Course is very pretty but quite hard! I'd recommend moving up a tee unless you're excellent at placing shots. There's a lot to think through and you'll definitely need extra balls. The cart GPS was not synced with actual pin locations. Course condition was good, save for a couple tee boxes and some spongy greens, which made putting difficult at times. Clubhouse has nice locker rooms, pro shop, and restaurant upstairs. Food was decent but not amazing. The outdoor patio is an excellent place to grab a drink and enjoy the view after a round. Overall great value for money, especially with the lower priced afternoon tee times. read more

Course was 10/10 (minus all the water, tough! :)). Experience 1/10. Only writing this review to warn others - Do not go to this course if you are looking for a fun time as the food and beverage Manager, Crystal G., will make sure that does not happen. She confiscated my cooler at 7:30am because it had 2 beers in it, mind you there was water and Gatorade in there as well. She then proceeded to haunt/stalk us on every other hole to see if we were drinking alcohol from outside. After we bought drinks on the 8th hole, from a very sweet kind staff member, she called her to see exactly what we got so she can come check our carts. They also mark every SINGLE can with markers so they can know if you purchased from them. She then threatened us on the 10th hole that she was going to escort us out, which she never did, because we brought the cooler. Obviously she has an alter motive and really gets off on making customers feel uncomfortable. It was a horrible experience and we as a group will never return to Lost Marsh. It is a Saturday, people will bring some drinks in, your a golf course... We obviously will purchase food and drinks from the establishment as well. When we talked to the other members of the staff, it was clear that Crystal just finds joy in this. As a business, you should really check on this. The corny question I ask myself in my Events business: "What would Mister Rogers do?" ...being kind and professional to venues and clients alike. I've done over 700 weddings and fund-raisers in northwest Indiana's finest venues, with amazing owners. While Lost Marsh Country Club has the best banquet food ever, I offer this one star review because of the rude owner...wondering what Mister Rogers would do with him... Reasons include: *Telling me he "Doesn't work with party planners. I'm sorry, but that's all you are. And you're not the one who gets me my money." I was coordinating a fundraiser for a non-profit organization in Lake County. *He "Doesn't care about charity. I'm a business owner, here to make money." As a result, my client's food was ordered based on an estimated headcount that was several months old...bigger than what they needed by the time I called at the 2week deadline. *I called the manager 3 times in the 2 weeks before the event, and she never called me back. She told the Executive Director she wouldn't have laid the table runners if I were the one to drop them off at the venue because they didn't want to work with me. She allowed her staff to take our centerpieces out of the room prior to our guests being able to take them, and (according to my client) "decorated their restaurant with them." When I asked the banquet manager to please return the centerpieces for our guests, and that the staff could absolutely have some too because there were plenty, her response was, "That's fine Jenny, we don't want your flowers." *These incidents (and SEVERAL OTHERS) could've been avoided with one ten minute vendor phone call and a copy of the client contract...which 100% of venues have given me. It's called a BEO (Banquet Event Order) so we can compare back- of-the-house notes with front-of-the-house notes. I was told by this venue that they wouldn't share their notes with me because I wasn't on the contract. I've never been told that. Result: a very inflated bill, unfortunately, for this non-profit agency. A small, 3 1/2 hour fundraising event with a family style meal and 3 hour bar for less than 80 people, walked away with MUCH less money. So if you're planning a fundraiser, or a wedding, the owner won't work with your coordinator. We're just party planners, and we don't make him his money. The greens and par 3's on the 9 hole course is great for those of us getting into the game and practicing our swings. I played the full course once, and found it too challenging for a novice like myself. I played the Joe Lewis course, as well, which was awful. Greens are dried up, not well maintained, and they charge extra if you bring your own caddy ($10). Lost Marsh is far superior. For a public course, this is a nice place to play on weekdays. I wouldn't dine here, as the food at public courses are typically frozen, fast- food- like. read more

What a gem.... We played Lost Marsh this last Sunday and we all had a great time. The course was in great shape, the greens rolled fast and we played in about 4 hours and 15 minutes. From the Pro shop to the cart girl , everyone was friendly and very helpful. One can't ask any more out of a golf club. After our round we hung out on the patio overlooking the course and the city for a couple drinks and the food was incredible. This course is definitely one of my favorites, it's 25 minutes from downtown and it's ran by a great staff of very friendly and good people. Thanks again and we'll definitely be back. read more

One of the toughest and most fair courses in the area. The first four holes are brutally tough. After that the course is unbelievably playable and you can score if you keep it in play. It's a good balance of some gimmicky holes and straight up challenging golf. Only advice is to bring as many balls as your handicap is. You'll need them. The staff is beyond friendly and pace of play was quite good. We got a round of golf in with a foursome in about 4 hours...a touch more. After the round we had a few beers in the clubhouse. The course is fantastic, but the starter was downright nasty. Showed up to check in for a 1:24 tee time at 1:10 so I could at least make a few putts and swing the club a few times. The starter said - okay... GO. And pointed at two other guys that had just teed off. We said we weren't supposed to start for another 15 minutes and he said "well... too bad. You have to go now. There's too many groups and you have to go now". We asked if we could just go off at our scheduled time and again he rudely declined. I said "you don't have to be an a-hole about it. Have a great day". He replied, "no problem.. same to you, f**k face". Hell of a way to spend 60 bucks for an afternoon. read more

Beautiful little pitch-n-putt course near Wolf Lake in northwest Indiana...includes both a full size 18 hole course and a 9 hole shorter layout. Now you won't mistake this course for a challenging championship layout of 6,700 yards or so...rather, it is a short layout built on top of an old industrial dump. This kind of course has been in development in many areas over the last few decades. When cities close a refuse/industrial dump or select brownfield areas they generally are not allowed to build housing developments on the property for years as the ground settles and revitalizes. So the fashion has been to cap the dump with a foot or two of clay, plant grass, and put in a golf course layout to use the property...and it works. Lost Marsh is such a course. It has plenty of water as it backs up to Wolf Lake. And with all the water the course is wonderfully green and fun to play. The city fathers of Hammond built this public golf course probably 20 years ago, and the property now includes a two-story clubhouse type building with a pro shop and very nice restaurant that overlooks the course. They might want to put the course rating/slope on their website if they want too become more of a golf destination. A trip out here is well worth the effort...give this place a try. read more

Every hole is like a new dick punch of backwards golf design that baffles the senses and challenges you to be your most frustrated. Our scores included 5+ hours of bitching, 3 club throws and 1.5M balls lost. If you do not hit the center of every fairway be prepared to bend over and grab them ankles like it's your creepy uncles birthday and hold on for dear life because you are about to be forcefully entered by the shittyness that is this course design One hole literally takes 2 90 degree turns. Second 18 hole round at this course and 2nd time eating supper. The course itself is admittedly challenging yet fun. It is not very forgiving though. Some holes may let you retrieve your ball in the high grass while others claim them entirely. Lots of hazards and tricky pin placements. Overall, greens and fairways were well groomed but some patches of overall destruction at the tee box. Rough is slightly longer than average. Today we had Ana as our supper server. She. Was. Awful. We never once saw her smile...and she only had 4 tables to handle. We had to constantly call her over for refills. When it came time for our check, she forgot to give us our 18 hole discount...when she came back with the new check, she had only discounted my fiancé's portion of the bill. When I went to ask her why mine wasn't done (I had to get up from the table and go find her because it took so long for her to come to our table), she said, "oh, you golfed too?" Wait, huh? I was wearing a golf hat with a clip on ball marker, a golf shirt and golf bottoms. A glove was sticking out of my pocket and a tee in my hair. So, what's the only difference between me and my partner? I'm a girl. Ugh, no apology either? I worked at golf courses throughout high school, college and graduate school....this girl has gotta get her head straight. Also, today, we were backed up behind a 4some throughout the round....at hole 6, we asked the guy who refilled the water jug to send out the ranger to tell the guys in front of us to let us play through....no one in front of them and they were being Chester's out there. They were joking around, sometimes taking 6 shots to pass the womens tee (!), throwing balls, and not playing at a standard pace of play. Surprise, no Ranger ever came. I played in college...I get it when you wanna get out there to play with your buddies, but they had no sense of golf course courtesy. Played this course yesterday at the advice of my golf instructor after a very long time hiatus. OMG what a totally different golf course from what it used to look like. It has always been a challenging golf course but it is in excellent condition now with a beautiful club house. The only disappointment thing for me is that the membership is only Open to residence of Hammond. The street name for this golf course is lost balls there are lots of water and it is always windy. If you are a golfer who wants to hit the driver every time, this course is not for you. It is a course that will teach you course management and make you hit all your clubs. I only lost one golf ball but it is not uncommon for you to buy more balls at the club house. That been said my game is much better than what it used to be lots of years back when. It is not a course for a beginner unless you just want to go to the range but it is a course that will challenge you at all levels. read more

Played here May 19 the course was in great shape even after the 8 inches of rain we had over the weekend. They are set up for distancing re: Corona virus. Everyone there are very nice / helpful / check in no problem; carts are great with GPS screens (help if they could track my ball in the woods). Fairways, sand traps, and greens excellent shape. Course is very playable for all handicap levels. The clubhouse is now open for food and drinks, and is one if the nicest public CH in the area (Frank Lloyd Wright design). Lost Marsh Gold Course has been an absolute GOD SEND to myself and some of my fellow Chicago golfers. We could not get on a course in the Chicagoland area for obvious pandemic reasons so I googled courses in IN as they have been quicker to get back on track. The pro shop staff, cart attendants, starter, and restaurant staff were simply EXCELLENT! Great job by Niko Sullivan and her grounds staff! The course was excellent and in fine shape. Very challenging also. Great drainage especially after a good rain. Myself and my colleagues will continue to play LM for years to come. We have now been 2 times a week for 6 weeks. I'm definitely not a professional golfer but this course will eat up every single ball you bring out of the bag. 90% of the fairways are 20 yards wide so if you don't hit every single shot straight expect to lose a ball. This course is only 20-25 miles from downtown Chicago. Even in rush hours, it only takes 25-35 minutes using the Skyway. I've played here three times in the past two months. The course condition was always great. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are well kept. Kudos to the superintendent and the maintenance staff. The course's design is challenging and will for sure test your patience and skills. Bring extra balls; you'll likely need them. Consequently, five-hour round is the norm here, so invent some games to play with your group while waiting; it'll keep you sane. For a public golf course, the clubhouse is big and really nice. The bar is great, albeit somewhat expensive. The staff, for the most part, is nice and helpful, from the people in the pro shop to the starters and the teaching pros. This place's Archilles' heel, however, is the manager named Ken who sometimes would waltz around the driving range and give disparaging remarks to certain groups of golfers. "Try not to tear up this place", "I hit 100 balls and took less grass than your 10 shots", he'd say as he drives his cart pass people's hitting areas. This guy has very bad people skill for someone who is a manager. He is either too arrogant or simply lacks the faculty to comprehend that not all golfers are single digit handicapers or pros. His harassment tactic is bad for business and is the course's liability. This bad apple spoils an otherwise excellent place. read more

I don't even know where to start with this place! I play quite a bit of golf around the Chicagoland area and Lost Marsh is thee worst course I've played in years. For starters the greens fee is $67. It's a $40 course at best! I'd compare it to Waters Edge in Worth. The greens are in absolutely terrible condition. Not only diseased and damaged, but overgrown, not rolled, and covered in crap! They also failed to tell us that there was a pollen problem on the course. It was like playing in a snow storm. Ridiculous! No mention of this at all when I called to inquire about course conditions. Now the tee boxes.. What a joke! Half are overgrown with weeds and and thick patches of gras. The other half appear to have been tilled and rocks spread over them. Oh and let's not forget the fairways. They look like the guy cutting them was blind. There is diseased damage everywhere and sprouts of random weeds on every fairway. All in all one of the most disappointing golf courses I've played in many years! They should be issuing refunds for this type of golf experiences! Everyone in our group is in agreement. When we drove back to the clubhouse we found the course open and people teeing off. Why were we pulled off the course? I would not come back. Stupidity in the ranks makes for a poor experience. Charged summer rates in the springtime, and weekend rates on a Friday. What gives Hammond? Friday is a weekday. If you take the skyway it's $13 in tolls round trip. read more

Close to the city and a way better value than that other links style course in the area that is overpriced with staff that like to pretend they are Chicago's version of Pebble Beach. Lost Marsh, formerly a swamp land (hence the name), is now a high class golf course and hall. I attended my high school's Prom there in May of 2010. The place is very classy if you ignore the area it's in. I didn't get to explore much since I was there for Prom, but the place is very elegant. The room we were in was a floor up. Lost Marsh is built on a hill so you get a great view of the steel mills. What I really liked about the place was that it has a huge balcony that wraps around 3/4 of the room. You can look down and watch the golfers. In the room, they had a bar in the corner. It's nice because I hate waiting an hour for waitresses to bring me a drink. But the food wasn't anything to praise about. We were served friend chicken and mostacholi with a few sides. Some of the chicken was undercooked and bland. I remember the green beans were good. Everything was nicely decorated inside. The dance floor was extremely tiny though. Add an abundance of poofy dresses and a DJ with all of his equipment and you've got a disastrous dancing situation. We ended up moving some of the chairs and tables back to get more room. Seriously, the bathrooms here were amazing! Obviously I can only speak for the girl's bathroom, but it was so clean and warming. They even had lotion, perfume, mints, and hair accessories available for open use. As a girl, I loved this. So if you're planning a dance event like a Prom, I'd consider maybe looking at a few other halls. Otherwise, this place is decent, but I'd consider maybe just waiting to eat at McDonald's afterward. read more

I know alot of people in the area despise that this place was built because a whole lot of the town's money was sunk into this project, and I see where they are coming from but at the same time the land they tore down was gross anyways. I'm not sure what to think about it honestly, but what's done is done and I've been here to practice putting and go to the drive range a few times with my buddy Jim or my dad and uncle Rick. I also played the course once with Rick, though that's the only time I've ever played a whole game. I had fun, though I haven't gone lately, I do plan to go back sometime during nice weather. read more

Had a great lunch here with the Mrs. I thought the menu was perfect for a lunch menu. My only complaint would be we waited a good 5 mintues to get seated not because they were busy but because the hostess and wait staff were hanging out just around the corner of the entrance so they never saw us. It's good for the value and offers a couple of challenging holes, otherwise if you're a serious golfer who loves a challenging 18 holes then this isn't the course for you.
