Drove about 1 1/2 hours to enjoy some breakfast, but sadly got there shortly after they stopped serving it. Came so far at this point had to try what I could get. BTW I suggest watching the movie "7 days in Utopia" before you go. You'll enjoy the restaurant and town just a little more. Anyway the service was ok but it's a small town and you've gotta just slow down and take it in. The food was just ok to me nothing special. It's worth a visit. The place has some great ambiance and people watch the locals. It's where they eat , but then it's the only restaurant in town. read more

I LOVED THIS PLACE! It's so cozy and they decorate for holidays and seasons. I feel like it's straight out of a cutesy country movie in here. This place is also so clean and smells so good. Servers were very nice and helpful. ALL of the food is served fresh. Immediately on first bite you can tell it's all homemade and made deliciously. We got the chips and salsa it was to die for. The steaks and patty melts have incredible flavor are tender and juicy. The onion rings and okra are fried perfectly. Lastly the salad was made with yummy fresh vegetables. It's a 10/10 for me. Waitress was really great and food was good. I didn't care for their regular burger but what was SPECTACULAR was the Lamb Sliders. We got them as an appetizer (it came with 2) and were just blown away. They should offer a regular lamb burger because it was DELICIOUS. Cooked perfectly with Tatzatziki sauce on it. My husband and I went for breakfast and the hotcake I ate was delicious. The syrup was also really good. He got sunny side up eggs, sausage patties, a hash brown and a biscuit. We highly recommend stopping by. We were so hungry that we forgot to take a picture of our food. We didn't enjoy the little mixup upon receiving our plates. The waitress took our food to the table across and brought their food to us. She quickly realized it and switched our plates. Amidst this pandemic, those kind of mistakes make me paranoid that I just ate someone else's germs. We just said a quick little prayer and ate it without being total Karens about it. She also mixed up our tickets. Luckily they charged us what we ate, but I think the other couple that paid before us paid our ticket which was less money than their was. read more

Best fried fish I've ever ate. We sat outside, our waitress was a very nice young lady. I have noticed she works harder and friendlier than others. We were the only Asian walk in the restaurant. Nobody greeted us, even we stand in front of the cashier lady (whom doesn't wear a worker matching shirt like the others, I guess she is the owner). The 3 of us visited The Lost Maples Cafe last Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 for an early dinner. We were staying at Garner State Park for our annual family weekend & we always do our research before going to a new place to eat. This is one of the 1st times where our due diligence failed us. We will never set foot in this place again-just terrible. Ever heard of 'fake news?' Well there are also 'fake reviews' & that's all we can chalk those previous reviews up to. We were promptly approached by Ashton & his opening line was "are you ready to order?" We asked if we could get beverages 1st. He came back with 3 sweet teas & those were the best of our entire experience. We ordered Jalapeño Poppers as an appetizer & he said they were out so we changed to Deep Fried Okra & he said they were out. We've never had them & asked if there wasn't a way they could make just a couple for us to taste them & he left to ask & came back 5 minutes later with a full order & we were confused but happy. Next a woman showed up to take our order & my husband ordered a large portion of Chicken Fried Steak so we could all share & my daughter & I split an order of Beef Enchiladas so we would have room for dessert. The enchiladas were basic-nothing special but as my husband put it "this is probably the worst chicken fried steak I have ever had as well as the gravy" & he never complains about his meal. He said it is probably the cheapest & the worst cut of meat they could get. He gave us our share & yup, he was right. We couldn't even cut it much less chew it & the bland, flavorless gravy with hardly any sausage in it was awful. Like eating flour mixed with water & no seasoning. We wanted to return it but no one showed up to ask how everything was & they started getting busy & we didn't want to make things difficult during these tough times. Make sure you look at the 'salad' pic we received. All lettuce but we saw other salads going out with chopped tomato & shredded cheese. Couldn't we at least get some croutons, or cucumber or something? We sat there waiting for someone to clear our plates & take a dessert order but no one came & we didn't see our server again. I went to the counter to get help & our server was in the back & she came out & told Ashton to take our dessert order. Yet another mistake-the cherry pie was so bland & we assumed a canned filling was used & pecan pie was not home made. Very boring & crust shows it was not made in house as advertised. 2 older gentleman across from us received their food & Ashton explained that they were out of butter for one of the guys baked potato & he walked away. We had leftover butter packets that we gave the man & he was thankful & said he wouldn't have ordered a baked potato had he known they had no butter. But then not 5 minutes later we see a server getting butter out of the stand up cooler close to us. Then we swear we saw other people eating Jalapeño Poppers but we were told they were out. I think some training of the service staff is in order here as well as how staff is informed when something is '86'ed. (Lost Maples Cafe-why don't you Google that) Overall $65 for a terrible meal is our mistake. Never again. Here it is a week later & we are still talking about it. read more

If zero stars was an option that would be correct. We have been sitting in this pretty empty restaurant for 1 1/2 hours and have not gotten our food. We've had customers come, sit, order, and leave. As I type we still have no food. Our children are here, it's getting close to 2pm. I'm hardly even mad I'm just so so hungry. I can't imagine the quality of the food to be good enough to comeback from this kind of wait. We've asked for our food again and again. The side salad hasn't even arrived. I love small town restaurants as they reflect their town and history. This was no exception. I loved the old building with wooden floors and ceilings and barn door. The staff is very nice, and helpful. The waitress always had a pleasant smile to greet you. The food was good. I had the chicken tenders and initially they looked large. But as I removed some of the breading I noticed the chicken was thin and the appearance was mainly due to the amount of breading. It was still good but the portion was much smaller than its show. It came with Texas toast and fried which was great. My daughter had the burger and she devoured it which tells you how much she enjoyed it. Overall, it was a great place to stop in for lunch. We came to Utopia for a hiking trip and this was the only restaurant that was opened after 7 pm. We walked in and told to sit wherever we wanted so we picked a table furthest away. A nice server came up to us and gave us menus as well as telling us the daily special. The server was exceptionally nice and was very attentive. She even went out of her way to find my husband's soft drink choice. We ordered our food and it came out pretty fast. I had the lamb sliders that were good although a bit greasy. The lamb was well seasoned and had a great taste. My husband had the chicken fried steak that seems pretty good. Overall, it was pretty good food. However, I was super uncomfortable with the dining experience because there was no COVID protocols being followed. No one (except those that were from out of town) was wearing masks and no one was wiping down tables. In addition, there was no social distancing. If we go back to Utopia during COVID times, we'll just order it as take out. read more

I got Campylobacter from eating here. (That's a bacterial infection. People can get Campylobacter infection by eating raw or undercooked poultry or eating something that touched it.) I went in earlier this month, and absolutely no one working in the kitchen or the wait staff were wearing masks, yet Garner State Park employees, just a few miles away, are vigilant about wearing required masks during this pandemic. Also, there isn't any diversity inside that place (it looks like a MAGA rally inside.) So if you're a person of color and eat there, be prepared to receive non-welcoming/suspicious/judgmental looks. read more

Lost Maples Cafe is a must when headed to or from Lost Maples or Garner State Parks or whenever you choose to visit the small town of Utopia. There's a movie based on the town but I've never seen it. Anyway, back to the Cafe- I was ready for some great home cookin and wasn't disappointed at all! There was a smaller menu for the 4th of July but that was just perfect getting the fried chicken. It was moist and crispy. And the homemade potato salad was incredible! I can't forget about the homemade pies either. I was led to the buttermilk and it was rich and creamy. The staff was great too! I'm now trying to find a reason to head to Utopia so I can stop in for more great food!!! read more

Found this place on Yelp after spending the day at Garner State Park. This is the same restaurant in the movie with Robert Duvall. It is unassuming, small town feel, but def not small town food. The fried okra and fried fish basket was excellent. Rest of the fam had chicken fried steak with gravy on the side and loved it. Chicken tenders for the little one was a very large portion. They don't skimp around here. The French Fries were not piping hot, but the kids still enjoyed it. The lamb sliders and BLT were also delish. Their home made pies are worth cheating. Apple pie was awesome. Chocolate meringue was intriguing - not sure what they added to the chocolate, but it did not taste like your average chocolate. No matter. Still tasted yummy. The cherry pie was my favorite with the apple being a close 2nd. The coconut meringue was also a favorite in our group. Parking is on the street. Staff is very friendly. I have eaten at Lost Maples numerous times and it has always been okay. But, on Sunday my parents and I were passing through town and I suggested we stop for lunch. Bad idea. I have been in the service industry for years and therefor I am super understanding when it comes to most things. From what I could gather everyone who works here must be related to another employee, there was 4 waitresses. 2 were a mother daughter pair- don't worry the dad wasn't too far away-he was sitting at a table distracting them both. The other 2 appeared to be sisters based on the way they were hanging on each other. We sat down, and the waitress (sister #1) came right over, took our drink order, brought drinks, took food order, then she never returned to our table. Sister #2 brought our food out when it was ready, after we waited ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES, because sister #1 was too busy arranging the mom of the group to babysit for her the days she had to work. After the food was brought over I couldn't get 1 of them to make eye contact with me so that I could tell them my 1 bean & cheese taco I ordered was ice cold. Did I mention we all just ordered breakfast tacos and waited 1 hour 45 mins. I made a bathroom trip before going up to pay and here comes the dad out of the kitchen. What was he doing in there? No idea but clearly not helping with getting food out. Then I go up to pay and the daughter of the group is there to check me out, if she wasn't too busy discussing with her dad his plans for the day she might have been able to ask me how my food was and I could tell her ice cold and my tea had been empty for 35 mins. Yes, I could have spoke up and told her but at this point observing how they were all so closely tied to one another I felt uncomfortable and felt it best I just leave it be. I don't know if yall have ever had ice cold refried beans, but its pretty disgusting and I couldn't even eat more than one bite. read more
