I really hate calling this a "haunted house" because its soo sooo soooooo much more than that. It's more like a "theatrical experience" where you feel like you've just been placed INSIDE a freakin' horror movie. My adrenaline and heart raced from the beginning to the end. Yes, you will be touched, pulled and grabbed but NOT tortured or put through any pain! You may have to run, hide, crawl and jump out of windows (no joke). So if you have any injuries that'll prevent you from being able to do these things - you probably shouldn't do this. Also, we got reeeeally dirtied up at the end of it - so definitely wear something you don't mind getting stained or dirty. I 100% recommend this to any thrill seekers who want to experience more than just your typical haunted house. Trust me, this is something that you won't be able to compare to any haunted house you'll ever do. You'll most like brag about this experience to everyone you know, like I did for the past 2 years! Even though the name is McCully Cue (I think?), I want to hesitate calling this place a pool hall, though there are 5 tables. There are other game machines lining the walls; and it seems most people come to play those. I recall pool table day rates are $3/hr or more; and more in the evening. The tables are medium fast, and the surface is hard - really sounds like rock on rock rolling sound. I think the house cues were decent; I remember being able to get some good draw sometimes, when I used them. Seems very strange to me that there is a Korean church on the 2nd floor of the building? The other customers who play the machines and hang out here really give this place a cave of thieves feeling. But they will leave you alone and just go about their own business. I think one of the cashiers is named Sandy, and she keeps everyone in line mama-san style. Even though the bathrooms are right in the open, you need a key to open the door. One time I was there - someone was bothering Sandy for the bathroom key. Finally she gets fed up and yells at everyone in the place: "It says return the key to the desk! I have to say this was a good scare. The costumes, props and effects were spot on. Many places are super dark like you can't see your hand 5 inches from your face. I had to take creepy small steps just to feel my way and get through this. Actors were professionally made up. it was difficult to tell if it was a dummy or not. I'm not one to scare easy but this place got me to jump twice. They have learned well how to guide people to the positions where they want them to be to get a good scare. And then when you think it's over, it's just like the in the movies. It ain't. hahahahha Some food trucks are set up in the parking lot so you can grab a bite to eat. Parking is across the street at West Marines. They have security there too for the safety of your vehicle. $15 will get you in but we decided to get the $20 Fast Pass to bypass the line. Special thanks to Kevin for setting this up again this year. Highly, highly recommend everyone going to check this out. Well worth it and better than most of the haunts out there.

My husband and I went to the Mayjah Rayjah 2013 Concert last night. We had a great time. Even…read morethough we are on the 'mature side' and didnt know any of the artists. I wanted to do something totally different for our 28th Wedding Anniversary. We sat on the over 21 side (the alcoholics side) as they were affectionately known throughout the night . We chose this side only because it had a better angle to the stage. We got there really early but didnt need to really. We were first in line at the express entrance because we bought a Groupon for the concert.. There is really no need to arrive early and line up for hours we discovered unless you really really want to sit right down the front on the cement step near the stage. There is more than ample room to put your blanket down and relax and watch the show and the stage can be seen from anywhere. We sat on the first path half way up the hill just near the sound desk and it was perfect. By the end of the night though we had a lot of people standing on the path behind us but that didnt happen until about 11.30pm. I am a watcher and I watched the ample ample amount of security guards, no one seemed to be misbehaving even on the 'alcoholics side' and everyone was having a great time dancing and singing. You cannot repeat CANNOT take in anything other than a blanket. I bought 2 stadium seat thingys with the padded seat and back attached from Walmart for $18, they were well worth it as we sat on the grass for 7 hours and hardly got a 'numb bum'...... Each bag is checked thoroughly, every zipper was open and searched. Large backpacks are not allowed in and what was allowed in were completely searched as well. The drinks were overpriced, water, sodas were $3 each but the food was reasonable. 2 Hawaiian plates, rice with salad and chicken or chili franks were $8 each so not too bad. We didnt have any alcohol so not sure of the price, but previous yelpers say it was expensive. They were selling the large cans of Bud Light and looks like mixed drinks as well. Overall it was a fantastic night. If you dont want the noisy revelers sit on the under 21 family side but if you want an alcoholic drink you cant go back over till its all gone!

This was a 5k night run at Kualoa Ranch. Some people (probably because they didn't read the…read moreinstructions didn't register) didn't get a headlight. If you didn't have a light, it probably was a little more challenging as this was at night, hence the name "Nite Run." Right from the start one of our friends got injured as she didn't see the cattle guard and her foot went through the metal bars making a huge bump on her shin. What was messed up was that the other cattle guards were coned off to avoid them and to go around but not the first one. I felt bad for her but when she said she was going to suck it up and still do it I kicked some dirt on her and said see you at the finish line. I'm joking, I just kicked some dirt on her. Like I said the run was a 5k. It was for the most part on a dirt roadway. There was a pretty steep part that kind of kicked my butt. I thought I was going up Koko Head for a minute. Argh, Kill me now! lol They said there were supposed to be some kind of brain test or something as well as strength test which they had. I believe they went over the question and what the correct answer was supposed to be but what looked like a place they might have had someone asking you a question, there was no one, no one anywhere which was a little disappointing. Maybe next time they will have something. Another thing that was disappointing was that you didn't have to do the strength test and made it optional. One was you had to grab a sandbag (maybe around 10lbs) and carry it and go under a couple of beams. Next one was walking on rope (around 20'). It did get bottle necked as some people took forever to cross and when some fell they ran back and tried again. The wait time was around 12 minutes or so. They had at least 5 different lines. They also had another type of obstacle course... If you remember the movie Pretty Woman when they were on the Polo Field and the announcer says to "avoid the Steaming Divot." That's right, there were horse manure here and there that you had to hopscotch around. As most know Jurassic Park was filmed there and one part of the course you could hear dinosaurs in the background. Just thought that was cool of them. Maybe if one came out I would of ran faster. I heard that they ran out of some headlamps and t-shirts but was able to get more by the time people finished. Water stations were around the course. Free water, gatorade. At the end they brought out some free desserts. Had a couple of food vendors, music, Mc, and acrobatic act. Pretty fun event, especially when doing it with cool people.

Recently did the "Nite Run" at Kualua Ranch. I have to say, I LOVED it! It was not only fun (at…read morenight! Headlamps! Costume contest! Obstacles! Cows mooing LOL!) BUT it was pretty tough!! After doing the Glow Hawaii Run the night before (easy, shorter than advertised) it was nice to be able to really push myself and race. The trail was mostly dirt road but there were areas that were gravel road, grassy areas,etc. Started up a hill, did an obstacle, more killer hill, followed by another hill. Didn't expect that! Race was also longer than a 5k, didn't expect that either LOL! ;) There were a few cow patties and cattle gates so just trying not to break an ankle kept me really paying attention to where my feet were LOL. The whole set up was great. Great food venders, plenty of potties, easy packet pickup and we parked pretty close to the race area so heading back to the car was easy if you needed to put stuff away. NO FEE for parking. Loved that too. So many races make you park far away, pay for parking, pay to "store" your stuff they give you at the race,etc. I loved that I didn't feel nickel and dimed for this event. I purchased it as a Living Social deal and it was easy-peasy to get my tshirt, headlamp and number. LOVED that we were all chipped, gave me more incentive to run and try to get a decent time. They did run out of headlamps w/batteries (LOL) but we got there early so we got ones w/batteries. I'd definitely do this race again. I can't wait until they plan another one!!

My company hired Treasure Hunts Hawaii (THH) for roughly a 2-hour treasure hunt. Based on Yelp…read morereviews, THH seemed like a good choice and a lot of the employees were looking forward to participating in the hunt. Keep in mind, the company I work at has a little less than 60 people coming to this activity held at a beach park. THH was pricey, so we had high expectations. I know, for me, I thought it would be a hunt filled with tough clues (the type that can really stump you), running around with a sense or urgency, different paths for the different groups, and worth the amount we spent. The day of the hunt came and everyone was super excited to see what we would end up doing. There were two people from THH that set up the area with clues and would give us instructions on the actual hunt. It may be due to my job, but I wish they gave us the instructions BEFORE the hunt to prepare and we could become familiar with the instructions without worrying about being behind other groups because we were busy reading the rules of the game. Anyway, I remember distinctly that we were told that groups were given different clues and, thus, different paths, since we had more than ten groups participating. There were three parts to the hunt - the actual treasure hunt, scavenger hunt, and trivia. The hunt was fun to do, but the hunt did not meet expectations and I felt that we could have done the hunt ourselves. The reasons for the low review: - all the groups had the same clues, so we had the same path. Read: it could have been follow the leader - one group figures out the path/clues and everyone else follows. - the clues weren't that difficult to decipher - one clue was wrong (quick math question - what is 3 to the power of 0...it's not 0) - the scavenger hunt could have been explained a bit more or to be consistent with applying the rules. For example, we were asked to bring a rainbow. Keep in mind, unless it is stated, it cannot be a picture or video. I found out that points were given for a picture of a rainbow. Overall, the one star is because the company's services were expensive and that set a level of expectation that they didn't meet.

Two individuals from THH came to start the hunt. The hunt consisted of a trivia portion, scavenger hunt and the actual hunt. They were not the best communicators and many of the teams were unsure as how to proceed; it was kinda like here are the clues and here is the trivia sheet...go and do it. They suggested that a good strategy would be to split up.....I thought this was supposed to be team building. For the most part the trivia was pretty easy as you could use your phone, etc and seemed to just be a pointless time filler. The scavenger hunt was mediocre at best.. There were also loopholes ie you could just go and buy many of the items on the list...stickers/clothing items etc. The treasure hunt was also nothing special. Most of the clues/items were just spread out over a large distance. If it was in a smaller area all the teams would have probably finished in 10 minutes. Most of them involved you solving some type of basic riddle etc for a clue then walking to the next area. Overall, after reading the positive reviews on Yelp, myself, along with the many of the participants (we took a survey) were disappointed with the overall experience. Honestly, using google and some common sense most anyone could have done what THH did and for much less money...our fee came out to over $2,100 for 2 hours of 'fun'!!!!! -- that didn't even include the cost for prizes for the wining teams etc. all of which we had to provide ourselves. If you are looking for a good group/business activity I suggest you look elsewhere.

Once upon a time, Hawaii had no comic conventions. Back before cellphones, tablets and Apple…read morewatches the closest comic book fans came to an organized get together was at the "Hawaii State Comic Collector's Club". Meetings were held at the Moiliili Public Library on a semi-regular basis. Fans of comics, horror and syfy movies had a place to gather, share and compare thoughts and experiences of the latest news in the world of fantasy. Mind you that this was a time when back and forth instantaneous communication was only in the form of telephone, telegraph and shouting over your neighbor's fence. This was the 1970s. Fast forward to 2019. Hawaii has now hosted many entertainment conventions, one of which is the Comic Con Honolulu, a home grown produced annual event which gives fans a chance to match up with like fans and meet people involved in this segment of the entertainment industry. Some thoughts regarding this Con: Smaller than the Amazing Comic Con, they feature a large area devoted gaming in the main hall. They take elements of both the Amazing and Kawaii Kon (celebrity photo ops, artist alley, cosplay contests, panel discussions, etc.) They have the usual assortment of dealers selling related merchandise but seemingly, not as many as the other Cons. Just sort of less of everything but still pretty enjoyable. There were some vendors that seemed out of place for this con: T-mobile, ATT and vacation time shares, really!? Enjoyed seeing the King of Tokyo, Godzilla game play. A fan made oversized game which looked like fun. It's always fun to see the cosplay and this Con was no exception. The time and creativity put in by the cosplayers is something to behold. Less cosplayers than Kawaii Kon but still enjoyable. The con even had cars detailed with anime themes. Servco even had new Toyota corollas on display detailed with their newly created super hero theme- a fun campaign to market their latest offering. Definitely a smaller crowd but it, in some ways has a more local "feel". Was sort of a spin-off of the Kawaii Kon which focuses more on anime. 3.5 stars for this con, enjoyable without a wow factor. Will say that this con gave me more of a reminiscing type feeling like when friends would get together back in the day at the comic collector's club. Mahalos to Emi and Yelp for the free pass to attend the Saturday event. A nice way to spend a warm and muggy summer day.

First time visiting Comic Con Honolulu. We came fairly early to check it out. Plenty on…read moreoffer--artist alley had vendors, artists, and celebrity autograph and photo ops. We spent most of our time here, just hanging around the booths and talking story with the artists. I wish there had been more local comic vendors, but it was great to pick up some original work from local comic artists. In terms of the panels, a good assortment, although more anime and video game oriented. I wish there had been more TV, but Hawaii is more oriented toward the anime set. Cool cosplayers and plenty of fun to be had. However, the prices are certainly high, especially considering the parking cost and the cost for autographs and photographs. At least make the parking free.
