terrible. we've struggled with them essentially since enrollment. wasn't so bad when she was with ms naomi- we liked her. our daughter liked her- learned a lot. she didn't inundate with multi step directions for a 2yr old and didn't spend 10 minutes at the beginning of each 30 minute class explaining the lessons for the day. we were switched to a class for older kids without notice- which was frustrating and had us scrambling to accommodate with schedules last minute. but since the switch- instructor ms kelly- let me say... terrible. she spends at least 10 minutes at the beginning of each class explaining the goals of the day to 2-5-3yr olds when the class is only 30 minutes long. whether or not your child is potty trained- you're required to wear some special diaper they sell to prevent accidents. again- doesn't matter if the kid is potty trained or not. kelly is passive aggressive in providing instruction. doesn't meet the child where they're at with comfort in water. often tries to take the child from you to demonstrate (our kid hated this and would adamantly say no) to which point i had to also tell kelly no because she was persistent. overall kelly is your classic 'mean girl' but in an adult body. nitro also states no bandaids, whether or not a wound is present, because they get stuck in the pool filters- which is what i assumed filters are for.. So all that to say- no sense in paying $120+/mo for months and months so your child can be no more comfortable in the water than if you guys did it on your own at home. do not recommend. read more

Why is anyone satisfied with paying for a 30-minute lesson when their child may get a solid 6 minutes in the water swimming is beyond me. This establishment has figured out how to get paid to literally do the bare minimum. The teachers are great, too bad the business model is so poor. Really happy about this place. Staff is awesome. Our daughter showed up petrified to be around other kids and try something new for her first class. One of the coaches , Allison, saw what was happening and quickly jumped into action to make accommodations for my daughter to wait til the big group did their lesson and then came and worked with her directly. Our children took classes at Nitro swimming and learned a lot in one year. The coaches are top notch and genuinely care about their students. They teach correct technique and water safety, but they also teach good sportsmanship, goal setting and helped my kids build self confidence in and out of the water. The coaches were a great influence on my kids and made swimming a lot of fun for them. Coming here was the highlight of our week. We signed my kids (ages 5 and 7) up for Nitro 1 to get them ready for a neighborhood swim team we wanted to participate in. We had previously tried swim classes at another indoor facility as well as other places. Nitro made more progress with my kids in a few months than another swim school did in years! I love that they teach to your child's level and don't keep them in the same level for months on end. The kids move through stations at their own pace-so they don't get stuck doing the same thing over and over without progressing. While they might have different teachers every week , all of the teachers have been fabulous. My five year old did get stuck on a station for what we felt was a long time so we spoke up to manager. The manager pulled my daughter out during her lessons and then monitored her classes to give her instructors tips since she needed a little extra help. We were so pleased with the customer service! The only negative I see about nitro is their makeup policy - it is very strict. But I understand as their classes are full they can't have people canceling last minute all the time. We've continued our weekly lessons over the years, progressing through Nitro 1 and 2, and we cannot recommend the swim school and their "Summer League Tune-Up" enough. My daughter has excelled so much. As a former D1 swimmer, it was important for me to find a facility that would develop her skills and provide a path to competitive swimming if she desires that one day. After sending our son to lessons at Nitro for the last few months, we're happily moving on from them. Some of the bigger reasons we're moving on: They switch the instructors every week so you're at the luck of the draw with the instructors. Some are really great but some aren't. If your child likes routine this is especially bad. Their make up policy is terrible. You need to let them know 24 hours in advance of the class so if your child wakes up with a fever, or stomach bug or any other emergency you're out that class. Dealing with management is a hassle. In every interaction we've had with them they've come across immature and childish. Some small things: The waiting rooms is tiny and cramped. It's like going to a football game climbing over people to sit down. Class change over is just chaos, made worse by the fact that they only have two family changing rooms There's no communication between the instructors and you so if you want to work on something with your child you need to try to get it from them read more

My daughter has been learning swimming at Nitro since fall 2023 when she was 4.5 year old. The lessons are well designed. The most impressive part is all the coaches that we met. My daughter randomly refused to get into the pool for no reason, or cried for a specific coach, etc. .. Coach Emily and Coach Kyle are always patient, play games with my daughter, help her calm down and feel safe and comfortable. All the coaches in water are also really nice and encouraging. We have loved being at Nitro, we can notice how every day and with each class our son advances in his learning of swimming techniques. Going through the different stations of each level has not always been easy, because they represent a challenge for the children, and I have loved the support and commitment that the coaches have had to help overcome the challenges that my son has had. Several months ago when I enrolled both my children, the paperwork said billing takes place on the 20th of each month (image attached). I called on the 18th about unenrolling and was told we paid through the end of the month so could wait to unenroll. I trusted the woman behind the desk. I thought she was providing me with accurate info so I didn't unenroll for the following month as I was waiting until the end of June. Now, 4 days later I'm told I was charged on the 20th for the following month and was refused a refund. So now, we've paid for two unused months. I don't expect to be reimbursed for missed classes. But the fact that I wasn't told I need to unenroll when I called two days before I was billed for the following month is just poor practice. They could've simply been decent and refunded the recent charge since we clearly aren't coming back this month or next, but instead they kept our money. I am not interested in doing business with a company that provides misinformation then charges me and refuses a refund under these circumstances. Please consider this before choosing Nitro. Also, the owners response accuses me of wanting to be treated differently. I don't expect special treatment. I expect to receive accurate info when I call and I expect the agreement I signed to be accurate across all documents (apparently the 15th is a billing date in another document). I also, yes, expected them to make an exception and refund me since I called about unenrolling before I was billed and was told I did not need to at that time. I expected decency. read more

We love Nitro! I started taking my 6 year old, Max, to Nitro 1 in May once x week. He quickly started moving through his sub-levels. Amazingly, Nitro offered 5 class packs throughout the summer and we booked several sessions. This really helped kickstart and get Max's swim journey in gear. Fast forward to August 1st, Max has already graduated to Nitro 2. He couldn't have done it without the Nitro team of coaches. I applaud the coaches. While they are hyper focused on the safety and training of all the kids in the pool, they still manage to give my kid the individual focus and attention that he needs. Max's smile says it all. My take away is the style of coaching. Coach Kyle never let Max give up. He saw his potential and drilled in on it. He made sure Max was going to successfully graduate to Level 2 before summer was over. He and the coaches even took extra time with him after class. It's been awe-inspiring to see. Max has applied his training into our own home pool, which really puts me more at ease. My 3 year old, Ace is currently in Nitro 1 as well and having just a great of an experience. We love the Nitro Swim School and had the most wonderful experience this past year. My Daughter, Leonie, was always greeted by name and was given huge high-fives from Thomas, the pool Manager. She always felt so encouraged and absolutely looked forward to her swim lessons. Every time she moved up a level Thomas and staff would help celebrate her and she always left her lessons with the biggest smile. We tried Emler, and while they also have an excellent program, Nitro was a better fit for our needs. Having been an experience Master Swimmer myself, and I grew up in age group, I was impressed with the owner Mike's ability to communicate with the kids and get them to learn how to swim, quickly. Leonie especially loved when he and Thomas were in the water instructing her - they were straightforward and she understood what they wanted What I loved the most is their safety protocols to confidently teach Leonie how to swim, and be safe in and near water. My daughter has now graduated to their intro to swim team, and she is thriving. She looks forward to her practices and loves her new coach, Dave. An extra bonus is that all my old swim coaches from Chicago know the Nitro program, and they each were thrilled that we were part of their team and program now, too. Nitro swim is AMAZING. Highly recommend over Emler and YMCA programming. We have tried all 3. My 4 year old started in Nitro 1 and was absolutely terrified of swimming and pools, Coach Thomas, and the team of coaches, were/are so gentle, patient, and understanding. The first 4 weeks she started the lesson resisting even going into the pool room, in tears, and by the end of the lesson she was smiling and laughing. Not only has she overcome her fear, but not she is beginning to advance through the stages. My 11 yr olds started in Nitro 2. They are progressing through the stages nicely, I love how the coaches really make sure that they have mastered each concept of swimming before passing them to the next stage. Nitro, as opposed to other programming, really teaches them the concept and movements as pertaining to competitive swimming. They are now in Summer Rec, learning skills needed for Competition Swimming. Even though the class sizes seem large, there are multiple coaches and the coaches are skilled at providing individualized attention to students whilst managing the larger group. So glad we tried Nitro, worth the drive, and the quality of services are well worth the money! read more

I cannot say enough about Nitro, their philosophy and their staff. I had thorough research for months before deciding to enroll my 4yr old son, and though it is quite a drive for us who live in S Austin, it is very much worth it. My son hadn't known how to swim, not even float. After just 2 months at Nitro total, he's already working on his backstroke. My husband and I are incredibly grateful for all Nitro has done, in particular, Kyle. Kyle is a phenomenal swim instructor who has connected with my son in a way I couldn't be more thankful. He has a special way of working with children and this is definitely his calling. My son looks forward to attending his classes and I have seen a different level of confidence in him. I have two children taking swim lessons at Nitro in Bee Cave. I've been so impressed with Nitro's lesson format. Class size varies, but generally speaking, my girls have about a 3:1 student/instructor ratio each week. This works well for both children because they get a good amount of swim time and rest between laps. Any time I've had a concern about either of my children's progress through the swim stations the Swim Manager, Kyle, has been quick to engage and respond. While most of the instructors are fantastic, Kye really stands out to me. He is so precise and confident and intently focused on the children while in the pool with them. Each time my girls work with him, I see their confidence in the pool soar. Overall, we've had an excellent experience with Nitro and their Swim School Team. read more

This review is specifically about Nitro Swimming Bee Cave Swim Team. The rating would be 4-5 for many of the coaches - the overall team experience is the cause for this low rating. "Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child." At Nitro Swimming Bee Cave, one coach decides your child's path in swimming. She decides their path early (8-9 years old) and makes the group advancement and placement decisions. Often the question: Does she think the child is sparkly and shiny? It does not appear to be malevolent; it simply appears some children are invisible and not seen. It also appears in attempts to aquire a team TAGS banner - about the current season and not about development of the individual swimmers and team. There are more unseen than those who are seen. The parents of the seen are often those who write these reviews and comment on social media. The unseen and the parents of the unseen remain quiet other than sharing stories with one another and leaning on one another - a sense of team can form. It is generally thought that the owners do not appreciate or respond well to feedback. It is also a possibility that the owners' lack of presence on pool deck at practice and at meets prevents them from seeing the big picture. And it is possible the owners are shielded from some experiences shared with coaches. What happens over time to a group of kids when starting at 9 years old (or younger) the coach repeatedly and constantly favors a select few, not only citing their swimming abilities but also their personality and other things outside the pool? This repeats for 2-3 years with the same coach and the same kids. ...and then, depending on the swimmer path forward with next group coach, it can continue for more years. As this path continues: Practice sets focus on the favored, coaches coach only in front of their lanes, constant praises, more stroke feedback, every award and write-up is about them, shout outs in social media, referring to them as favorites in writing even, seed time manipulation of home meets to benefit them in heat assignments (not a benefit for the swimmers bumped down from their earned heat assignment or the other swimmers in same heat), actual feedback during swim meets, setting lane assignments to benefit their practice using other teammates to race and then showering the favored with compliments and feedback regardless of the outcome, openly favoring them in races in practice and meets, 'ribbing' the unseen at times if the favored beats them, invitations to restricted or select meets for which they do not meet the stated requirements, repeated season accolades and awards, turning a blind eye if they demonstrate poor sportsmanship or are mean or disrespectful to their teammates. Some continue to swim, and then embody and promote the atmosphere. Some of the unseen adapt to race angry with resentment. Some will begin to dislike and quit swimming. Some will move clubs. Some will find another coach to "rescue" their strokes and psyche. What are the long term effects on all of these children, including the ones that have had glitter and sparkles dusted in their prepared path? The true measure (rating) of a coach, a team, or an organization is its effect and impact on all its members. read more

This is the only show in town and they certainly act like it. We put our two year old daughter on the waitlist for a couple of different timeslots on Saturday mornings. We waited approximately 3 months for an opening. To the point I'd forgotten we were on the waitlist. We got an email at 10pm on a Monday saying we have until close of business on Tuesday to give them an answer. Because my wife and I work jobs and we're trying to raise two children, we can't drop everything to address this on a Tuesday morning. We discussed on Tuesday afternoon and by the time we reached out to them on Wednesday morning, they said the spot was full. Sure, we have a responsibility to meet their 8 hour window, I suppose. However, this is the definition of customer support. They care more about filling their spot and getting the registration fee than they do allowing us to take 20 minutes, when we're free, to figure out if this schedule still work for us. In my mind, it shows a complete lack of customer support. It would have changed nothing for them to allow us an opportunity to make a decision in an appropriate amount of time (two or three days). We're not going to spend another 3 months on the waitlist. They've lost a former customer and I'll gladly tell anyone I know they don't really care about your customer experience. read more

Nitro has accomplished the seemingly impossible: teaching my twin four-year-old boys (who were initially not necessarily "excited" about the prospect) how to swim! All of our instructors have been patient with the typical 4 y.o. boy antics. They definitely gave Dom a run for his money in the beginning; but he's been so good with them, that he's now their favorite! Way to go, Dom! Thomas, the awesome floor coach, does a wonderful job of keeping things running smoothly, and updating parents of progress after each class. He's even been incredibly accommodating to our perpetual lateness (twins are hard, ya'll!). He often allows the boys to stay late, when possible, in order to get their full half-hour in. Thanks, Thomas! All in all, I highly recommend Nitro if you want your child to learn to swim at their own pace (so as to avoid the ever-dreaded "trauma" of trying to force them toward something they're not ready for). Nitro's methodology works wonderfully, and our twins are advancing at their own, individual pace once they've mastered a skill. No one-size-fits-all at Nitro, which wasn't our experience at another Austin swim school. Bonus: Nitro also gave us a free opportunity to visit Santa this year! Thanks for providing that sense of normalcy to kiddos that don't fully understand why so many things are "different" during the pandemic. read more

This place has it dialed in with staff/operations but it just takes way too long for your child to learn how to swim (we went for 1.5 yrs). Not enough 1-on-1 attention (only 10 min per kid of actual practice, 3 in a group with one teacher for a 25 min class). Cost is pretty high considering. I pulled my kid out & put them in a weeklong intensive and BAM she was a swimmer! read more

This place is a complete money grab. You pay $100 monthly for once weekly 25 minute classes and have to jump through hoops to withdraw or get a makeup class for absence. During a pandemic- calling to let them know your child was sick the night before or morning of didn't matter. Ridiculous. My son did not learn any new skills either. My purpose in writing this review is to help someone make an informed decision. This is just our experience. I am a mom of 5 kids. Both my husband and I grew up swimming for various teams and competing under the USA swimming body. While the way nitro conducts its lessons are great, the people and business practices are a major deterrent. The registration fee is very expensive per child(we had 3 at one time) and their billing practices treat you more as a cash cow than a person or member of their team family. We had an issue where we didn't realize there was a billing discrepancy between nitro and our bank. That apparently happened in 2019. No one called or told us. No one tried to communicate or fix the problem. Only when I called to check on lessons for my 3 year old was I informed of this issue and told we were not allowed to return. Even after we asked to fix any issues or pay any balances they informed us we couldn't even pay a balance or tell us what the supposed balance was. they also informed us they don't call about balances when a bank is involved. (We did direct deposit) Which is why we didn't know there was an issue for the last two years. The close proximity made them worth overlooking the way we were treated by management as a number instead of a person. However this extreme example of impersonal business and a lack of connection to us as people made it important for me to let my neighbors know that while the lessons and team are technically good, their approach to communication and business leaves a lot to be desired. I want more for my kids than people who look at them like dollar signs. A team family is important to us. So we found Georgetown to be a wonderful family for my oldest 3 on a team and Aqua tots in cedar park to be extremely friendly and open communicators who love our kids! read more

Nitro has been amazing and very accommodating. My son started in Nitro 2, last summer and is now on the swim team. Both my daughters are in Nitro 1 and working through graduating. My schedule has been so crazy and moving around with my children going back to "in" school, then summer starting. I was waitlisted for the Monday evening and the Wednesday evening in order to accommodate my son swimming on team. They were very helpful in notifying me when the spots opened. Not even just 1 spot, I was waitlisted for 2 spots for both evenings. I was accommodated. I have had only 1 issue arise and it was easily solved asap. I actually drive from very far South Austin just to have my kids in Nitro. There are many other options very close to me, but Nitro is one of the best swim schools and teams. I completely agree with every aspect of Anthony N.'s review below. Many aspects of the setup make the experience very uncomfortable for me and my 5-year old daughter, who has been taking lessons at Nitro for a year. But beyond my own comfort level, I have several issues with the structure of the lessons. Nitro guarantees a ratio of no more than 3 students per teacher over a 30 minute lesson. In each little group of 3 students, the teacher will work with each student in turn while the other two sit on the side of the pool. This means that in the course of a lesson, my daughter gets 10 minutes of actual instructional time and 20 minutes of sitting-on-the-side-of-the-pool time. I drove 30 minutes to get there, man! And then spent 10 additional minutes navigating the awful, cramped changing area! For 10 minutes of actual swim instruction?! No thanks. On at least one occasion, my daughter was so bored, she hopped into the water while she was waiting for her turn, when the instructor was halfway across the pool and not looking. At the time, she was not a capable swimmer. Not safe. My daughter is hesitant with new people, as are many kids. She has to deal with a completely new instructor almost every week. By the time she begins to feel comfortable with the new instructor, the lesson is over. My daughter has gotten stuck at certain stations for weeks and weeks, practicing the same skill every time and being made to feel like she is not succeeding because she has not "passed the level." There is almost no communication about your child's progress or what skills you could work on at home to reinforce what is going on in the lessons. I would so much rather pay two or three times as much and have a guaranteed instructor who is the same every time and who adjusts the lesson so that students build on skills every time and feel confident and safe in the water. read more

First, Coach Kelly is the absolute best swimming instructor and the kids love her. But buyer beware, if you do not log into the parent portal EXACTLY 24 hours in advance to log an absence...you will be charged for the "unexcused absence" and explained the very convoluted process etc. Hence profiting from the client. The only time an "excused absence" went smoothly was when someone at the front desk did it for me, which the staff has been instructed not to do. To rebook an excused absence there's another process the day off...if they answer the phone. The last swim school I used was so user friendly (and had amazing tire floors to avoid all the slipping I see at Nitro). Everything about this place has been a chore for me, starting with the sign up over a year ago through now. We've stayed longer than I can tolerate about the above because of Coach Kelly. read more

I love the Bee Cave facility. The coaches are great and my son has had an amazing experience swimming on the bronze team. It was a real pleasure to find such a fantastic program (rated a top USDA Swimming club) that holds practices after working hours so that normal parents can get their kids into the great sport of swimming. The facilities are fantastic, the staff is great, and the head coach/owner is incredibly engaged in the practice sessions, actually getting into the water on occasion to help the kids. He clearly expects a lot of his coaches and respect from the kids. He gets both. I would say that the dressing rooms are too small for changing clothes but I have my son go with his jammers already on so it's really not a problem. I would recommend Nitro to anyone. UPDATE: My son has been having problems learning butterfly. He is upset about it and I asked his coach about getting lessons to help him learn. I received an email telling me to not pressure him and he will just magicly learn butterfly when he is ready. The coach put several other coaches on the email. Posturing I guess. I replied to all that his input was well received by me. Clearly he is a coach and not my sons father so I expect him to understand his place in this whole process and not overstep. Tonight my son told the coach that he doesnt know how to do butterfly and he was told "It doesnt matter. You will do it anyway". Nitro has done an awesome job and fortunately lots of other clubs are cropping up to replace them. read more

Love Nitro! All the coaches and staff are amazingly friendly and knowledgeable. My 4 yr old is always looking forward to her swim class every week. She has become so confident in the water in just a few weeks. I like how the Stations are structured to include both safety and swimming skills. Also the fact that the pool temperature is warm enough to feel comfortable. Skill progression is easy to track online and they do offer makeup lessons.
