I called Plaza Golf to inquire about getting a replacement 8-iron built. My current Miura set was meticulously frequency-matched (CPM) previously, so I wanted to ensure the new club would follow the same precise shaft specs.The phone experience was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. The employee who answered had absolutely no clue what "Shaft Frequency" or "CPM" meant--which is basic, fundamental knowledge for any professional custom club builder. Instead of finding someone who could help, a female manager got on the phone and dismissively said, "We don't do that here," without any professional explanation or courtesy.For a shop that claims to offer custom building and has high ratings, the lack of technical knowledge and poor customer service over the phone is shocking. They just wanted to take a blind online order without ensuring proper spec matching.If you are a serious golfer looking for precise, high-end custom work or frequency matching, save your time. After 20 years of being dormant, I made a return to golf. A friend suggested I come here for a fitting to see if my current set could be improved upon. The process was a little nerve-wracking for me, actually seeing the data on my swing - sometimes the truth hurts. My fitter had the perfect personality for this job; low key and respectful ( despite some awful swings ). He helped me down a path based on the data and was open to my observations as well. Between the two of us, we did pick a new set of irons. The numbers were just so dramatically different compared to my current set and I hope to be playing for a number of years in the future, so to me the money is well-spent. with the new clubs. My experience here the first time I went in was not a pleasant one. It might have been because it was during the thanksgiving week/sale and they were busy. As a beginner golfer, I didn't feel like the service and attentiveness they gave was present- I just felt tossed to/fro different club options without full explanations. At one point, I had to flag someone down for help even. I left the first time empty handed. The second time I came back with a friend. He's gotten his clubs fitted here. The service the second time around was night and day. With my friend's recommendation, I took home a set of fairly priced Cleveland blooms for women. Tyler did my fitting and he was super friendly and very knowledgeable I highly recommend! I am very tall and have a big swing so I require quite of bit of custom adjustments in my clubs. Spent over an hour hitting 5 or 6 different models. We went over all of the relevant numbers from trackman and I decided to pull the trigger on a fresh set of Vokey wedges and Ping i530's (a model that wasnt even on my radar). So the key thing about Plaza is the word trust. So many Big stores with high turnover rates among employees are just there for the quick sale. This is especially true when it comes to clubs and custom fittings. Under Todd's supervision, I just bought a new Driver. Full tech fitting and hitting experience. We established a base for my old driver and they went from there. Great brands, shafts and tech. After hammering numerous balls with multiple variations of this gear. I bought the one that match my needs best. Todd was outstanding in his role for "dialing" me in during the whole process. I have purchased from Plaza several times over the years. They continue to be professional and top notch in all facets of golf gear, equipment and accessories. Something as important as new "sticks" or a driver can only be justified by the word trust. Best golf store ever!! I went in for a fitting with Tod and not only he did he end up telling me that my current shaft was good enough. He made a few adjustments on my driver. And gave me some tips that has improved my consistency dramatically. I played the following day and shot my best round of the year. Was soo happy that I scheduled an iron fitting with Bob and once we went through a few measurements and test swings he showed me my current irons didn't need adjusting and showed me a few changes that made a pretty significant jump in distance. This is by far and away the best golf store in LA. I came in after snapping my driver shaft (not on purpose) and under a time crunch to get a new one before a tournament the next day. Though the team could not assist with warranty (I have to go through Fujikura - annoying), they did everything to make sure I was able to get a new one. John scheduled me for a same day fitting over his lunch break, and did not rush me through the process. I hit three different club heads, 4 different shafts combos. John was super knowledgeable, patient, and I ultimately found the perfect fit. The above and beyond customer service did not stop there - I needed a new shaft as the stock options were not good for my swing. I selected a new Ventus TR black shaft and the team at Plaza Golf regripped, and cut it down a half inch (Short Kings FTW) and I was on my way with my new club - SAME DAY. I have never hit the ball straighter off the tee, and I'm sitting at the top of the leaderboard after round one of my tournament. Bigger Does Not Mean Better. If you want to get better plaza golf is the place to go. The big box stores might look nice and glitzy, but they're really made for the beginner that doesn't know any better. Big box stores don't have many customization options for your swing. You have to go with the stock shafts the manufacturer comes with. Todd is one of the best in the business nationally when it comes to club fitting. He takes the adequate time to fit you appropriately for your swing. I got fitted twice from other stores and it was wrong. It's also nice to support a local business owner that has been around for decades. Pricing is on par with the big chains. Why go anywhere else? read more
