One of the coaches , Allison, saw what was happening and quickly jumped into action to make accommodations for my daughter to wait til the big group did their lesson and then came and worked with her directly. If I could give the Lakeway Swim Center 0 stars, I would. There are serious problems here with some…read moreof the users, but lifeguards and managers refuse to deal with them. When they do, they shoot the messenger and protect the guilty. There is one woman lap swimmer who nearly everybody is afraid of. She is as mean as a snake. She has been lying to people about me repeatedly. She called me an asshole to my face in front of others, for no reason. She has been pissed off because when people ask to share my lane, if they have plastic paddles I ask them not to use them because I have been hit hard by good swimmers and it hurts. You can look it up- injuries and pain from plastic paddle hits in lap pools is a known problem. Yesterday an obviously competitive swimmer asked to share my lane. At first I said ok but then I saw he had plastic paddles so I asked him not to use them and I told him why. I was polite and so was he. He went to another lane. Next I saw the woman talking with the lifeguard- this is what she does- she befriends the female lifeguards then manipulates them into coming after me. Next, a guy in the middle lane starts talking loudly for all to hear saying "everybody has to share". He too obviously was upset at me. I have never spoken to the guy. I think he may have also been manipulated by this terrible woman. I corrected him. I said that I have no problem sharing, but I have a problem with the plastic paddles because they hurt when people hit you with them. He accused me of poor arm control, which was a lie. When sharing I always stay far on my side, and I never swam with this guy. Then I see the lifeguard standing near me with the assistant pool manager, who until recently, I thought was a friend. They were whispering. I said "Hey, come here. I want to talk to you about what has been happening here. Only the assistant director came over. I told him exactly what had happened. He told me that I cannot ask people not to use plastic paddles. Today I got a call from the pool director. Before he could say anything, I said- I am going to tell you what really happened. I told him the true story. He said that was not what he was told by multiple people. Clearly, the others were lying- probably repeating the lies the old woman told them about me. Before that, I offered to never occupy an entire lane, to demonstrate that I have no problem sharing. And I said if anybody asked to share with plastic paddles I will give up my lane and share with somebody else. And I said if that is not good enough, you can give me my money back and I will never go to your evil pool again. So that is the situation. I have more horror stories about the Lakeway Swim Center lap pool but thats enough for now. The best example I can give of what Lakeway Swim Center management and staff, and some lap swimmers, did to me recently, is PUBLIC LYNCHING. Yes, you read that right. No doubt about it, if these beasts had had a tree and a rope, they would have hung my ass! Do yourself a favor- skip this evil hell hole

She was so nervous when we started at Waterloo and was up to her old tricks again with the "potty excuse", but we got the BEST teacher for our little girl. Ms. Ashton is AMAZING. She's fun, playful, sweet, encouraging, AND balances it with teaching and pushing my little girl. I'm amazed at how Ms. Ashton keeps track of where each kiddo is at in terms of their skills and what they like/don't like. She is patient and an absolute gem. I cannot rave about her and Waterloo as a whole enough. Just a few comments about Waterloo - we have had an amazing experience. From 2 of our kids being tentative to swimming to now loving it and seeing all the growth in their swimming is incredible. Today I watched one of my kids swim the length of the big pool and do a flip turn. There is no way I can do that as an adult. I'm amazed at not just the skills they are learning, but also the attention to form and technique. So very grateful to have lessons at an indoor pool, indoor seating for parents, and such kind staff (from teachers to the people who man the info email box).

This class really pushed him to the next level and within 6 months our son was jumping into the water staying several seconds under water and floating on his back. He loves the songs and props and always talks about swim class and reenacts it at home. Jaide has been a phenomenal teacher, pushing the students just enough to get them to improve each week. She also knows when to be more sensitive when they are experiencing fear and needed to go easy that day, ultimately building trust with them. We have also had makeups with Sami, Bella, and Isaiah and they are also phenomenal with the kids. Such a talented team at Emler - you can't go wrong! Miss Tiffany, and the ISR method itself, are really in a class all their own…read more I have three kids; over the past 3 summers we have tried two of the most "popular" Austin swim instructors, both of whom use the "put 'em in the water and make 'em figure it out" method. If you read reviews of these swim providers you see terms like "brutal" used a lot, and for us it was exactly that, for me and the kids. While it didn't traumatize my oldest, it was am miserable process for us both. Worse, after 2 weeks of lessons, my middle child literally refused to go near the water for the entire rest of the summer (and he is not a particularly sensitive kid). Just as important, for both kids (I was not ready to put my youngest through those lessons at that point, given what they entailed), while they could "swim" at the end of the week/2 week sessions, I had zero confidence they'd ever actually be able to save themselves from drowning. In fact, they spent so much of those lessons swallowing pool water and vomiting it up that I was afraid they'd have exactly the wrong response should they fall in the water alone. The great news is: Miss Tiffany completed turned all of this around. After a 6 week session with her, not only could my 2/3/newly 5 yr olds could all legitimately swim / float / swim (including in both summer and winter clothes) significant distances, but they all loved the pool! We did not have a single traumatic day in 6 weeks - no child cried, soiled himself, or vomited, all of which regularly happened under the stress of the previous methods' lessons. Miss Tiffany is SKILLED. She is clearly highly trained, with proven methods. She is patient, gentle, and firm. The kids not only respect her but like her (and so do I). Because she gives them skills and confidence, they also enjoy swimming and want to do it more frequently. She has an ability to see what each child needs and provide it on an individualized basis. I cannot recommend her highly enough, and we are and will continue to take regular refresher courses with her. The kids are *thrilled* with that plan, and I'll be forever grateful we found her. She has completely changed our family's relationship with the water.

I watched her interact with several different children of different ages and comfort levels, and adjust her approach accordingly, while remaining patient with each child's individual needs. In our case, the challenge was not crying but instead overconfidence and an above-average lung capacity. This made our little guy more resistant to learning the turn-over-and-breathe part of the process. But Miss T. kept meeting him where he was, and challenging him a little more each time. Now, I'm glad to report that we have a little ISR swimmer, and a whole lot less nervousness (and a lot more fun) when we are near a pool.

Their format is very organized and the instructors have no more than three students each session. We don't have to waste time with signing up for one class and waiting weeks before they can start the next level - even if they're already ready to advance. Instead, Flying Fish has specific goals for each level and each class your child can advance to the next level. Skill updates are provided by email by the Deck Leader during class as each child completes their skill. The instructors will likely be different for each class and they all do a nice job with the kids and follow the same routine. The facility is nice with large observation windows and plenty of chairs to watch outside the pool area. There are also a few elevated tables/chairs and guest Wi-Fi. There is a play area for little siblings to stay occupied or for some playtime before class starts. Showers, changing rooms and restrooms are available for families making it easier to get multiple kids cleaned up and dressed after class. A swimsuit dryer is available so you can spin their suits and not take them home sopping wet. Swim accessories are available for purchase - goggles, swim diapers, swim caps, etc. in case you need something quick. Overall, I am satisfied with our experience here, but there are pros and cons to keep in mind. Pros: - Some teachers are excellent. - With kids that have water fears or are struggling, there is a secondary teacher that steps in to help. - Teachers are typically patient and compassionate. - Strong curriculum. - Generous makeup policy for missed classes. - Clean pool Cons: - Very expensive - 4 students to 1 teacher ratio for only 30 minute class time. - I have to follow up constantly with staff on evaluations and determining whether she's ready to move up a level. I wish they'd be more proactive about this. - Crowded waiting + changing rooms. - Difficult to get in touch with (no one answers the phone here).
