I was very excited to try out this new restaurant but unfortunately i had a very sub par experience. Alexus was our server and one could say she was very lack luster... I don't usually write below average reviews but i felt a need to give my feedback. Two of my friends were told that we needed to get out of the bathroom when we were only in there a few minutes, and i wasn't aware there was a bathroom time limit... interesting. We walked in and there was a line for tables but multiple bar seats open. I asked the group of standing patrons if they were waiting for table or bar, all of which they said they were waiting for a table so I assumed bar seats were first come first serve (as most are) and started walking towards them. At that point I was almost physically pushed back by the host who told me I needed a reservation whether it be bar or table. He was exceptionally rude and made feel incredibly unwelcome as if I had done something wrong by assuming open seats were available but NOT for ME. I've heard amazing things about the food and beverage at this place but based on this experience I would NEVER go back and would not recommend. read more

We had a wonderful dinner out on the patio over the weekend. Perfect weather and setting. Definitely recommend giving them a try if you enjoy Italian food. Everything we had was delicious. I started with the salad and my husband got the radish salad. We split the pasta and I got the tile fish and he got the pork. I'm not a fan of pork but I tried it and it was so tender and had the best flavor. Our friends got the anchovies, Veal/Tuna, Pasta and tile fish. We finished with dessert... We split some antipasti, a primi, each had our own secondi and then finished with the bunet -- don't sleep on this! Everyone comes for the tiramisu, but this dessert hit a homerun! Best meal I've had in Richmond in quite a while. Felt like I was in Europe. From the greeting at the front (getting us a table inside due to quick thinking regarding a no-show), to the sommelier, to the waitstaff all were warm, attentive and professional. Complimentary anniversary sparkling wine was a nice touch. Amazing wine list & recco. Cocktails invective and delicious. Vibe was cool but not too cool. Meal, presentation, quality and flavor amazing. 2 people can easily rack up over a $300 bill but I'd you're ready to splurge it's worth it. Only ding would be the chicken which was nice but a bit too salty. Depending on your income level Lost Letter is a splurge but a memorable one. Pretty darn spectacular. read more

This was my second visit to LOST LETTER. My first experience was impecable...great food/beautiful presentation and great service. Unfortunatley/I can't say the same thing about my most recent visit. The ambiance of this restaurant is lovely/so no problem there. However/the service was very lacking to the point we felt ignored. We had to ask twice for wine service and then were made to wait 10 minutes for someone to finally arrive with the wine. But the food was the biggest disappointment. We got Insalata di Lattuga [12.] This salad was not much more than what you would grab off a shelf @ Whole Foods. Carota Arrostiti [14] Several poorly presented either overcooked or undercooked hard carrots that were flavorless as well Polenta [8.] Mushy and bland/served with very good bread...double blah Pea and ricotta agnolotti [21.] This was very tasty /but don't plan on making it a meal as it was about 4 bites worth of food. So/we were all very disappointed. I might try it one more time/as we were so impressed with the first visit...but it was a pricey disappointment this time around. t read more

Thrilled with this new iteration from the Longoven crew. We have gone almost every week since opening and it's always delicious. The menu changes frequently and literally everything we've ordered has been a delight! Last night we tried the cod and it was the most delicious preparation of the mild fish I've ever eaten - baked in a tomato and pepper sauce with fennel and olive over the most delicious polenta. The service was perfect from the moment we walked through the door. The hostess was friendly, polite, and knew we were celebrating a birthday. The waitress showed up at the table with water and menus almost immediately. We ordered perfect Sazeracs [Their bartender is actually from New Orleans.], along with some incredible bread with a peppery olive oil for dipping. My dining partner had the rockfish, which must have been the best thing on the menu, as I can't imagine anything better. Melt-in-your-mouth good. I had the quail. Seasoned perfectly with crispy skin and very tender meat. Their house wines paired perfectly with the dishes. We had the best tiramisu either of us had ever tasted for dessert. They offered us complimentary pours of bubbly to celebrate my dining partner's birthday. She said it was delicious! (I had to pass, as I was driving.) The table service could not have been better: timely, but not hovering, and all our needs met. We enjoyed being seated within view of the open kitchen. I always enjoy that show when available. The Lost Letter dining experience is an absolute "must do" whether you are from the Richmond area or visiting from afar. Everything from the greeting at the front entrance by the hostess, until the last bite of the absolutely incredible desserts (Tiramisu and Torta Di Nocciola) was as top notch as there is!! Atmosphere is fantastic in every way. Wish the food had matched. The anchovy starter was delicious. The rabbit terrine was bland and severely lacking. I was not served any bread with it. There was bread for the table but a terrine should come with bread to spread it on. The ravioli was 4-6 pieces on the plate. We dine regularly with world famous chefs, where bursts of flavor are so fantastic that a small plate like this is fine. This ravioli was not of that standard. It was ridiculous. I loved the budino fig dessert. It was my favorite dish of the night. The tiramisu was good, but very strong on the coffee flavors. After dinner coffee was also fantastic. Overall, this is a good place with potential, but not extraordinary. It is too $$$ for what it is today. read more

Overall, I want to start by saying food was good, but someone has to do something about the hostess that was working this past Friday night (she was wearing a polka dot dress). From the moment she walked in she had a rude attitude with us. We told her we made a reservation for 6 and accidentally made a mistake a need 7. Now, I understand different restaurants have different rules, so we're not complaining about the rules at all, but more so the way she came across it. Her response right away was "well, that's $75 minimum per person, so stay if you want to or you can leave". We didn't care about the minimum spend but the way she was coming across made our entire table feel uncomfortable. Whenever we spoke with her through the night she just seemed unwelcoming and uninterested. It's unfortunate when food is decent but for nearly the majority of 2 hours the table is discussing how rude and unwelcoming the service can be. After agreeing to the minimum spend we started placing our orders and they said they didn't have anymore of the one of the apps we wanted, but I guess we are still required to spend $75 per person. That being said our server that we ended up getting was actually decent, but the main hostess' attitude definitely ruined the night for us. read more

From first glance - overall, the ambiance is carefully curated, which is respectable. Moving on to the experience once seated: service was tolerable, but only barely near what one would expect based off of both the persona the restaurant aims to imply, and the reputation of Longoven, as well. During the entirety of our meal, we did not receive a single bite check. To reinforce this statement: we ordered four courses, and multiple drinks. In that regard, better service has been received at restaurants of much lesser quality (cuisine-wise). It was observed that this style of service (or, rather, the lack thereof) was not maintained at every table. While regulars and VIP guests deserve great service, all other guests should expect and receive the same. The star of the evening-Tagliarini al Ragu- was very reminiscent of what one would consider a meat sauce made by one's Nonna; comforting, and favorably familiar. Sadly, the Tilefish was slightly tough, and dry. Overall: would we come here again? Most likely, though not frequently. The pricepoint and preparation of the food combined is something of value. However, it left us with a rather lackluster experience. read more
