Lost Sock is an independent family-owned-operated laundromat in Astoria, Queens it is very neat, modern & clean. Lost Sock first opened in early 2013. I also love that all the machines are brand-new, not leased or refurbished. Every time I go there, I feel that I may run into Archie Bunker or someone famous! My cellphone signal reception on my smartphone works super fast, probably the fastest I ever seen. This is unusual for a laundromat because of all the electromagnetic machines that creates electromagnetic field's. I was lucky enough to meet the owner Nick in 2014. I was curious to find out what his secret was about the cellphone signal being so awesome. Nick was nice enough and told me that "if you look at the ceiling there are repeaters". This is very important for me since the work I do doesn't allow my work smartphone to be able to connect to Wi-Fi. I needed a iPhone charging cable because my battery was dying rapidly. I asked if they have a cable I can borrow w/o hesitation the lady at the register gave me one to use with out a hubcap attached to it, lol. I was there late-night and a gentleman with his small poodle came looking for his wife's wedding ring. The person that was in charge was new so he made a quick phone call & with-in minutes Nicks father brought him his ring which was from the Edwardian Era. Me and my wife own expensive shirts some costing close to $1000. I recently had a newborn baby boy. I choose to use Lost Sock to wash all his laundry as well. I recently relocated to the city last year for work. I bring all of our families laundry to Lost Sock specifically because I don't trust anyone else to handle our laundry needs. read more

There are a few reasons we go out of our way to use this place - it's clean. That is really important. It's not only clean it's kind of a cool place, if you were to take out all of the washing machines you'd think you were in a hipster bar. The staff is fantastic. Friendly, prompt, drop everything to make sure you're not waiting - but they also remember us. Almost immediately knew our names. They went out of their way last time to make sure we were happy with how clean our clothes were. The location is great. If there is something we decide we want to wash ourselves on a weekend like a blanket we can go right across the street to the Quays and sneak a beer while we're waiting for the dryer to finish. Hate to be the first not so pleasant review (especially since the owner seems like a really nice guy), but I feel my experience needs to be shared. This place is clean and sexy as previously mentioned, but severely lacking in the customer service department. A couple friends and I just recently moved to the area and were thrilled to find this classy looking laundromat offering organic drop off service. Last week, I went to pick up my laundry, pulled out my credit card to pay for my $15.50 purchase and was told, "There's a $15 minimum." I was confused since my total was over the limit. I asked a couple of questions since I had previously used my credit card. Without missing a beat or fully understanding the exchange, the owners wife (who was not handling the transaction) rudely commented, "There's a minimum. My husband told you that last time you were here." I did not recall this so called conversation, but again, still confused as to why there was an issue since my total was over the minimum. I paid cash and politely trying to clear up my confusion asked, "So I could have used my card?" Instead of admitting to their mistake, the owners wife again chimes in "It's 50 cents!" My friend and I were completely shocked and embarrassed at the way this situation was handled. When we left, my friend asked, "Why was she yelling at you??" This experience was icing on the cake. I've been using Lost Sock since I moved to Astoria in December, and they've definitely fallen out of favor with me. They take their name a little too literally, for one. I often have other people's random socks in my laundry, and I'm often missing at least one or two of my own socks. I would understand one random sock showing up once in awhile, but usually I average two or three completely random socks in my clean laundry. And my socks are white, or pink, and I usually get back brightly colored or patterned socks that obviously aren't mine. I wouldn't be surprised if I've lost other things and I haven't realized it yet. You can't schedule a pickup or delivery in advance, at all. Which is annoying, because let's say I need something picked up by 11am on Saturday, but if I call at 10am that doesn't give the one delivery guy enough advance notice and he can't get there till noon. Except I'm not going to be home at noon, and I'm not going to wake up at 9am on a Saturday to call for my laundry pickup (because it's literally the only morning I get to sleep in past 6am). But I can't call on Friday afternoon to schedule a pickup on Saturday morning either. They've been late on several occasions to pickup, mostly due to mix-ups with addresses. Even though my address is supposedly "on file," they invariably go to the wrong address. I don't know what detergent they use, but I noticed my skin is much more irritated all over since I started using Lost Sock. They might have a hypoallergenic option but it probably costs extra. I recently started going to Lost Sock Laundromat, and I love it! The owner is very friendly and gave my boyfriend and I free laundry bags during our first visit. The space is beautifully decorated with interesting light fixtures, exposed brick walls, shiny new machines, and gold tiled ceilings. The entire space is also very clean. Several machines are designated for organic soaps only, which I also appreciate. The prices also are the best in the neighborhood- double load washers are $1.75 and the dryers are 10 minutes per quarter! I still dread the chore of laundry, but Lost Sock Laundry makes me a little more excited to do it! I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

I used to think this place was fantastic but they've definitely declined. I've used this laundromat primarily for free pick-up/delivery - wash & fold. This last time, they picked up about 50lbs of laundry. I called to have the laundry delivered and it arrived an hour or 2 later than their predicted arrival time. As I unpacked my laundry I found that most of my clothes and all my sheets and towels were pretty much just rolled into a square-ish shapes. I've had to re-fold everything. I'm also certain that they didn't bother to use fabric softener. I'm not sure I'll call them again. I'll keep looking for a good, reliable wash & fold laundromat. read more

This is the best laundromat in Astoria! They picked up my laundry within a half hour of calling on a Saturday morning, and they called me two hours later saying it was ready! Unfortunately, I was away for the day (all the other laundromats I've been to here take at least 24-48 hours to be ready to drop off your clothes). Today (the next day), I called and requested my laundry to be delivered by 11 AM. It was delivered around 10:30, and my two bags cost me $23! I was amazed! We were actually one of, if not THE, first customers. The only was standing outside on their opening morning, while we were hauling our laundry to another place further down the street that we had just switched to. I remember seeing the signs about them opening and couldn't wait. The owner talked to us as we were walking by and we decided to try it. I am sure glad that we did. When you think of laundromats, they are usually dirty. This place is all clean and new (not to mention that they have a big screen tv that actually has english channels on...a rare find at any laundromat!). When we picked up our laundry, the owner gave us free new bags and our clothes were well cleaned. Their prices are also really decent. This establishment opened a few weeks ago and what a great find!! My first experience two weeks ago was a hit - The owners, Gus and Liz are both genuine and caring individuals who ensure that their customers are satisfied all the way around. Tons of perks to this place too! It's clean, has 2 big flat screen t.v.'s, free wifi, and chances are when you visit, there will be an assortment of candies and cookies on hand. As I am well known among close family and friends for my lack of prowess in the laundry room, I use this place for laundry and dry cleaning delivery/drop-off service. So far, they have been great. They do a nice job and my laundry smells good and is consistently neatly folded. My parents were in town visiting and my mom actually commented on how soft and absorbent my towels were - a dead giveaway that I had not laundered them myself. They accommodate special laundry requests, like drying on low, hanging things to dry, etc. The pickup and delivery people are friendly and reliable - you have to call when you are ready, and it's usually about a 30-minute wait. It would be a total five-star experience if only you could use a credit card and schedule pickup/drop-off in advance. read more

I ran into this place on the way home from the subway and was elated to see a sign that they offer organic detergent when they do wash and fold (10 cents more). I am allergic to the chemicals in some mainstream detergents and also HATE to do my own laundry so I was on this place like stink on a hog. They did a great job with my clothes, folded them perfectly and put all the underwear and socks in a separate plastic bag so they maintained their foldy-ness. They also got my 22 pounds of soiled garments done in about 6 hours which is most impressive. I dropped of and picked up but I believe they also do pickup and delivery, at least thats what it says on the window. I used this laundromat three times for drop off and it's great! Even my small socks for my flats never gets lost. The service is quick and they let you know as soon as your stuff are done. You can hang dry delicates, just put them in a separate bag. Will keep using them! read more

I go out of my way to use this laundromat due to the clean, big machines, lots of baskets and folding areas, friendly & welcoming environment and free wifi. You can tell that the owners (which I've seen on a regular basis) actually give a crap about their business. I wouldn't go anywhere else for as long as I live in the area. Note: I would recommend going elsewhere for delivery service. They don't have a very reliable system in place yet. read more

I have been using this laundromat for several months, ever since the more conveniently-located laundromat to me closed, and I think they're great! The facility is always clean and tidy, the machines are always working (which can't be said of many laundromats), and I've gotten nothing but a nice, helpful vibe from every person associated with the business. Though I haven't price checked every local laundromat, I know for a fact that their per-quarter drying price is exponentially better than my old laundromat, and the best part? My clothes are always dry when I come to pick them up! Let it be noted that I've never utilized their laundry service, I always do my own washing and drying. However, judging by the amount of people I see coming in and out of the door to drop off or pick up their laundry, I'm guessing the service is great. read more

Not sure what happened to this place. Our first few times using Lost Sock, we were amazed! The gentleman came to our door within 15 minutes and had our clothes back the very next day.. We have since used them about 2x a month and it's sad to say the service has gone down. I don't like giving bad reviews but I sometimes wondered if they actually are using soap, because my clothes don't smell like anything.. The delivery service has also been very bad.. I've had to call repeatedly to check on the status of my clothes and we finally just gave up and no longer use them.. Advice to the owner is to get more than 1 delivery person and get someone else to answer the phone and coordinate the pick-up/delivery.. read more

DISSATISFIED COMPLETELY!!! I've been using Lost Sock for seven months and getting my laundry done 2-3 times a month so as you can imagine...that's a lot of business I've given The Lost Sock. I live in a house with 4 other girls and I've turned all of them on to the service as well. I've lived in NYC for quite some time & always use wash & fold so I know that losing items is NOT common to occur. also know that getting my laundry back & finding a different color hair than mine all over my dress slacks is NOT standard procedure for most laundromats. You can find both of these at Lost Sock. I lost three pairs of pants one week & decided to give the laundromat another go & I am so incredibly dissatisfied with the way I was treated I will NEVER be returning, nor will my roommates. Let me tell you what happened... I get my laundry picked up & instruct the delivery boy that there is THREE people's laundry to be done & gave him the names. All items were bagged ALONE to coordinate with the separate loads to be done. Apparently this concept was too complex for the laundromat. I called to get my laundry dropped off today & the woman I spoke to was so nasty. She told me the price for all 3 of us combined & told me that our items were washed together because they didn't know there were three different people's laundry to be done...if that's even sanitary?! So my panties were washed with two OTHER girl's panties...weird & not a good business practice. While on the phone she also told me that we need to start putting our names on our bags--how am I supposed to mark a laundry bag?! They should recognize my bag having done my laundry so much! Delivery boy comes, he was super sweet, called the owner on our behalf to rectify the issue. The owner's replies were so careless & unprofessional that I will never use their services again. He asked my roommate if she was the "little Chinese girl?" & had previously called my Vietnamese roommate the "little Indian girl." What?! Inappropriate. I get on the phone to explain the mix up & he says abruptly, "I'm not doing your laundry for free!" which is funny because I was not asking for a free service I just want a CORRECT service & wanted to let him know that his staff was negligent and rude & that was his solution...to yell at me. The Lost Sock is my favorite laundromat, and the one I go to despite living closer to a couple of others. The machines are plentiful, new, and affordable. The washers have a standard price ($1.75 for the smaller one, $3.50 for the bigger one, $5.50 for the giant one), but after doing research with the surrounding laundromats I found the biggest savings from the washing machines ($0.25 per 10 minutes). The place is clean, the bathroom (they have one for customers!) is clean, and there are TV's if you ever want to distract yourself watching the Food Network or Shark Tank. I've never used the drop-off service but from what I recall it was very reasonably priced as well. I've only used their dry cleaning service once, but everything went fine and my coat was ready on schedule. Be careful doing laundry there during peak times, though - there's high demand for the smallest machines, and sometimes people (both employees and customers) use several of them at a time. I've never been completely shut out of a smaller machine, but there are some times when it's been awfully close. The location is pretty solid, too. While my clothes are in the machine I'd typically go food-shopping or get a haircut. It's worth walking an extra couple of blocks like I do to use the Lost Sock, mainly because the facilities and pricing are worth it. read more

The Lost sock outclasses your basic NYC laundromat. They designed their interior almost like a home. Stylish lighting, nice tile, and a clean finished feeling. Wifi too. Most importantly, they really care for your clothes, and basically treat you like family. When I moved a little out of the way, I thought I'd have to shop around and settle for basic laundry. Over crowded, angry or unfriendly clients all around the laundromat. You need to vividly stand in front of your machine, otherwise, in any second, once your machine stop, people will throw away your laundry to the dirty baskets and put their loads in. The sanitary condition is a big concern too. One custom loaded bloody clothes from a black trash bag (I hope he is butcher) and the manager didn't say anything. I've been going here over a year. The owner is super nice, and the place is clean. I set a timer and come back for my clothes. Today, no more than 60 seconds after that timer was completed my clothes were in a hamper, in a corner, and an employee moved them. There is no way anybody was waiting for an appreciable time, and lots of machines nearby were set to go off soon. The Lost Sock is now my go-to Laundromat in Astoria. The drop-off wash-and-fold is always done in a timely manner (same day or next day), the prices are the best in the area (70 cents a pound for standard non-organic), and my clothes always come back clean and neat. They are also happy to hang up and air dry my dress shirts at no extra charge. I don't use the delivery service, but when I pick up my laundry is always done same day or next day, so I have no complaints and am very happy with their work. The dry cleaning service is also good. One time they lost an item, but they found it eventually and were very clear that they would pay for it if they weren't able to find it. I appreciate a business that will acknowledge and fix their mistakes, especially when those mistakes are rare. I highly recommend the Lost Sock. UPDATE - LOWERED FROM 4 STARS TO 2 STARS: I had a few inconvenienves with the Lost Sock when I posted my review, but since then the errors and inconveniences have continued and I can no longer support a 4 star review. I said their mistakes were rare- that is no longer so. They live up to their name by literally losing socks (and other items). They have lost my socks, and I have found socks in our laundry that do not belong to us. I have also found items that do not belong to me. The last straw was when I tried to pay but they couldn't get the credit card machine to work - it never works. Eventually the inconveniences were just too many, and I don't trust them to handle my clothes anymore. I'm sorry. read more

Review for diy laundry only: this is pleasant when there is no know there. When it's busy it can be annoying because it gets crowded and hard to navigate. But machines are new'ish and dryers actually dry clothes. Clean inside. 2 Big tvs. Bathroom. Patricia is there after 3 I think on weekdays and sat mornings and she's the best. So sweet. Last wash is 8:30 not 8:32. I've seen them turn people away. They close at 10. Avoid during busy hours if you can. read more
