Waterloo staff and facility is hands down the best in Austin area. The instructors are awesome and really take their time with the students.

Every person has a place to be. Managers walking around, double confirming and keeping additional sets of eyes on the water. Each teacher following a well defined script, they have thought of everything. We enrolled our son when he was 14 months and are nearly a quarter of the way through the 14 week semester. Each week, he has shown improvements, from ability to hold his breath to moving his legs under water. The instructors keep track of different metrics to make sure each kid continues to get better every week. Our class has 4 other kids, which has been the perfect number. We've been extremally happy with the Water Babies class at Emler.

TLDR: If you're with Emler for only 1 year, you will have to pay TWO years of 'annual' registration…read morefees. In terms of the swim lessons at this location, they've been great with my kids. We've taken them here on and off for about 7 years now since the kids were old enough to get in to the water. The instructors were kind and patient, and while there is a good amount of attrition, some of them have been there as long as we have. However, they (Emler as a company) started getting greedy in the last two years or so. What were free makeup lessons if you missed a class turned in to tokens you could purchase if you missed a class. They started instituting registration fees, which have only increased over the years. The final straw was the (currently) $40 *annual* registration fee we paid per child was not annual at all. They put a policy in place saying that annual registration fees are due on the anniversary month -- meaning if you register the children on the 30th of May, your registration has to be paid again on May 1st of the next year. Usually people are starting the schools whenever their classes start, which is not on the first of the month -- so after a year, they will attempt to charge you for the next year before the current season has even finished. It's fine if you plan on continuing, but not fine if you don't and just want to finish out the current season. In our case we were not going to put the kids in for the summer because they would be at a camp that had swimming in it. Emler still wanted us to pay for an annual registration fee, despite us having two more weeks before a full year had passed since our last registration, them only having 3 more weeks total left for the season, and with us telling them we did not way to pay for a year of registration when we knew the kids would not be there for 4 months. We opted to just withdraw the kids and we'll look for a different swim instructor after the summer is over. It's a shame that a 7 year relationship with them came to an end because of them forcing people register kids with less than 3 weeks left in the current season, even if they didn't need swim for the next season or two. All to get $40 more per child. I'm just happy I did not set my payments to auto charge my card or I wouldnt have noticed this.

Today, at the reception desk, there was a woman by the name of Amy, she was delightful, and although I had a boatload of paperwork to do, she was very helpful and answered all my questions. She then walked me over and showed me how to sign in electronically with my new membership card, (which I was so grateful as now I will know how to do it without addl. assistance) and not worry about checking in! I then took a walk-through the facility paying special attention to the pool areas. Amy had advised me that there was Silver Sneaker Exercise Class at multiple times two days a week, but there was an extra fee attached to it. Once all my paperwork was completed I went walking down the halls to check out everything that was in progress. The pool area is very nice. Very clean with lots of options , there are lanes open in the big pool for lap swimmers. There are classes that happen in the big pool and lessons. I decided it was worth the $40 a month to take the silver sneaker therapy pool class. As It will help me develop a routine. On my way out. I saw a display of T-shirts in various colors and sizes that all had the YMCA logo. I decided it would be nice to have one so I found my size and took it back to the desk where Amy checked me out. She also helped me complete the forms necessary to take the class and made sure they had room as there are a maximum of 10 people , ensuring that you have a good experience. I'm very excited to start tomorrow. I told Amy she really is an exceptional representative of the Twin Lakes YMCA as her customer service is exquisite!!! More to come......

They are professional, safe, and focused on feasible goals for my kid's age of familiarity and comfort in the water. The teachers were calm and encouraging and worked with the fact that sometimes my kid loved being in the water and other times didn't want to get in. They are very available for calls by phone to work with parents on makeups or questions. I didn't feel able to give a full 5 stars since there are some things the school could improve on. We often had a different instructor each week, which I admit was a bit hard for my kid feeling nervous in front of a new person (the pandemic and being isolated hasn't help with people skills meeting new teachers so I know this is exacerbated to this year). But even besides that, the different teachers often didn't know that my kid was in their class, we would walk up and they would act surprised, oh they are in my class too? I think there could be better communication between the instructors and to the instructors, and a better job encouraging the kids at the start of the lesson (e.g. give us your name at least!) Secondly the temperature of the pool at the Marriott location is inconsistent. Sometimes warm, other times cold. If this could be fixed it would be very helpful for the younger swimmers. I think these are things that could be easily improved on to make the experience even better. Overall I am happy!
