A normally consistent Pegasus dropped to a last choice restaurant last Saturday night. A group of 6 celebrating an occasion had 7p reservations. In the past, it has been a great place for an admittedly older clientele, the acoustics and table arrangements are such that you don't have to yell to be heard. Intimate, but not so close you hear the table conversation next to you. The food was the normal enjoyable. What there was of it. 7p on a Saturday night at a restaurant that I am sure gets more reservations than walk-ins, a half empty restaurant and they ran out of staple proteins. No shrimp, no steak, no clams (several menu items prominently feature clams). The server, Amanda, was apologetic and very good. The manager could care less, was not apologetic, leaving us with the impression that it happens regularly, and he would rather watch tv at the bar. It was unfair of him to put his servers in the position he did. He should have come to the table at the first hint of dissatisfaction, not begrudingly after being respectfully summoned. Pegasus has been around for a very long time. If you go, do so on a Friday night or before 5p on a Saturday. No blue plate special but maybe they will have what you want. read more

The interior is charming. Other reviewers mentioned the noise level - it IS a very loud restaurant. Be prepared. The food was good, but definitely overpriced. The service was not at the level one would expect for the price of the meal. read more

Pegasus did everything right for our party of 8. We were seated promptly and had plenty of room. It was a bright sunny evening and they thoughtfully had the blinds adjusted so that we were not cooking in the window. The server had plenty of patience with our conversations that distracted us from decision making on dinner and apps. We never felt rushed. The server described the specials from heart, and when asked gave his accolades to several entrees. When our party got serious about ordering, the server was helpful and on task. Multiple people provided table support. They kept us well supplied with water and drinks. All of the dinners arrived at the same time, and delivered to the proper person and were hot and delicious. There is a wide selection of entrees and apps (including several vegetarian choices). Prices across the menu are reasonable. The Greek sampler appetizer was excellent and had plenty for our table. You'll be flying high at Pegasus, named for a Greek mythological stallion with wings! This somewhat intimate restaurant has been in RVA for decades. The first thing we noticed was the sea of silver and gray-haired clientele. So while our kids are in their late 20's, hubby and I fit right in. The next thing we noticed is that is is super loud in there and we were fortunate to get a corner table which helped with the sound! We felt sorry for our frazzled server, Sophia, because she really has her hands full! She was zooming from table to table with plates for of food and she seemed quite overwhelmed, although she was extremely apologetic and pleasant. They need more wait staff to accommodate their customers properly. She missed some of our drink orders, was slow bringing our our bread basket and a few other things, but did the best she could. For this reason I almost gave this spot a 3, but the food took it up a notch. The authentic Greek cuisine was on the money. They also had some Italian options. A burrata dish was chosen for our appetizer which was a mound of mozzarella with tomato and spices. Most of the entrées came with soup or salad choices. I opted for the avgolemono soup which was mildly lemony with chunks of chicken; it tasted homemade! The salads came out and they were pretty small-sized portions but adequate since the main courses were fairly hefty! I chose the rosemary chicken which came with Greek-style green beans and a light rice pilaf, plus I ordered a small side of fettuccine. The rosemary chicken was incredibly tender and the garlicky sauce was superb! The fettuccine Alfredo was delish too, not swimming in a cream sauce like many other places, but delicately coated so you could really taste the flavor of the cheese and the noodles! Other dishes ordered were eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, and Mediterranean shrimp. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. We shared a tiramisu for dessert which was light and tasty. The prices were reasonable and even though the service was a bit chaotic, we still had a nice evening! I'd like to try it on a week night when it's not so busy. I normally keep my reviews pretty positive, but yeah, Pegasus Restaurant does not deserve the positivity. Decent-ish food, pretty awful service. It became apparently clear to me & my friend as we finished our bottle of wine before we ever got to place our food order: if you're not a regular at the Pegasus Restaurant, you may as well not bother. When we finally got to order, we were informed the kitchen had no crabmeat so two of our options were out. In addition to that, our waitress never addressed that she'd be gone for 20 plus minutes without checking on us, and this was before we ever had our entrees. By the time we actually got food, neither of us wanted to be there, as we had filled up on wine & rolls out of necessity. The salads were measly and overdressed. The Grecian Spaghetti had no flavor other than olive oil. Lastly, our waitress brought the check without returning the credit card, because she had lost it... they spent a good few minutes searching around for it before they came clean and told us. Our first time trying Pegasus. What a disappointment. Hopefully they were having a bad night. The food was good, but it took forever to get drinks. It took forever to get salads and it took forever to get our food. On top of that, it was about 80° in there. Four of us went here to celebrate our sons birthday. None of us had been there and wanted to give this place a try. It is a fairly small location tucked away in a strip mall type set up on Patterson. There is a small parking lot in front of the store and we had no issue parking there. Two of us got there early so we had a drink at the small bar area. The bartender was a nice guy. They had a fairly large liquor selection, a decent wine list for options and canned/bottled beer. No beer on draft. The house Merlot was quite good. Our waitress was a nice lady but getting to order took a while. We were seated with drinks and an appetizer before we got her back to order entrees. The greek sampler is a good thing to try. For main courses, two had baked ziti which they both said was very good. There was a fettucine alfredo ordered and I had the special of grilled swordfish. My best friend and I wanted to try a new place, we picked out two, flipped a coin, and let it decide which we went to. The original choice does not have dining and is take out only, so we went with Pegasus. Pegasus is a family owned establishment that is VERY well decorated and is obviously a great place for a date. Our waitress was friendly and informative, and had tried many dishes. I took her recommendation for the Rosemary Chicken, which I instantly loved from first bite. My friend got spaghetti with meat sauce but requested they use penne. They clearly fulfilled this, evidenced by the photos. They have this amazing ice cream there that's a combo of chocolate, strawberry, and pistachios. It sounded like nothing I would like, but we tried it and it's AMAZING. The only bad thing I can think of is the sides that came with my meal seemed like an afterthought compared to the main dish. I chose to forsake them after trying a little of each (Seasoned rice and green beans with tomatoes), and just personally didn't find them to be my cup of tea. EVERYTHING ELSE was on point. Ordering it was quick and easy, picking it up was super simple, and the food was delicious. The portions of the baked ziti were so big that we could have just split one, but it was nice to have lots of leftovers over the next week. To some Pegasus may be considered a hidden gem located in the Westhampton neighborhood off of Patterson Avenue near Willow Lawn Drive and Libbie Avenue. To those who dine their frequently, however, it is a five star restaurant with three star prices with outstanding food, service and ambience. Pegasus has literally become the neighborhood go to restaurant. We recently ordered the baked ziti, grilled salmon and chicken piccata and gave each high marks. We were excited about going to Pegasus for dinner with friends. (2 couples). It did not take long to realize that if you were not one of their regulars you did not get the same service. Service was terrible! After two hours we had only cocktails and appetizers, our main course was still not served. We asked the waitress about our meals and we were told "it will be another five minutes". We paid for the cocktails and apps and left. What made this worst was all of the table that were seated after us received their apps, salads, meals and checks and we were still waiting to eat. It was obvious by the action of the staff that they catered to the regulars. One waiter spent about five minutes plus talking to the patrons next to us having a good old time while we waited. We counted four tables that were seated after us and were served and finished while we waited. Whenever we needed something we had to flag down our waitress. Let's talk about the food we did get to eat. The Avgolemono Soup had good flavor but was 90% broth with little substance. The fried oyster appetizer was very good and cooked perfectly. We ordered anchovies on our Caesar salads and we each received one small sliver of anchovy. I wish I could review the main course, but as mentioned we left after a two hour journey. We ordered takeout about two hours ago I'm literally writing this as I'm eating because I'm THAT HEATED. So we ordered a lamb shank, which came very very skimpy looking... no idea as to why it's the price that it is. My fish was good but we ordered an order of calamari..... i took it out of the bag and opened the box and it looked like it was half eaten, it was cold, and there were like 7 full pieces and like random piecey parts in the actual box... I AM SO SORRY?! i was really looking forward to eating it but it looked too sus for consumption. I called the restaurant and got the hostess I guess, who was incredibly rude and unapologetic. Did not say sorry ONCE, had a massive attitude... for no reason. She was defensive saying "the owner's wife boxed it so idk what you want me to say" sorry but this is unacceptable customer service and i will never go back to this place again. The food is very good and of high quality. Unfortunately some material improvements are necessary. Such as new menus that are not torn and dirty, matching high quality silverware, a better air conditioned space so that the restaurant doesn't smell stuffy when it has several patrons. If you happen to look up you will notice the ceiling requires repair. This spot is a bit of a hidden gem! We went on a Tuesday around 7:15 and I was surprised how busy it was - it's a small space so I could hear the wait staff chatting with some of the tables and quickly deduced that a lot of the folks were regulars. I had the chicken parmigiana with mashed potatoes and my husband had the chicken Marsala. We both enjoyed the dishes and highly recommend saving room for dessert! Seriously hands down one of the best and underrated restaurants in town!! Yes, it doesn't have the swankiest decor or the hipster tattoo waitresses but who needs that when the food tastes so fresh, made to order and delightful. We started with the calamari which tasted like it was caught this morning and barely fried with an amazing traditional tzaziki sauce. I ordered the lamb kebob special which was again fresh, mouth watering and amazingly tender, no knife required. Our son ordered the scallops and asparagus which were tender and delish. Their portions are enough to share or bring home for lunch the next day. The hubs had avgolemono soup which is a Greek lemon chicken soup and had the perfect combo of lemon and rice with hardy portions of chicken and spanikopita. This review is soley on Pegasus' greek salad, which I think is great. I typically get it to go. Get the small version, add chicken, and you have a healthy, satisfying meal. The rest of their menu looks great, but it's at around $20 for the average entree price, I have yet to give it a try. The ambiance inside isn't that great (white table cloth, mostly much older folks, inside a strip mall), so I can't give it 5 stars. But, if you are ever in the near west end and looking for a good greek salad (and an alternative to the Crazy Greek), check this place out. read more

We were surprised Pegasus had minimal reviews. It's a quaint little restaurant in a nicer strip mall. The decor and atmosphere are nothing fancy but the food and service are great! We had 6:30 reservations and were by far the youngest people in the restaurant (we're early 30s.) Median age was 70ish which would explain the lack of reviews! I always know I will love my meal when I come to Pegasus! Its def busy with regulars of all ages and sizes. My faves are the Avoglomeno soup, the soft shell crabs (when they have them) the flounder, the greek sampler. All the pastas...literally everything is tasty. I recently found out that they don't do delivery directly, but third party companies will pick up for take out. So heads up that Pegasus isn't responsible for any delivery issues, in case you order take out through places like Doordash etc. read more

We tried Pegasus for the first time for dinner last Saturday. Our waiter told us that most of the patrons are regulars who come multiple times each week for years. We were the only people in our 30s and most patrons appeared to be in their 60s or 70s -- it had kind of a country club feel. But we were out for a nice dinner and not looking for anything raucous. My fiance and I split the tzatziki (app), spanakopita (app), and shitake bowtie pasta (main course and comes with a house salad). It was no problem to split everything for us and it turned out to be way too much food -- we took home leftovers and ate a total of 3 meals out of it! The vegetarian options are limited here, lots of seafood and meat entrees, but that's what we would expect from a Greek/Italian restaurant. We enjoyed the vegetarian combo we ordered very much and I would recommend that vegetarians focus on the Greek veggie appetizers. I also had the California sauvignon blanc which was very nice and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back -- maybe we'll start a new guard of 30 something regulars. read more

I must tell you about a miserable dining experience my family of four endured on a recent Saturday night at Pegasus Restaurant. We had reservations for 6:30. The place was very full when we arrived. We were seated almost immediately and the waiter took our drink order. He explained the specials. We ordered. We were served 70 minutes later. When I noticed a table of two who were seated long after we arrived, eating their meals, I asked to speak to the manager. She came out several minutes later, with our plates, and I asked her about the intolerable delay. We had ordered three plates of pasta and the seafood kabob special... no big deal. I was told that the kitchen is small and that they were very busy. When I asked about the couple next to us already eating, the waiter said that the kitchen assesses the order of delivery based on the complexity of the meal... easiest dinners are prepared first. What could be easier than pasta? When I suggested to the co-owner/manager that the least she could do would be to offer my wife a complementary glass of wine, she sourly said to me, "If we had to comp drinks just because we were slow, we couldn't stay in business." She never offered an apology, free dessert, nothing. The ultimate blow came with the bill, when my dinner special, which was not so special (3 shrimp, 2 scallops, onion, tomato, green pepper on a stick) was priced ten dollars higher than what the waiter told me... $26.00 not the $16 or $17 he quoted... I did not take it out on the waiter. He got a 15% gratuity from me, because I figured as rude and snotty as his boss was, and as slow as the service was, those things would negatively impact his income enough. The food was tasty and hot. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The Caesar salad was a wimpy, wet joke, with a single anchovy about an inch long as the garnish. I wouldn't have served that salad if I was home alone. We will not be going back, and I can tell you, there are many more places to eat in Richmond, with better food and prices, without the arrogance, insensitivity, and rudeness of the co-owner at Pegasus.
