Lost province was a go to restaurant for my husband and I in college. We went here the day we got engaged and chose to come back today, days after our wedding. Unfortunately, we will never be returning. Our experience was one of the worst we've ever had in Boone. We were greeted by rude staff who begrudgingly got us a water after telling us we needed to order via the QR code, which did not allow the option to order a water. (we were seated in the beer garden, which previously had real service). We were never checked on and weren't given silverware, we had to find some ourselves. The bartender was kind enough to offer an orange slice for my cocktail stating "would you like me to add this *orange slice*? It's only a few days old." To which my husband declined and suggested he should trash it. Overall, we are heartbroken to take a staple restaurant off our recommendation list. Friendly service and a spacious well laid out patio in back made for very casual, comfortable shaded dining. The sampler was enjoyed by my husband. Gluten free pizza was appreciated by myself. Beer cheese dip a big hit with pretzel. And definitely get the citronette dressing if getting a salad- I'd buy it by the bottle if they sold it as my Boone souvenir! Came in on a Sunday afternoon after a long hike with my dog. We got seated at the patio bar immediately! Staff was super nice and friendly. I ordered a flight of beers and let my server pick them, all pretty decent! I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries. THE BEST I've ever had no joke. I was stuffed but kept eating it since I couldn't take leftover camping with me. We popped in on a Monday afternoon for a beer and an appetizer. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately by the bartender who was attentive and helpful our entire visit. We only had muscles and fries this visit but they were amazing! All of the food coming out of the kitchen looks phenomenal! We can't wait to go back and try other dishes. One of the chefs came out and chatted with us for a while too about the oven and everything they make in house. First of all Eden waited in our table and was an absolute joy to be around. Her friendliness and humor was one of the highlights for sure. She deserves the best in life. Srsly. But about the food... we ordered beers it is-after all- a brewpub. I had a "to helles and bock" which I really enjoyed. One of my friends kept taking about the fat bastard which I am used to being called but to my surprise was directed at the oatmeal stout. Kudos to the Lost Province for taking the brunt of the name calling for me today. My other friend had the "awesome sauce" which I had one of too. All very good. The big, copper fired pizza oven kind of stands out here and it really kind of draws the customer to pizza. That's the direction I was heading until I saw the beer bratwurst. This is one of those items that I rarely see on a menu and I love them. It's a rare sight and usually quite good. I am pleased to announce the birth of my baby boy, "beah brat"... he is my pride and joy. But seriously, if you were to adopt a food baby, this'd be one to consider. Not quite as fashionable as a pocket dog or an Angelina Jolie random adoption... but you eat it, enjoy it, brag about your choice AND no diapers or whining to handle tomorrow. Bratwurst on bun with good chunky mustard and kraut. Well done. My friends had a burger (enormous) and a pizza. I tried the pizza and can say for sure that it was very good. Maybe next time! As with most places, service is better when they're not busy. The food is also better when they're less busy - I usually get a wood fired flat bread which is typically delicious, but when they're busy, the crust is often over or under cooked. In general, it's a pretty good option for downtown Boone, as long as it's not crowded. Not worth a wait, though, since downtown has so many other options within walking distance of Lost Province. read more

Stopped for dinner on a Sunday eve. There was a wait but we were able to grab two open stools at the bar which was nice. Our bartender (Ethan) was very helpful with suggestions and samples to help us find what we both liked. Very cool atmosphere and enjoyed watching the pies being prepped and slid into the wood fired oven. We had the pretzel and a pie and both were flavorful and tasty. Service terrible! Bartender was rude and never smiled or asked what we wanted. We had to tell her our order after flagging her down. She was doing busywork instead of waiting on us. Food to table 45+ minutes after finally ordering. Many empty tables and we waited a long time to be seated, be waited on, get the food and finally the check. Many people who were seated after us got their food well before us. No straws, no salt and pepper, no ketchup. We had to go get these ourselves. Wait staff had to be flagged down for everything then grudgingly slowly brought us what they should have brought without us having to ask. When we thanked them they did not respond. No manager in sight. I looked because I would rather talk to the manager instead of leaving a bad review. It wasn't like they were busy and rushing around, just not efficient. I occasionally drink beer now and then but I'd probably drink it regularly if I weren't from the Detroit area and this were readily available. The board was amazing. The jam and honey added an amazing touch to the wonderful flavors with the meat, cheese, and arugula. It was all so fresh. I wanted to share what a terrible experience we had yesterday in downtown Boone. The hostess was the most offensive person I've met that's responsible for greeting and seating guest. We registered online (per the websites direction) and waited an hour longer than told and was told that "online" guest get worked in as a lower priority than walk ins. We were asked to leave 3 different spots in the bar area after we were told to wait in specific spots. We were also told the patio was first come first serve. We waited for an open seat there only to have the hostess tell us to leave once a spot opened, and one of the waiters confirmed that seating was first come first serve. I honestly felt at that point we were just being harassed or picked on for some unknown reason. If you are expecting hospitality, smiling faces and an experience, this is NOT the place to go. Much better places with very nice people within a block of this place. The worst restaurant experience I've ever had read more

We stopped by Lost Province Brewing Co. during happy hour for half-price appetizers and discounted beer and beer flights as part of a package "Zip & Sip" deal we purchased through Sky Valley Zip Tours in nearby Blowing Rock. This is a cool modern microbrewery and gastropub that opened in downtown Boone in August 2014. It's called Lost Province because this region of North Carolina has historically been cut off from the rest of the state by the Eastern Continental Divide. Lost Province brews and sells its own beer on-site, sources local ingredients for its food, has a fancy copper wood-fired oven, and has live music several nights a week. The inside of the restaurant is spacious with multiple levels of dining. There's an open kitchen and the bar has TVs. The space is clean and bright and the atmosphere is casual. When the music starts playing, it gets loud. We sat on the fenced-in, dog-friendly patio with umbrella-covered tables. Plenty of free parking is available in lots and on the streets directly outside. When we visited, Lost Province had 12 beers on the menu. With the exception of the triple-IPA Decenniale, 8-ounce pours were $2.50 each, 16-ounce pours were $5 each, and pitchers were $15 each. I used my voucher from the zip-line tour and got a flight of 4 beers. Of the 12 beers, only the Decenniale was ineligible for the tasting. Here's what I went with: * Lost Province IPA - Citra, Mosaic, and Chinook hops * Booneberry Saison - brewed using local blueberries * Lost Trail Pale Ale - Cascade and Chinook hops in kettle, Centennial "dry hops" in fermenter * Hula Girl - dark brown porter infused with coconut milk I'm not much of a beer drinker, but since I had the voucher, I figured I'd give these a try. My beer palate is pretty much non-existent. All I can say is I thought all of the beers were good and fine. The Booneberry Saison was expectedly fruity. I liked the Hula Girl the best. It had a very noticeable chocolaty and coconutty flavor to it. Food-wise, Lost Province sells 10 different kinds of Neapolitan pizza (about $15-16 each for most pies or you can make your own), snacks and appetizers ($5-10 each), soups and salads ($6-11 each), cheese and charcuterie (2 selections for $13 to up to 5 selections for $26.50), 8 kinds of sandwiches ($9-12 each including a side or chips), beer mac and cheese ($10), and beer-battered fish & chips ($12). They have a kids menu too. We ordered the following apps (regular prices shown): * Poutine ($10) - French fries, mushroom gravy, cheese curds * Wood-fired pretzels ($7) - housemade honey mustard * Pickle platter ($9) - housemade pickled vegetables, jam, Lost Province sourdough, whipped malt butter * Hummus & pita ($9) - wood-fired pita, Spanish olives * Belgian beer mussels ($10) - beer, garlic, cream, chile de arbol, grilled Lost Province sourdough Overall, everything was delicious. I'm generally not a big fan of poutine, but I thought Lost Province's version was very good. I liked how the mushroom gravy came with big slices of mushroom. The cheese sauce was nice and thick and therefore, didn't make the dish too soggy. The homecut fries were tasty. The wood-fired pretzels were huge. They were slightly toasted and charred on the outside and soft on the inside. To me, this was the least impressive of the apps we ordered, but it wasn't bad. We ordered our pretzels with the housemade honey mustard which was OK. We also had the option of ordering the pretzels with a housemade spicy mustard. I really enjoyed the pickle platter. Our assortment of pickled veggies included thin slices of carrot, peppers, whole okra, pickles, beets, and jalapeno all over a bed of arugula. The okra was my favorite. These okra were picked at just the right time and were pickled perfectly. Unfortunately, there were only 3 okra on the plate so not everyone got to try a piece. Some of the veggies were fairly sour, but I liked it. I believe the pickles were bread and butter pickles, a nice combination of sweet and tangy. The whipped malt butter, which paired perfectly with the sourdough bread, was light, airy, wispy, and downright addictive. The hummus & pita were yummy. There were about 7-8 triangular slices of pita and the bowl of hummus contained 3 Spanish olives on top. The pita was cooked in the same copper oven as the pizzas and pretzels. The oven gave the pita an appetizing toasty texture and flavor. The hummus was smooth and velvety. The Belgian beer mussels were excellent. There were about 20-25 mussels served in a mouthwatering cream-colored broth with two slices of grilled sourdough toast. While on the small side, the mussels were fresh and delectable. I appreciated that Lost Province's mussel broth wasn't too rich or heavy. We used leftover sourdough bread from the pickle platter to sop up every last drop of the mussel broth. Service was A-OK. TL;DR - In downtown Boone, Lost Province Brewing Co. is a fine one-stop shop for beer and food. read more

We had the Kilt Spinach Salad and Sweet Beet pizza. Parents had beer brat and fish & chips. Everything was super delicious. Would just warm people with low spice tolerance to inquire for alternatives for sauces. We loved the spice but Dad (fish & chips) was not fond of Remoulade or purple cabbage. Food and beer selection are great. They are highly disorganized on seating and wait list management. Tables sit empty for 30+ minutes even though there is a wait time. It's easily double whatever the wait time they tell you is. Did not appear to be a staffing issue.
