I almost always order the Nirvana burrito and it never disappoints, it's become my favorite. I've also tried their tofu breakfast burrito and veggie burger, and both were just as good, flavorful, satisfying, and still light. One thing I really appreciate is that they have great options for everyone. I'm vegetarian but my husband isn't, and we both find plenty we love here. I've even brought my parents a few times and it's always a hit. The space has plenty of seating and there's usually good parking nearby, which makes it an easy, relaxed stop. We've drove by this place for years and wondered how the food was. Sad to say, it was very disappointing. My husband ordered the chicken stuffed spud. I ordered the Indian curry. Of the two dishes, mine was better. Still, the curry left much to be desired. My husband's entree was so bad, he asked me to pour my curry over it. Luckily, it improved it. Neither one of us finished our food. Overall, the service was ok. The restaurant wasn't clean and had an open tub in the dining area where customers placed dirty dishes, which wasn't very hygienic. This is my favorite restaurant. The consistency is legit. The soups melt in your mouth and taste so homemade. The falafel balls are crave-able at 11pm -that tahini sauce is the best thing I've ever tasted and That crispy crunch of fried falafel my go-to is the 1/2 avocado tuna cup. I'm a big fan of the fries which are nice and crispy. Their sandwiches are good. The hummus and pita appetizer was just okay. There wasn't enough pita bread for the amount of hummus given. Really disappointed with this açaí bowl. It was overpriced for the quality, and by the time it arrived it was completely melted and watery. As you can see in the photo, the bowl had turned into a soupy consistency with chunks of ice instead of being thick and frozen like an açaí bowl should be. My sister and I went in and ordered iced teas and asked if they could add a little lemonade since the tea was unsweetened. I specifically said just a splash/light lemonade. Somehow that got misheard and I ended up with a lemonade with a splash of tea instead. I always hear so much about Lotus Cafe, and I think it's an iconic establishment in downtown Encinitas, but I've surprisingly never been--until now! To be honest, I did not know what to expect, but I have to admit that my experience was very positive. The cafe is located in a shopping center, which is very convenient because there's no need to fight for parking. The ambiance is very casual; you line up to order at the counter, they give you a number, you find a table, and they'll bring your food to you! They do accept Apple Pay. There are tables inside, outside, and in a covered patio, so plenty of places to choose from. I went around dinner time, and it wasn't very crowded, though there were other patrons. There is also a little station where you can help yourself to napkins, water/ice, straws, utensils, etc. It's self serve. The bathroom has a code, but you can easily ask the employees for it. The interior and menu are decorated with this theme of "lotuses" in mind, so I think it's very cute. In terms of the food, I love how they serve breakfast all day! Breakfast is my favorite meal, so of course I opted for a pitaya bowl. I got it with apple juice, no honey. It was, as expected, a beautiful bowl! It tasted strongly of apple juice, but other than that, it was just your basic bowl. With that in mind, it was on the pricier side for an acai bowl, though the portion size is larger than most. Meanwhile, my friend ordered the Moonlight pasta with a salad and garlic bread. She loved the garlic bread, but the pasta was a pass from the both of us. Despite its fancy name, the dish is basically just pesto pasta with cheese; my gripe with it is that the pesto was chunky yet watery at the same time? It was not very flavorful. I think this was a miss. Overall, I liked Lotus Cafe, but I don't think anything stood out to me, besides the ambiance.
