tee time the day before daylight savings this past weekend. A true gem and highlight for this 626er who doesn't get to play ocean view courses much and boy does this course deliver on that. For a first time player, the different types of holes and changes in elevation and lies was quite fun. The greens were super tricky and I had a good amount of fun for playing so poorly. Since we were the second group out pace was not an issue. We made it in at a respectable 4hr 15 mins but never felt rushed during the round. No fog the day we played so it made the day that much better. Looking forward to coming back to play here again some day.

The back nine is close to the ocean, which makes it beautiful. The greens are challenging but in great condition. It's a course I'd love to come back to often. However, the bathrooms could use more attention to cleanliness and smell.

I organized a charity event here for 250 guests and a dozen vendors, silent auction, and speakers. Jules and the staff helped our event run seamlessly! From their calm demeanor and helpful reminders (e.g. vendor lunches will be put on a cart on the terrace at 12:15), to the waiter who poured champagne at the entrance and helped our president walk down the steps off the stage, we found the whole staff calming and responsive to any request. We especially appreciate their accommodating the moving of tables from outside to inside and then back outside as the rain forecast changed. Many guests told us how lovely the space is and how much they enjoyed the view, but the biggest compliments were for the food! The way the salad was wrapped in cucumber strips was elegant, and the addition of the baked tomato was a fun surprise, and the taste of everything was delicious!

    Here you go LA County.

Simply the worst course I have played in years. Hardpan and crab grass everywhere. This means your ball will move from one side of the fairway to the other without the ability to position the ball for your next shot. Tiger/Jack/Tom/Arnie would never play this course. The restrooms on the course are closed now. The sand traps are concrete. No display on the carts, so one has no distance measurement. Most holes missing a ball washer. This course makes the LA City course Penmar look like a Private Country Club. Broken suspension on the cart. Needed a replacement. Supervisor Janice Hahn, this is your golf course, does the County not even care? Skip this course, better customer appreciation elsewhere.

I've played Los Verdes in Palos Verdes a few times over the years. The word around town is that its hard to get a tee time, and the rounds take longer than normal (5 1/2 hrs+ vs 4 - 4 1/2 hrs at most courses). However, if you know someone that understands the system here, you are in for a treat. Positives: Long course w/ ocean views, bending fairways, elevation changes and inexpensive price (I think $62 on weekends w/ a cart vs most public courses are $75+ on weekends). Negatives: Hard to get a tee time, long rounds, lousy grass in some sections of the fairways and its far off the freeway. Despite the negatives, I would rather play here vs nearby Trump that charges about $100 more vs Los Verdes. Its a much better designed course vs Trump, and it is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Tee times are dirt cheap for the course, the views are second to none for a public course, greens are well maintained, and the course is fun.

Sat down near the window and had a great view of the course and ocean. They even lowered the thermostat because they noticed my wife was feeling cold. What big restaurant does that? Ordered the wedge salad, lobster ravioli, and tomahawk steak (named 45-47). Lobster ravioli was stuffed with ravioli (easily feeds 2). The steak was cooked and the head Chef (Peter) physically walked it to our table and showed it to us before he cut it. The seasoning on the steak is the perfect! And the salt even had a smokey taste. I only wish I didn't stuff my face with so much or their amazing bread before the final entree so I could have eaten even more of the steak. Finished it all with a cup of coffee that didn't need sugar or cream (which I normally NEED) and their main dessert (Trump Chocolate Tower). Going back with the wifey and doing the exact same thing with kids.

I actually just enjoyed all the seafood. The tiramisu was outstanding and I would go back just to get this dessert. I loved the chocolate fountain, just wish there were some bananas to dip. We have been here before for dinner and tea, this was our first time for brunch. Looking forward to coming back and trying the prime rib dinner.

I got to enjoy beautiful views of the Pacific from their Garden Terrace and Ballroom. The Ballroom has windows that overlook the golf course and makes for a great sight of the sunset at night. It's also quite a spacious ballroom, making it perfect for large events and parties. Aside from enjoying the view, I got to enjoy a wonderful dinner here tonight. Dinner was kicked off with appetizers such as Fried Artichoke, Chicken Tostada and Coconut Shrimp. The main dinner course consisted of tender Short Rib with Roasted Potatoes and Peas. Dessert was a mini Apple Pie topped with vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel. I enjoyed visiting Palos Verdes Golf Club very much. One thing I would note though was when I was leaving, it was quite dark. The neighborhood around doesn't have much light in the evening. I wasn't quite a fan of the dark area and I do wish there were more lights around. Other than though, this spot is a beautiful spot to visit.

There was a lot of parking and it was a quiet morning. The view was amazing, but the interior setup was interesting. The venue had a large round table that would sit 10 comfortably, but they had 11 people per table. It was hard to maneuver around the tables and guests without crossing in front of the guest speakers. At one point, we couldn't figure out where the extra sound of music was coming from during one of the presentations. I heard it coming from the kitchen. The bathroom had 3 stalls on one side and 4 plus a handicapped stall on the other side. They had a hands-free sensor for the toilets flushing mechanism, which I thought was amazing. They also used high quality paper towels and provided little plastic cups for mouthwash. The breakfast selections were awesome. There was this whipped yogurt that was thick and fluffy, almost like cream cheese. They had this tomato parmesan croissant that was aromatic and I wanted more (I had 3). The custard Danish was delicious too. Lunch selection was pretty good too. Their pasta dish was cold, but filling. Their chicken and salmon were cooked perfectly, wasnt dry. Their smoked gouda mac and cheese wasnt creamy, but wasnt fully dry either. I really enjoyed the barley that came with the salmon. The potatoes were my least favorite, I thought it was too dry and very salty. Super kind people, actual golfers, folks that care and remember you and are actively working to make the experience the best. Second. The views. All ocean views, Catalina Island, and just beauty as far as the eye can see. Third. The course is always in immaculate condition. Tee box to green. Bunkers and native plants. All working together for a challenging yet beautiful space. Fourth. Terranea itself. You come here and you don't feel like you are in LA. It feels like a European getaway. Nice places to eat. Lots of trails to explore. You're away from that hustle of the city. Fifth. The Links Club membership. Worth every penny. Free rounds. Discounted golf. Free lessons. Access to practicing bays and the chipping / putting areas for free. Also get discounts around the resorts at the Spa, restaurants, etc. Sixth. Nature. It is everywhere here. The plants, the trees, so many native critters and birds. If you need to plug into the Earth for a bit, grab your clubs and take a walk here. It'll feel good. Trust me. Seventh. Some folks hear "9 hole par 3 courses" and think "it must be a crappy little municipal." Not here. All the holes pose some kind of challenge. The greens are HARD. Lots of breaks. Lots of hazards. And if you're not good from 120y and in, well then come play this course often and you'll get better. When i started making The Links my go to practice spot and got the membership. I got better. I work for hours on my greenside chipping, getting out of bunkers, and getting up and down. This course puts you to the test. And you'll get better by mastering it. Eighth. Practice bays. Three covered net areas to practice or get lessons. One has a Trackman range system in it (by appointment or for members). I am here all the time practicing. Hit hit hit hit hit. Metrics, yardages, club gaps. Practice. That's the way to play decent golf for us amateurs. Ninth. I need to mention the people one more time. Everyone that comes here is nice. Never met one hacker, bro dude, or course abuser walking these Links. Everyone comes here because they want the getaway golf experience. Even all us locals say hi, share the practice areas, and enjoy the grounds. The staff (again) are always super friendly. This is not some Alondra like place where you get rude hackers or drunk bros. People are just nicer here. That's all I got. Catch me out here. Living close to Terranea is a blessing. I don't take it for granted.
