This restaurant is located in an odd location behind a motel in Bandera. I got the chicken club sandwich, which I really enjoyed. The Texas toast was fragrant, and the flavours of the sandwich blended very well together. My cousin got the fried catfish platter, which didn't have much of a flavour, but he said that means it's a river catfish. He is a catfish connoisseur and liked it. The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. They served us our water and sweet tea in mason jars, which looked very nice, but the water was not pleasing to my taste buds as it tasted like unfiltered tap water. read more

We brought out of town family to Bandera and have always had good food at Bricks, so chose it for lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meals! I had a mushroom swiss burger and onion rings with ranch...so yummy. Cons and the reason for the 3 stars...There weren't any clean tables and the menus were dirty...we saw that there was only one guy seating, getting drinks and serving. I'm guessing he was also the cook, because it took an hour and a half to get our food. Another guy showed up near the end of our meal and was helping take orders. Stopped by on Saturday, 6/28/25 at 5pm. Not very packed and we were able to sit wherever we wanted. We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer. The shrooms tasted great. Highly recommend! My wife had the Fish and Chips. It was fried and seasoned perfectly! I went with the the 6-piece Fried Gulf Shrimp. It came with a house salad. Salad was OK. Would have been better had it come with croutons. Shrimp were big. I went with Mac & Cheese and Fried Okra as sides. Mac & Cheese was in a white sauce. Would probably try the mashed potatoes next time. Came with cocktail sauce and tartar sauce. Would get again. Our server, Caleb was great! Will definitely be back. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review about this place. My first time here, I would've given this place 3 stars. Why? Half my order was missing and the things that I really wanted were unavailable. This place is busy. They have an outdoor patio, a separate sunroom, and the main dining area. One thing I loved was the texas smashed potato. It is delicious. Got it again today. First time, I ate it with the 4 piece broasted chicken. This time, I had the shaved ribeye. Let me tell you about my favorite menu item...fried pickles! They have a slight kick to them. So delicious! Everything I've eaten has been good. My hubby has been telling me about broasted chicken for 13 years and this is the first time I've actually gotten to try it. He ordered a Bulldog burger with fries. The bun is a jalapeño bread and it has pickled jalapeños on top of the patty as well as jalapeño cheese. It has the perfect kick of spice and the homemade bread was so tasty. As you can tell from the photo, the cheese was all melty and creamy. Fries were frozen but fried so perfectly... crispy, airy, and slightly seasoned. I ordered the broasted chicken with braised cabbage and fried okra. The chicken was so juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The cabbage was a nice crisp tender and with a little butter added, was perfect. Okra was extra crispy which is my favorite and no sliminess. Notice all the crispy words?! I'm all about texture. It's a Bandera secret - that's why there's no sign! We thought it was the office for the motel, but this is the restaurant. Pop in if you're looking to cool off! Thermostat was set for 68 degrees, so bring a sweater! The Chicken Club (I got Texas Toast, but you can get it on sourdough; I got grilled, but you can also get fried). Fries weren't hot, so they weren't that good. Catfish platter with 3 hush puppies and 2 sides (green beans & fried okra here). It was a good, but catfish & okra could have gone a touch longer in the fryer. I like mine crispier & darker. Tartar sauce & hush puppies were delicious! A Bandera local took me to this eatery for lunch. We were inmediately seated by a window with a lovely view. The restaurant was very clean and the staff friendly. The drinks came in huge Ball jars. My unsweet tea was just right. The waitress offered extra lemon without us asking. The menu is generous and we decided to split our order of liver and onions with 2 sides and a chicken salad sandwich with cole slaw. They offered to serve our split order on separate plates. When the liver and onions arrived, the portion was so large for each of us that we couldn't even consider eating our chicken salad. I got a side of Texas smashed potatoes, which is a potato cake with sour cream and scallions. My friend got green beans. The liver was smothered in onions and was so tender. My friend ate every bite of hers. We ended up getting our sandwich and side to go. The waitress brought us to go boxes, a bag, and offered me a to-go iced tea all without us needing to ask. Total cost - an amazing $25 plus tip. Of course I was far too stuffed to try one of the desserts on display at the front particularly the pecan pie and peach cobbler. If I had the chance to eat here often I would. If you live close enough to eat here regularly, do it! If you are passing through this cool little Texas town, stop and get a meal here. read more

We left TJ's after we noticed NONE of the staff members were wearing masks, the entire place was PACKED, and there were several large groups all closely seated near each other.... Thanks to Yelp - we found Brick's. Staff members were wearing masks and tables were socially distanced. (I think this is unfair that some business are following protocols and suffering for being compliant). Anyway - We. Arrived. Hungry. As others have posted in the reviews, service is a bit shabby. We stood at the "wait to be seated sign" for 8 minutes. No joke. 8 minutes as the bartender and 4 other staff members continued to walk by us. I finally spoke up after one of the workers literally sat near us and started working on the utensils. Were they waiting for us to change our minds and leave? Lol sorry! We were hungry haha Anyway, I ordered a burger and he ordered the chicken fried chicken. Everything was tasty and well prepared not to mention filling! The green beans were surprisingly savory. This is a good establishment for diner type of food so stick to that. Lots of patrons were ordering burgers. I was very happy with mine. Got here on a Friday afternoon around 11:10 and were the first patrons there. Waiter came and took our drink/appetizer order. Came back and we got our meal order in. Appetizer order took at least 20 minutes and our meal didn't arrive until almost noon. Food was not good. Teens I had with me gave it a 2 out of 5, which was being nice. Absolute worst place to go too EVER The food was disgusting the servers were out by the dumpsters handling stray kittens the. Serving us we sent our food back . Went outside to check on our animals and all staff including the cook was outside by the dumpsters again handling the kittens and feeding them by hand.... Came to Bandera to meet up with some friends and were craving some solid diner food and a good adult beverage. We saw a billboard for Bricks River Cafe and thought it would fit the bill. Set behind a motor coach style motel without a sign on the actual building is the restaurant. We could tell it was a place to eat by the locals walking out with toothpicks in their mouths. Lol It was close to 2 in the afternoon so we didn't feel like we would be in the middle of a lunch rush, but folks in Bandera must eat late on the weekend because the place was busy. Also I noticed that nearly every table had a minimum of four people and many tables had 6+. A lot of communal dining in this little town! While we were sat immediately, it took quite a while to actually get service. I kept having to remind myself that we were in no hurry and we were on Bandera time, not a huge thriving metropolis. In their defense, there were quite a few people and the ratio of people to servers was off. Anyway, we finally ordered good ole fashioned cheeseburgers and a patty melt. I opted for onion rings and very glad I did! They were the star of the meal! HUGE and hand breaded! Fried just right. All of our meat patties were over cooked, although having a nice flavor. The appetizer "Devils on Horseback" is fantastic! It's bacon and jalapeño wrapped shrimp! All of their food is delicious and the service is excellent. They even have live music! Not loud but quite pleasant. I highly recommend sitting out on the patio and enjoying nature while you eat. read more

I gave the broasted chicken 3 stars, my husband gave it 2, so its really 2 1/2. I havent had broasted chicken in years and years so I had to try it. Large portion of 4 pieces but the whole meal needed more flavor. I chose mashed potatoes and cabbage and husband had what looked like frozen veggies. Husband said the restaurant had a nice view of the river but the interior was worn out. Because of covid we are not eating indoors, but still wear masks, no matter what our "governor" says. Anyway the servers and cashier wore no masks which is a definite no-no for us. They forgot to include our drinks so my husband had to go back inside. Ugh. We chose this restaurant to eat at while we were in the bandera area because of its location on the Medina river. I don't know if they were just majorly understaffed the day we went but service was sooooo slow. I'm talking it took almost 45 minutes after we ordered to get our food. Multiple tables around us were complaining and saying they had to leave if the food didn't come soon. Once we got our food it was pretty good American food. I ordered the chicken tenders which were hot and fried fresh. The fries and side of okra were also hot and nicely salted. My husband got the queso fried pork chop and although he said he really liked the flavor and it was something different, it was lukewarm when it was brought out to him. So I'm giving this place three stars because there's a lot of potential but as of right now the execution just isn't there. read more

The food was very good. The service was a bit slow because they were busy and seemed to be under staffed.

We used to eat here regularly. It seems like the owner is not around as much. In the last couple of months we tried it a few times. It is not as clean as it use to be and they either have different cooks, or their food supplier has changed, or both. My impression of Bricks every time I go there is "They are trying really hard". The staff are nice and generally greet the regulars by name but they always look like they are on the verge of disaster. Either they just don't have enough waitstaff or cooks to manage the number of people who arrive on a Sunday at lunchtime, or they are simply slow. The food is average to good and the King Ranch Chicken is particularly good. The hamburger is excellent and that's usually what I get, just because it's good. It's a nice, thick patty and they put it on a sweet roll with sweet potato chips. The Onion Rings are monstrous and you can easily divide them and take some home for an evening snack. Overall Brick's is just a place people in Bandera go. The view out the window of the dry creek bed is nice but the floors in the sunroom are sometimes sticky. The noise level at times can be overwhelming. read more

This place is always on point. I don't understand the mixed reviews, but I guess every business has an off day. I've been here a half dozen times over the past few years and it's always been great. My sister and I ate here Saturday night and it was awesome! The food is great- big portions, full flavor, absolutely delicious. I had the chicken fried chicken with loaded mashed potatoes and braised cabbage, sister had the same sides with fried pork chops. So good! Two large chicken breasts and two big chops meant plenty to take home for leftovers. And the service was some of the best I've ever had in my life! John F took care of us, and he was Johnny on the spot!! We asked for his recommendations and he gave several excellent suggestions. When he brought out our waters with lemon he had two lemon wedges on each glass, as the mason jar glasses are large, and he had straws ready. We never had to ask for anything- seriously! He anticipated our every need. When he saw we were winding down he brought to go containers, including the small cups with lids for the sauces. John even caught the door for us on the way out!
